Progress continues on the Ninja Course and rock-climbing wall at the Great Bend Activity Center. The installation is the start of a trio of playground installations that will be occurring in Great Bend.

Digging holes to secure the equipment, the Hellas Construction crew found old building footings from the previous Morrison Elementary School.

Great Bend Rec Executive Director Chris Umphres said Hellas will be moving quickly to finish the Ninja Course and the playground additions at the Sports Complex and Veterans Memorial Park.

"When Hellas has a standstill, the playground equipment came for the Sports Complex and Vets," said Umphres. "This week and next, they'll be out there putting that stuff together. The city has already done the post holes at the Sports Complex. They can just bounce over there and finish that while they're here."

Between the Ninja Course, rock wall and turf, the $471,000 MyBackyard Playgound project at the Activity Center is expected to be finished before the summer.

A 36' x 29' playground feature will also be installed at the Sports Complex for children ages 5 - 12.

A 20' x 20' area next to the softball fields at Veterans Park will also receive playground equipment.
