ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — With the Super Bowl
 in the rearview, all eyes in St. Joseph are turning to ensuring the 
return of Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp this summer. &nbsp;

Mayor 
John Josendale says the effort to keep Chiefs Training Camp at Missouri 
Western is a combined effort between the city, Chamber of Commerce, 
Mosaic Life Care, as well as Missouri Western. &nbsp;

Josendale says the Chiefs are very demanding with Chiefs President Mark Donovan wanting every year to be bigger and better.&nbsp;

"Last
 year we kind of did that, so this year doing it with the world champion
 Chiefs and being able to do it in St. Joe, we're looking forward to 
that," Josendale tells host Barry Birr on the KFEQ Hotline. "So, we're 
going to plan for them being here, hopefully that comes through in the 
next couple of months that they're here, and we'll build on that."&nbsp;

Chiefs
 Training Camp has been hosted at Missouri Western State University 
since 2010, except for the COVID year.&nbsp; Josendale says currently the 
deal being negotiated is on a year-to-year basis.&nbsp;

"We know that 
we did very well last year, that we got very strong reviews, we know 
that Andy Reid does like being in St. Joe," Josendale says. &nbsp;

Josendale says it's also well known that the players enjoy being here as well.&nbsp;

"They
 come up here, they stay, they get away from the home life in Kansas 
City or wherever they're from, it blends them together and puts them in 
together to where they build that team comradery," Josendale explains.&nbsp;

The
 Chiefs would be coming back to St. Joe as world champions, after 
defeating the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.&nbsp; Mayor John Josendale says he 
thinks it's fair that St. Joseph can take a little credit for that, as 
the place that journey started.&nbsp;

"We put our best foot forward 
when we show the town at that, and this is something that's really 
exciting, not only for us, but when Kansas City wins a world 
championship, St. Joe wins also," Josendale says.

As most competitive meets go, Sunday was no exception as the 2023 Region VI Indoor Championship team title came down to the final event as an untimely injury left the 6th ranked Barton Community College men's track and field team settling for a third place overall standing.

The two-day competition boiled down to the 4x400m relay event at Pittsburg State University's Robert W. Plaster Center, Fort Scott edging Cloud County by .33 seconds in grabbing the team title accumulating 117 total points, just .50 points ahead of the T-Birds' runner-up.

Barton, who was leading the team total going into the final event, was dealt an unfortunate injury during the first leg of the race to fall behind the pack, but kept fighting through the remaining three baton handoffs in finishing 6th overall of the fourteen grouping race in sliding to the 3rd team overall placing with 114 points.

Fabian Campbell was the lone Cougar to grab an individual time, winning the 600m in 1:18.91 and nearly pulling off another title in the meet's second-to-last-event of the 1000m by clocking a 2:28.41 in coming up .29 seconds shy.

Elijah Mosley's bid for his second straight 400m indoor title was snatched at the finish line resulting in a .01 second loss by clocking a 47.27.

The Cougars conclude the indoor season in a couple of weeks competing at the 2023 NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships held March 3-4 at Washburn University's Athletic Facility in Topeka, Kansas.

Tuesday Area High School Basketball Schedule

The 5th ranked Barton Community College women's track and field team completed the weekend trip to Pittsburg with the program's 30th Region VI title Sunday afternoon at the Robert W. Plaster Center on the campus of Pittsburg State University.

Barton won seven events in the two day meet, accumulation 162 points to capture the meet by nine points ahead of Cloud County Community College's 153 and third place Fort Scott Community College's 111 points.

Named the Female Track Athlete of the Meet after scoring sixteen points in two events, Kelsie Murrell-Ross also left her name atop the meet and program record book on Sunday in resetting the best shot put mark. Winning the event on her first toss of the afternoon, the sophomore bettered that mark two more times but made the most of her last throw in uncorking a record 16.30m (53-05.75) to best Fiona Richards' 2020 program top mark (16.28m, 53-05.00) by less than an inch. Freshman Treneese Hamilton placed runner-up in also resetting her personal best, marking a 14.76m (48-05.00) on Sunday for the program's 8th best mark and moving up to the third slot on the current national rankings.

The Cougars began their title quest on Saturday in the multis as Barton put 19 early points on the board behind a trio of Pentathlon athletes. Freshman Ana Couto won two of the events on the way to a meet record 3748 points to rank 5th best in program history. Kayleigh Prentiss placed 3rd with 2988 points while Ahniesha Presulume took 7th in accumulating 2315 points.

On the track Naiya Morgan become a 2023 two-time indoor Region VI Champion, winning the 400m in 55.09 to post a new personal best then a short time later winning the 200m in 24.39 seconds.

Other Region VI Champions: Kay-Lagay Clarke in long jump (6.05m, 19-10.25), Jazmine Williamson in high jump (1.71m, 5-07.25), and Brittania Ingram in the triple jump (12.20m, 40-00.25).

With the team's success also came the Cougars' second individual award of the day as Emmanuel Dixon was named the KJCCC Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.

Barton women's track and field captures Region VI Indoor title

The Barton Community College baseball team completed a four-game sweep over Western Nebraska Community College Sunday afternoon at Lawson-Biggs Field with a pair of 4-3 and 11-1 victories.

Adding Saturday's 21-6 and 11-6 wins, the Cougars have now swept the last seven series against WNCC and won the last 24 contests.

Winning their second straight weekend series, Barton improves to 6-1 on the early season while Western Nebraska drops to 1-7 overall.

The Cougars will head to Enid, Oklahoma on Friday for a pair of games taking on host Northern Oklahoma College-Enid at 12:00 p.m. and Des Moines Area Community College at 3:00 p.m. Barton will conclude the four-game weekend making the short drive to Tonkawa for a doubleheader against Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa with first pitch slated for 12:00 p.m.

Barton Baseball completes four game sweep over Western Nebraska

— Madi Williams scored 23 points, Liz Scott had a double-double,
and No. 15 Oklahoma held off Kansas 86-80. A free throw by Zakiyah
Franklin drew Kansas within 82-80 with 3:12 remaining. Neither team
would score another field goal as Kansas missed its last nine shots
and Oklahoma’s last field goal came with 5:12 remaining. Williams
made two free throws with 37 seconds left and Ana Llanusa added two
more with nine seconds left to wrap up Oklahoma’s sixth consecutive
victory. Scott had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Sooners. She and
Williams were two of five players in double-figures scoring for
Oklahoma. Franklin led Kansas with a career-high 30 points.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP)
— Jayson Tatum put on a record-setting show, and made Giannis
Antetokounmpo look like a genius. Tatum scored an All-Star
Game-record 55 points, and Team Giannis ended LeBron James’ hold on
All-Star captain supremacy by beating Team LeBron 184-175 in the
NBA’s annual showcase exhibition game Game on Sunday night. Tatum
had 27 of his points in the third quarter, another All-Star Game
record for any period. He was the first pick by Antetokounmpo in the
starters’ portion of the All-Star draft, and in the end, that pick
proved to absolutely be the right one.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP)
— Milwaukee star Giannis Antetokounmpo was scheduled to be in New
York on Monday to undergo testing and get further evaluation on his
injured right wrist, according to a person with knowledge of the
matter. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of
anonymity Sunday night because neither the Bucks nor Antetokounmpo
released the plans publicly. Antetokounmpo injured his wrist Thursday
in Chicago after attempting to block a shot. Antetokounmpo exited
after only nine minutes and did not return. He had X-rays and Bucks
coach Mike Budenholzer said at the time they came back clean.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.
(AP) — Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won the Daytona 500 in double overtime
and under caution Sunday night in the longest running of “The Great
American Race.” The two overtimes pushed the 65th running of the
race to a record 212 laps — 12 laps beyond the scheduled distance.
Stenhouse’s win in a Chevrolet for JTG Daugherty Racing was the
third of his career. His only other victories came in 2017 — at
Talladega and the summer race at Daytona. His race team is partially
owned by former NBA player Brad Daugherty.

LOS ANGELES (AP) —
Jon Rahm is back to No. 1 in the world and looking very much the
part. He won the Genesis Invitational with a 69 in the final round at
Riviera. That gives him a two-shot victory over Max Homa and a trophy
presented by tournament host Tiger Woods. Woods played his first
72-hole tournament since the Masters last April. He shot 73 and tied
for 45th. Rahm now has three wins in five starts this year on the PGA
Tour. He has five wins in his last nine tournaments worldwide. He has
made $9.4 million the last two months.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) —
New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu is feeling great as the former
batting champion looks to put an injured-marred 2022 behind him.
LeMahieu was limited to 125 regular-season games and sat out the
postseason because of a right toe injury. He has been working out at
the Yankees’ minor league complex since December. LeMahieu said
missing the playoffs, where the Yankees were swept in a four-game AL
Championship Series by the eventual World Series champion Houston
Astros, was the worst feeling. The Yankees hold their first
full-squad workout on Monday.

— Cleveland Guardians manager Terry Francona is feeling much better
these days. He has a rod in his left foot that bothers him when he
wears his beloved flip-flops, but that's a breeze compared with what
he experienced in the past. The 63-year-old Francona says he has the
same perspective that he did before the health issues, but he is
thankful that he isn’t limping as much as before. Francona, a
two-time World Series winner with Boston, directed a young group of
Guardians to the AL Central title in 2022.

Monday Sports Headlines and Scores presented by Barton Community College

The Barton Community College baseball team pounded out 32 runs on 32 hits in Saturday afternoons home opener, sweeping its' doubleheader over Western Nebraska Community College by scores of 21-6 and 11-6.

The victories improve the Cougars to 4-1 in the early season while the Western Nebraska Cougars slide to 1-6 on the season. Barton will look to claim the four-game series tomorrow afternoon with another 1:00 p.m. twinbill from Lawson-Biggs Field.

Sophomore Ricardo Sanchez led the Barton bats turning in a 6-for-7 day at the plate hitting his first long ball of the season, legging out two doubles and driving in nine runs in the pair of games. Quinton Robertson knocked in four runs on the afternoon going 4-for-7 with two doubles and a triple.

Barton scored in all four turns at the plate with eight of the nine in the lineup driving in a pair of RBIs in the runaway 21-6 victory.

Robertson's first collegiate triple highlighted a string of three straight two-out hits producing a three run first inning. Following a Western Nebraska home run by Bryce Peterson, the Cougars answered the call in the home second exploding for nine runs.

Barton sent 14 batters to the plate in the second inning, producing eight of its games 17 hits in the frame.

Seven different Cougars had multi-hit games as Barton racked up a total of five extra base hits.

Sanchez went 2-for-2 with four RBIs to lead the Barton offense. He drove in two in the second inning before adding his other pair of RBIs on a single in the bottom of the third.

Dryden Howse turned in his fifth career three-hit day as a Cougar, going 3-for-4 with a trio of singles, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Robertson had his first career three RBI game.

Starter Owen Reynolds notched his first victory of the season. The sophomore allowed six runs scattering five hits, walking three and striking out six.

Ivan Cox threw two shutout innings from the bullpen allowing just two hits, one walk and fanning a pair of Cougars.

Barton's offense remained contagious in the nightcap tallying 15 hits off a trio of Western Nebraska pitchers. The Cougars scored two runs in the first, four in the third, one in the fourth and sixth, two in the seventh and one final marker in the eighth.

Sanchez was 4-for-5 with a home run, double, two runs scored and five RBIs to pace the Barton bats.

Riley Silva was 3-for-5 with three runs scored.

Ayden Hadley was 2-for-4 while producing his first collegiate two-RBI game.

Robertson concluded the multi-hit performances with a 2-for-4 game legging out a double, scoring a run and driving in a run.

David Stuart improved his early season record to 2-0 with six strong innings. The sophomore allowed three hits and one run while tying his career high in strikeouts with eight while walking a pair.

Jordan Bedell worked an inning allowing a run in relief.

Kade Walker worked 1.1-innings surrendering four hits, three earned runs while striking out a trio of Cougars and walking one.

Colton Wahlstrom made his second appearance of the year working a scoreless final inning issuing one walk and recording a strikeout.

Barton Baseball opens home slate with doubleheader sweep over Western Nebraska

The Barton Community College softball finished up its four-game swing to Weatheford, Texas, on Saturday with a Saturday split of games in going 2-2 at the Coyote Chillout.

The Cougars knocked off Region VI member and Division II 15th ranked Cowley College 10-5 in the early 10:00 a.m. contest before wrapping up the weekend coming up short 5-3 against host Weatherford College.

Now 3-6 on the season, Barton will have its last tune-up for the conference season on Tuesday in hosting the junior varsity squad from Bethany College in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader. The Cougars will then open the conference season on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Garden City Community College.

The Tigers got on the board in their first at-bat, advancing the runner on a sacrifice bunt before driving in the run.

Barton had a trio of three-run frames in the contest, the first coming in the Cougars first at-bat with Sydni Williams and Jaysa Anderson's consecutive two-out singles producing the final two runs of the frame.

Both teams went scoreless in the next two innings, Cowley tying the game in the fourth as a 1-out walk and double crossed the dish from a 2-out single to chase starter Kayla Beers in place of Jessica Morgan.

Morgan struck out the final batter of the inning as the Cougars took the lead for good in the home half as Laci Dryden's leadoff double would score on a misplayed liner off the bat of Jenna Henderson.

Following a quick 1-2-3 top of the fifth, Barton went back to work as Williams and Anderson's singles began the frame, Dryden drawing a one-out walk to load the bags. Leslie Ramos drew a two-out RBI walk with Anderson and Dryden scoring on an errant fielder's choice play.

Morgan sent the Tigers down in order again in the sixth, Barton growing their lead by another three runs keyed by Williams and Anderson setting the stage with a double and single respectively. Lani Dryden drove home the Cougars' 8th run and following Laci Dryden's walk to load the bases, sacrifice flies by Halie Stoneking and Calli McConnell drove in the final Barton runs.

Cowley did put two on the board in their final at-bat but Morgan closed the door with her 4th strikeout in moving to 2-2 on the year.

Anderson led Barton's eleven hits with a 4-for-4 performance with Williams finishing 3-for-4.

Barton outhit the host 5-4 but the Coyotes got all the runs they needed in the first two innings, plating one in the first and three in the second to chase Henderson (0-3) out of the circle.

The Cougars cut the deficit in half in the top of the 3rd, Lani Dryden leading off the frame with a double but remained in place until Ramos delivered a two-out RBI then Barton received the a break on McConnell's ground ball resulting in Ramos scoring on an error.

The Coyotes pushed the margin back to two in the home half as a one-out walk would be followed by a double and a RBI groundout.

Both teams went silent in the fourth, Barton picking up their final run in the fifth on Laci Dryden's 1-out walk scoring on Stoneking's base knock.

Beers surrendered just a walk in Weatherford's next two innings but the Cougars were equally silenced as Anderson's leadoff hit in the seventh couldn't spark a late rally.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — DaJuan Harris scored all 14 of his points in the second half as No. 5 Kansas stormed back from a double-digit halftime deficit and beat No. 9 Baylor 87-71 Saturday.

The Jayhawks (22-5, 10-4 Big 12) outscored the Bears 55-26 in the second half.

“That's Harris and (Kevin) McCullar,” Kansas coach Bill Self said when asked to describe the turnaround in the second half. “The good looks (Baylor) got in the second half, they didn't make them. In the first half, even when they got hard looks, they made them.

"Harris can make shots. He just doesn't take a lot of them.”

Jalen Wilson led Kansas with 21 points and 13 rebounds. KJ Adams added 17 points and Gradey Dick had 16.

“We just had to gain composure,” Wilson said of the second-half surge. “It's a long game, and we're never going to quit.”

The Jayhawks are tied with Texas for the top spot in the Big 12 Conference. The Longhorns beat Oklahoma 85-83 in overtime earlier Saturday.

“You can now start talking about the conference race,” Self said. “There's only four games left and we're in a good position.”

Baylor is in sole possession of third place, a game behind Kansas and Texas and a game ahead of Kansas State and Iowa State.

“That's a good game for the Big 12,” Baylor coach Scott Drew said. “You saw what we were capable of in the first half and what Kansas is capable of in the second half.”

Baylor (20-7, 9-5) got nearly all of its scoring from its three-guard combo of Adam Flagler (22 points) Keyonte George (20 points) and LJ Cryer (15 points). The rest of the team combined to score just 14 points.

Baylor shot 9 of 14 from 3-point range in the first half and and 10 for 25 overall. Conversely, Kansas, which hit only 1 of 11 from beyond the arc in the first half finished 6 for 21 from long distance.

The Jayhawks scored the last three points of the first half and the first 10 of the second half to trim a 15-point deficit to 45-42 with less than 2:30 gone in the second half.

“As good as we were in the first half, that's how bad we were in the second half,” Drew said. “They just killed us in transition.”

When Dick hit a 3-pointer at the 14:29 mark, Kansas had stormed all the way back and led 50-49. The Jayhawks never trailed again and extended the lead to double digits (65-54) at the 10:20 mark of the second half.

“You're not going to change (the momentum) by making shots,” Wilson said. “It's going to start by making stops. We needed to be aggressive.”

The Bears led 20-14 at the second media timeout with Cryer (11 points) and Flagler (9) combining for all 20 Baylor points. Baylor used an 8-0 run to extend the lead to 33-21 with 5:07 left. George joined in the scoring, and when he hit a 3-pointer with 3:54, followed by another with 3:32 left, the Bears led 39-23 with all the points coming from the three guards.

Baylor led 45-32 at halftime after hitting nine 3-pointers. George led the Bears with 15 first-half points. Flagler had 14 and Cryer had 13. Jalen Bridges had the only other three points of the half.

Baylor also held a 21-13 advantage on the boards in the first half.

No. 5 Kansas rallies in 2nd half, beats No. 9 Baylor 87-71

“I just wanted to win,” Nowell said. “I wanted to do anything possible to win today, and that was my mindset.”

Aljaz Kunc led Iowa State (17-9, 8-6) with 15 points.

Without their 3-point leader, Caleb Grill, in the lineup, the Cyclones worked the inside. They had 24 points inside and relied on balanced scoring, led by Kunc.

“We just weren’t as intentional defensively, so I felt like it threw our game off balance,” Iowa State head coach T.J. Otzelberger said. “Credit to K-State for the job they did defensively, but it played a role in stretching us out more.”

Cyclone guards Jaren Holmes and Gabe Kalscheur went a combined 6 for 30 from the floor.

Iowa State entered the game leading the Big 12 in steals and boasting the conference's best turnover margin. The Wildcats entered with 84 turnovers in the last five games. Yet, Kansas State kept the turnover rate under control with only 11 and generated more points off turnovers with 19.

Nowell scores 20, No. 12 K-State beats No. 19 Iowa St 61-55

With the majority of Class 5A's ranked individual wrestlers, and seven of the top-10 teams in the classification, Friday and Saturday's super regional in Andover lived up to its name. Great Bend paid no mind, qualifying 10 of its 14 wrestlers to next week's state tournament. Top-ranked Maize won the team title with 243.5 points, followed by second-ranked Newton with 220.5 points. The third-place spot was up for grabs with No. 4 Goddard scoring 149 points, followed by No. 5 Valley Center with 146 points, and the No. 9 Panthers placing fifth with 144 points.

All six ranked wrestlers made up the field at 144 pounds where Panther sophomore Jace Schartz, ranked No. 5, finished third. As the No. 6 seed, Schartz opened with an 8-0 win over Hutchinson, then upset third-ranked Bradley Trimmell in sudden victory to secure a spot at state. Schartz blanked the No. 6 wrestler from Eisenhower 9-0 to reach the consolation finals where he won by forfeit. Schartz enters the state bracket with a 38-8 record.

The 106-pound bracket was filled with five of the top six wrestlers, but freshman Triston Tomlinson still managed a third-place finish. After a bye, he pinned an opponent before losing a 7-2 decision to second-ranked Talon Verbeck of Maize. On the back side, the fourth-ranked Tomlinson won a 4-1 decision over the No. 6 wrestler from Ark City, then beat fourth-ranked Grady Lind of Hays 5-4 in the consolation finals. Tomlinson takes a 30-11 record to state.

Sixth-ranked Skyler McMullen was one of five ranked wrestlers at 138 pounds, but he also made it to the consolation finals. The senior pinned his first two opponents to qualify for state before losing 15-7 to top-ranked and one-loss Adam Maki of Andover. McMullen needed just 46 seconds to pin his Valley Center opponent in the consolation semifinals, but he lost an 8-2 decision to fourth-ranked Brady Duling of Bishop Carroll to fall to fourth. McMullen enters state with a 32-11 record.

Schroeder opened with a pin before losing 5-4 to the No. 5 seed and eventual third-place finisher from Hutchinson. Schroeder advanced out of the blood round by fall, then pinned his Valley Center opponent. After losing 6-5 to sixth-ranked Marcel Gonzalez of Newton, Schroeder secured fifth place with a pin against Hays. Schroeder heads to state with a 37-11 record.

He pinned his first opponent before losing a 9-0 major decision against the eventual third-place finisher from Andover. Hoffman lost a 4-0 decision to third-ranked Kolton McElwain of Goddard in the consolation semifinals, then lost to Hays in the fifth-place match. Hoffman takes a 24-15 record to state.

Freshman Hayden Kelly had an exciting tournament at 132 pounds to qualify in eighth. After an 8-1 loss to Andover to open the tournament, Kelly stayed alive with a pin against Emporia, then punched his ticket to state with a sudden-victory win against Goddard. Kelly lost a 12-1 major decision to fifth-ranked Abram Owings of Salina Central, then was pinned by Andover Central in the seventh-place match. Kelly heads to state with an 18-21 record.

Freshman Trenton Kern took the final qualifying spot at 190 pounds. As the No. 5 seed, he pinned his first opponent before getting pinned by fifth-ranked Logan Buchanan of Newton. Needing one win to qualify, Kern did just that with a pin against Hays. Kern then lost a sudden-victory match against Bishop Carroll, then fell 3-2 to Salina Central in the seventh-place match. Kern advances to state with a 27-20 record.

As the No. 9 seed at 285 pounds, sophomore Brody Schnoebelen was on the outside looking into state, at least on paper. He picked up a small upset in round win, advancing by injury default against Hays. After getting pinned by second-ranked Rio Gomez of Newton, Schnoebelen ended any state drama with a 35-second pin against Topeka West. Schnoebelen was pinned by Hutchinson and Salina Central to drop to eighth place. He takes a 25-19 record to state.

Sophomore Michael Montoya made it to the blood round at 165 pounds. After a loss to fourth-ranked Keon Edwards of Newton, Montoya stayed alive and secured a winning record with a pin against Kapaun. His season came to an end with a loss by fall to Bishop Carroll.

Senior Ambrose Kramer came up one win shy of qualification at 113 pounds. He opened with a loss to third-ranked Braxton Moody of Valley Center, but stayed alive with a pin against Topeka West. His season came to a close with a loss by fall against Hays. Freshman Aaron Ramirez went 0-2 at 120 pounds, including a first-round loss to the fourth-ranked wrestler from Andover. Freshman Trevin Maciel lost both of his matches at 157 pounds.

The Class 5A State Wrestling Championships are scheduled for Feb. 24-25 at Park City's Hartman Arena.

Great Bend paid no mind, qualifying 10 of its 14 wrestlers to next week's state tournament. Top-ranked Maize won the team title with 243.5 points, followed by second-ranked Newton with 220.5 points. Ten Panther wrestlers headed to state

The Barton Community College softball split its games Friday at the Coyote Chillout in Weatherford, Texas, handing Rose State College their first defeat of the year with a 9-3 win but couldn't hold a late lead in dropping a walk-off 5-4 loss to 4th ranked Seminole State College.

Now 2-5 on the season, Barton will take on Region VI member and Division II 15th ranked Cowley College at 10:00 a.m. Saturday before winding up the trip with a 2:00 p.m. contest against host Weatherford College.

Barton jumped on the Raiders with six runs in their first at-bat, Leslie Ramos' double driving in Halie Stoneking's leadoff walk with the big blow being dealt in the lower lineup by the Dryden twins.

Following Kayden Smith and Sydni Williams' walks and Jaysa Anderson's infield single to load the bags, Lani Dryden's misplayed hard liner plated the Cougars' third run of the game with Laci Dryden following with a deep triple in driving in the freshman's first collegiate RBIs.

The Raiders picked one of the runs up in the bottom of the first on a two-out hit then added two more in the next frame on another two-out hit, a two-run home run scoring a leadoff walk in slicing the deficit in half.

Barton got two of the runs back in the ensuing third inning as Williams' leadoff walk traveled the bases on Anderson's triple. Lani Dryden then collected her first of two RBI's in the game with a sacrifice fly to plate Anderson before adding the Cougars' final run in the seventh inning driving in Jenna Henderson's leadoff walk.

Jessica Morgan picked up her first win of her sophomore campaign, keeping the now 3-1 Raiders off the scoreboard the rest of the way in scattering seven hits in the complete game while striking out six.

Both teams couldn't crack the scoreboard until the fourth inning until a combined six runs were put on the scoreboard.

Britt Dutton needed 38 points
Friday to reach 2,000 career points as the Ellinwood Eagles travelled
to Otis-Bison to take on the Cougars in Central Prairie league
action. Dutton scored 43 and needed only three quarters to reach the
rare high school milestone in a 89-33 victory over the Cougars.


Dutton scored 28 points in the
first half, then added 15 in the third before head coach Derek Joiner
took out the starters in the blowout victory.


Dutton now has 2007 career
points and becomes just the 23rd boys player in Kansas
basketball history to reach the 2,000 point total. With more games to
play, the Senior now ranks 21st on the all time Kansas
boys basketball scoring list.

basketball history to reach the 2,000 point total. With more games to
play, the Senior now ranks 21st on the all time Kansas
