Patricia Louis Turpin Hesher, 93, was born to Harold Thomas Turpin and Phyliss Artilee Bement Turpin on July 15th, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri. Patti passed away on September 17, 2021 in Larned.

Patti and Wayne Hesher met in Kansas City at a hospital while he was recovering from an operation. Patti arranged to deliver meals to him while he was recuperating. The two were united in marriage on April 20th, 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri. Patti and Wayne's union produced 4 surviving children. Ed of Amarillo, Texas. Tom of Larned, Kansas, Sandy (Gary) Chelcun of Estes Park, Colorado and Mike, Estes Park, Colorado. One granddaughter Talisha (Tyler) Dennison of Wellsville, Kansas. One great-granddaughter, Rose and numerous nieces and nephews. Patti was preceded in death by Wayne on November 28th, 2014, her parents, brother Richard Turpin and a sister, Eleanor Arnold.

Patti graduated from Saint Luke's Nursing school in KCMO before becoming a psychiatric aid instructor at Larned State Hospital for many years. With sports-oriented parents, Patti was a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and Kansas Jayhawks. Patti and Wayne enjoyed time at their summer cabin in Estes Park, Colorado and after retirement spent many winters in Arizona and Texas. Patti also loved to tend to her rose garden, read and bake chip chocolate cookies.

Cremation has taken place and no service is planned at this time.

Margaret “Maggie” Lucille Hester, 68, passed away September 15, 2021, at the University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. She was born on February 1, 1953, at Great Bend, to John &amp; Lucille (Gutierrez) Zero. She married David Hester, Sr. on May 13, 1973, at Galatia.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Margaret worked for many years at Casey’s and Arby’s. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Margaret enjoyed rose gardening and going to the casino. She loved taking care of her beloved cockatoo and chihuahua.

Survivors include her husband, David Hester, Sr. of the home; a son, David Hester, Jr. of Great Bend; a brother, Daniel Scott and wife Margaret of Great Bend; two sisters, Laura Fuzzell and husband David of Great Bend, and Johnnie Francis and husband Rick of Manhattan; many close nieces and nephews; and many children and grandchildren of the heart. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Michael Paul Hester.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 24, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Reverend Adam Wutka presiding. Inurnment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Galatia. Laura Jean Barlow, 73, passed away September 10, 2021, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born on September 14, 1947, in Great Bend, to Rueben and Beth “Babe” (Boxberger) Michaelis. She married Ronald V. Barlow on October 16, 1966, in Hoisington. He died June 26, 2016.

A lifetime Hoisington resident, Laura was a cosmetologist at Nu-Wave Hair Salon. Laura was very proud of her work and always needed her hair and nails to look professional. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the church choir. Laura enjoyed cooking and always had the best recipes to share with her family and friends. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Brooke Barlow of Wichita; a daughter, Jessica Campbell of Hoisington; four grandchildren, Savannah Sidebottom, Taylor Spresser, Rylie Campbell, and Peyton Campbell; and three great-grandchildren, Graham Spresser, Brynk Sidebottom and Boyd Sidebottom.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 24, 2021, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hoisington, with Rhonda Templing, PMA, presiding. Sister Anita Schugart, 87, died September 14, 2021, in the Dominican Sisters’ convent infirmary, Great Bend. She was born December 22, 1933, in Olmitz, KS, the daughter of Fred and Velma (Hlavaty) Schugart.

She entered the Dominican Sisters Community in 1954 and pronounced vows in 1957. Sister Anita ministered as an educator for several years and then as hospital administrator at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City for nearly twenty years. She then studied natural healing and established the Heartland Center for Wholistic Health in Great Bend. She retired at the motherhouse in Great Bend in 2015.

Sister Anita was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Alvin. She is survived by three sisters, Joyce Irwin, Centennial, CO, Marilyn Grover, Olathe, KS, and Marge Widen, Concordia, KS; several nieces and nephews; as well as the Dominican Sisters of Peace.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2021. A Vigil Service will be held Monday, September 20, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. Both will take place at the Sisters’ Convent. All attendees are asked to wear a mask. Burial will be in the Sisters’ Resurrection Cemetery. He was always willing to help family and friends in any way needed. Tino loved rock n roll music, especially the band Kiss. He was able to go to many concerts and enjoyed every one. Tino worked at Fed Ex Freight in&nbsp;Mobile, Alabama, until his health declined and he moved to his mother's in&nbsp;Great Bend&nbsp;six months ago. Tino had an ornery, fun-loving personality and loved life to the fullest. He loved his family and friends dearly and definitely was a "momma's" boy.&nbsp;Tino was a lifelong member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Prince of Peace Parish in&nbsp;Great Bend,&nbsp;Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;He loved animals and adored his big black Chow dog, Max.

Thurston, age 50, of&nbsp;Great Bend,&nbsp;Kansas&nbsp;and formerly of&nbsp;Kansas City,&nbsp;Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on September 10, 2021 in&nbsp;Olathe,&nbsp;Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jarrod was born on January 3, 1971 at&nbsp;Wichita,&nbsp;Kansas&nbsp;to James B. and Jolene K. (Berning) Thurston.&nbsp;&nbsp;He graduated from&nbsp;Hays&nbsp;High School&nbsp;in Hays,&nbsp;Kansas&nbsp;in 1989, where he was involved in football, wrestling and track.&nbsp;&nbsp;After graduation, Jarrod&nbsp; competed on the track team at&nbsp;Pratt&nbsp;Community College&nbsp;in&nbsp;Pratt,&nbsp;Kansas&nbsp;and the&nbsp;University&nbsp;of&nbsp;Nebraska&nbsp;at&nbsp;Kearney&nbsp;in&nbsp;Kearney,&nbsp;Nebraska.&nbsp; Jarrod was a professional painter, having worked for Ammon Painting in&nbsp;Kansas City,&nbsp;Missouri, MVP Painting in&nbsp;Grandview,&nbsp;Missouri, and the Board of Public Utilities for&nbsp;Wyandotte&nbsp;County&nbsp;in&nbsp;Kansas City,&nbsp;Kansas&nbsp;for many years, and moved to&nbsp;Great Bend&nbsp;in 2018 to help care for his father.&nbsp; After moving to Great Bend Jarrod continued as a self-employed painter.&nbsp; He was a former member of Painters Union Local #9 of&nbsp;Kansas City,&nbsp;Missouri.&nbsp; He enjoyed studying genealogy and reading history.&nbsp; He was a passionate sports fan and an avid music lover.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jarrod was of the Catholic faith and was a member of Prince of Peace Parish in&nbsp;Great Bend,&nbsp;Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jarrod M. Thurston

Lisa Ann Edgett, 63, of Great Bend died September 9, 2021 at her home in Great Bend. She was born September 22, 1957, in Great Bend to Carlos and Mary (Downey) Miller. She married Guy Disney on July 24, 1979, and gained a stepson, Jared Disney and stepdaughter, Lisa Disney. They later divorced. She married Kenneth Edgett on December 26, 2009.

After graduating from Great Bend High School in 1975, she attended Barton County Community Junior College and then Ottawa University where she received her teaching degree. She earned her Master's degree from Kansas State University. She taught at Park and Jefferson schools in Great Bend for 34 years, retiring in 2015. Since retiring, she was a substitute teacher in Ellinwood, St. Joseph’s in Ellinwood, St. John, Otis-Bison, Hoisington, Central Kansas Christian Academy, Holy Family, and Great Bend grade schools. For many years she also worked the night shift every quarter in the support department at CPI to get reports printed and sent out. Up until her death, she worked the Great Bend High School games taking tickets and sometimes working in the concession stand. She was also known for her decorated cakes and her bierocks which she did for relaxation.

As a teenager, Lisa was a member of Job’s Daughters and was the Honor Queen for the State of Kansas. She loved music and singing and belonged to the Madrigal Pop Singers in high school and the Hilltop Singers at BCCJC. She was also a member of the Argonne Rebels in Great Bend. She grew up in the Central Baptist Church where she played piano for some of their services. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church where she also played piano for the services. She was a Past Noble Grand of Martha Rebekah Lodge #425 in St. John, member of Valley Lodge #95, I.O.O.F. in Great Bend, and Pratt Lodge #248, I.O.O.F. in Pratt. She was an avid Bunco player, looking forward to their monthly gatherings.

Those that knew her would say she was always there to help anyone who needed help, usually making sure everyone else was taken care of before herself. She loved teaching kids and seeing that moment when things ‘clicked’. She was always there to help any child that needed help, be it math, reading, or any subject they were struggling with and would tutor on the side so they would not have to struggle in the classroom. She was also known for her joyful attitude, greeting everyone with a smile. The joys of her life were her Dachshunds, Winnie and Dixie.

She is survived by her husband, Ken of the home; extended family, Angie and Jarred Stoney, grandsons Jordan, Javen, and Jamieson; sisters, Jill (Tom) Pletcher of Wichita and Lorrie (Shane) Kromka of Denver, CO; sister-in-law, Maribeth Miller of Mason, MI; nieces and nephew, Amy (John), Jasmine (Deacon) and Brandon; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bernice and Norman Edgett of Plainville; brothers-in-law, Brian Edgett of Plainville, Gary (Kim) Edgett of Topeka, and Greg (Michelle) Edgett of Monroe, IA; and nieces and nephews, Amber, Issac, Morgan, Mitchell, Levi and Lilly. Ora Louise Meyer, 93, passed away September 11, 2021 at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born April 30, 1928 in Larned, the daughter of Francis A. and Mary C. Bowman Rolo. A longtime area resident, she was a housewife and Nurse Aide for Parkview Manor and St. Joseph Hospital.

She was a member of the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belpre.

On October 7, 1947 she married Dale Francis Meyer in Belpre. He passed away March 9, 2004.

Survivors include four sons, Dennis Meyer, Amarillo, TX, Edward Meyer, Larned, Mark Meyer, Halstead, KS, Kelly Meyer, Larned, KS; six daughters, Ann Marie Grizzell, Macksville, KS, Teresa Martin, Larned, KS, Rebecca Sack, Rye, CO, Kathy Hogan, Andover, KS, Tracy Deighton, St. John, KS, Jeanne Quinn, Theodosia, MO; three brothers, Barry Rolo, Lubbock, TX, Arthur Rolo, Plainville, KS, and Larry Rolo, Colorado City, TX; 43 grandchildren, 104 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Billy was employed as a Welder and Sheet-Metal Fabricator at Ruskin Manufacturing in Great Bend for over fifteen years and later worked as Quality Control Supervisor at Great Bend Industries in Great Bend for over twenty years prior to his retirement in 2017. He was a tireless volunteer for Sunflower Diversified Services in Great Bend. Billy loved following his kids’ and grandkids’ sports and activities and enjoyed being a “shade tree grease-monkey” mechanic along with woodworking and stained glass creations. He was the 'family' handyman and in his retirement cared for his great-grandchildren.

Coming from Coffeyville in 2009, Bubba was a Great Bend resident. He was a mechanic and truck driver for Innovative Livestock Services and Crawford Express for several years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and horses. Bubba was a very generous man and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

She was born Jan. 31, 1948, in Eads, Col., to her hero Albert and his wife Mary (Harmon) Walter. If you knew Alberta, you knew Frank. The two were married on June 23, 1979, in Great Bend and spent the rest of their time together traveling and making memories with their daughter and beloved grandchildren.

Alberta, a resident of Ellinwood since 1984, came from humble beginnings and from the age of 12 never stopped working to support her family. She was always good with money, she would say “frugal” and not cheap, and let that guide her career after high school. Her natural and effortless understanding of money gave her a successful career as a bookkeeper for several businesses and banks including Farmers Bank and Trust, Great Bend, and most recently Community Bank of the Midwest, Great Bend, before her well-deserved retirement in 2018.

She was a proud child of Christ and attended CrossPoint Church, Great Bend, with Frank always by her side. She was an avid reader and enjoyed vacationing with Frank and her grandchildren. Alberta loved the mountains and spent her vacations in Colorado and Wyoming as well as the Black Hills of South Dakota.

For more than 32 years, she dedicated her life to her grandchildren. Mema, as she was known to her grandchildren and all of their friends, and Frank would travel all across Kansas to support all of her grandchildren’s endeavors. From every type of ball game to plays and musicals, cheerleading events, graduations, and anything else they were involved in you could find Alberta and Frank in the middle of the stands… and she could yell and cheer with the best of them.

She cherished the holidays with her family. During holiday events, she enjoyed sitting around the kitchen table playing dominos and listening to and laughing at the antics of her grandchildren. She enjoyed being teased by her grandsons and would play along in her own over-the-top way. Alberta loved the time she was able to spend with her daughter Tonya, the two developed a deep understanding of each other in the kitchen and would oftentimes work on preparing large and complex meals without ever having to discuss the planning or preparation and were able to focus on the more important conversations of life.

Survivors include her husband and best friend, Frank Eugene Sovereign, of the home; her daughter and closest confidant, Tonya Parks and husband Kenneth of Elkhart; one sister, Debbie McDaniel and husband Gary of Garden City; and the lights of her life, her three grandchildren, Tyler Parks, Whitney Parks and Cole Parks.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2021, at CrossPoint Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Clay Boepple presiding. Interment will follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood. Visitation will be from Noon to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, September 9, at Bryant Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to The Susan G. Alberta Marie Sovereign

Gary Eugene Kenyon, 80, passed away Sept. 5, 2021, at Legend Senior Living, Hutchinson. He was born March 28, 1941, in Bogue, Kan. to Ivan and Delena (Conyac) Kenyon. Gary married Nellene Kaye Grose Dec. 27, 1974, in Great Bend.

Gary, a Barton County resident since 1968 coming from Esben, Kan. was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church and enjoyed reading, history, gardening and an expanded variety of woodworking, from wood carving, furniture making, to finish carpentry. A graduate from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees, Gary taught in Esben, Hoisington and Barton Community College (1970-2003).

Survivors include Nellene Kaye Kenyon, of the home; one son, Derek Kenyon of Kansas City, Mo.; one daughter, Michelle Hayworth and husband Dustin of Augusta; one brother, Alan Kenyon and wife Marlene of Mo.; one sister, Mary “Jolene” Alexander and husband Darwin of Joplin, Mo.; and one grandson, Cooper Hayworth. He was preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn "Kay" Pozas.

Gary Eugene Kenyon

George James Rice, 73, died September 3, 2021, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri. He was born April 10, 1948, the son of Kenneth and Martha (Wittig) Rice. George was a 1966 graduate of Hoisington High School. He then attended Fort Hays State College and Kansas University.

A lifetime Hoisington resident, George was an oil field operator and owner of the Rice Production Company. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He was involved in his community, serving on the city council and was mayor for several years and a member of the Jaycees. George also enjoyed coaching his children’s little league and basketball teams.

On April 8, 1978 he married Jane L. Vink at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Hoisington.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jane Rice of the home; daughter, Tonya Deal and husband Jeff of Hutchinson; son, Adam Rice and wife Kelly of Lenexa; brothers, Richard Rice of Dripping Springs, Texas, John Rice of Edmond, Oklahoma, Jerry Rice of Greenwood, Arkansas, and Ben Rice of Great Bend; a sister, Martha DeHaven of Cresson, Texas; brother-in-law, Rich Vink and wife Norma of Topeka; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Fairchild and Brenda Wilson both of Topeka, and Kim Loring and husband Eric of Prior Lake, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Piper and Hudson Deal, and Kase, Finley, and Madden Rice; and two step-grandchildren, Anna &amp; Evann Deal.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenneth Rice and a sister Ruth Dailey.

Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday and 1-8 p.m. Monday with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. A Prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, all at the funeral home.

George James Rice

Donald (Don) Arthur Jensen, 86, passed away at his home on Thursday, September 2, 2021 in Larned.

He was born February 25, 1935 in Kinsley, the son of Arthur W. and Catherine (Werner) Jensen. 

A lifetime area resident, Don was a carpenter by trade, worked for the City of Larned as a city inspector and at Sacred Heart Catholic Church as a maintenance man.  With respect to Larned Kansas, he was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golf.  Camping was a mainstay in his life especially while the children were young.  He taught his kids to fish, hunt, and camp.  Don was the biggest fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Tigers, however when the Royals played the Tigers he always cheered for the Royals. Don served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Germany.  While on leave in Demark he met his wife of sixty-one years, Grethe Rostgaard Petersen.   On March 22, 1960 they married in Winnipeg, Canada.   

Don was a father and mentor to many.  His nephew stated the wonderful sentiments Uncle Don was “a simple, unconditionally loving, kind, funny, supportive and much-loved human.  Words do no justice as to what role he played in my life……I will forever miss him”.   We all have so many wonderful memories that make us laugh, cry and genuinely happy.  Every one of us can tell a Papa Don story, we know he is smiling down on us with that twinkle in his beautiful blue eyes.   As stated by Don’s daughter Heidi Donaho “Don was the best daddy a girl could have”.  Erik and Damian Jensen remember the wonderful memories of hunting and fishing growing up.  Don and Grethe’s daughter Elvi, from Denmark writes: “Et hjerte af guld er holdt op med at slå, to flittige hænder er gået i stå“(A heart of gold has stopped beating, two diligent hands have come to a standstill).  Yes, we will all forever miss him.  

Don was preceded in death by his parents Kate and Arthur Jensen.

Don is survived by his wife Grethe Jensen, their children, Damian (Lori) Jensen, Wichita, Heidi Donaho, Larned, Erik Jensen, Larned, Elvi Engelsman, Denmark; sister, Helen Helm, Golden, Colorado; eight grandchildren: Logan Jensen, Tera Eling, Trista Donaho, Taylan Donaho, Brianne Jensen, Christian Jensen, Jonathan Chacon, and Enya Chacon.  Eleven great-grandchildren: Lylee, Callie, Taydyn, Tavyn, Tony, Gloria Rose, Octavia, Khaleesi, Diesel, Zoey, and William.

Visitation will be held at Beckwith Mortuary from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2021 with a rosary at Beckwith Mortuary beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Memorial mass will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father Bernard Felix presiding. Donald (Don) Arthur Jensen

 Alma M. Frick, 91, passed away September 4, 2021 at Via Christi St. Francis Campus, in Wichita.

Alma was born January 16, 1930 in Larned, the daughter of Albert and Olivia Jenisch Debes. A lifetime area resident, she was a farmer and a homemaker.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and The Garden Club, all of Larned. She was a 4-H Leader and also a member of the Zook E.H.U.

On December, 5, 1951 she married Raymond G. Frick at Raton, New Mexico. He passed away on February 7, 1999.

Survivors include a son, Kent (Karen) Frick, Larned; one daughter Kim (Terry) Fairchild, Overland Park, Ks. two sisters, Katherine George, Larned, Pauline (Norman) Herrmann, Kinsley; four grandchildren, Dr. Christina Frick (Brent Maxwell), their children, Grayson, Kole and Addison Maxwell, Larned, Melissa (Matt) Brossard, their children, Harley and Carter Brossard, Topeka, Kurtis (Holly) Frick, their children, Chayse, Kaden and Paisley Frick, Larned, and Audra (Dustin) Geiger, their children, Natalie and Mason Geiger, Topeka.

Alma M. Frick

Hilda Coronel, 54, passed away September 4, 2021, at her home in Great Bend. She was born September 28, 1966, to Adolfo and Ernestina (Uribe) Coronel.

Hilda, a resident of Great Bend since 2010 coming from Salinas, Calif., worked for Kleen Smart. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose Lima Catholic Church. Hilda was an amazing cook and enjoyed flower gardening, but above all, she cherished weekend shopping trips with her children.

Survivors include her mother Ernestina Coronel of Mexico; children, Erik Solorzano and Edith Solorzano both of the home; five brothers Mario Coronel, Horacio Coronel, Juvenal Coronel, Albertano Coronel, Alberto Coronel all of Salinas, Calif.; and two sisters, Lourdes Vargas of Salinas, Calif., and Mayra Kurtz of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by her father, Adolfo Coronel; and brother, Adolfo Coronel.

Hilda Coronel

James “Jim” William Pieschl, 87, passed away September 1, 2021 at The University of Kansas Health Systems Great Bend Campus.

He was born September 19, 1933 in Larned, the son of William Henry and Oma Alice Wagner Pieschl.

A lifetime area resident he was a farmer and stockman. He was a member of Burdett United Methodist Church, past member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Ash Valley, past member of Rozel United Methodist Church, and the Santa Fe Trail Center, Larned. He enjoyed collecting cars and farming.

On December 22, 1963 he married Eulah Belle Holle at Hesston; she preceded him in death on August 5, 2013.

Survivors include three sons, Kevin Pieschl, Garfield, Kyle Pieschl, Great Bend, Marc Pieschl, Rush Center; daughter Marcia (Tim) Oberholzer, Cottonwood, Idaho; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth Orgish, Ida Pieschl, and Madelyn Pieschl.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2021 at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Pastor Linda Doyle presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Beckwith Mortuary. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery.

James “Jim” William Pieschl

Bruce Alan Petty, 77, of Stillwater, Okla., passed away on Saturday, August 21,
 2021. A graveside service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, 
September 11, 2021, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater. Due to COVID 
concerns, the family gratefully requests that attendees wear masks 
during the service. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of 
the arrangements. Bruce was born January 27, 1944, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Wava M. and 
Eldon R. Petty. He grew up in Hays, Kansas, where he met Bonnie Clair 
Brandenburg. They wed in 1966, and were happily married for 55 years. He
 taught high school art in Kansas prior to receiving a PhD. from Kansas 
State University. After serving on the faculty of the University of Kentucky College of 
Education in the 1970s (where he was named a Kentucky Colonel by the 
governor), he and his family moved to Stillwater in 1978 where he served
 as the Director of the Center for Educational Technology and Professor 
of Curriculum and Instructional Design for 28 years. He was inducted 
into the Oklahoma Educators Hall of Fame in 2012. He loved a good round of golf with his friends, and played as often as 
he was able. He was also a big fan of OSU Cowboy football and the OSU 
Cowgirls basketball team. He enjoyed volunteering at the Habitat for 
Humanity ReStore, refinishing furniture, restoring antique radios, and 
helped to start the Stillwater Antique and Classic Car Club, with whom 
he restored a 1966 Mustang and a 1971 Cutlass convertible. He told great
 jokes, sang with the SUAVE performing group, and enjoyed reading 
science fiction. Mostly, though, he loved spending time with his family. He was a devoted
 husband and father, and never missed a chance to tell his two children 
how proud he was of them, and how happy he was with who they turned out 
to be. He supported Bonnie in her career and delighted in watching his 
family grow and succeed. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Lindhorst, who passed away in June 2021. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of Stillwater, his son Brian (Chris 
Leedy), of Atlanta, his grandson Samuel Leedy Alonzo, of Shelby, Ohio, 
and his son-in-law Richard Lindhorst, of Stillwater.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages friends to hug their families,
 tell a joke to a stranger in line at the grocery store, and make

Carolyn (Valk) Givens was born May 9, 1933 in Larned, Kansas, the daughter of Earl and Vivian Valk. She passed away on September 1, 2021 in Hillsboro, Kansas at the age of 88.

She was a 1951 graduate of Larned High School and a member of the First Christian Church in Pawnee Rock, Kansas.

She married Charles Givens, August 27, 1950 in Larned, Kansas. For many years, they lived on a farm southwest of Pawnee Rock and later moved to Larned and Great Bend. Carolyn worked as an account clerk in the Reimbursement Office at Larned State Hospital for many years. She was an accomplished painter of ceramics, having sold many pieces locally, and, later on, internationally.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two infant sons.

Survivors include two sons, David (Carla) Givens of Hillsboro, Robert (Greg Coykendall) Givens of Wichita; sister, Linda (LeRoy) Wilson of Cheney, Kansas; granddaughters, Angie Margritz of Hillsboro, Renee (Jonah) Gehring of Hillsboro, Kayla (Josh) Jones of Charleston, South Carolina, and Kimberly (Troy) Zindel of Wichita; and eight great-grandchildren.

Karen A. Henneke, 80, passed away August 31, 2021, at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. She was born on May 14, 1941, at Fergus Falls, Minn. to Walter D. &amp; Dorothy (Heaton) Bradehoft. She married Wayne Henneke on March 13, 1982, at Minneapolis, Minn.

Coming to Great Bend from Minneapolis, Minn. in 1996, Karen was an engraver at Awards Incorporated, Minneapolis, retiring in 1996. She was a member of the Great Bend Zoological Society and various cat associations. Karen was a compassionate animal lover.

Survivors include, her husband, Wayne Henneke of the home; and a brother, Wayne Bradehoft of Minneapolis, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Charles Bradehoft.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding. Kathryn (Kathy) L. Blackwell, 75, passed away August 30, 2021 at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born June 17, 1946 in Wichita; the daughter of Hobert Jr. and Betty Jane Foster Yates. A longtime area resident; she was a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Ladies Golf, Ladies Bowling and Bridge Club, all of Larned.

On February 18, 1968 she married David B. Blackwell in Dighton, Kansas. He survives.

Other survivors include; two daughters, Michelle Bradley, Wichita and Staci (Tyson) Bundy, Riverside, Missouri; two brothers, Ron (Marilyn) Yates, Dodge City, David Yates, Healy and five grandchildren, Sydney, Adam, Kash, Ace and Layla.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Janie Randles and her parents, Hobert and Betty Yates.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, at the First Presbyterian Church, Larned with Pastor Bill Stapleton presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday with family present from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery.

Sharolyn J. Triplette Hughes Bennett, 75, passed away August 27, 2021, at Diversicare of Larned, KS. She was born on December 21, 1945, at Great Bend, KS, and was adopted and raised by her maternal grandparents, George &amp; Hazel (Spencer) Triplette in Hoisington, KS. Sharolyn graduated from Hoisington High School in 1963. She loved to keep in contact with all her old classmates and attend class reunions.

Sharolyn was known for knowing everyone. This was due to her many years of waitressing at Smokey’s Bar and Kiowa Kitchen. Her latest job was as a door greeter at the Dream Center in Great Bend before she took ill. She was a people person and known for her red hair. She never missed her Friday beauty shop appointments. Her favorite hobbies were playing Bingo, crocheting, coffee club, attending local sporting events, and her dogs and cats.

Sharolyn had a daughter Tammy Triplette Voeltz in Oct. of 1968. Tammy is married to Lyle and lives in Lincoln, KS. They gave Sharolyn three grandchildren, Leslie Voeltz of Osborne, KS, Sara Voeltz of Lincoln, KS, and Lucas Voeltz of Lincoln, KS. Sharolyn married Mike Hughes in 1970 and they had a son Christopher Michael (Red) Hughes in August of 1971. Chris has one son Christopher Dylon Hughes, Jacksonville, FL, and one stepson Kashe Rhoda, OK; Sharolyn had five great-grandchildren with one on the way in January 2022 and three step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, September 5, 2021, at the First Church of God in Hoisington. Sharolyn J. Triplette Hughes Bennett

Patrick Alan Turner, 78, passed away August 27, 2021, in Marquette. He was born July 2, 1943, in Wichita KS, the son of Leslie and Florence "Patsy" (Byers) Turner. Pat married Barbara Zimmerman on June 7, 1998, and they made their home in Topeka until recently moving to Marquette.

Pat grew up in Wichita, spent his young adulthood in Pratt, and moved to Larned in 1973 to open Turner Tire. He spent a number of years in the tire business, then changed careers and was employed by the Kansas Department of Corrections in Larned and Topeka until his retirement in 2006.

Pat was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church of Lindsborg, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Topeka Mustang Club, and the National Rifle Association.

Pat was well known for his big personality, his quick wit, booming voice, and a whistle that would make anyone stand at attention and bring the kids home from blocks away. He was a storyteller extraordinaire! Pat loved old cars and rock &amp; roll music. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed a good casino. He was known for being able to fix anything, and for wheeling and dealing - he loved a bargain! To his grandkids &amp; great-grandkids, Pat was known as "Grandpa Patty Poo" and always served them popsicles for breakfast. He was a great cook and was famous for his pancakes. Pat loved life and dearly loved his family and friends.

Pat's survivors include his wife, Barbara; his children, Todd Turner, Larned; Theresa "Terry" (Jon) Palmer, Larned; Cory (Randi) Turner, Cherokee IA; Christopher (Shelly) Turner, Salina; Audrey (Mike) Farmer, Little River; his brothers, Robert (Sue) Turner, Wichita; Michael Turner, Fall River; and his Sister-in-law Joanie Turner, Lakeland FL. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Timothy Turner; and brother, James Turner.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Larned, with Father Bernard Felix presiding. Inurnment will follow in the Larned Cemetery. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.

 </figure>Dateline: Marquette, KansasPatrick Alan Turner, 78, passed away August 27, 2021, in Marquette. He was born July 2, 1943, in Wichita KS, the son of Leslie and Florence "Patsy" (Byers) Turner. Pat married Barbara Zimmerman on June 7, 1998, and they made their home in Topeka until recently moving to Marquette.Pat grew up in Wichita, spent his young adulthood in Pratt, and moved to Larned in 1973 to open Turner Tire. He spent a number of years in the tire business, then changed careers and was employed by the Kansas Department of Corrections in Larned and Topeka until his retirement in 2006.Pat was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church of Lindsborg, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Topeka Mustang Club, and the National Rifle Association.Pat was well known for his big personality, his quick wit, booming voice, and a whistle that would make anyone stand at attention and bring the kids home from blocks away. He was a storyteller extraordinaire! Pat loved old cars and rock &amp; roll music. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed a good casino. He was known for being able to fix anything, and for wheeling and dealing - he loved a bargain! To his grandkids &amp; great-grandkids, Pat was known as "Grandpa Patty Poo" and always served them popsicles for breakfast. He was a great cook and was famous for his pancakes. Pat loved life and dearly loved his family and friends.Pat's survivors include his wife, Barbara; his children, Todd Turner, Larned; Theresa "Terry" (Jon) Palmer, Larned; Cory (Randi) Turner, Cherokee IA; Christopher (Shelly) Turner, Salina; Audrey (Mike) Farmer, Little River; his brothers, Robert (Sue) Turner, Wichita; Michael Turner, Fall River; and his Sister-in-law Joanie Turner, Lakeland FL. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Timothy Turner; and brother, James Turner.A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Larned, with Father Bernard Felix presiding. Inurnment will follow in the Larned Cemetery.
