Dolores A. Burgardt, 76, died on November 27, 2021, at the University Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. She was born on February 27, 1945, at Hays, Kansas to Aloysius &amp; Cleopha Elizabeth (Herrman) Leiker. She married Elmer Burgardt on December 31, 1966 at Great Bend. He survives.

Mrs. Burgardt was a Great Bend, Kansas resident. She was a part-owner of the Tumble In Laundromat and most recently worked various jobs at nursing homes and restaurants. Dolores was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima and the Altar Society, a senior companion, and enjoyed crocheting and cooking.

Survivors include her husband, Elmer Burgardt, of the home; two sons, Elmer Burgardt, Jr. of Great Bend, Kansas, Joe (Paula) Burgardt of Foley, Minnesota; two daughters, Rhonda (Chris) Hill of Granby, Colorado, Angela Lemonds of Hutchinson, Kansas; one brother, Donald (Toni) Leiker of Great Bend, Kansas; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Darlene Dean.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2021, with Altar Society Rosary at 4:00 p.m., with Vigil and Rosary at 7:00 p.m., all of Bryant Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 3, 2021, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Prakash Kola presiding. Randall Brian Selfridge of Burdett, Kansas passed away at Hodgeman County Health Center, Jetmore, Kansas on Friday, November 19, 2021.

Randy was born June 26, 1951 at Larned, Kansas to Elmer and Ina Mae Eakin Selfridge. He was one of the babies born in the first year of the new hospital, St Joseph Memorial Hospital. He was a farmer, and a lifetime resident of Hodgeman County, living north and west of Hanston until 1964 when the family bought the farm west of Burdett. Randy started first grade at 6 years old at Hanston Grade School and graduated from Hanston High School in 1970. He stayed home for a year after graduation, and made enough money to buy his car, then attended Kansas State University in Manhattan. Upon returning home, he became a vital part of Five Star Farm, working alongside his parents and brothers. Randy was a fine welder and built and repaired things of steel. When it was planting time, Randy took pride in planting straight rows. He custom harvested locally, and some in Eastern Colorado. He chopped and fed a lot of silage over the years and built and repaired a lot of fences. He drove school bus routes and activity trips for Pawnee Heights School District. The last years of working, he enjoyed driving tractors over the same acres he had farmed year after years before.

Randy is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ina Mae Selfridge, and a first cousin of his generation, Karen Selfridge Maxwell. Survivors include his daughter Molly (Josh) Gauger and granddaughter, Melody Mae Gauger of Hays, Kansas.

Brothers, Brad (Lynne) Selfridge (Ohio), Wade Selfridge of Hanston, and Tyler (Margaret) Selfridge of Burdett.

Nieces and Nephews, Levi Selfridge and Sarah Selfridge Christopherson, Lucas Selfridge, Rebecca Selfridge, Jason Selfridge, and Nathan Selfridge, Eva Selfridge and Leslie Selfridge Montecello.

First cousins of his generation and trusted lifetime friends, Lois Selfridge Price, Allen Selfridge, and Janet Selfridge, David Chaffee, Katie Chafee, and Rodney Chaffee.

Cremation has taken place. He will be buried at Browns Grove Cemetery, near his parents.

A celebration of life for Randy will be held at a later date.

James Thomas Goodenough, 53, went home to be with the Lord and his parents, Norma and Billy Goodenough, on November 25, 2021. He was born May 25, 1968, in Long Beach, California.

Being raised in Iola, Jim was a long-time Great Bend resident, who also resided in Ohio. Jim fulfilled one of his dreams of owning his own semi-truck and trucking company, “Goodenough Trucking, LLC”. He and his wife enjoyed running the business together as partners in life, as well as business. He also enjoyed working on cars, NASCAR, and the LA Rams.

Jim left shattered his loving and devoted wife, Tammy; brothers, Mark (Darcy) Goodenough of Great Bend, Kansas, and Matthew (Lisa) Goodenough of Las Vegas, Nevada; children, Summer (Kendall) McKee of Fredonia, Kansas, Trent Goodenough of Wichita, KS, Trey (Olivia) Smith of Wichita, KS, Thomas “Tommy” (Kayla) Goodenough of Wellington, Ohio, Julia Hitts of Toledo, Ohio, M.J. She was born on July 5, 1949, at Concordia, to Delmar &amp; Mildred Elaine (Durham) Cox. Kay married Steven Krouse on June 12, 1971, and was blessed with 3 daughters. They later divorced.

A Great Bend resident since 1989, Kay was a paraprofessional for Barton County Special Services from 2005-2020. She had also previously been a teacher and librarian for Otis-Bison school district from 1971-2005. She loved teaching and tutoring students. Kay received her bachelor’s degree from Bethany College and her master’s degree from Fort Hays State University. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Great Bend and Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Key Women Educators. Kay enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, spending time with her dogs and especially loved playing games with her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, baking and canning as well.

Survivors include three daughters, Kimberly Kay Krouse of Overland Park, Kristi Lynn Mason and husband Richard and Karyl Elaine Wahlmeier and husband Jesse, all of Great Bend; and five grandchildren, Sydney Mason, Teagan Mason, Evan Mason, Kaylin Wahlmeier and Keaton Wahlmeier. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he worked for South Bend Township as a Heavy Equipment Operator until his retirement in 2016. His life’s passions were fishing and hunting.

Gary Dewayne Barr, 86, died November 20, 2021, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, in his home, in Hoisington, Kansas. He was born March 3, 1935, at Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Herbert G. &amp; Ethel Mae (Linenger) Barr. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954.

He was married to Joan Payne in 1954 in Dodge City, they later divorced. He then married Carolyn Mae Jones on May 30, 1979, at Hoisington, Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 31, 2021.

A long-time Hoisington resident, Gary worked for Rainbow Bread in route sales for 37 years, retiring in 1998. Gary was a member of New Life Baptist Church, the V.F.W. #3111 in Great Bend, the National Appaloosa Club, and was a horse enthusiast.

Survivors include children, Steven (Debbie) Barr of Cimarron, David (Patricia) Barr of Wichita, Kimberly (Eugene) Schneweis of Hoisington, Kevin (Susan) Barr of Minco, Oklahoma, Pamela Douglas and Brad Barr both of Magnolia, Texas, and James (Deborah) Brehm of Perry, and Desda Brehm of South Carolina; a sister, Wanda Larson of Washington State; a brother, Donald (Rita Kay) Barr of Liberal; 25 grandchildren, including, Michele Berends, Heather Helvie, Alesia Schneweis, Candis Sykes, Joshua Barr, Stephanie Petermann, Jennifer Schrock, Stacey Howard, Amy Lynn Housh, Justin Barr, Rebecca Barr, Dillon Jasperson, Megan Jernigan, Sherinda Grounds, Taylor Wendel, Hannah Frisbee, Kaylee Frederick, Lillie Barr, Amanda Ricken-Long, and Jacob Evans; and 35 great-grandchildren, including, Matthew Mayers, Isabelle and Isaiah Berends, Morgan Custine, Landon Thomas, Ashlyn, Khilyn, Rozalyn, and Isiah Barr, Silas and Sadie Petermann, R.J. Lenora was born on November 24, 1950, in Beloit, KS, to Fred H. and Edna P. (Nusbaum) Quade.&nbsp; She moved to Great Bend, KS as a small child and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1968. &nbsp; On November 30, 1969, she married V. Lynn Schmitt in Great Bend, KS, and to their union were born BJ, Monnie and Eric.&nbsp; They later divorced. On January 10, 1976, Lenora married her soul mate, Daniel Grover, in Great Bend, KS.&nbsp; To this union, Heather, was born.&nbsp; Lenora’s life with Daniel took her to several states, including Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma and back to Kansas, where they settled in Hays in 1990. Lenora was a fabulous cook, learning all she knew from her mother.&nbsp; She tried her hand at many things, including managing an Eyewear Business in Great Bend, a Sheriff’s Deputy in Oakley, KS and food service in Ness City.&nbsp; Her passion always led her back to taking care of the public and working in the food industry.&nbsp; She met so many people along the way and never knew a stranger. &nbsp; She had a kind soul and treated everyone with genuine love.&nbsp; She had a memorable personality and although tiny, she never let her size get in the way.&nbsp; Her greatest accomplishment was her family.&nbsp; Time spent with her kids and grandkids was very precious to her.&nbsp; She loved her Lord and Savior and her faith carried her through. Andrew Scott Campbell Sr. was born June 6, 1977, in McPherson, KS and 
was raised by Vivian and Randall Campbell. He passed away November 21, 
2021, at the age of 44. 
 Andrew grew up in Great Bend and attended the local schools, where 
he was active in sports. He enjoyed traveling, working out, and fishing 
with his buddies. Andrew always noticed and paid special attention to 
children and made them feel loved. He loved food, animals, all kinds of 
music, and most of all he loved the Kansas City Chiefs. While in Norton,
 he worked on the Bullseye Ranch and helped renovate several buildings. 
Andrew lit up a room every time he walked in and most recently, he was a
 mentor to many who were struggling with addiction. He preached his 
sobriety and was so proud of his accomplishments, and his family was 
very happy for all that he had overcome. Andrew was a big part of the 
Freedom Choice Group and spent all his downtime encouraging others and 
uplifting them. 
 Andrew was preceded in death by his father, Randall L. Campbell. He 
is survived by his mother, Vivian Campbell and husband LeRoy Armijo of 
Commerce City, CO; daughter, Haley Glover of Forsyth, MO; son, Andrew 
Glover Campbell, Jr. of Forsyth, MO; sister, Amy Campbell of Commerce 
City, CO; niece, Micayla Campbell of Brighton, CO; nephew, Dylan

Walter C. Underwood, 92, passed away November 23, 2021, at Brookdale Senior Living in Great Bend. He was born on June 11, 1929, to Kenneth &amp; Edna (Russell) Underwood. He married Theoda Martin on March 29, 2951, at Raton, New Mexico.

Coming to Great Bend from Dodge City in 1974, Walter was the Plant Superintendent of Western P&amp;L, Sunflower Electric, Wheatland Electric and Aquila, having retired in 1991. He was a member of First Baptist Church and loved studying the Bible. He enjoyed woodworking and restoring antique John Deere tractors.

Survivors include his wife Theoda Underwood of the home; two sons, Mark Underwood and wife Sherri of Sharon, Kan., and Pat Underwood and wife Kerry of Blanchard, Okla.; two daughters, Debbie Chapman and husband Michael of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Denise Scott and husband Bryan of Great Bend; sixteen grandchildren; and thirty-six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Charles Underwood.

Martha Jane Cline, 55, passed away November 19, 2021, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo. She was born on June 5, 1966, at Hoisington, to Basil &amp; Lou Ann (Brinson) Fitzpatrick. She married Roy Cline in Great Bend on January 26, 1990.

A lifetime Barton County resident, Martha was a 15-year employee/manager at Club 1 Fitness. She also had previously worked in the Environmental Services department at Larned State Hospital and as a custodian for USD 428. She was a member of CrossPoint Church of Great Bend, where she taught children’s church and facilitated a Bible Study. She enjoyed raising her kids and grandchildren and was also known to be a “mom” to many other children. Martha especially loved to spend time with her family.

Survivors include three daughters, Amber Cline and Katrina Cline, both of Great Bend, and Dessa Cline of Junction City; two brothers, Russell Hunter of Great Bend, and Buddy Fitzpatrick of Mo.; a sister, Debra Richardson of Tex.; two grandchildren, Lydia Miller and Katara Leon; her grandcat; and a large extended family. Lynette Dea Gallentine, 55, passed away November 19, 2021, at OU Health - University Of Oklahoma Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Okla. She was born October 25, 1966, in Great Bend, to Carl and Dolores (Bauer) Maddy. Lynette married Jerry Gallentine on June 30, 2018, in Oberlin.

Lynette, a resident of Clayton since 2018 coming from Barton County, was a long-time devoted nurse. She had recently worked at Logan Manor, Logan, previously working at Diversicare, Larned, Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, and The Children's Clinic, CKMC, and Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation, all of Great Bend. She enjoyed Mickey Mouse collectibles and decorating, but especially cherished her time with family and her wiener dog Gretta.

Survivors include her husband Jerry of the home; parents, Carl and Dolores Maddy of Logan; one son, Gannon Radenberg and his companion Brooke Oleson of Lenexa; one daughter, Taryn Mitchell and husband Jack of Great Bend; one granddaughter, Emersyn Mitchell; two brothers, Steven Maddy and wife Clairissa of Wichita, and Mike Maddy of Larned; one sister, Terri Kennard of Wichita; stepson, Stephen Gallentine of Ashland, Neb.; and stepdaughter, Brooke Gallentine of Perry, Ga.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington, with Pastor Tim Singleton presiding. Gwen Irene Walter, 85, passed away November 20, 2021 at Pratt Regional Medical Center, Pratt.

She was born October 5, 1936 in Arnold, Nebraska, the daughter of Ralph Earl and Irene Violet Norall Alexander.

Moving from Lyons, she was an area resident since 1971. She was a group manager of Alco and a member of the First Christian Church, both of Larned.

On April 5, 1954, she married Vurn “Shorty” Walter at Kearney Nebraska; he preceded her in death on March 18, 2005.

Survivors include five children, Robert L. (Mary) Walter, McPherson, Connie Lou (Raul) Servin, San Antonio, Texas, Bruce E. (Julia) Walter, Turon, Thomas E. Walter, Larned, Rocky (Linda) Fox, Pratt; one sister, Judy (George) Lookhart, Manhattan; twenty-one grandchildren, forty-six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Ralph D. Alexander, and two sisters, Joan Bagley and Virginia Moore.

Jerrol Keith Beckwith, 86, went to be with Jesus November 17, 2021 at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

He was born October 12, 1935 in Larned, the son of Carrol Kneeland and Hazel Carolyn Smith Beckwith.

A lifetime area resident, he was a banker, working in St. Joseph, Missouri, and Stafford, Liberal, and Lorraine, Kansas. He was a member of Encounter Church, Great Bend and was very civic-minded, serving on city councils, volunteer fire departments, and in the United States Navy.

On January 19, 1964, he married Oleta Louise Weaver at Larned; she survives.

Other survivors include a son, Darren (Lisa) Beckwith, Ellinwood; daughter, Jill (Aaron) Sauer, Ellinwood; two brothers, Kim Monroe (Cheryl) Beckwith, Larned, Kevin Theodore (Suzanne) Beckwith, Perry; sister, Kathy Jo (Keith) Johnson, Pleasant Hill, IA; six grandchildren, Danielle Beckwith, Oklahoma City, OK, Darrien (Andy) Wiechman, Midland, TX, Delaney Meg Beckwith, Oklahoma City, OK, Mallory (Joe) Auer, Ethan Sauer, Madison Sauer, all of Ellinwood; and one great-granddaughter, Lexi Auer.

Jerrol Keith Beckwith

Marilyn Mae Davis, 79, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2021, surrounded by her family and friends in her last days. She lived a long, happy life, and passed away peacefully at the University of Kansas Health Systems – Great Bend Campus, after a short battle with colon cancer. Marilyn was born February 2, 1942 in the small town of Minot, N.D. to Marvin and Helen Gunter. Marilyn married Lawrence D. “L.D.” Davis August 16, 1969, at St. Louis, Mo. He passed away May 27, 2016.

Her father became the principal at her school, so doing her homework was not an option. Raised to believe that education and Christian faith were important pillars in life, she moved to St. Paul, Minn. to pursue nursing in college. After graduating, she moved to St. Louis, Mo. where she worked as a nurse. It was here she would meet the love of her life (L.D. Davis) and six short months later, they were married! Together, they moved to Great Bend where they would raise a family, share lifelong friendships, travel the world, and even open their own business they would call L.D. Drilling. Marilyn would hang up her scrubs and dive feet first into the oilfield, working in the family business until the end of her days.

Known as a straight talker, kind and generous to all, with an ornery sense of humor, she was loved by all who knew her. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Ellinwood, for over 40 years, and attended Encounter Church (First Assembly of God), Great Bend. Having a servant’s heart, Marilyn generously supported many charities, ministries and missions. Her favorite things to do were to visit with dear friends, have her "grandma day" every Saturday, and play her favorite games of Chicken Foot and Uno.

She is survived by her two sons, Larry Davis and companion Tina Lankas of McKinney, Texas, and Mark and Kathleen Davis of Ellinwood; five grandchildren, Jessica Way of Benson, Minn., Kaili Davis of Kansas City, Kan., as well as Aidan, Isabella, and Quinlyn Davis, all of Ellinwood; three siblings, Don Gunter of East St. Louis, Ill., Margie Carlson and husband Dan of Las Vegas, Nev., and Carol Witt-Strassburger and husband Bob of Greenbay, Wis.; and step son-in-law, Scott Brummitt of Edmond, Okla. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, L.D. Davis; a stepdaughter, Dawn Nell Brummitt; and her sister-in-law, Royal Gunter.

She will be missed, loved, and always remembered.

Virginia Ann “Ginger” Bott, 70, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at her home in La Crosse, Kansas.

Ginger was born June 9, 1951, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of Charles Glenn and Margaret Veronica (Delaney) Seaman.&nbsp; Most of Ginger’s life was spent as a resident of Rush County, Kansas.&nbsp; A huge part of Ginger’s life was the Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, Kansas, where she was employed for more than 30 years before her retirement.

Survivors include one son, Jamey Bott (Ashley), Russell, Kansas; one daughter, Michelle Ring, Hays, Kansas; three grandchildren, Delaney Bott, Anderson Bott, and McCallian “Calli” Bott; three sisters, JoAnn Huber, La Crosse, Kansas, Karen Depperschmidt, El Reno, Oklahoma, and Janet Basgall (Virgil), Carson City, Nevada; and numerous nephews and nieces.

A lifetime Hoisington resident, John graduated from Hoisington High School Class of 1965 and attended Beauty Academy in Great Bend and was a licensed cosmetologist. After graduating cosmetology school, John and his twin brother, Don, were co-owners of Hair Fashion Salon. Shortly after opening the salon, John was called to serve his country. He served as a corpsman in a Korean MASH unit during the Vietnam War. John began working at Dillons in Great Bend in 1974 and was retired from there in 2011 after 36 1/2 years.

As a lifetime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, he served on the church council and was the church organist for 53 years. John began a long career in cake decorating in 1979 for his twin brother’s wedding cake. Over the years, countless cakes were made for family and friends throughout the region and as far away as Norman, Oklahoma.

John is survived by wife Julie and daughter Joelle Hein-Jacobs; two grandchildren, Jensen Jacobs and Jozie Jacobs, both of Great Bend; sister-in-law, Sheila Hein, and brother and sisters-in-law, Peter Hester, Jayme Walker, Joni Rowl and husband Dennis, Janelle Ross and friend Bill Koonce; numerous nieces and nephews, Shawn (Jenn) Hein, Courtney (Fred Shofler) Walker, Thomas (Jenny) Walker, Jason (Darcy) Rowl and family, Ryan (Heather) Rowl and family, Andrew (Whitney) Rowl and family, Kyle (Sarah Schulte) Rowl, Jackie (James) Mayonado and family.

He was preceded in death by and his parents, a twin brother, Don Hein, and nephew, Douglas Hein.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 18, 2021, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Prayer service will begin at 7 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be Friday, November 19, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hoisington, with Pastor Wayne Balyga presiding. Burial will follow at Hoisington Cemetery, Hoisington, Kansas.

John David Hein

Doris T. Weiser, 93, died November 13, 2021, at Country Place Senior Living, Hoisington, Kansas. She was born October 28, 1928, on the family farm near Odin, Kansas, the daughter of William B. and Frances (Frenzel) Zecha.

On June 8, 1948, she married Herbert A. Weiser at Holy Family Catholic Church, Odin, Kansas. He preceded her in death on February 27, 1991.

A longtime Hoisington resident, Doris was a homemaker and bookkeeper for the family businesses, Hoisington Oil Company, and the Conoco service station. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society. Doris was well known for her baking and was often gifting her delicious baked goods to family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Weiser and wife Karen of Oro Valley, Arizona, and Eugene Weiser of Hoisington; a daughter, Susan Graves of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; a sister, Lucille Schneweis of Wichita; five grandchildren, David Kilroy of Denver, Kristin Frazier of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Brian Weiser of Junction City, Eric Weiser of Tucson, Arizona, and Jesse Weiser of Thornton, Colorado; four great-grandchildren, Kristi Blevins, Hadrian, Dimitri, and Augustus Weiser; and one great-great-granddaughter, Aela Blevins.
