Donations to the Kansas Livestock Foundation (KLF) have exceeded over $1.5 million. For relief efforts to farmers and ranchers impacted by the December 15th wildfire and severe storms across the state.

According to the Kansas Livestock Association (KLA) weekly newsletter approximately 1,231 individuals and companies have contributed to the KLF relief fund. Matt Teagarden, Chief Executive Officer with KLA says that the “KLF has a proven process to equitably distribute funds collected, with every dollar donated going to those Kansas producers impacted by the recent weather event”. Applicants do not have to be KLA members.

Those interested in applying to receive funds can access the fillable form on-line at https://www.kla.org/resources/wildfire-relief-resources or copy the form and mail it to Kansas Livestock Foundation, 6031 S.W. 37th Street, Topeka, KS 66614

KLF was established in 1983 to operate solely and exclusively for charitable, scientific and educational purposes that advance the interests of the Kansas livestock industry.

Applications must be submitted in full by January 31, 2022. This application also can be found on www.kla.org. Landowners incurring fence replacement costs are encouraged to file separately from tenants. For questions, call the KLA Office (785) 273-5115.

A new year is a time that many of us make resolutions about health – how to be more active, eat better, and give ourselves some time to heal and grow.

The 4—H pledges notes our Head – making good decisions, our Heart – showing loyalty and compassion, our Hands – with a focus on service to others, and our Health for our clubs, community, country, and world.

4-H has several great resources for youth to think about their health! One of these is the Health and Wellness Project that 4-H members can enroll in to explore health, exercise, and recreation as vital parts of daily life. (Check out this project page at https://bookstore.ksre.ksu.edu/pubs/4H1108.pdf).

Within the Health and Wellness project, 4-H members can explore bicycling, first aid, and keeping fit! A great resource to go with this is the “Take A Hike” Challenge in the Kansas Clover Classroom. This is a fun resource that can be downloaded for free at https://www.kansas4-h.org/resources/leader-resources/cloverclassroom/index.html. Other resources in this section encourage youth and their families to get outside and explore such as sportfishing, geology collecting, and tracking wildlife!

Youth can learn about healthy eating in the Foods and Nutrition project. You will usually see pies, cakes, and cookies on display at the fair because a salad or casserole can’t be displayed! 4-H members are learning how to measure, read ingredients, and understand the role of food in many aspects of our lives.

Horticulture provides a project for youth and their families to explore growing fruits, vegetables, and flowers and includes lots of physical activity. All of the 4-H animal projects from Pets to Poultry teach caring for and training an animal which is good for mental and emotional health as well.

Health is an important part of our Head, Heart, Hands, and Health so check out some resources or give me a call to discuss how 4-H can help your youth improve their health and well-being!

Since 2018, Barton County has gone to an access control entrance system for most
facilities. The security measure requires new or advanced hardware to the main
entrances of buildings. 

The Cottonwood Extension District recently moved out of
the Baker Avenue building, shared with the county’s juvenile services program.
Taking over the building space, the county will install five more
access-control doors. 

Barton County Information Technology Director Dereck
Hollingshead was approved for access-control hardware along with more interior
security cameras with a new server. 
"Phil (Hathcock) has access to the landfill cameras," said Hollingshead. "Road and Bridge monitors some cameras. There are courthouse cameras. Levi (Morris) has various cameras in his offices. We grant access based off need." 
Nex-Tech Security submitted the only bid for the wireless door and alarm system
of $9,004. The server and cameras cost $13,705 and will also be provided by
Nex-Tech Security.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

If you were in a situation where you were unable to express your wishes, what kind of care would you want at the end of your life? Advance directives are legal documents that give family, friends, and health care providers information about your end of life wishes. Having advance directives in place can help avoid confusion and stress in an emergency.

· durable power of attorney for health care, · living will, and · pre-hospital Do Not Resuscitate.

In Kansas, an attorney is not needed to complete these documents but you must have witnesses sign them. Advance directives can be a difficult topic to both contemplate and discuss. Here are some steps to help.

· Gain more understanding of each option from your physician, health care providers, financial providers or your attorney.

· Discuss your personal preferences with family, friends or a religious advisor. At any point, you can change your preferences, and revise your documents.

· If this is difficult for you to bring up with your loved ones here are a few ideas to try.

o You can write a letter expressing your desire to discuss this topic. o Show them copies of the forms, emphasizing the importance of the subject to you. o If you are really uncomfortable, you can hire an attorney to facilitate the discussion. o Or ask a trusted friend to assist with the discussion.

· Once the forms are completed, make copies, hand them out to family, trusted friends, hospital, and physician. Finally store extra copies in your important files, purse, and glove box of your car.

UNRUH: Advance directives

The connection between the mind and body is strong, so an overall positive attitude – including an upbeat outlook on life – can affect overall happiness, health, and well-being. Similar to good health practices such as eating well and getting plenty of exercise, a positive attitude should be a habit that starts early in life.

A positive attitude can impact mental health and physical functioning, including the ability to fight disease and infection. Attitude can also affect relationships, social networks, and help make success in life more likely. The bottom line: being more positive across the lifespan causes less stress and enables people to live healthier, happy lives.

Being able to accept and adapt to change plays an important role in having a positive attitude, especially as life is filled with ups and downs. This point hit home with my husband John, and me, a couple of years ago when John hit a patch of black ice on his bicycle, falling and fracturing his hip. Confined to a lift chair for six weeks while being non weight bearing, could have been difficult to overcome. I’m convinced that his motivation to follow the doctor’s orders, and the great support of neighbors and family, made a huge difference in his healing. Almost four months to the day of his accident, he was back riding a bike which put a smile on his face.

Our Adult Development and Aging Specialist introduced the “Keys to Embracing Aging” materials to Extension educators across Kansas in 2016. The fact sheet titled; “Positive Attitude” encourages people to do something they love every day. It could be something like playing the piano or going for a walk. Embracing a hobby or activity provides a sense of purpose in life because it is something that you can create and nurture.

Everyone has a bad day once in a while, but in general, a positive attitude and happy outlook can help pull you through life’s challenges. Having an upbeat and proactive outlook on life over time can also contribute to better health and optimal aging, including longevity.

KRUG: Adopting a positive attitude

Water is an essential nutrient for people and animals alike. And while water consumption often increases on hot days, it is also an important nutrient in the winter, said the experts at the Kansas State University Beef Cattle Institute on a recent&nbsp;<a href="https://ksubci.org/2022/01/14/prep-for-calving-season-water-in-the-winter-colostrum-management-supplementing-with-fat/" target="_blank"></a><a href="https://ksubci.org/2022/01/14/prep-for-calving-season-water-in-the-winter-colostrum-management-supplementing-with-fat/" target="_blank">Cattle Chat</a>&nbsp;podcast. &nbsp;&nbsp;

“A cow typically drinks a gallon and a half of water per 100 pounds in the summer, but in the winter that will drop to a half gallon to three-quarters of a gallon per 100 pounds,” veterinarian Brad White said. “Still, she is drinking water and producers need to manage the water supply in the winter.” &nbsp;&nbsp;

Veterinarian Bob Larson added that easy access to water is crucial.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“The ground around water sources can get muddy with the changing weather making it difficult for the cattle to come up and get access to the water,” he said. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Veterinarian Brian Lubbers added: “In the winter, producers need to make sure the water sources aren’t frozen.” &nbsp;&nbsp;

Larson agreed and said cattle cannot be without water very long without having health challenges. “Water is the most important nutrient so in a winter event such as a snow and ice storm producers need to have a plan on how they are going to get water to the cattle,” he said. &nbsp;&nbsp;

“Producers who use electricity to keep the cattle waterers open need to have a backup generator for the water pumps in a power outage.” &nbsp;&nbsp;

Nutritionist Phillip Lancaster said producers need to routinely check for electrical shorts in the tanks.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“Sometimes there will be a short that will give the cattle a bit of a shock when they drink and they will stop drinking,” he said. “If the cattle aren’t drinking, they will often stop eating or reduce the amount of feed they consume, so that is something to watch for.” &nbsp;&nbsp;

For producers who routinely take water to the cattle out on pasture, the experts stressed the importance of making sure the transport tanks -- as well as the pumps and hoses – were not used for ag chemicals.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“Avoid hauling water in a tank that had herbicides or insecticides in it as well as making sure the pumps and hoses weren’t used for the delivery of any chemicals,” Larson said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

White added: “Depending on what chemicals were used, a small amount can cause severe side effects.” &nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;“When cows have toxicology problems,” Larson said, “they aren’t just sick; a lot of times they are dead.” &nbsp;&nbsp;

A series of six K-State Soybean Production Schools will be offered in late January and early February to provide in-depth training targeted for soybean producers and key-stakeholders. The schools will be sponsored by the Kansas Soybean Commission, and conducted by K-State Research &amp; Extension.

CAMPBELL: K-State Soybean Schools scheduled for January, February

Eating hearty comfort foods is another way to stay warm during these colder months. Foods, like soups, pastas and stews are often hotter and heavier, which naturally warm people. But they’re also often loaded with simple carbohydrates, excess sodium and fatty ingredients.

A one-cup serving of a popular brand of loaded baked potato soup has 250 calories, 15 grams of total fat, 10 grams of saturated fat, and 850 milligrams of sodium. New England clam chowder can contain up to 940 calories, 65 grams of total fat, and 34 grams of saturated fat per one-cup serving. It is better to choose tomato-based or broth-based soups, like vegetable or minestrone. Enjoy soup as an appetizer or with a salad or a whole-wheat roll. Choose low-sodium canned soup, because regular soup usually contains a lot of salt and preservatives. 

The biggest worry of consuming too much salt and sodium is high blood pressure. High blood pressure is the leading cause of early death in women. It’s also a leading cause of early death for men, second only to smoking. Healthy blood pressure numbers are less than 120 for the top number, and less than 80 on the bottom. 

One of the best ways to lower high blood pressure is to reduce the salt (or sodium) that you eat. That means doing more than putting away the salt shaker. About three-fourths of the sodium in the U.S. diet is from processed and restaurant foods.

The only way to know how much sodium is in a packaged food is to read the Nutrition Facts on the back label. Also, become aware of the terms that you may see on the front label. Below is the definition of what each claim means:

· Sodium Free – Less than 5 mg sodium per serving.

· Very low in sodium – No more than 35 mg sodium per serving.

· Low in sodium – No more than 140 mg sodium per serving.

· Unsalted – No salt was added during processing.

· Light in sodium – Half or less of the sodium in the original product.

· Reduced sodium – One-fourth or less of the sodium in the original product.

· Healthy – Less than 480 mg sodium for an individual food, or 600 mg sodium for a meal (such as a frozen dinner).

UNRUH: Soup made healthy — reduce the sodium

What gas is odorless, colorless, and tasteless, but is cited as the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers? If you guessed radon you are absolutely right. January is noted as Radon Action Awareness Month so it is the perfect time to share up-to-date information on this important topic.

Radon surveys show that 6 percent of homes in the U.S. have average concentrations above the recommended maximum level. However, the Kansas survey demonstrated that one in four homes were high. This information is provided by Bruce Snead, K-State Research and Extension residential energy specialist.

So how does this cancer causing gas enter a house? The most common way is it can seep from the soil beneath the foundation through cracks or joints. Another factor, soil porosity, under and around the basement or foundation, also affects the radon levels in homes and public buildings.

Detection of radon is relatively simple. We recommend purchasing a short term radon detection kit. We have these available at both of our Cottonwood District offices, (Great Bend and Hays). The kits cost $6.50 and we have a good supply available for purchase. Radon tests may also be found at hardware stores and on the Internet, usually for $25 or less.

Testing is important, because it is the only way to tell how much of the gas is present. We advise people to test in the lowest level where they spend time, such as

a bedroom, living or family room. Avoid testing in a kitchen or bathroom, since the higher humidity in those areas can alter the test results. The testing device needs to be at least 20 inches above the floor and be left in place for two to five days. The goal is to measure the potential for elevated concentrations that come from the soil beneath the home’s foundation.

If the initial test result is 4 pico curies per liter of air or higher, a follow-up test is recommended. If you find that you need to contact a contractor to help mitigate radon, give me a call. I have an up to date list of certified mitigation technicians and laboratories providing services in Kansas. Certification through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for radon professionals was required starting in July 2011.

In Kansas, since July 1, 2009, residential real estate contracts must contain a specific paragraph recommending radon testing in real estate transactions and disclosure of test results. There are, however, currently no laws requiring such tests or mitigation of high levels of radon.

Consider testing your home soon. The cost of the test kit is a small price to pay for the peace of mind knowing the radon level in your home.

KRUG: Time to test for radon

Calfhood implants will be just one of the topics for the 2022 Kansas State University Winter Ranch Management Seminar Series. Hosted by four areas across the state of Kansas, the meetings will feature presentations and comments by extension educators to enhance management strategies employed by cow-calf producers. &nbsp;

The meetings will also feature a popular “town hall” style question-and-answer session between Kansas cattle producers and extension specialists. “The series has a history of being a successful stretch of meetings, which are hosted throughout the state of Kansas,” says Dale Blasi, K-State extension specialist. &nbsp;

Topics may slightly vary per location, with options including bull management considerations, historical cattle feeding trends and beef cattle implant strategies. The sessions will focus on enhancing profit in beef production. All four sessions will conclude with the town hall session. &nbsp;

State, district, and local extension staff, will take part in the series to help answer producers’ questions. “The Winter Ranch Management series provides another great opportunity for state and local specialists to take our expertise out in the country for a series of impactful meetings,” Blasi adds. “Our extension team has a breadth of experience in beef cattle management, reproduction, genetics, animal health and nutrition. We’re here to help solve and prevent production problems with reliable information.”&nbsp;

K-State Research and Extension will host the 19th annual Cover Your Acres Winter Conference for crop producers and consultants on January 18 and 19. The conference will take place in the traditional in-person format in Oberlin, Kansas.

Cover Your Acres is a producer-driven meeting focused on new ideas and research-based updates in crop production in northwest Kansas and the Central High Plains region.

The conference, which typically draws more than 400 attendees from Kansas and other states, highlights the latest technology, methods, and conservation practices to improve crop production in the region. CAMPBELL: Cover Your Acres Winter Conference to be held in person

The Cottonwood Extension District hosted a Great Bend Chamber Coffee and Open House last week to share our new space! Despite the frigid temperatures, we had a great group in attendance and appreciate the support of the community.

We are still unpacking and sorting things. If you have every moved your home, imagine if 4 different families had lived there and all left things behind – some important, some not!

In the midst of moving and sorting, this is a busy time of year for 4-H. We have 4-H Club Day coming up in February and this provides an opportunity for youth to practice their communication skills in a variety of formats and, those that receive top ratings, are eligible to compete at the 7-county Regional Club Day that will be held in early March.

It doesn’t seem possible but we are making plans and working through schedules for the county fair in July! Additionally, we have 4-H youth who have opportunities to participate in 4-H Ambassador Training and Citizenship In Action in the next two months. For our livestock producers, K-State puts on two Junior Producer Days each year with this year’s focus on beef and sheep. I am offering a Saturday Session each month for 4-H families to dive into different areas of their projects such as record keeping and communication skills.

Our 4-H members are selecting or working with their animal projects, practicing recipes and kitchen skills, planning their gardens, sorting through woodworking plans and materials, and beginning to work on textile and fiber arts patterns and materials. In addition, 4-H members are attending meetings and working together to learn parliamentary procedure, practice communication skills, and work on community service projects.

BERAN: New year, new space

The start of the new year may be the best time to get prepared so you are not caught off guard when disaster strikes. There are many resources available to help everyone get started, so I will share the basics and then provide links to other helpful information.

Get Financially Prepared: Take Steps Ahead of Disaster compiled by K-State’s Family Resource Management Program Focus Team is an excellent resource that you can download or stop by the Extension Office and get a copy. https://bookstore.ksre.ksu.edu/pubs/MF3055.pdf To be prepared, you should have a household inventory, check your insurance coverage, and prepare a grab-and-go box.

Preparing a household inventory will take time but will definitely be worth it. A written inventory of your belongings, backed up by a video of each room in your home, can help prove what your lost and what was damaged. https://extension.msstate.edu/sites/default/files/publications/publications/p0633.pdf

This inventory is formatted to allow you to enter pertinent information regarding the property you own. For example, the following sheets contain columns to identify the purchase date, original purchase price, current value, and replacement value. Keeping original receipts is beneficial (and a good practice for larger purchases) as they will help provide this information.

If you have to leave your home in an emergency, your financial records may be the last thing you would think to grab. Have a copy of all your important paper work stored in a place away from your home or place of business. There are many resources available to help everyone get started, so I will share the basics and then provide links to other helpful information.Get Financially Prepared: Take Steps Ahead of Disaster compiled by K-State’s Family Resource Management Program Focus Team is an excellent resource that you can download or stop by the Extension Office and get a copy. https://bookstore.ksre.ksu.edu/pubs/MF3055.pdf To be prepared, you should have a household inventory, check your insurance coverage, and prepare a grab-and-go box.Preparing a household inventory will take time but will definitely be worth it. For example, the following sheets contain columns to identify the purchase date, original purchase price, current value, and replacement value. With fertilizer prices continuing to be a significant input cost and the availability issues, it is increasingly important for agriculture producers to properly manage their inputs.

To address the topic of nutrient management, K-State Research and Extension, has scheduled four regional programs.

CAMPBELL: Soil fertility meetings

The month of January has been declared Kansas Radon Action Month by Governor Laura Kelly. Radon is an odorless and invisible gas that can cause lung cancer. It is found in soil and can be detected inside buildings.&nbsp;

You can purchase a radon testing kit to find out if you have high levels of radon in your home. The Cottonwood Extension District in Great Bend sells the kits at "cost" for $6.50. They are also usually stocked in hardware stores. Cottonwood District Director Donna Krug explained how to use one of the kits.&nbsp;

“We do really recommend that if it’s been a while since you’ve tested, for you to test the lowest level where you spend time, a basement or a first floor,” Krug said. “It is a really good time because your houses are closed up right now, and that’s how we like to do it.”&nbsp;

Exposure to radon causes no immediate symptoms and often goes unrecognized until serious health complications arise. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that indoor radon contributes to 21,000 lung cancer deaths in the U.S. each year.&nbsp;

If high levels of radon are discovered in your home, it can usually be fixed by a certified radon contractor. Krug describes how that works.&nbsp;

“They have to drill a hole in the basement floor, and then they put a PVC pipe in there and it’s kind of like a soil vacuum cleaner,” Krug said. It’s going to have a low-wattage fan, and it’s going to pull the air that’s underneath the house out and away from the house. That will have the radon in it because radon is in the soil.”&nbsp;

January is a good time to check radon levels 

I’m excited for each new year even though as I age, they seem to be going faster and faster! A new year is the perfect time to consider signing up for a class and learn something new. Extension is known for providing lifelong learning opportunities in our community.

In our recent move to new office location in Great Bend, I found some treasures. Files contained photos and news clippings of furniture refinishing workshops, class rosters from parenting classes and pictures of completed projects in our 4-H sewing classes. Many of 4-H’ers have grown up and have children of their own ready to join us in 2022!

I have a couple of neat learning opportunities just around the corner so read on for the workshop details.

A couple of years ago my husband and I started experimenting with fermenting vegetables in a wide mouth canning jar. Now it has become a regular occurrence to make a couple of quarts of sauerkraut or Kimchi on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Fermented foods are easy to make and the health benefits of including a small serving daily is in the news. If you would like to learn how to make sauerkraut in a wide mouth canning jar, consider signing up for the workshop I am leading on Tuesday, February 8th from 6-9 PM. Your $25 registration includes: quart jar and lid, one way valve, weight, and ingredients for sauerkraut. Class size is limited, so call the Extension office at (620)793-1910 to sign up. I’ll keep you posted on a date to offer a similar evening class in the Hays community in March.

Another workshop that I love to teach is the Stay Strong, Stay Healthy, workshop. This class meets every Tuesday and Thursday, from 10 – 11 AM, for 8 weeks beginning February 15th and ending April 7th. Stay Strong, Stay Healthy emphasizes strength, flexibility and balance for the older adults who register. During each session, a prescribed set of 8 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level, so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health. This is my eighth year to teach this workshop at our Great Bend Activity Center which is the perfect setting. The cost to register is $20 and classes fill up fast, so call our office to sign up. At the time of your registration, I will set up an appointment to complete a short pre-assessment prior to the first class.

Great Bend Chamber coffee hour & ribbon cutting (1/6)

On farms large and small across the state of Kansas, the number of women involved in decision making on farms and ranches is growing. Against that backdrop and especially in view of the ups and downs of the farm economy, Kansas State University and the Cottonwood Extension District will host two sites for the series of workshops focused on helping women sharpen their risk management skills.

The K-State Research and Extension, Cottonwood District, program will run as a series, so each evening session builds on material from the previous sessions. Participants register at a cost of $50 for the entire series. The fee covers all meals and program materials.

The sessions, all on Wednesdays, are scheduled on January 12, January 19, January 26 and February 2, with an optional session on February 23, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm and will be held in Hays, at the Extension Office meeting room, 601 Main Street and in Great Bend at American Ag Credit, 5634 10th Street. The sessions will feature a combination of broadcasted keynote speakers as well as local speakers.

The registration deadline has been extended to Friday, January 7 on-line at www.agmanager.info under “events” or contact the Hays office 785-628-9430 or Great Bend 620-793-1910.

Topics will include Enterprise Budgets (determining cost of production), Crop Insurance, Stress and Resiliency, Crop Marketing, Family Communication, Farm Bill programs and Cow/Calf enterprise budget.

More than 25,500 women are decision makers on Kansas farms. They farm more than 14 million acres, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Census of Agriculture. Overall, in 2017, 36% of all agricultural producers across the country were women, up from 31.5% in 2012. Fifty-six percent of farms had at least one female decision maker.

“Women in agriculture will be specifically targeted for these workshops,” said Stacy Campbell and Alicia Boor, Crop and Livestock Agents with the Cottonwood District and K-State Research and Extension. “They tend to be an underserved demographic, but many times are involved or solely making the risk management tasks for the operation. By teaching them the necessary skills for helping to complete enterprise budgets, making crop insurance decisions, helping to relieve farm family stress, along with understanding the farm bill programs.”

The program is supported by the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture through North-Central Extension Risk Management Education. Don’t delay registration deadline has been extended to January 7th at www.agmanager.info under “events”.

Anaplasmosis is a disease caused by bacteria affecting red blood cells in ruminants including cattle. While livestock of all ages can be infected with the illness, it is rarely fatal to the young, but quite serious in adult animals. It can cause abortions, weakness, rapid weight loss, and even death. Anaplasmosis is contracted by either biting horse flies or ticks as well as via dehorning, needles, as well as surgical or tattoo instruments if the equipment is not properly cleaned after each use. The disease is on the rise and found throughout Kansas, including Barton and Ellis counties. Education and proper practices are key to keeping your cattle healthy.

On Jan. 20, 2022 at noon, the Cottonwood Extension District will host an Anaplasmosis and Safe Vaccine Handling program at the Hays Extension office, 601 Main St. Dr. Gregg Hanzlicek, DVM from KSU College of Veterinary Medicine will discuss what you need to know about Anaplasmosis and how to prevent it in your heard. I will talk about vaccines and how to safely handle and administer to your livestock. Please RSVP to 785-628-9430 for a meal count and to ensure enough materials. The meal is being provided by the Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostics Laboratory.

The Barton County Treasurer is responsible for collecting the taxes that pay for county services.&nbsp;Jim Jordan has served as the Treasurer for over five years.&nbsp;Other county officials determine how much an individual will actually pay in taxes and where those taxes will be spent.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jordan&nbsp;was a guest recently on 1590 KVGB and 95.5 FM's County Edition with Steve Webster. Using percentages paid by taxpayers in Great Bend,&nbsp;he&nbsp;explained where the money goes once it is collected.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“So&nbsp;the breakdown is 29.6% goes to Barton County;&nbsp;.5% goes to Cottonwood Extension District;&nbsp;18% goes to Barton Community College;&nbsp;24.1% goes to the City of Great Bend;&nbsp;4.8 percent&nbsp;goes to USD 428, the Rec Commission,&nbsp;22.3% goes to&nbsp;the&nbsp;USD 428, the school district;&nbsp;.8 percent goes to the State of Kansas.”&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
