Macksville – John Douglas Springer, 59, passed away December 2, 2021, at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

He was born June 25, 1962, in Larned, the son of Charles Douglas and Sarah Marie Carpenter Springer.

A lifetime area resident, he was a truck driver. John was a hardworking family man who took pride in providing for his family. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids and was so proud of seeing them making memories with their own families, he enjoyed working on things with his sons and talking to his two oldest daughters on the phone when he was trucking down the road and watching his younger daughter rodeo. He loved them and they were his world. He enjoyed family gatherings where he could sit with his dad and have a cold one. He loved watching tv in his recliner after being on the road all day. He enjoyed going to auctions, John Wayne movies, and making summer sausage and jerky for friends and family. John always saw the bright side of things.

On March 23, 1990, he married his best friend, Peggy J. Rice at Larned; she survives.

Other survivors include four sons: Joshua (Natasha) Gibson, Howard, Jared (Tamara) Miller, Ames, Iowa, Jessy Springer, Denver, Colorado, Jacob (Madi) Springer, Great Bend; three daughters, Jennifer (Derek) MacKay, Leawood, Jill (Gary) Springer, Norwich, Jordyn Springer, Macksville; father, Doug (Pat) Springer, Pawnee Rock; a brother, James Springer, Austin, Texas; two sisters, Lynn (Ned) Oak, Macksville, Lori (Pat) Boor, Larned; nine grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 13th at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Mark Hornbaker presiding. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2021.

(Frances) June Fischer, 82, passed away December 9, 2021 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned.

She was born July 22, 1939 in Marlin, Texas, the daughter of Thomas and Marie Rhodes and R.B. Cowan. June was an Alpha Gamma Delta at the University of Oklahoma, where she met her future husband, Lee Fischer. They were married on June 11, 1960, in Dallas, Texas.

When they returned to Larned, June was a homemaker and mother and completed her degree in Home Economics at Fort Hays State University. Later, she became a businesswoman as first a caterer, then the owner of The Hayloft. She was also a member of the Garden Club and J.F.R, a 4-H leader, and volunteer at the Santa Fe Trail Center and Larned Elementary School as “The Picture Lady.” As a charter member of the Larned Red Hat Society, June served as their first Queen Bee.

Family was very important to June, and she loved babysitting her grandkids and attending their activities. She was an amazing cook, and her meals were enjoyed by family, friends, and her “summer sons” who worked on the farm. She and Lee shared a passion for travel and visited six continents and over 60 countries during their years together.

She is survived by her husband Lee. Other survivors include two sons, Paul (Del) Fischer, and Bryan (Shannon) Fischer, both of Larned; two daughters, Karen (Barry) Walker, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Shelly (Kevin) Speer, Raleigh, North Carolina; two sisters, Susan (Mike) Dieterich, Brenham, Texas and Jan Cardenas, Aldeo, Texas; a brother, Mark Rhodes, Spokane, Washington, and nine grandchildren, Garrett Walker, Thomas Reams, Taralyn Walker, Libby Reams, Carlan Walker, Katie Fischer, Luke Fischer, Kira Speer, and Casey Speer.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Larned United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday with family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned.

Clifford Anthony Reid, 68, passed away in Ellinwood, KS on Dec. 7th, 2021. Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad &amp; Tobago on Sept. 5th&nbsp;1953, he was the son of Horace &amp; Yevonne (Hunt) Reid. A lifetime resident of Maloney Gardens in Trinidad &amp; Tobago he worked as the founding pastor of the Christian World Outreach Mission church. Clifford earned a bachelor’s in Theology from the West Indies School of Theology and was the Valedictorian in bible school. He married Ivy Naomi (Smith) Reid on Dec. 27, 1975. They were married for 45 years. Other survivors include Clifford’s mother, Yevonne (Hunt) Reid; Children, Clifann Birney (Bryant), Jason Reid (Meredith), Clint Reid, &amp; Crissy Reid; Grandchildren, Joshua Birney, Rachel Birney, &amp; Elise Reid; Brothers, Andy Reid, Hugo Reid, Stanley Reid, David Reid, Lester Reid and Wayne&nbsp;&nbsp;Moses; Sisters, Irma Pinkerton, Althea David, Merle Lewis, Jennifer Best and Wendy Charles.

Clifford was a kindhearted and loving person who worked hard to provide for his family and treasured his grandchildren. He authored and published the book, “The Life-Giving Tree”.

Roberto Quintana-Mocayo, 95, passed away on December 8, 2021, at his home in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on October 11, 1926, in Chihuahua, Mexco to Jose &amp; Sara (Mocayo) Quintana. He was married to Candelaria Neito-Mata. She died September 27, 2006.

Survivors include five sons, Jesus Quintana, Roberta Quintana, Jose Quintana, Carlos Quintana, all of Great Bend, Kansas and Ramon Quintana of Mexico; and a daughter, Sarah Ramirez of Great Bend, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Candelaria Quintana.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend, Kansas, with Father Prakash Kola presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend North Cemetery, Great Bend.

Roberto Quintana-Mocayo

Joellen Boman, 84, passed away December 8, 2021, at the University Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. She was born on July 17, 1937 at Great Bend, to Carroll &amp; Daisy (Spurling) Kelly.

A longtime Great Bend resident, Joellen was a caretaker at the Dominican Chapel of the Plains for many years before transferring over to CKMC. Joellen was a member of Community Christian Church. Joellen had a great love of horses and all animals. One of her most favorite jobs was working on a ranch in Altus, Okla. Joellen was a wonderful cook and enjoyed many years managing the kitchen at a truck stop in Lincoln, Neb. She also cooked for several restaurants in Great Bend over the years.

Joellen never met a stranger. She considered everyone her friend. She was known as Momma Jo, Aunt Jo, and Grandma Jo to many generations. Joellen will forever be remembered for her giving nature, kind heart, and the joy and love she provided. She spread sunshine everywhere she went.

Survivors include a brother, Chester Brown; and several nieces and nephews including, Kelly Cozby, Karen Hoffman and Rayetta Crist, who were her children at heart. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Carroll Kelly and Donald Kelly; and a sister, Betty Navarro.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 14, 2021, with Pastor Jon Hembree presiding. Memorials have been designated to the Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Joellen Boman

Ruth B. (Sheil) Murray, 97, passed away, Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at the University of Kansas Health Systems – Great Bend Campus, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on December 22, 1923, in an oil camp in Salt Springs, Wyoming, to Edward and Pauline (Driscoll) Sheil.

A long-time resident of Great Bend, she did spend some of her childhood on a farm near Cherryvale and later Lyons, Kansas. She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1941. She then attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson. Paying her way through school by doing various jobs including house cleaning and babysitting while walking the length of Hutchinson. Finally, she secured a job as a “Harvey House Girl” at the Bisonte Hotel and Restaurant, where she helped serve meals to the troop trains passing through Hutchinson during World War II.

On January 24, 1946, she married John C. Murray, a former B-29 crewmember, who had been stationed at the Great Bend Army Airfield prior to going overseas. In January of 1958, Ruth and John co-founded Murray Casing Crews, Inc., an oilfield service company that still exists after 65 years and three generations later. She was a charter member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Having survived the Depression, the Dust Bowl and World War II, she also raised three sons: John (Steve) and wife Jan of Great Bend, Kansas, Thomas (Tom) and wife Jana of Great Bend, and Philip and wife Linda of Hays, Kansas. They survive. She has four grandchildren: John (Chris) Murray and Brett Murray of Great Bend, Kansas, Derek Murray, Michigan, and Caitlyn Murray of Casper, Wyoming; one great-grandchild; one sister Nita of Spokane, Washington; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband John, an infant daughter that she lost in October 1954: Janice Marie, her parents, sister Teresa Haag, and brothers Michael, James, and John Sheil.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 13, 2021, with Altar Society Rosary at 4:00 p.m., and Vigil and rosary at 7 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Ruth B. (Sheil) Murray

Charles Oscar McIntosh, 88, passed away December 8, 2021, at the University of Kansas Health System – Great Bend Campus. He was born on December 22, 1932, to George and Olivia (Rupp) McIntosh, at Hyacinth, Kan. He married Leona Leiker on October 19, 1953, at Liebenthal. She died on January 22, 2020.

A long-time Great Bend resident, Charles was an Appraiser for Barton and Rush Counties. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and he was a former VFW member in Hays. His faith was very important to him and he ushered at church for many years. Oscar loved all of his children’s dogs as if they were his own grandchildren, but he loved the most his and Leona’s cherished Rottweiler Sasha. He taught his children how to “mechanic”: how to fix lawnmowers and cars. Oscar, or Charlie as his friends called him, was an avid bowler, starting his career, as a pinsetter, in Hays. This job helped him to spend hours bowling and he soon became manager. He also enjoyed football, his favorite, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs always, as well as tennis and basketball. Oscar was also a Golden Gloves Recipient in boxing. He loved watching tennis, boxing and the Olympics. Charles was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War Conflict, earning the rank of SP3. In 2017, Oscar was presented with his Quilt of Valor.

Survivors include his six children, Geralyn Engelken and husband Dave of Wichita, Marilyn Reifschneider and husband Jon of Arlington, Charles "Chuck" McIntosh and wife Chela of Great Bend, Tammy Romine and husband Kevin of Great Bend, Timothy McIntosh and wife Loretta of Great Bend, and Craig McIntosh of Wichita; several siblings including Wilma Jean Berger and husband Fred of Great Bend; nine grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leona; and a grandson, Joseph Gunn.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Vigil service and Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 15, 2021, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu at St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was born on December 22, 1932, to George and Olivia (Rupp) McIntosh, at Hyacinth, Kan. He married Leona Leiker on October 19, 1953, at Liebenthal. She died on January 22, 2020.A long-time Great Bend resident, Charles was an Appraiser for Barton and Rush Counties. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and he was a former VFW member in Hays. His faith was very important to him and he ushered at church for many years. Oscar loved all of his children’s dogs as if they were his own grandchildren, but he loved the most his and Leona’s cherished Rottweiler Sasha. He taught his children how to “mechanic”: how to fix lawnmowers and cars. Oscar, or Charlie as his friends called him, was an avid bowler, starting his career, as a pinsetter, in Hays. This job helped him to spend hours bowling and he soon became manager. He also enjoyed football, his favorite, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs always, as well as tennis and basketball. Oscar was also a Golden Gloves Recipient in boxing. He loved watching tennis, boxing and the Olympics. Charles was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War Conflict, earning the rank of SP3. In 2017, Oscar was presented with his Quilt of Valor.Survivors include his six children, Geralyn Engelken and husband Dave of Wichita, Marilyn Reifschneider and husband Jon of Arlington, Charles "Chuck" McIntosh and wife Chela of Great Bend, Tammy Romine and husband Kevin of Great Bend, Timothy McIntosh and wife Loretta of Great Bend, and Craig McIntosh of Wichita; several siblings including Wilma Jean Berger and husband Fred of Great Bend; nine grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leona; and a grandson, Joseph Gunn.Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Vigil service and Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 15, 2021, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Charles Oscar McIntosh

Carole J. Boor, 81, passed away December 8, 2021, at Almost Home, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born June 7, 1940, in Ellsworth, Kansas, to Stephen and Blanche Jiricek. She grew up in the Black Wolf Kansas area, attended South Excelsior country grade school and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1958.

On October 7, 1958, she was married to Bernard J. Boor and they made their life in and around the Hoisington/Claflin area.

Carole was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, where she was the organist and choir director for 24 years and a member of the Altar Society. A homemaker and farm wife, Carole was also an avid reader and gardener.

She is survived by five children; Stephen Boor of Sylvan Grove, Connie Boor of Hoisington, Mark Boor of Odin, Christopher Boor of Olmitz, and Patrick Boor and wife Lori of Larned. As well as seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and one more great-grandchild on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three infant sisters, husband, Bernard, and grandson, Jordan Boor.

Visitation will be Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Vigil with Rosary will begin at 7 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Odin, celebrated by Father Prakash Kola. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.

Norman W. Younger, age 87, of Hays, Kansas, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021 at Hays Medical Center.&nbsp; He was born October 14, 1934 to Peter M. Younger and Catherine, “Katie” (Pfannenstiel) in Ellis County, Kansas. He graduated from Hays High School.&nbsp; He married Norma Jean (Klaus) on September 5, 1959 at St. Joseph’s Church in Hays.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on May 23, 1991. Norman was a farmer and stockman.&nbsp; He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and served in the United States Army as a medic.&nbsp; During his working career, he was a truck driver and a courier, all while farming on weekends.&nbsp; During his retirement years, he farmed and raised cattle with his son Dave, and you could always find him swathing hay in the summer months.&nbsp; He also enjoyed attending polka dances with his siblings. Murphy Russel Woodmansee passed away December 7, 2021, in Barton County. He was born on March 15, 2006, in Hutchinson, to Michael &amp; Marissa (Grow) Woodmansee.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Murphy was a sophomore at Hoisington High School, where he was active in golf and band. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Great Bend and Boy Scout Troop #157. Murphy enjoyed working at his first job, Wetlands Waterpark, during the summer and playing video games, which allowed him to build and maintain valuable friendships. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with family, camping, canoeing, and kayaking.

Survivors include, his parents, Michael and Marissa Woodmansee of the home; his grandmothers, Carol Woodmansee of Great Bend and Renita Chasteen of Hoisington; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who are considered family. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Phil Woodmansee.

Leonard Lester Karst, age 95, passed away December 5, 2021, at Medicalodges of Great Bend. He was born August 22, 1926, on the farm near Galatia, the eldest of three children to Siegmund and Pauline (Miller) Karst. He was baptized on August 26, 1926, and confirmed on June 22, 1941, at the Evangelical Immanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger, Kan. He married Maybelline Steinert on April 16, 1950. They had four children.

Leonard was a farmer and carpenter working for several contractors in the Hoisington and Great Bend areas. Health concerns forced them to move to Great Bend in 1968. Over the next 45 years, he was employed at USD 428, J.C. Penney Automotive, Lindholm Construction and Lee Turner Farms. Leonard and May were owners of General Zarah’s Café and he was co-owner of G&amp;L Construction. Upon closing the business he was employed part-time at Waters True Value Hardware, fully retiring in 2012 at the age of 85. He then enjoyed his daily rounds about town starting at McDonald’s in the morning for coffee with his buddies. Anyone seeing his old blue and white GMC pickup on the streets knew he was out on his rounds.

Survivors include his children, Allen (Doris) Karst of Great Bend, Loralie Weller of Great Bend, Debra Karst of Pflugerville, Tex., and Michael (Tracey) Karst of Springfield, Mo; a sister, Darlene Reber of Calif.; a sister in law, Loene Karst of Hoisington; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one great great grandson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by his wife May of 70 years and 7 months; his parents; a brother, Clinton Karst; brother in law, Lou Reber; and one great great granddaughter, Brecklyn Paden.

Danny Joe Brough, 63, passed away December 4, 2021, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. He was born on November 22, 1958, at Great Bend, to Robert &amp; Marian Lorene (Pedigo) Brough. He married Susan Halzle on February 5, 1982 at Great Bend.

He was a longtime employee at Moeder Oil as their propane manager. Danny was an IMCA official for many years. Danny especially loved spending time with his family. He loved taking his grandson Jordan to all his motocross races. He found a second family through motocross. He loved helping all the kids with their bikes. He was their number one mechanic, cheerleader and all-around supporter.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Brough of the home; a son, Beau Brough of Great Bend and two grandsons, Jordan and Nash. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Jim Brough and Gary Brough.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Bryant Funeral Home. Danny Joe Brough

Beulah Mae Beadles, 95, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Medicalodges in Great Bend. She was born on a farm near Eakly, Oklahoma on March 5, 1926. She was the eighth and youngest child of the Reverend Luther W. and Jessie Mae (Brisendine) Skaggs. She married Carl Beadles in Custer City, Oklahoma on July 22, 1947.

Left to honor her memory are her two sons, Lonnie (Charisse) and Kenney; four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Those who have gone on before to make a place for Beulah include her parents; her husband Carl; six brothers, Lewis Skaggs, Floyd Skaggs, Eugene Skaggs, Leslie Skaggs, Luther W. Skaggs, Jr., and Calvin Skaggs; and a sister, Gladys (Skaggs) Davidson.

Growing up on a cotton farm in Caddo County, Oklahoma, Beulah began the difficult job of picking cotton by hand, milking cows and feeding livestock at an early age. Almost six feet tall, she played center on the Eakly, Oklahoma high school girls’ basketball team in the early 1940’s. She helped lead the Eakly girl’s team to a district championship in 1943.

Beulah was a homemaker until her sons were old enough to go to school. That’s when she found the career she loved. She worked in the EKG/EEG Department at the Central Kansas Medical Center for more than 20 years. Her professionalism and compassion for patients made her an important part of the CKMC medical team.

Beulah was a den mother with Pack 184 (sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church), Sunday school teacher at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, member of the Washington Elementary School PTA, American Legion Auxiliary, and Foundry Methodist Church.

During her retirement, she especially enjoyed the many trips to the Wichita Community Theatre, Branson and many other locations hosted by Mary Bender at the UMB Bank (now Landmark Bank). She also enjoyed helping with many projects at Foundry Methodist Church. Although an Oklahoma native, she became an ardent fan of the University of Kansas men’s and women’s basketball teams. She loved the people of Great Bend and Barton County and felt she was fortunate to spend most of her life in the Golden Belt.

For the past several years, Beulah suffered from crippling arthritis and many other ailments. It is a comfort to her family and her friends to know that she was healed Wednesday night in the presence of her Savior.

She married Carl Beadles in Custer City, Oklahoma on July 22, 1947.Left to honor her memory are her two sons, Lonnie (Charisse) and Kenney; four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Those who have gone on before to make a place for Beulah include her parents; her husband Carl; six brothers, Lewis Skaggs, Floyd Skaggs, Eugene Skaggs, Leslie Skaggs, Luther W. Skaggs, Jr., and Calvin Skaggs; and a sister, Gladys (Skaggs) Davidson.Growing up on a cotton farm in Caddo County, Oklahoma, Beulah began the difficult job of picking cotton by hand, milking cows and feeding livestock at an early age. Almost six feet tall, she played center on the Eakly, Oklahoma high school girls’ basketball team in the early 1940’s. She helped lead the Eakly girl’s team to a district championship in 1943.Beulah was a homemaker until her sons were old enough to go to school. That’s when she found the career she loved. She worked in the EKG/EEG Department at the Central Kansas Medical Center for more than 20 years. Her professionalism and compassion for patients made her an important part of the CKMC medical team.Beulah was a den mother with Pack 184 (sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church), Sunday school teacher at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, member of the Washington Elementary School PTA, American Legion Auxiliary, and Foundry Methodist Church.During her retirement, she especially enjoyed the many trips to the Wichita Community Theatre, Branson and many other locations hosted by Mary Bender at the UMB Bank (now Landmark Bank). She also enjoyed helping with many projects at Foundry Methodist Church. Although an Oklahoma native, she became an ardent fan of the University of Kansas men’s and women’s basketball teams. She loved the people of Great Bend and Barton County and felt she was fortunate to spend most of her life in the Golden Belt.For the past several years, Beulah suffered from crippling arthritis and many other ailments. It is a comfort to her family and her friends to know that she was healed Wednesday night in the presence of her Savior.Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Aaron Withrow presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. Beulah Mae Beadles

Wesley R. Mohr, Jr., 54, passed away December 3, 2021, at the University Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus, Great Bend. He was born November 1, 1967, in Hutchinson, to Wesley R. and Ida Mae (DeBoard) Mohr, Sr. Wes married Lisa Kern Nov. 9, 1991, in Great Bend.

Wes, a resident of Great Bend since 1999 coming from Wichita, was the owner and operator of A-One Automotive. Being of the Christian faith, Wes used his generosity and gift of mechanics to help many people in the community. He was a former board member of the Barton Community College Automotive Department and was passionate about racing, being nationally ranked with many racing circuits and organizations. One of his most renowned achievements was being the recipient of the Hutchinson Grand National Champion. Above all, he was a dedicated family man, especially enjoying his children's activities, especially Quick Silver softball and Bombers Baseball.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa, and his children, Taylor Vasquez, Kylee Mohr and Slade Mohr all of the home; three brothers, Phillip Stefanski of Mo., Eldon Stefanski of Great Bend and Jeff Stefanski of Hoisington; six sisters, Cheryl Asher of Mo., Marla Derstein of Mo., Jeanie Field of Nickerson, Dee Gisel (Dennis) of Lawrence, Kathy Bush of Hutchinson, and Tina Mohr (Gary) of Cal.; uncle, Kenneth Mohr (Shari) of Ga.; aunt, Arletta Detherage of Great Bend; father and mother-in-law, Terry and Marie Kern of Great Bend; brother-in-law, Pat Kern of Great Bend, and sister-in-law, Loretta Murphy (Jim) of Great Bend.

She is survived by her two children; Jebediah Cole Detter of Nixa, Missouri, and Caitlin Denise Alexander of Dodge City; three grandchildren, Annalise Marie and Grayson Cole Detter, and Jack Lee Alexander; a sister, Valerie Jean Kizzar and husband Frank of Jal, New Mexico; a brother, Bart G. James Monroe “Jim” Cornwell, Sr., died December 2, 2021, at his home in Hoisington. He was born August 24, 1938, in Sharon, Kansas, the son of Newton M. and Esther S. (Gillig) Cornwell. Jim was a 1956 graduate of Kiowa High School, Kiowa, Kansas.

On June 14, 1958, he married Jannette L. “Jan” Harris in Kiowa, Kansas. She preceded him in death on November 20, 2007.

A longtime Hoisington resident, Jim worked for the Telephone Company for over 40 years, retiring as a Network Technician. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hoisington, the Hoisington and Great Bend Archery Clubs, and Hoisington Historical Society.

He is survived by two sons, James Monroe “Bo” Cornwell, Jr. and wife Kim of Mt. Cory, Ohio, and Brett M. Cornwell and wife Crystal of Hollister, Missouri; two daughters, Terri Szendrodi of Hoisington, and Sherri Jackson and husband Danny of Hill City; two brothers, Charles Cornwell of Springdale, Arkansas, and Donald Cornwell of Tijares, New Mexico; a sister-in-law, Asa Cornwell of Springdale, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

He was born January 27, 1943 in Great Bend, KS, the son of Milton Glenn and Velda Jo Akin Woodard. A Larned area resident, he was of the Christian faith. After serving four years in the United States Navy, he worked as an airline manager.

Dennis LeRoy Boese, 72, died November 30, 2021, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. He was born September 20, 1949, in LaCrosse, Kansas, the son of Wilbert W. and Gwendolyn M. (Norman) Boese. Dennis graduated from Hoisington High School. He was a Vietnam veteran serving with the United States Marine Corps from 1967- 1969. He later decided to reenlist with the United States Army.

Dennis was a truck driver, a job he loved, often on the road anywhere from North Dakota to Texas. He most recently hauled wind turbine blades for American Wind under Denton Heavy Haulers. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3111 of Great Bend.

Survivors include three children; Jimmy Boese (Marissa) of Castle Rock, CO; Nicole Potter (Michael) of Hutchinson, and Holly Boese of Hays; a brother, David L. Boese; and a sister, Diana Wilson (Richard), all of Susank; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis LeRoy Boese, Jr. and a daughter, Amy Lynn Boese.

She was born July 18, 1942 in Pawnee County; the daughter of Robert A. and Lucile G. Rucker Bauer. She was a Registered Nurse for 30 years working for the V.A. in San Diego and Martinez, California and Denver, Colorado.

She was of the Christian Faith. She graduated from Burdett High School in 1960; attended a business college in Hutchison, Kansas; and later in life, she obtained her nursing degree in California. After retiring in 2007 she volunteered for hospice at local hospitals. She enjoyed traveling and hiking and loved her animals and her family.

In June of 1961 she married Orel A. Schadel Jr., they had four children; they later divorced in January of 1978; in 1982 she married Bob Kropp in San Diego, California, they later divorced.

Survivors include four children, Traci (Daniel) Nuckolls, Burdett; Trudi (Rod) Eldridge, Larned; Tonya Schadel, Larned and Steven Schadel, Denver, Colorado; three siblings, Connie Ellis, San Carlos, California, Edward Bauer, Burdett and Randy (Linda) Bauer, Fairbury, Nebraska; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, one on the way and various nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law Tom Seltmann.

Cremation has taken place with a memorial service at a later date.

Jimmy L. Dalton, 71, Great Bend, Kansas, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021, at the University of Kansas Health Systems Great Bend Campus, Great Bend, Kansas.

Jimmy was born October 26, 1950, in Abilene, Kansas, the son of Harold Dean and Mary Ella (Johnson) Dalton. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas, and Barton County, Kansas. Jimmy cleaned homes for private individuals before his retirement.

Survivors include: one son, Curtis Dalton (Kandi Engel), Bison, Kansas; two brothers, Jerry Dalton (Rhonda), Wichita, Kansas, and Robert “Bob” Dalton (Mary), Bison, Kansas; two sisters, Connie Wharton (Lyle), Kansas, and Lonnie Call, Arlington, Kansas; one brother in law, Robert Giesick, Hutchinson, Kansas; and one sister in law, Debbie Dalton, Otis, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Terry Dalton; and one sister, Norma Giesick.

Graveside memorial service will be Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. at the Baptist Cemetery, Bison, Kansas, with Pastor Terry Warner officiating. Inurnment will be in the Baptist Cemetery, Bison, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to Jimmy’s family who will designate a specific charity in the future.

Jimmy L. Dalton

James Phillips “Phil” Busenbark, 89, passed away November 26, 2021 at Diversicare of Larned.

Phil was born on January 11, 1932 in Larned, the son of James Walton and Maude Ester Phillips Busenbark.

He was a lifetime area resident, a Teacher, Psychologist, Coach, and sports enthusiast. Phil retired as a Psychologist at the Iroquois Center for Human Development in Greensburg, KS at the age of 86.

On June 6, 1954 he married Meribeth Mae Turner in Belpre, KS. She survives.

Other survivors include daughter Janet (Andrew) James, Raymore, MO; son Eric (Jennifer) Busenbark, Lenexa, KS; three grandsons, Phillip Dale James, Kansas City, MO, Elijah Turner James, Raymore, MO, and Eric Brandon Busenbark, Kansas City, MO; two great-granddaughters, Emma James and Bentlee James. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James Phillips “Little Phil” Busenbark II, and a great-grandson, Riddick Issac Turner James.

Family, church, and sports were Phil’s passions. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rozel, KS, served as the Rotary Club President in Larned, and was on the school board and church board in Larned and Rozel. Phil participated in various sports as he grew up, and was a college letterman on the track team at Fort Hays. He taught and coached high school basketball at Collier, KS and Rozel High Schools and coached the Larned Cobras girls’ fastpitch softball team. Phil refereed high school basketball games for years and attended the National Junior College Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson, KS for more than thirty years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and Phil and Meribeth were regulars on the golf course at the Larned Country Club for many years. They were dedicated travelers and enjoyed many ocean cruises with friends and trips to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and Branson, MO with family.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with Charles “Buddy” and Judi Tabler presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, December 3, 2021, with family present from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the mortuary. Inurnment will be in the Belpre Cemetery, Belpre, KS.

James Phillips “Phil” Busenbark

  Great Bend KS and former Wallace County, KS resident Dolores P Medina, 87, passed away on November 23, 2021, at Azria Health Nursing Home in Great Bend, KS.

   Dolores was born on December 9, 1933, in Chacon, New Mexico, to Roberto and Abelina (Gonzalez) Torrez. She was one of eight children, three brothers and four sisters. The family moved to Olney Springs, Colorado where Dolores and her siblings attended school and had numerous stories about growing up in the Arkansas Valley.

   On September 22, 1951, she married Jess Medina and to this union five children were born, Rita, Jess, Sara, Norman and Celia. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren and attending ball games and school activities.  

   Dolores worked at the Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Sharon Springs, KS for 17 years starting in 1981, earning her Medication Aide Certification in 1986 and continued working until 1998. She retired and moved to Great Bend, KS. She enjoyed watching her KU basketball and Denver Bronco football games with her little dog Magoo in her arms and let everyone know not to call her until the games were over!! 

   Preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter Celia Jane Medina, one son Norman Gary Medina, three sisters and two brothers.

   She is survived by her children Rita (Dennis) Smith of Weskan, KS, Jess (Carmen) Medina of San Antonio, TX, formerly of Sublette, KS and Sara (Gary) Pletcher of Great Bend, KS. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law Cindy Medina of Salina, KS, one brother Cipriano (Mary) Torrez of Jacksonville, FL, one sister Gloria (Mark) Kreidler of Sunnyvale, CA, eleven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

   Services for Dolores will be held at a later date.
