Wichita Trinity used a pair of second half goals to rally past the Great Bend Panthers 2-1 Saturday in Wichita.

Great Bend led 1-0 at halftime before Trinity scored twice in the second half to drop the Panthers to 1-5 on the Season.

The Panthers get a rematch with Hays Tuesday in Great Bend. The Indians beat Great Bend 6-1 in Hays last Tuesday.

Trinity rallies past Panthers 2-1

Ten minutes into Saturday's contest in Chanute the 16th ranked Barton Community College men's soccer team trailed by two but the Cougars stayed the course netting a pair of second half goals before getting an overtime winner for a 3-2 victory at nationally receiving votes Neosho County Community College.

Barton keeps pace for the West division chase improving to 4-1 and 9-2 on the season while Neosho County slips to 1-1 in league and 5-2 on the season.

Next for the Cougars is a Saturday 1:00 p.m. kick at Cougar Field against East leader Johnson County Community College.

Barton Men and Women pick up narrow conference victories

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Tigers shook off a sluggish start and rolled to a 51-14 win at Lincoln University on Saturday evening (Sept. 17). Lincoln grabbed an early 7-0 lead, but FHSU scored 48 unanswered points to run away with the victory. FHSU is now 1-2 on the season, while Lincoln dropped to 0-3.

The Tigers had a tough time getting their offense going in the first quarter and Lincoln scored a touchdown on a long touchdown pass about seven minutes into the contest. Lincoln led 7-3 by the end of the first quarter as FHSU picked up its only points in the frame on a 29-yard field goal by Emanuel Aguilar.

The Tigers finally got their offensive footing after a Daniel Howard interception on the first play of the second quarter. Big pass completions from Jack Dawson to Hunter Budke (19 yards), Collyn Kreutzer (13 yards), and Calvin Stapp (19 yards) set up a five-yard touchdown run by Dawson with 11:56 remaining before halftime. That gave the Tigers their first lead at 10-7 and they never looked back from that point. Aguilar tacked on his second field goal of the night from 23 yards and Ja'Quan Tillis hauled in a 10-yard pass from Dawson to cap the scoring for FHSU before halftime.

The Tigers kept the train rolling down the tracks in the third quarter with three touchdowns, extending their lead to 41-7 going into the final quarter. Dawson found Manny Ramsey for a five-yard touchdown pass, Clay Robinson had a one-yard touchdown plunge, and Dawson broke off a 30-yard run to the endzone.

Fort Hays State capped its 48-point scoring run early in the fourth on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Ethan Forrester to Tillis. Lincoln put together a touchdown drive to snap Fort Hays State's scoring run, but Aguilar added his third field goal of the night from 23 yards later to cap the scoring at 51-14.

Fort Hays State threw for an even 300 yards in the game, Dawson with 234 yards (16-of-24) and Forrester with 66 (6-of-7). The Tigers ran for 178 yards in the game by committee, led by Tillis with 46. Budke had a big night with 103 receiving yards on just three catches. On the defensive side of the ball, Jeremiah Jackson-Trotter, Makel Williams, Mason Perez, and Daniel Howard all finished with seven tackles to lead the Tigers. Jackson-Trotter had a team-high two sacks in the game. Hunter Brown added an interception alongside Howard's key pick early in the second quarter.

Zamar Brake threw for 126 yards for Lincoln. Omar Allen ran for 52 yards and Aderias Ealy led the Blue Tigers in receiving with 55 yards. Jaylon Mosley led Lincoln with 10 tackles.

Fort Hays State will be back at home next Saturday (Sept. 24) to host Missouri Southern in the annual Tiger Sports Hall of Fame game at 7 p.m. The Lions will enter at 2-1 on the season after a win over Central Oklahoma in Week 3.

The Barton Community College volleyball team went down in straight sets Saturday night at the Barton Gym to conference leader Butler Community College 25-23, 25-17, and 25-22.

Barton slips to 1-3 in conference play and 12-3 on the year while Butler, the defending region champions and receiving votes in the latest poll, solidify their current place atop the standings at 6-0 on their tenth straight win improving to 10-4.

The Cougars will next head to Colby, Kansas, for a Wednesday 6:30 p.m. match at Colby Community College before a two-match home stand beginning Monday hosting 17th ranked Hutchinson Community College followed by Garden City Community College coming to the Barton Gym on Wednesday.

Barton Volleyball takes home loss to front runner Butler

HOUSTON (AP) — Jalon Daniels threw for 158 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 123 yards and two scores as Kansas improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2009 with a 48-30 win over Houston on Saturday.

Daniels finished 14 of 23 and threw touchdown passes of 5, 60 and 8 yards. He had touchdown runs of 12 and 9 yards.

“I thought Jalon was excellent today,” Kansas coach Lance Leipold said. “He made some big plays, scrambling, keeping drives alive, saw some things, didn’t hesitate. Statistically, he probably didn’t get off to a great start, but I think again, a very solid day.”

He found 11 different receivers and threw touchdown passes to Torry Locklin, Jared Casey and Luke Grimm.

“We have a lot of people who are able to make plays with the ball in their hands in our offense,” Daniels said. “I feel like (offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki) realizes that, so I feel like he does a great job of being able to put guys in situations to be able to get the ball.”

Kansas finished with 438 yards, including 280 rushing yards. The Jayhawks won back-to-back road games for the first time since 2007.

“It’s huge for this program,” Leipold said about the undefeated start. “It’s huge for these players for everything they’ve gone through, the ones who have persevered through it all.”

After Houston opened up a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter, Kansas answered with 28 straight points on a 12-yard touchdown run by Daniels, an 8-yard touchdown run by Daniel Hishaw Jr. and touchdown passes of 5 yards and 60 yards by Daniels to open up a 14-point lead with a minute left in the first half.

Clayton Tune was 22 of 31 for 260 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He also rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown. Houston (1-2) finished with 446 total yards.

“There’s plenty of blame to go around,” Houston coach Dana Holgorsen said. “I got out-coached. … We got out-coached offensively, defensively. Put it on me. We have a lot of work to do.”

Brandon Campbell had 48 rushing yards and a score, and Ta’Zhawn Henry finished with 56 rushing yards and a touchdown and five catches for 107 yards and a score for Houston. Nathaniel Dell caught six passes for 76 yards.

Kansas: The Jayhawks started slow but couldn’t be stopped for the final 3½ quarters. Kansas continued to excel on third downs finishing 7 of 12 after entering 17 of 23, which leads the nation. The Jayhawks had just two penalties for 25 yards.

Houston: The Cougars entered the season with hopes of making a New Year’s six bowl, but that accomplishment looks slim following consecutive losses to Texas Tech and Kansas, two Big 12 teams that Houston will face regularly next season when they join the conference. The loss snaps a streak of seven straight home openers the Cougars had won.

With 9:21 remaining in the second quarter, the game was delayed due to lightning. Play resumed after a 70-minute delay. Halftime was shortened to 15 minutes due to the delay.

Daniels' 5 touchdowns power Kansas past Houston 48-30

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Michael Pratt only cared about one stat — the final score.

Pratt overcame two costly interceptions with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Tyrick James with 4:27 left and Tulane upset Kansas State 17-10 on Saturday.

“It doesn’t really matter what my stats are,” Pratt said. “I could have gone zero for 20 with five interceptions. If we win the game, that’s all I care about.”

K-State came into the game favored by two touchdowns.

The Green Wave stopped the Wildcats on fourth-and-short twice in the third quarter and again in the fourth prior to the game-winning drive. K-State finished 1 for 5 on fourth down.

“The front seven was amazing,” defensive back Macon Clark said. “They did a great job. We wouldn’t have won without them.”

It was Tulane’s first road victory over a Power-5 conference school since beating Rutgers in 2010. Rutgers was part of the Big East that season.

“I’m very proud of the whole team,” head coach Willie Fritz said. “It’s been a long time coming. We’ve worked extremely hard. We’re pumped up and excited. It’s great for the program.”

Fritz showed confidence in his team late in the fourth quarter. Leading by seven points and facing fourth down and less than a yard on their own 29, Fritz kept Pratt and the offense in the game. Pratt gained 2 yards and iced the victory.

“We’d better get it,” Pratt said of the decision. “I talked to the O-line and said, ‘This is one play where you guys have to do whatever you can to finish the game. I knew I had to get it; there’s no other option.”

The two teams came into the game having allowed a combined total of 22 points in two games. It was the second meeting between the two schools. Tulane came from behind to defeat K-State 20-16 in 1988, the year before coach Bill Snyder took over the Wildcats’ program.

Pratt was 13-of-26 passing with a touchdown and two interceptions, but came up big in the clutch for Tulane (3-0). He also had a career high with 87 rushing yards.

“That was a huge part of our game plan,” Pratt said. “They were going to rush three and drop eight to take away the pass. I knew I had to run the ball. I didn’t necessarily think it was going to be that much, but when opportunities present themselves you have to take advantage of them. I think I did.”

Adrian Martinez was 21-of-31 passing for 150 yards and a touchdown for Kansas State (2-1). Running back Deuce Vaughn was held to 81 yards on 20 carries, the first time in nine games that he’s been held to fewer than 100 yards rushing. He was held out of the end zone for the first time in 10 games.

“Teams are going to key on Deuce because he’s a special player,” Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman said. “We’ve got to ways to get the ball to Malik (Knowles) and Phil (Brooks) and Kade (Warner) and those guys, and let them have opportunities with the ball in space. We’ve got to be more efficient.”

Tulane grabbed the early lead on a 91-yard, nine-play drive, capped by a 1-yard run by Tyjae Spears. The Green Wave controlled the first quarter, out-gaining the Wildcats 125-46, even going against a strong wind.

Kansas State tied it with 2:43 left in the second quarter on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Martinez to his former Nebraska teammate Warner. That touchdown capped an eight-play, 75-yard drive.

Tulane appeared to be marching toward a go-ahead score late in the quarter when Daniel Green picked off Pratt’s pass at the KSU 28-yard line. He returned it 49 yards to the Tulane 23. A 22-yard field goal by Chris Tennant on the final play of the half gave K-State a 10-7 lead.

“We talk about four-point plays,” Fritz said. “We were happy giving up a field goal at that point in the game.”

Tulane opened the second half scoring with a 30-yard field goal by Kriston Esnard to tie the score at 10.

Tulane: The Green Wave proved that their 94-10 point differential in the first two games against lesser opposition was no fluke. They went toe-to-toe against the Wildcats, holding their best player to well below his season average.

Kansas State: The Wildcats hadn’t shown much on offense the first two games this season, but the defense was good enough that it didn’t matter. But the offensive struggles are very real.

Tulane: The Green Wave complete the non-conference portion of their schedule by hosting Southern Mississippi on Saturday.

Pratt rallies Tulane to 17-10 upset win over Kansas State

BOSTON (AP) — After scratching out just six runs in a four-game losing streak, the Kansas City batters felt like they owed their pitchers a little more support.

Then they realized Brady Singer didn't really need it.

Singer delivered his second straight scoreless outing, pitching out of a bases-loaded, nobody out jam to deliver six shutout innings on Saturday and help the Royals beat the Boston Red Sox 9-0.

“It was a nice showing from the offense, take a little stress off the pitchers because they’ve been picking us up and we haven’t really been doing anything for them,” said first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino, who had three hits and drove in three runs. “Brady doesn’t need any help, but it’s always nice when we give him something."

Pitching in Fenway Park for the first time, Singer (9-4) won his fifth straight decision, allowing five singles and a walk while striking out five. The 26-year-old College World Series champion from Florida has not allowed a run in 13 innings over two starts, and he has not lost in eight starts since Aug. 3.

On a staff with six-time All-Star and 2009 Cy Young Award winner Zack Greinke, Singer has developed into the No. 1 starter.

“The word ‘ace’ keeps coming out. We’re kind of waiting for one of our guys to take control of that," manager Mike Matheny said. “We have a Hall of Famer with us in Zack, and he’s a guy that’s always going to lead the way. But to have somebody that’s going out on a consistent basis and giving us the kinds of starts, keeping us in games, at times even dominant. He’s just taking it to another level.”

MJ Melendez scored four runs and also had three hits for the Royals. The first four batters in the Kansas City lineup went 10 for 20 with eight RBIs.

Rich Hill (7-7) gave up four runs, eight hits and a balk, striking out four.

He picked it up and threw it in, but not before Bobby Witt Jr. had scored from first. The play originally was scored a single and an error, but then was changed to a double.

Center fielder Kiké Hernandez had more than the sun to contend with when he settled under Pasquantino’s high popup in the first inning. As Hernandez and Verdugo moved in to field the ball, a small flock of birds took off from where they were resting on the grass.

RHP Franklin German made his major league debut for Boston, coming in to start the sixth inning. It didn’t go well.

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) — Chris Buescher closed out a bizarre first round of NASCAR’s playoffs in which none of the title contenders won a race by becoming the 19th winner this season with his victory Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway. The second win of Buescher’s career marked the first time in this format of NASCAR’s postseason that a playoff driver failed to win a race during a round. Erik Jones won the opener and Bubba Wallace won last week. The 16-driver field was cut by four, and eliminated from the playoffs were Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and RCR teammates Austin Dillon and Tyler Reddick.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense had been struggling all night against a ferocious Chargers pass rush when Jaylen Watson, an unheralded seventh-round draft pick, and the rest of the defense bailed them out.

Watson picked off the Chargers' Justin Herbert early in the fourth quarter Thursday night and returned the interception 99 yards for a go-ahead score that lifted Kansas City to an important 27-24 victory.

It was the second straight week that the Chiefs defense came up big, and an encouraging sign for a franchise that has often leaned far too heavily on Mahomes and his prolific offense to simply outscore opponents in big games.

“I talked to him afterward — I'm having a little birthday party on Saturday," said Mahomes, who will turn 27 on the same day Watson is turning 23. “I told him it's his birthday party now, the way he played.”

It wasn't just that Watson came up with the play of the day; it's that the entire defense rose to the occasion.

The Chargers raced to a 10-0 lead, then carried a 17-7 advantage into halftime, before coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's rebuilt bunch made a couple of tweaks to their game plan. They wound up holding Herbert and the potent Chargers offense off the scoreboard until a touchdown with just over a minute to go, by which point they needed to convert an onside kick.

The Chiefs recovered it and were able to run out the clock on the divisional win.

“We stuck together,” Chiefs safety Justin Reid said. “When crunch time came, players made big plays.”

It wasn't only Watson, either. Chris Jones had two more sacks — he has six in three career Thursday night games. Mike Danna put such a lick on Herbert that he knocked the quarterback from the game for a play. Willie Gay led the way with 11 tackles, two for a loss, and added two pass deflections.

Despite gaining 401 yards of total offense, the Chargers finished just 5 for 16 on third downs.

That was enough to keep the Chiefs in the game long enough for their offense to score some points, and to give Watson a chance to play the hero with what tied for the second-longest interception return for a touchdown in franchise history.

“That's the biggest thing: They just kept us in the game," Mahomes said of the defense, which held Arizona to six points until deep into the fourth quarter in Week 1. “With a young defense like that, to see them play that way, that's going to carry us through the rest of the season.”

It became clear that Kansas City was the fresher team in the second half, a byproduct of the brutally tough training camps that Andy Reid has made his hallmark. The ability to win games in the fourth quarter is an important trait.

The running game struggled to find space besides one carry by Clyde Edwards-Helaire that went for 52 yards and set up an important fourth-quarter field goal. Otherwise, the Chiefs carried 17 times for just 40 yards in the game.

Jerick McKinnon only carried four times for 12 yards, but he continued to prove his usefulness in the passing game by hauling in a touchdown pass in the second quarter. It's precisely the kind of versatility that Kansas City expects out of him after deciding to bring McKinnon back this past offseason.

Wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling signed as free agents to help make up for the trade of Tyreek Hill to Miami. But neither could find much room to work Thursday night. Smith-Schuster finished with three catches for 10 yards while Valdes-Scantling caught just two of his seven targets for 13 yards.

Danna hurt his calf late in the game. Wide receiver Justin Watson hurt his chest during the onside kick. Neither of the injuries is expected to be serious for the Chiefs, who hope to have kicker Harrison Butker (ankle) back for their next game after using Matt Ammendola as a fill-in Thursday night.

BOSTON (AP) — J.D. Martinez had an RBI single in the eighth inning and the Boston Red Sox rallied late to beat the Kansas City Royals 2-1 on Friday night.

Martinez's single to left was just the third hit for Boston, which had just tied it up when reliever Scott Barlow walked Jason Verdugo with the bases loaded after Dylan Coleman (4-2) issued two walks to start the inning.

“We didn’t get too many hits but we had a lot of traffic. For him to get that hit was big,” manager Alex Cora said.

Garrett Whitlock (4-2) gave up a hit in the eighth and Matt Strahm got the last three outs for his fourth save.

Boston had lost six of eight, including a two-game sweep by the Yankees at home this week and nearly fell to the struggling Royals.

Kansas City, which has lost four straight and eight of 10, led 1-0 after MJ Melendez opened the sixth with a triple and easily scored on a single by Salvador Perez.

The Royals finished with eight hits — all coming from different players. Only Nicky Lopez, who batted eighth, failed to get a hit. But Kansas City also issued eight walks, half of them in the eighth when both Devers and Verdugo walked on only four pitches.

“Couple big spots, we could’ve used some pitches that were really good pitches but they didn’t get called. You’ve got to fight your way through it,” Royals manager Mike Matheny said. “The free bases hurt you in games like that.”

Jonathan Heasley started and pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings for the Royals, allowing two hits and striking out five.

Michael Wacha went seven innings for Boston, giving up one run and seven hits while striking out four.

Melendez led off the sixth with a drive deep to center, where Kiké Hernández leaped high at the base of the wall but couldn't quite reach the ball. Melendez was already well around second before Tommy Pham ran over from left and got the ball back to the infield.

Coleman started the eighth for Kansas City and issued back-to-back walks. Barlow loaded the bases by walking Rafael Devers, struck out Xander Bogaerts, but walked Verdugo on four pitches with Hernández trotting home for the tying run.

Martinez was next and lined a single to left that easily scored Abraham Almonte, who pinch-hit for Kevin Plawecki and drew the second walk of the inning. After seeing Verdugo walk on four pitches, Martinez said he went to the plate fully intent on taking the first pitch — until he saw it.

“He just kind of left it over the middle and I was like ‘all right, we’re swinging.’” Martinez said.

Boston squandered an opportunity in the fifth after a pair of walks and a single by Arroyo loaded the bases with one out for Hernández, who grounded into a double play.

Despite the loss, the Royals showed they have some talented young players and reason to be optimistic. Melendez, Bobby Witt Jr. and Heasley are all rookies who helped the Royals nearly pull off a win in Boston.

Witt robbed Bogaerts of a hit with a diving stop in the fourth, Melendez set up the go-ahead run with his 35th extra-base hit of the season and Heasley looked strong and undaunted in his first appearance at Fenway Park.

“Best start we’ve seen from him in the big leagues without a doubt. He was attacking with everything,” Matheny said. “Everything was right how he wanted it to be. You couldn’t ask him to do any more than what he did.”

Some baserunning mistakes caught both clubs early in the game. Devers singled for Boston with one out in the first, but strayed way too far when Bogaerts hit a soft fly that Witt caught and easily made the throw to double-up Devers.

In the third, Dozier led off with a liner off the Green Monster for the Royals’ first hit, but attempted to stretch it into a double and was easily caught by Pham’s throw from left.

Royals: Witt fouled a ball off the top of his left foot in the sixth and needed a few minutes before stepping back into the batter’s box. Matheny and a member of the Royals’ training staff came out of the dugout to make sure the star rookie SS was OK.

Red Sox: 2B Trevor Story was out of the lineup for the third straight game since injuring his left heel on a base Sunday at Baltimore. Cora said Story is improving and could return to the lineup this weekend.

Martinez has RBI single in 8th, Red Sox beat Royals 2-1

The Kansas Shrine Bowl on Friday announced Hays High School head coach Tony Crough, former Great Bend High School coach, will lead the West team in the Shrine Bowl in July 2023.

Crough was an assistant for the West team in 2022. The East head coach will be Clint Rider, head coach of Blue Valley Northwest.

The Shrine Bowl also announced Friday that Mammoth, a design-build sports construction partner will be the game’s first-ever presenting sponsor for its 50th&nbsp;game on July 15 at Lewis Field at Fort Hays State University.&nbsp;

As title sponsor, the event will officially be called the 50th&nbsp;Kansas Shrine Bowl Presented by Mammoth.&nbsp;

The Shrine Bowl and Mammoth unveiled the 50th&nbsp;Game badge at the at the Hays Convention and Visitors Bureau  Friday.&nbsp;

Since its first event in 1974, the Kansas Shrine Bowl raised more than $3 million for Shriners Children’s. The event is known nationwide as one of the largest Shrine Bowls, with opportunities for high school all-star football players, cheerleaders, and band members. The timing of Friday’s title sponsorship announcement coincided with the broadcast of Shriners 100th anniversary special airing on ABC affiliates around the country titled “Miracles Magic &amp; Milestones.” A 30-minute TV special hosted by Kristen Bell, the program features patient stories, surprise guests, and a celebration of 100 years of Shriners being the premiere health care organization for children.&nbsp;

Shriners Children's St. Louis is the closest Shriners hospital to Kansas, and one of the destinations for funds raised by the Kansas Shrine Bowl.&nbsp;

To witness children helping other children touches our hearts. The Kansas Shrine Bowl is an all-star high school senior, East vs. West, football game put on each year in Kansas, by the Kansas Shrine. It is a 501(c) 3 non-profit charity that produces annual events and related activities, with net proceeds benefiting Shriners Hospitals for Children, now know as Shriners Children’s. The Kansas Shrine Bowl has sent over $3 million to Shriners Children’s.&nbsp;

The game has been played throughout Kansas each summer since 1974. Host cities have included Lawrence, Manhattan, Wichita, Topeka, Hays, Emporia, Pittsburg, Dodge City and Hutchinson. The West football team camp will be held at Bethany College in Lindsborg, and the East will be at Ottawa University in Ottawa. The East Camp directors are Jack Call and Tim Williams. The West Camp directors are Richard Steele and Greg King.

Beginning in 1974, the flagship event has been the East/West All-Star Football Game. As of 2021, the West leads the series with 30 wins, the East has 17 wins, and there has been one tie. Current NFL alumni include Cody Whitehair (Chicago Bears), B.J. Finney (Pittsburg Steelers), and Deante Burton (Dallas Cowboys). Additional notable alumni include former All-Pro Wide Receiver Jordy Nelson, former All-Pro NFL Defensive Back Terrance Newman, NFL Hall of Famer Barry Sanders, former Kansas State and Kansas City Chiefs Linebacker Gary Spani, former Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl Champion Linebacker Mark Simoneau and many others.&nbsp;

The Kansas Shrine Bowl also includes the Kansas Masonic All-State Marching Band Camp, Kansas Shrine Bowl Cheer Camp, Bbanquet, parade, golf tournament and more.&nbsp;

All Shrine Bowl events are produced and presented to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children. It is a health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research, and outstanding teaching programs for medical professionals. Children up to the age of 18 are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment, regardless of the patients' ability to pay.&nbsp;

 </figure>The Kansas Shrine Bowl on Friday announced Hays High School head coach Tony Crough, former Great Bend High School coach, will lead the West team in the Shrine Bowl in July 2023.Crough was an assistant for the West team in 2022. The East head coach will be Clint Rider, head coach of Blue Valley Northwest. Former Great Bend coach named to Shrine Bowl staff

The Olathe Twilight meet last Saturday was an exceptional one. But now it's business as usual for the Great Bend High School cross country runners. Thursday night in Buhler, the Lady Panthers returned to the top spot of the team standings, and senior Kaiden Esfeld won the boys' race.&nbsp;

The Lady Panthers scored 37 points for the win. Reigning Class 3A champion Southeast of Saline finished second with 54 points, and Winfield scored 67 points for third.

Southeast of Saline won team and individual 3A titles in 2021, placing three in the top-11 at state. Senior Ashley Prochazka was that 11th-place finisher a year ago, and she won the Buhler Invite by four seconds in 20:59. Lady Panther junior Addy Nicholson ran behind her in 21:03.4, and sophomore Marissa Boone ran fourth in 21:32.1, 22 seconds behind SES's top-six state finisher from a year ago.

Eliana Beckham ran sixth for Great Bend in 22:01.7, Morgan Beckwith finished 12th in 22:35.1, and Reese King claimed the final team points in 13th with a time of 22:38.7. Sienna Smith and Kate Welcher also ran the varsity race, placing 33rd and 35th, respectively, in 24:19 and 24:31.

Berean Academy has won two 2A titles in three years and finished second Thursday with 60 points. Esfeld slowed a bit from his first two races but still beat the Buhler field by nine seconds in 16:46.1. Berean's Andrew Harder, the 12th-place finisher in 2A last fall, won the silver by two seconds in 16:55.

Freshman Ismael Ramirez finished next for the Panthers in 19:59 for 44th. Tavon Stroup placed 47th in 20:11, and Thomas Henrikson finished 55th in 20:33. Braylon Moore scored the final team points in 63rd in 21:03. Bradon Suppes ran 68th in 21:34, and Brantley Vsetecka placed 77th in 24:06.
