Carl D. Steinert, 75, died Oct. 23, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born Aug. 11, 1947, in Hays, the son of Wilbert O. And Beatrice J. (Venus) Steinert. Carl graduated from Gorham High School in 1965, and later from the Wichita Barber School.

A resident of the Bushton area for 48 years, he began his barber shop experience having shops in both Holyrood and Bushton. Later he worked as a pumper in the oil field, and finally retiring from Oneok Gas Processing Plant in Bushton, where he also served on the Fire Brigade.

On Sept. 2, 1967, he married Clydell Rafferty in Russell. Together they raised four boys.

Carl loved working around his farm, giving haircuts to his family, and especially loved spending time with his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Clydell Steinert of the home; sons, Craig (Tom Mulloy) Steinert of Kansas City, Mo., Curtis (Kim) Steinert of Lehigh; and Cory (Traci) Steinert of Midlothian, Texas; daughter-in-law, Tina Steinert of Lyons; siblings, Roger (Kay) Steinert of Leawood, Lloyd (Susan) of Merritt Island, Flo., Roy (Jeanette) Steinert of Wichita, Judy (Paul) Schmidtberger of Russell, Don (Jane) Steinert of Claflin, and Mary Lou Steinert of Lawrence; sister-in-law, Cheryl Steinert of Lyons; six grandchildren, Cortney (Jeff) Schwarz, Cayla, Casen, Cheyenne, Hadley, and Hudson Steinert; and one great-grandson, Conner Schwarz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Clinton Steinert, and a brother, Jim Steinert.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Friday, October 28, 2022, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington, with Pastor Debby Rains presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galatia.

Larry Lee McMillan, 82, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away October 23, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born April 20, 1940, in Hutchinson, the son of Ralph “Si” and Pearl Hazel Corwin McMillan. 

Larry has resided in Lyons for the past seventeen years, formerly of Hutchinson. He graduated from Buhler High School, Buhler, with the class of 1958 and graduated from Adele Hale Business College in Hutchinson in 1969. Larry was the past vice president of sales at Borton, LLC in Hutchinson for 40 years, retiring in 2009. He served in the United States Air Force from 1958 until 1963. 

Larry was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lyons, where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the United Methodist Men and served on the Methodist Staff/Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. Larry was past president of Circe 6 Saddle Club, Sand Hills Saddle Club, and Hutchinson Saddle Club; past board member of Park Place Housing Urban Development (HUD) in Lyons, past board member of Lyons Town and Country Club; and past president of Kiwanis of Hutchinson. He was also a member of the American Legion, where he received a quilt for his many years of military service. He enjoyed golfing, playing card games, and most of all spending time with his family and friends. Larry didn’t know a stranger and enjoyed visiting with everyone. 

On October 27, 1961, Larry was united in marriage with Kay Ramsay in Hutchinson. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his three children, Jeff McMillan (Karla) of Kansas City, MO, David Lee McMillan (Kim) of McPherson, and Edgar “Butch” Buckner (Amanda) of Arlington; nephew, Ralph McMillan (Tena) of Dallas, TX; fifteen grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Larry is preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Clara McMillan; niece, Sonia; and nephew, Charlie.

Gary Wayne Pletcher, 80, passed away on October 23, 2022, at University of Kansas Health Systems – Great Bend. He was born on October 30, 1941, to William and Ruth (Crosby) Pletcher in Frankfort, Kan. On January 24, 1991, he married the love of his life, Sara Medina, in Las Vegas, Nev. She was always by his side until the end; she survives.

Coming from Sharon Springs in 1985, Gary was a resident of Great Bend since 1985. He was a self-employed farmer, truck driver, aerial sprayer, and salon construction manager. Gary was a “jack of all trades”, being known for his carpentry, mechanic skills, and piloting abilities, especially with his Calm Air Aerial Spraying service. He was a member of the Sharon Springs Wesleyan Methodist Church, carrying his faith with him throughout his work and life. Gary was also a member of the Good Guys Car Club, IHRA, and was a circle track driver, winning nationals at Hutchinson in 1975-76.

Survivors include his wife Sara of the home; Tyler Pletcher and Jenna with grandson, Abel Pletcher, of Hoisington, Kan.; Lisa Amerine with grandson, Ethyn Pletcher, of Ellinwood, Kan.; his brother, Donnie (Louise) Pletcher of Sharon Springs, Kan.; siblings-in-law, Dennis (Rita) Smith of Weskan, Kan., and Jess (Carmen) Medina of San Antonio, Tex.; close family friend (P.I.C.), Rhonda Hughes of Great Bend, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jodi Lynn; in-laws, Jess and Dolores Medina; and a brother-in-law, Norman Medina.

Gary Pletcher, age 80

Beverly Ann “Bev” Roelfs, 75, of Bushton, Kansas, passed away October 24, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society of Ellsworth, Kansas. She was born January 6, 1947, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Edwin and Louise K. Gabel Vest. 

She graduated from St. Mary of the Plains High School, Dodge City, Kansas and received her Registered Nursing degree at Dominican School of Nursing, Great Bend. She worked as an RN at Halstead Hospital, Halstead, Kansas, Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons, and the Lyons Medical Center. Bev was also a farmer wife and homemaker. 

She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Bushton, where she was a member of the altar society; and a member of the 3T Card Club. Bev was a seamstress, enjoyed gardening; and most of all spending time with her family. 

On October 25, 1969, Bev was united in marriage with Charles “Charlie” Roelfs in Bushton. They were one day short of celebrating their 53rd wedding anniversary. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her two children, Julie Gattenby and husband Jeff of Bison, KS, Bryan Roelfs and wife Tina of Sterling, KS; brother, David Vest of Independence KS; sister, Mary Lou Vest of Bakersfield, CA; and two grandchildren, Megan and Sydney Roelfs. 

Bev is preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Don Vest. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Bushton, with Father Michael Brungardt and Father Chrysostom Ah Moung officiating. Beverly 'Bev' Roelfs, age 75

Ann Marie Tournear, 43, passed away on Oct. 15, 2022, at Via Christ St. Francis, Wichita. She was born on Jan. 23, 1979, to Anthony and Zoella Wohletz in Kingman. On Dec. 10, 2004, she married Greg Tournear at Columbia, Mo. He survives.

Ann was an active member of H.O.G. (Harley Owner Group) and the NHRA. She liked being on her phone and loved spending time riding her Harley.

Survivors include her husband, Greg of the home; her father, Anthony Wohletz; a son, Jessie Wohletz; a daughter, Jasmine Wohletz; two stepsons, Gregory Tournear and Triton Tournear; and six grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother Zoella; and a sister, Karyeen.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be no services at this time. Memorials have been designated to the Ann Tournear Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Ann Tournear, age 43

John O. Glenn, 83, died October 18, 2022, at his daughter’s home in Macksville, Kansas. He was born August 9, 1939, in Mounds, Oklahoma, the son of John Otis Glenn, Sr. and Opal Louise (O’Dell) Glenn.

On August 11, 1958, he married Carol “LaVon” Smith. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2019.

John moved from Oklahoma to Kansas in 1951 and has been a longtime resident of Ellinwood. He worked in the oil field his whole life starting in 1951 for Buckin Smith Drilling, then Sante Fe Pipe Supply, and then 10 years with Pipe Pullers Inc. The last 28 years he worked for Kaiser Francis Oil Company retiring in 1995. He then worked independently as a pumper until December of 2021.

He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Ellinwood.

He is survived by; four children, Kirk Glenn and wife Debbie of Sterling, Rena Mooney and husband Mike of Bushton, Ruth Kaiser and husband Jon of Ellinwood, and Crystal Glenn and husband Kris Weathers of Macksville; a sister, Marceline Johnson of Oklahoma City; and 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, LaVon Glenn, daughter, Michelle Bigger, a son, John O. Glenn, III, brothers, Ralph and George Glenn and sister, Betty Bird.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.

John Glenn, age 83

Fred R. Lovesee, 85, completed his Earthly journey Oct. 21, 2022, at his home in Larned.

He was born Jan. 6, 1937. in Joplin, Mo. He was the fifth child of eight born to Thomas and Frances (Birkner) Lovesee. He was raised in Miami, Okla. Fred was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and sisters.

After serving in the United States Air Force, Fred moved to Hoisington, where he met and married his wife of 60 years, Sharon (Novotny), on June 30, 1962.

Planting his roots, Fred became a lifelong area resident. He was an entrepreneur and founded many of the small-town pizza places in the Barton, Stafford, and Edwards County region. In 1985, Fred and his family moved to Kinsley, where he established Romano’s Pizza.

Fred is survived by his wife, Sharon Lovesee. Additional survivors include: four sons, Steve Lovesee, Kinsley, Doug Lovesee, Larned, Ron (Kim) Lovesee, Larned, and Joel (Sonya) Lovesee, Leon; nine grandchildren, Andrew, Kayla, Paisley, Canvas, Torrance, Taytum, Tinley, Sam, and Levi; two siblings, sister, Ruby Smith and brother Tom Lovesee, both of Miami, Okla.

He is also survived by two of his beloved dogs, Lil Bit and Frisky.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned with Pastor Chris Nord presiding.

A celebration of life will be at a later date at Ramono’s in Kinsley.

Nita Elsie (Peterson) Mohr of Great Bend, passed away on Oct. 21, 2022, at University of Kansas Health Systems – Great Bend. She was born on Oct. 22, 1943, at Great Bend, to Clarence Theodore and Jenny Elsie (Marsh) Peterson.

Nita, a lifetime resident of Great Bend, was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing for her family and others. She enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center, bowling, golfing, traveling, camping and fishing, and always looking for a bargain at garage sales. She loved and adored her chihuahuas.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; one son, Ronald Wayne (companion Brenda Worley); two granddaughters, Shelby Payne (Dane Walker) of Lubbock, Texas, and Calie (John) Payne of Boulder, Colo.; a son-in-law, John Payne of Joshua, Tex.; and one great-grandson, Nixon Walker.

Nita is preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda Lynn Payne; her twin sister, Rita Mae Roblyer; her brother, Clarence “Pete” Peterson; and her parents.

Warren Dean McCrary, 69, passed away October 20, 2022 in Larned.

He was born April 4, 1953 in Sacramento, California, the son of William Donald and Leona Arlene Fought McCrary.

A longtime area resident, he was a retired hotel clerk. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with his grandkids. He served in the United States Navy.

Survivors include: his mother, Leona McCrary, Hutchinson; two sons, Aaron (Benjamin Capp) McCrary, St. Louis, Missouri, Andrew (Shanda) McCrary, Larned; daughter, Katherine (Duane) Obermiller, Larned; two brother, William Daniel McCrary, Rhode Island, Wayne Dale McCrary, Hutchinson; nine grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Little One.

He was preceded in death by his father, and two brothers, Willard Daryl McCrary and Walter Donald McCrary.

Warren McCrary, age 69

Gladys Mae Brack, 90, passed away on October 20, 2022, at Cumbernauld Village, Winfield, Kan. She was born on May 10, 1932, on the family farm, outside of Albert, Kan., to Fred &amp; Anna (Hemken) Harders. On July 20, 1952, she married Billy Brack at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend, Kan. He passed on July 26, 2014.

Residing in Winfield since 2015, Gladys was a longtime resident of rural Albert, moving to Great Bend in 1997. Gladys took pride in being a farm wife and was very active in the day to day duties. A life time member of the Lutheran denomination, she was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran in rural Albert, was a former member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Great Bend, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield. Gladys was a committed church member who dedicated many years of service as a Sunday School teacher. She loved to crochet and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include four sons, Paul (Karen) Brack of Paola, Kan., Mark (Lisa) Brack of Albert, Kan., Charles (Tammy) Brack of Sedgwick, Kan., and Norman (Vickie) Brack of Beauford, Mo.; two daughters, Mary (Chris) Kellogg of Gallup, N. Mex., and Judy (Martin) Ray of Winfield; twenty-three grandchildren; and thirty-three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; six brothers, Alan, Ralph, Delmer, Robert, Martin, and Marion Harders; and a sister, Marge Murphy.

Mason David Roach, 28, passed away October 19, 2022, in rural Russell county, Kan. He was born February 9, 1994, to Rick Rathbun and Lisa Roach.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Mason was a batchman for Concrete Services. He was a Lego fanatic, enjoyed playing his music loud and strumming his guitar. He loved spending time with his family but especially fond of spending time with his precious daughter, Emberlynn.

Survivors include, his mother, Lisa Anderson of Great Bend; his fianceé, Emily DeLaurentis and daughter, Emberlynn Roach of the home; a brother, Garrett Rathbun and wife Maggie of Tyler, Tex.; two sisters, Allison Mietler and Jeff of Great Bend and Ashley Fronterhouse of Amarillo, Tex.; his bonus dad of many years, Rick Anderson of Abilene; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Rick Rathbun.

Shirley Ruth Leslie, 88, passed away Oct. 20, 2022, at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

She was born Dec. 21, 1933, in Larned, the daughter of Robert and Ruth Row Walker.

A Larned resident, Shirley worked at the Larned State Hospital in the Reimbursement Office. She was a member of Larned United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and D.A.R. She enjoyed volunteering at the UMW Budget Shop, traveling, golfing, fishing and reading.

On Aug. 12, 1972, she married Dean Leslie in Larned; he survives.

Other survivors include: daughters, Debra (Tom) Snyder, Larned, Patti (Don) Smithson, Arlington, Texas, Pam Almquist, Fort Worth, Texas; stepson, Kevin (Cathy Jo) Leslie, Rock River, Wyo.; stepdaughter, Mary (Kevin) Yurchak, Melbourne Beach, Flo., Brenda (Richard)Winn, Mexico, Mo.; two brothers, Robert (Bob) Walker and William (Bill) Walker, Larned; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Norman “Pete” Kramer, 67, passed away October 19, 2022, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kan. He was born November 25, 1954, at Oakland, Calif. to Bernard &amp; Norma (Bowman) Kramer. He married Jean A. Scheer August 14, 1976 at Garden City.

Coming from Garden City in 2015, Pete was a current Great Bend resident. He was a machinist for Simmons Pump &amp; Machinery. Pete was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed collecting coins and hot wheels, and hunting and fishing. He was an avid football and baseball fan. Pete especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include, his wife, Jean Kramer of the home; a son, Nathan Kramer and wife Barbara of Garden City; two daughters, Anna Kramer and Stacey Kramer (Milton Barnes) both of Garden City; a daughter in law, Radonda Kramer of Great Bend; a sister, Carol Tieben and husband Daryl of Dodge City; and fifteen grandchildren, Alyssia Garcia Kramer (David), Jayden Kramer, Janica Kramer, Anastacia Kramer, Michael Kramer, Julianna Kramer, Matthew Kramer, Mia Vera, Isaac Owens, Jaylene Campos, Brysen Owens, Destiny Kramer, Alexander Kramer, Maddison Kramer and Gabriel Kramer. Leland Clarence Pallister, 93, passed away October 17, 2022, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;He&nbsp;was born September 22, 1929, in Hutchinson, to Glenn C. Pallister and Minnie (Hauschild) Pallister.

Leland was a 1947 graduate of Nickerson High School, Nickerson, KS. &nbsp;He graduated from Hutchinson Community College (HCC), formerly Hutchinson Community Junior College, in 1949, and was a member of the HCC Blue Dragons basketball team that was the runner-up in the 1949 National Junior College Athletic Association National Basketball Tournament. &nbsp;

Leland was a farmer and rancher for over 50 years and drove a school bus for Nickerson-South Hutchinson USD309 for over 30 years. &nbsp;He attended Midland Community United Church of Christ, Sterling, KS, and Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

Leland married Betty Lou Collins. &nbsp;She died November 24, 1992. &nbsp;He then married Dorothy (Bray) Perez.

Leland is survived by: &nbsp;his wife, Dorothy Pallister of Hutchinson; children, Craig (Sue) Pallister of Hays, KS, and Pamela (Dwayne) Upton of Merriam, KS; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister-in-law, Barbara Pallister; stepsons, John (Jennifer) Perez of Pittsburg, KS, Jeff (LeeAnn) Perez of Parsons, KS, and Rod Perez of&nbsp;Arma, KS;&nbsp;seven&nbsp;step-grandchildren;&nbsp;eight&nbsp;step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: &nbsp;his parents; wife, Betty Lou Pallister; siblings, Lyle Pallister and&nbsp;Aurel&nbsp;Lea Pallister; grandson, Paul Upton; and one step-granddaughter.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary, with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons, KS. &nbsp;Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2022, and Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary.

Donnie W. High, age 77, of Topeka, went to be with his Lord and Savior, on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022, at Stormont Vail Hospital.&nbsp;

He was born the son of Charley Edward and Emily Mabel (Tharp) High on April 10, 1945, in Miller, Kan.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Donnie married Annie May on May 15, 1971, in Emporia. They shared 51 years of wonderful marriage. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and taking care of his lawn. You could find Donnie on his riding lawn mower, cutting grass at home and at work. He was a former member of First Bible Baptist Church in Great Bend, as well as South Knollwood Baptist Church. Donnie and his wife are current members of Topeka Bible Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include his beloved wife, Annie M. High; two sons, Daniel High, Timothy High and his wife Lynda; four grandchildren, Valla, Sam, Elvira, and Doran. His five siblings, Katie, Nita, Charles, Bertha, and Earlene also survive.&nbsp;

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Jessie, Geri, and Vernon.&nbsp;

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 21, 2022, from 5-7 p.m., at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home in Topeka.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Donnie High, age 77

Grady Palmer Bolding, Jr., 92, passed away on October 17, 2022, at Ellinwood District Hospital, in Ellinwood, Kan. He was born on August 13, 1930, in De Queen, Ark. to Grady and Eunice (Pittman) Bolding. On May 25, 1950, Grady married Charlotte “Chic” Matson in Smackover, Ark. They were married for over 60 years prior to her passing.

He spent his working career in the oil and gas industry. This career began in 1950 at the National Supply Company Store in Shreveport, La., moving up to store manager in 1953 in El Dorado, Ark. In 1955, Grady was employed with Tretolite Chemical Company in Magnolia, Ark., and starting in 1957, worked as a district manager for them in Great Bend, Kan. In 1967, he helped form Gordon Lab, Inc. and after they sold in 1980, Grady formed his own oil and gas producing company in 1981: Grady Bolding Corporation, which is still in operation today.

Grady was a member of the American Petroleum Institute and KIOGA, both for over 50 years, a member of the National Association for Corrosion Engineers – serving as chairman in the 1960s, and served on the board of directors for the Great Bend Petroleum Club. He was religious affiliated with the First Southern Baptist Church and the First Congregational Church, served as Chairman of the Barton County Council of Churches and was a volunteer teacher for both youth and adult Sunday school for over 40 years. In addition to these professional and religious groups, he served as a board member of the NAACP, on the board of directors for Farmer’s Bank and Trust, was a member of Kiwanis Club of Great Bend, served on scholarship committees, coached Great Bend Recreation baseball and football teams, served on the board for the Great Bend Country Club, and taught microeconomics classes at Barton Community College.

Survivors include three sons, Mike (Susie Lee) Bolding, of San. Francisco, Cali., Chris (Ursula) Bolding, of Jones, Okla., and Mark (Yan Zhu) Bolding of Houston, Tex.; a daughter, Cheryl (Lyle) Gunn of Great Bend, Kan.; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; ; wife, and two sisters, Maurine Swearingen and LaVerne Burton.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with the family receiving guests from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A private family graveside service will take place at Great Bend Cemetery on Friday, October 21, 2022. Grady Bolding, Jr, age 92

Terry Joe Kern, 83, passed away on Oct. 17, 2022, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. He was born on July 27, 1939, in Great Bend, to Leonard and Opal (Shea) Kern. On Oct. 10, 1959, he married Marie Heckens in Great Bend. She survives.

A lifetime resident of Great Bend, Terry owned Kern Floor Service for 51 years, as well as ran a taxi and delivery service with his brother, Denny. He was a former member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and frequently gave to the Dominican Sisters of Peace. Terry had other passions as well: he was a tech. inspector for the SRCA Dragstrip, operated Great Bend Raceway, remodeled his own properties, worked on racing engines to clear his mind, hosted large card parties with his wife, liked watching NASCAR races, and especially enjoyed watching his grandkids participate in sports and activities.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Pat Kern of Great Bend; two daughters, Loretta (Jim) Murphy and Lisa Mohr of Great Bend; seven grandchildren, Rex (Lacey) Kern, Jared (Shelby) Kern, Taylor Vasquez, Madison Murphy, Dalton Murphy, Kylee Mohr, Slade Mohr; and four great-grandchildren, Trenton, Kale, Jett, and Nova. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Denny Kern; son, Michael Kern; son-in-law, Wes Mohr; and grandson-in-law, Adrian Vasquez.

Terry Stieben, 83, passed away October 16, 2022, at Hays Medical Center. He was born April 29, 1939, at Fairbury, Neb. to Walter &amp; Elizabeth (Hughes) Stieben. He married Judith Farr September 22, 1962, at Great Bend.

A longtime Great Bend resident, Terry was a letter carrier for USPS, and formerly worked as a printer for the Great Bend Globe newspaper and Miller Printers. Terry was a Boys Town graduate and a retired Sergeant Major for the United States Army Reserve. He was a passionate KU basketball fan.

Survivors include, his wife of 60 years, Judith Stieben; a daughter, Lorrie D. Campbell and husband Billy of Albuquerque, NM; and a niece, Kenda O’Mara of Emporia. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Kenneth Stieben; a half-brother, Jamie Stieben; and a half-sister, Sandra Stieben Sponsal.

Ann Elizabeth Reeves, 67, passed away October 15, 2022, at her home in Great Bend. She was born November 10, 1954, in Ellinwood, to Loren and Jeanine (Rickert) Gowdy. She married Gary Reeves on December 4, 1971, in Ellinwood.

A longtime area resident, Ann was the owner of Ms. Ann's Daycare. She was very passionate about her business and the children she watched. Ann enjoyed working on puzzles, flower gardening and cooking. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include, her husband, Gary Reeves of the home; two daughters, Marcy Reeves and fiancé Scottie Schmidt and Tracy Reeves all of Great Bend; her mother, Jeanine Gowdy of Ellinwood; a brother, Danny Gowdy and wife Sue of Great Bend; a sister, Cindy Berscheidt of Great Bend; four grandchildren, Tyler Reeves (Aeriana Trimmer), Trinity Reeves, Jourdel Reeves and JaLeea Reeves; and two great grandchildren, Everhett Reeves and Hazelyn Trimmer. She was preceded in death by her father, Loren Gowdy; and a son, Eric Reeves.

Ann Reeves, age 67

Elmer J. “Kirk” Kirkpatrick, 86, died Oct. 15, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 20, 1935, in Bella Vista, Ark., the son of John W. and Olive J. (Williams) Kirkpatrick. He graduated in 1953 from Chanute High School, Chanute, and immediately enlisted in the Air Force. Thus began his lifelong military career.

On Dec. 26, 1958, he married Marilyn Nordstrom in Bushton. To them were born a son, Timothy, and a daughter, Janet.

Kirk was stationed in many places during his career, including Thailand, the Philippines, Germany; his last assignment being Grand Forks, N.D. He served in many capacities as a medic, including as an independent duty medical technician, and as a chief hospital administrator for enlisted staff. Excellence in his field, numerous command awards and recognitions helped him attain the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. They were active throughout in the Chapel programs. He also continued his education during this time and received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

After 30 years with the Air Force, he retired and they moved to Bushton. Here he was active in the First United Methodist Church, and served many years as a city councilman. Kirk was an avid hunter and fisherman, and had a great knowledge of and was active with the Redwing Collector’s Society. He and Marilyn continued to enjoy traveling, and he especially treasured time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Above all his accomplishments was his faith in Jesus Christ, which he recently reconfirmed in the presence of his family.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marilyn Kirkpatrick of the home; daughter, Janet Dokken and husband Joseph of Lake Nebagamon, Wisc.; three grandchildren, Aaron Dokken and wife Katie, Lauren Burg and husband Matthew, and Timothy Dokken; and five great-granddaughters, Gwenyvere, Verity, and Myrielle Dokken, and Eleanor and Rainy Burg; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Timothy A. Kirkpatrick, four brothers, Earl, Roy, Cecil, and Carl Kirkpatrick; and two sisters, Dorothy Dillow and Gladys Jane Kirkpatrick.

Visitation will be noon to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the funeral home. Family will greet friends Thursday, prior to the service, beginning at 1 p.m. at the church.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, at the United Methodist Church, Bushton, with Pastor Diana Webster presiding. Military honors will be performed by the McConnell Air Force Honor Guard.

 </figure>Elmer J. “Kirk” Kirkpatrick, 86, died Oct. 15, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 20, 1935, in Bella Vista, Ark., the son of John W. and Olive J. (Williams) Kirkpatrick. He graduated in 1953 from Chanute High School, Chanute, and immediately enlisted in the Air Force. Thus began his lifelong military career.On Dec. 26, 1958, he married Marilyn Nordstrom in Bushton. To them were born a son, Timothy, and a daughter, Janet.Kirk was stationed in many places during his career, including Thailand, the Philippines, Germany; his last assignment being Grand Forks, N.D. He served in many capacities as a medic, including as an independent duty medical technician, and as a chief hospital administrator for enlisted staff. Excellence in his field, numerous command awards and recognitions helped him attain the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. They were active throughout in the Chapel programs. He also continued his education during this time and received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.After 30 years with the Air Force, he retired and they moved to Bushton. Here he was active in the First United Methodist Church, and served many years as a city councilman. Kirk was an avid hunter and fisherman, and had a great knowledge of and was active with the Redwing Collector’s Society. He and Marilyn continued to enjoy traveling, and he especially treasured time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elmer 'Kirk' Kirkpatrick, age 86

Robert Eugene Groff, 65, died October 15, 2022, at Russell Regional Hospital, Russell, Kansas. He was born November 9, 1956, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Albert and Dolores (Dawson) Groff.

Robert grew up in Hays, Kansas, and worked for his father hauling trash and then later for Ideal Refuge with Hammie and Billy Rupp. He often remarked on how he loved his trash truck days and was proud of the work he did. He later worked as a pumper for his father-in-law, Gerald Michaelis Oil.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Russell. Robert was an avid train enthusiast, traveling to different locations to watch the trains, and was a member of the Golden Belt Model Railroad Association.

He is survived by his spouse of twenty years, Tonya Michaelis of the home; sons, Alan Groff of Wichita, and Daniel (Kiley) Groff of Vici, Oklahoma; brothers, Jamie (Linda) Groff of Stockton, Gary Groff of Hays, and Ronnie (Danielle) Groff of La Crosse; sisters, Alberta (Clair) Rogers of Liebenthal, Regina (Donald) Fahl of Portland, Oregon, and Becky Gerhardt of Hays; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Groff, mother, Dolores Wood, brother, Vic Groff, sister, Cathy Gilbert, and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Michaelis.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert Groff, age 65

Phyllis Marie Deckert, 101, Manhattan, died Oct. 15, 2022, at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community. She was born March 7, 1921, the second of four daughters to Lucius Higley and Dorothy Campbell at Chase. Her parents, her husband Leslie, sisters Pauline, Rosalie, and Dory, granddaughter Rebecca, daughter-in-law Nancy preceded her in death. She was baptized a Presbyterian in Chase. After the family’s move to a farm north of Pawnee Rock, she and her sisters cleaned the Bergthal Mennonite Church and played hide and seek among the monuments of the cemetery. She was a quiet Christian who helped with church dinners and attended women’s church activities.

Phyllis married Leslie R. Deckert on Aug. 12, 1941, and they began life together on a small farm west of Pawnee Rock in Pawnee County. After 40 years on the farm, they retired to Larned, where Leslie passed away in 2004. Phyllis began residency in Manhattan in December 2017. Daughter Cora Colleen Smith and husband Larry of Wichita and son Andrew and wife Linda of Manhattan in addition to four grandchildren (Alysun and husband Mike of Seattle; Ryun and wife Angie of Kirkwood, Mo.; Scott and wife Emily of Lenexa; and Matt and Jodie of Owatonna, Minn.) and six grandchildren (Toby and Evie of Kirkwood, Charlotte and Clara of Lenexa, Jaycie and Tyler of Owattonna) survive Phyllis.

Phyllis’ high school graduation portrait showed a young woman unafraid of venturing into a rapidly changing world. Her pony rides to visit neighbors as a young girl were replaced by airplane travel to her granddaughter’s wedding in Seattle; crank telephones and party lines became cell phones; information transmitted by telegram, telephone, and the radio yielded to the TV and her computer; and living with the theory that kerosene was a cure- all gave way to penicillin, vaccines and joint replacements. With a shy smile, she stood at attention when airport security cautiously circled her with a wand because her knee replacements set off the alarms. With a twinkle in her eye of a 90-year-old, she confessed she had traveled 90 mph in her bright candy-apple red VW Beetle to visit her daughter in Wichita.

Phyllis was a woman of many talents. She was known for her singing voice at the Pawnee Rock Methodist Church and Easter Messiah presentations in Larned. Many parents were the recipients of hand knit sweaters and booties for their newborns. She exhibited knitting and wheat weaving projects, cakes, china painting, and cookie jars at the Pawnee County Fair and Kansas State Fair where she received more than 100 colorful ribbons. A disqualification occurred when the judge discovered she had decorated an empty cake pan turned upside down. A child of the Great Depression, Phyllis Deckert’s scheme of things did not include wasting a good cake.

Graveside services in the Pawnee Rock cemetery will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2022, with Larry Fry presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.

Molly Anne Brenner, age 24, passed away Friday afternoon, October 14,
 2022, at the University of Colorado Health Aurora Campus, Aurora, 
Colorado.

She was born March 29, 1998, at Liberal, Kansas, the daughter of 
Mitch and Cindy (Cordes) Brenner.&nbsp; As a young girl, she attended school 
in Meade, graduating from Meade High School in 2016.&nbsp; During her school 
years, Molly was involved in competitive dance&nbsp;and tumbling.&nbsp; She was 
also an active participant in several other activities including a 
member of the Meade High School golf&nbsp;team, Kayettes and cheerleading.&nbsp; 
After her graduation, she attended the Kansas School of the Blind, 
graduating in 2018.

She was a member of Saint John Lutheran Church, LYF, and Our Diamond 
Miss pageant system.&nbsp; She enjoyed shopping--always the fashionista, 
going to the lake and swimming, desserts, chocolate in particular, and 
spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her parents, Mitch and Cindy Brenner of Meade, 
Kansas; a brother, Mason Brenner of Meade; her maternal grandmother, 
Carol Cordes of Meade; her paternal grandmother, Kathleen Brenner of 
Hays, Kansas; her 'big sisters' Megan and Ashley and several aunts, 
uncles, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Larry Cordes; 
paternal grandfathers, Kent Amerine and Larry Brenner; and an uncle, 
Matt Cordes.

A celebration of Molly’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, 
October 22, 2022, at the Meade High School Auditorium. Friends may call 
from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2022, at 
Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade with the family present to receive

April Ann Ulrich, 54, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, October 14,
 2022, at the Hays Medical Center Emergency Room in Hays, Kansas. April 
gained her heavenly wings surrounded by her family, after a courageous 
battle with Pancreatic cancer.&nbsp;

April was born on April 6, 1968, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of
 Richard Wayne and Mary Ann (Deines) Hogan.&nbsp; She grew up in Russell, 
Kansas, and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1986.&nbsp; 
After high school, she graduated from Ft. Hays State University with a 
bachelor’s degree in business.&nbsp; She met, fell in love and was united in 
marriage to Wayne Doug Ulrich Jr. on August 24, 2001, in Russell, 
Kansas.&nbsp; She worked for many years as a legal assistant for the Mark 
Blehm Law Office in Russell.&nbsp; She was a longtime member of St. John 
Lutheran Church in Russell.&nbsp; She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, 
animals, puzzles and watching her daughter Josalyn compete in rodeos.&nbsp; 
Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and especially 
enjoyed being grandma to her six grandchildren. She always had a 
welcoming smile, hugs and warm food to any friends that her daughters 
brought home. She was “Mama Ape” to many.&nbsp;

Surviving family include her husband Doug of the home; daughters 
Brittney Mayberry (Jason) of Hays, Kansas, Brooklyn Harders (Zach) of 
Russell, Kansas and Josalyn Ulrich (Blade Overturf) of Russell, Kansas;
