Dillon Gabriel threw for 191 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the first half to lead Oklahoma. Gabriel did not play in the second half after suffering an upper body injury just before halftime. Gavin Sawchuk led the Sooners on the ground with 107 yards and scored the go-ahead fourth quarter touchdown. Oklahoma (9-2, 6-2 Big 12, no. 14 in CFP) kept its hopes for reaching the Big 12 championship game alive. Aidan Robbins ran for a season-high 182 yards to lead BYU. Jake Retzlaff threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns, but he also had a pair of fumbles and an interception for the Cougars (5-6, 2-6 Big 12).

HOUSTON (AP) — Alan Bowman threw for 348 yards and two touchdowns and No. 24 Oklahoma State kept its hopes of reaching the Big 12 Championship game alive with a 43-30 win over Houston. Ollie Gordon II rushed for 164 yards and three second half touchdowns for the Cowboys. Brennan Presley caught a career-high 15 passes for 189 yards for Oklahoma State. His 15 catches were the second most in a game in Oklahoma State history. Oklahoma State entered the day in a four-way tie for second place in the conference.,

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Tahj Brooks ran for a career-high 182 yards while powering a game-clinching drive after E’Maurion Banks blocked a potential tying extra-point kick, and Texas Tech rallied for a 24-23 victory over UCF. Behren Morton threw for two touchdowns in the home finale as the Red Raiders won their third consecutive game in a battle for bowl eligibility. The Knights are making their Big 12 debut and will have to win at home against Houston next weekend to secure an eighth consecutive season of bowl eligibility. UCF couldn't hold a 14-0 lead.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Josh Hoover threw for 412 yards with two touchdowns to tight end Jared Wiley, Emani Bailey had two long TD runs and TCU snapped a three-game losing streak with a 42-17 victory over instate rival Baylor. Wiley was wide open for catch-and-run scores of 81 and 28 yards for the 5-6 Horned Frogs. He had seven catches for 178 yards. Hoover completed 24 of 29 passes for his fourth game with at least 300 yards in five starts since taking over for injured Chandler Morris. Hoover also had his first rushing touchdown. Baylor lost its fourth game in a row to drop to 3-8.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Freshman Jahiem White rushed for a season-high 204 yards, Garrett Greene ran for a career-high 154 and the pair combined for five touchdowns in West Virginia's 42-21 win over Cincinnati. West Virginia turned a matchup of two of the Big 12's top rushing teams into a one-sided affair early. The Mountaineers' seven wins are the most in a season under fifth-year coach Neal Brown. West Virginia piled up 424 yards on the ground. Greene had three touchdown runs and threw a 75-yard scoring pass to White, who also had a short TD run.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Michael Penix Jr. threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, and No. 5 Washington remained undefeated and clinched a spot in the Pac-12 championship game with a 22-20 victory over No. 10 Oregon State on Saturday. It was the final Pac-12 game at Reser Stadium as the conference currently stands. The Pac-12 collapsed over the summer, leaving Oregon State and Washington State as the lone remaining teams. Rome Odunze caught seven passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns for the Huskies, who have won 18 straight games.

(AP) — Blake Corum scored twice in the first half, Mike Sainristil intercepted two passes, and No. 2 Michigan became the first college football program to win 1,000 games, beating Maryland 31-24. The Wolverines played again without suspended coach Jim Harbaugh, who will also be away from the sideline for next weekend’s showdown against No. 3 Ohio State. Maryland rallied from a 23-3 second-quarter deficit and several chances to take the lead. HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — Kaedin Robinson barely broke the goal line with the football before it squirted out of his hands, scoring the winning touchdown in overtime as Appalachian State beat previously unbeaten and 18th-ranked James Madison 26-23. James Madison jumped ahead in overtime when Camden Wise booted a 25-yard field goal, giving the Dukes a 23-20 lead. But on third down from the 8 yard line, Appalachian State’s Joey Aguilar tossed a strike to Robinson, who made the catch at the 5 and broke two tackles before stepping on the goal line for the winning TD just before losing the ball. The loss ended James Madison 13-game winning streak.

UNDATED (AP) — This season college football fans have been told it’s Ohio against the World, Michigan vs. Everybody, Oregon vs. Them, etc. etc. With just two weeks before College Football Playoff selection Sunday, it is actually Georgia against the field. A week after toying with Mississippi at home in what was a top-10 matchup on paper only, the Bulldogs tore up No. 21 Tennessee on the road Saturday for their 28th straight victory. With the playoff approaching, there are nine teams that can consider themselves contenders. Only a few of them would even have a shot to beat the Bulldogs.

UNDATED (AP) — Even before Joe Burrow’s season-ending wrist injury was announced, the Cincinnati Bengals already were facing a challenging road in trying to get back to the playoffs for a third straight season. Without Burrow, that might be too big of a hill to climb. Thursday night’s 34-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens evened the Bengals' record at 5-5. When Jake Browning walks into the complex on Monday to begin preparations for the Nov. 26 game against Pittsburgh, it will be for a team that is only one game out of wild-card spot. However, the Bengals are an AFC-worst 1-5 in conference games and are winless in their three division matchups. Cincinnati’s six remaining opponents — it plays the Steelers twice — are .500 or better.

ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Braves jettisoned two more arbitration-eligible players in two separate trades with Kansas City on Friday, sending right-handers Kyle Wright and Nick Anderson to the Royals.

Atlanta acquired right-hander Jackson Kowar in the Wright deal. Anderson was traded for $100,000.

A day earlier, Atlanta dealt pitcher Mike Soroka and infielder Nicky Lopez to the Chicago White Sox along with pitchers Jared Shuster and Riley Gowens and infielder Braden Shewmake for left-handed reliever Aaron Bummer.

The 28-year-old Wright is expected to miss the 2024 season after he had surgery in October to repair a torn capsule in his pitching shoulder. He went 1-3 with a 6.97 ERA in nine games with Atlanta this year.

Wright had a breakout performance in 2022, going 21-5 with a 3.19 ERA in 30 starts. He became the first Braves pitcher to lead the majors in wins since Tom Glavine in 2000.

Kowar was selected by Kansas City in the first round of the 2018 amateur draft. He went 2-0 with a 6.43 ERA in 23 big league games this year.

The 33-year-old Anderson was 4-0 with one save and a 3.06 ERA in 35 appearances for Atlanta this year. He missed the 2022 season following surgery on Oct. 27, 2021, to repair a torn right UCL.

Anderson is 11-6 with a 2.93 ERA in 128 relief appearances over four seasons for Miami (2019), Tampa Bay (2019-21) and the Braves. He won Game 2 of the 2020 World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Left-hander Austin Cox was designated for assignment by the Royals to open a roster spot. The 26-year-old was 0-1 with a 4.54 ERA in three starts and 21 relief appearances for the Royals, making his big league debut on May 4.

Bummer has a $5.5 million salary next year in the final guaranteed season of a $16 million, five-year deal that includes team options at $7.25 million for 2025 and $7.5 million for 2026. Each option carries a $1.25 million buyout.

Kansas City also agreed to a $1.1 million, one-year contract with left-hander Josh Taylor and declined to offer contracts to right-hander Josh Staumont, left-hander Austin Cox, outfielder Diego Hernandez and catcher Logan Porter, allowing them to become free agents.

NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Tylor Perry scored five of his 24 points and David N'Guessan all six of his in overtime as Kansas State pulled out a 73-70 victory over Providence in the Bahamas Championship on Friday.

Perry, a North Texas transfer, was fouled in the opening seconds of overtime and made all three free throws. N'Guessan, scoreless in his 23 minutes of regulation, added a putback and the Wildcats never trailed in the extra period.

The Friars scored the next four points, but Creighton transfer Arthur Kaluma hit a 3-pointer and N'Guessan followed with two layups before Perry and Dai Dai Ames made two free throws each in the final minute to hold off the Friars, who scored twice in the last seven seconds.

Kansas State edges Providence 73-70 in overtime in Bahamas

In 2019, the Hoisington High School football team was unbeaten before a last-second loss in the sub-state round at Norton. In 2020, the Cards took a 12-0 record into the state championship game where they fell 27-20 to Rossville. Hoisington fans are hoping the third time is a charm. With a 30-21 win at Norton Friday night, the Cardinals will take a 12-0 record into next Saturday's Class 2A State Championship game against reigning champion and unbeaten Nemaha Central.

Four years ago, the Cards were an offensive juggernaut all season, including a 38-7 win against Norton during the regular season. That changed on a cold, snowy substate night when the Bluejays prevailed 10-8. History tried to rear its head Friday night as Norton led 7-0 in the final 30 seconds of the first half before Jason Robinson picked off an Eli Jones pass and returned it 78 yards to the house as the first-half expired. The teams hit the half tied 7-7.

That momentum carried over into the third quarter. Junior Brady Reif laid the boom on the Norton kick returner, and the Cardinal defense forced a quick punt. The Cards marched 58 yards down field before Tony Moore found Robinson in the end zone on a 12-yard strike to pull ahead 14-7.

&nbsp; "I think we flipped a switch," said Moore. "Our O-line was struggling. I was struggling. I wasn't anywhere I needed to be. I had to look at myself in the mirror and ask myself if I'm really doing everything I can. The very first play, Brady (Reif) smacked someone on the kickoff. That sets the tone. That gets everyone juiced. The offense just started clicking. We started finding gaps."

Norton used a 65-yard completion a few plays later to even the score at 14 with 3:36 to play in the third. Hoisington came up with its own quick answer via a 3-yard touchdown pass from Moore to Mason Alderdice on the final play of the third quarter.

The Bluejays converted big third downs all night, including two on their next drive to tied the game at 21 with 7:09 remaining. The Cards needed just three plays to score again, including a 32-yard run from Moore, and a 23-yard touchdown run from Teron Kraft. Sophomore Taylen Morales had made his first three point-after tries but missed the fourth to keep the door open for more Norton heroics.

Alderdice put a stop to that by picking off a Jones pass with 6:02 on the clock. The Cardinals were able to erase nearly five minutes and survived a fumble but could not punch it in. With 1:19 left, Morales did not miss an opportunity to redeem himself, booting through a 20-yard field goal to all but secure the win at 30-21. Norton put together a drive before Kraft and CJ Bryant teamed up for a sack that helped run out the clock.

Jones entered the game with more than 2,000 passing yards and nearly 800 rushing yards. He threw for 249 yards on 18-of-31 passing with two interceptions and a touchdown. He also led the Bluejay ground attack with 86 yards and two scores on 17 carries. Norton ends its season at 11-1.

Moore struggled to complete just two passes for 24 yards in the first half, and the Cards managed just 59 rushing yards in the first two quarters. Moore completed all six throws in the second half to finish with 84 yards on 8-of-16 passing. He added 165 yards on 20 carries. Kraft added 45 yards on his 12 attempts. Robinson led the receivers with 46 yards and a touchdown on three receptions.

Hoisington moves to 12-0 and for a third-straight week, will face an unbeaten in the state championship game scheduled for 1 p.m. next Saturday at Salina's USD 305 District Stadium outside Salina Central High School.

"They were two powerhouses," Moore of the last two opponents. "Southeast of Saline has incredible talent and Norton has incredible size. I think we really persevered these last two weeks. We're not the biggest group but we've shown we have the biggest heart."&nbsp;

Six members of the 19th ranked Barton Community College volleyball team were recently named to the released All-KJCCC/Region VI selection list.

Phoebe Reyes led the selections in being named both the Freshman of the Year and the Most Valuable Player with Megan Besecker completing Barton's sweep of the top awards in being named the Coach of the Year.

Joining Reyes on the First Team were Kassidy Nixon and Anna Wierzbicki with Clara Lindstrom, the lone sophomore on the list, landing on the Second Team while Elena Stankovic and Mya Thompson garnering Honorable Mention distinction.

The selections led by first-year Head Coach Besecker won the league title with a 13-3 record in concluding the season in the Region VI/Plains District semifinals at 25-6.

Reyes becomes the program's first freshman of the year award winner and player of the year recipient since Maria Santos and Mylena Testoni each received the distinction respectively in the 2020 season.

The freshman out of the Dominican Republic ranked 4th in kills per set (3.46) and attack percentage (.275) in three rotations of the Cougars' 6-2 offensive set leading Barton to the top conference spot of kills per set and second in attack percentage. Posting double-digit kills in 20 of Barton's 31 matches, fourteen of those came against conference opponents including a career high 21 against Seward County. Earning the Week 6 Offensive Player of the Week, defensively Reyes was also effective with 22 matches of two or more blocks in averaging .49 per set in league play helping Barton's rank in the top three teams of blocks per set.

Coach Besecker built the 2023 Cougars with a talented group of freshmen to compliment a limited number of returning starters. Picked 8th in the pre-season coaches poll, Besecker led a squad to Barton's first league title since 2011. Concluding the conference slate at 13-3 and a two game cushion of the lead, Besecker's squad won twelve straight KJCCC matches including seven in straight sets. The team's bid to add a Region/District fell short in the semifinals to conclude the season at 25-6.

The 5'9" redshirt freshman outside hitter from Claflin, Kansas, tied for the team lead with nine double-double performances, averaging a squad second best 2.41 kills and 2.94 digs per set. The KJCCC's Week 3 Player of the Week recorded ten matches with double-digit kills, including a career high 18 coming late in the season at Colby, and had nineteen matches of double-digit digs in posting a high of 18 digs twice.

The 5'11" middle blocker was at the top of the stat chart during league play with 1.22 blocks per set on 13 solo and 58 assisted blocks. A native of Chapadao do Ceu, Goiás, Brazil, Wierzbicki had twenty matches of three or more blocks, thirteen of those of five or more, with collegiate highs of nine coming in consecutive matches. Attacking the middle at a .249 efficiency, Wierzbicki posted a collegiate high 13 kills at Hutchinson followed by her first 9 block performance three days later in Garden City to earn the conference's Week 7 Player of the Week honor.

The 5'6" sophomore libero anchored the backline at 4.03 digs per set. Recording 435 total digs on the season, the Hiawatha, Kansas, native left her mark in the 14th slot of the program's all-time best single season achievement. Offensively Lindstrom scored a team second best 35 service aces and a third best 104 assists.

Elena Stankovic – Honorable Mention

The Cougars' 6-2 offensive set was led by Stankovic' 5.52 assists per set. The 5'10" native of Cajetina, Serbia, was joined by Maurin Reyes' 4.58 assists in the scheme to combine for a league best 10.10 per set average. Recording seven double-doubles on the year, Stankovic had 26 matches of 15 or more assists, thirteen over 20 assists with a career high 34 coming at Cloud County, and a career high 18 digs coming late in the season at Colby.

Mya Thompson – Honorable Mention

The 5'11" opposite hitter out of Hutchinson, Kansas, ranked third on the squad at 2.21 kills per set helping the Cougars lead the league in the category. Having twelve matches of double-digit kills, seven in conference play including a collegiate high 15 coming against Seward County, Thompson also helped the squad as one of the best blocking teams with contributing .53 per set with a high of six coming at Garden City.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Right-hander Taylor Clarke will earn $1.25 million in his one-year contract with the Kansas City Royals that avoided salary arbitration.

The 30-year-old was 3-6 with a 5.95 ERA in two starts and 56 relief appearances last season, when he earned $1.15 million.

Clarke is 15-15 with a 5.03 ERA in five seasons with Arizona (2019-21) and Kansas City (2022-23).

Myles Thompson of the 9th ranked Barton Community College men's basketball team has been named the KJCCC's Week Two Player of the Week.

Thompson averaged a 17 point, 11 rebound double-double week leading the Cougars to a trio of victories last week including a pair in the Best Western Angus Inn/Cougar Booster Club Classic.

Putting together a 22 point, 11 rebound effort in twenty-one minutes of court time on Monday versus the junior varsity squad from McPherson College, the Hutchinson sophomore just missed a double-double with 14 points and 9 rebounds Friday against NOC-Tonkawa before posting a 17 point, 13 rebound performance in seventeen minutes Saturday against NOC-Enid in closing out Barton's victories on the week.

The Cougars improved to 6-0 following this most recent Tuesday as Thompson added a 19 point, 10 rebound effort for his 3rd double-double of the year lifting Barton to victory at North Platte Community College.

Barton's Thompson named KJCCC Week Two Player of the Week

CONWAY, S.C. – Behind a career-high 20 points from Xavier Bell, Wichita State won its opening game of the Myrtle Beach Invitational, 86-77, over Coastal Carolina Thursday night.

Wichita State (4-0) advances to the Myrtle Beach Invitational semifinals where they will face the winner of Furman and Liberty Friday at 8 p.m. CDT on ESPNU. The Shockers are 4-0 for the 25th time in school history.

Bell went for a career-high 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting, while also grabbing seven boards and dishing five dimes. His seven rebounds were also a career best and his five assists tied a career high.

In total, five Shockers finished in double figures. Kenny Pohto scored all 16 of his points after halftime to go with eight rebounds. Dalen Ridgnal poured in 15 off the bench on 6-of-9 shooting and 3-of-6 from long range. Colby Rogers dished out a career-high six assists to go with 15 points.

The Shockers committed only seven turnovers and knocked down a season-high 12 three pointers. Overall, Wichita State shot 45.1 percent from the floor. Coastal Carolina shot 43 percent for the game, and went 10-for-26 from three-point range.

Wichita State scored the game's first seven points only to see Coastal Carolina respond with its own 12-2 run to grab a 12-9 lead 5:42 into the game. With the Chanticleers leading 15-14, Ridgnal ignited the Shocker offense with five straight points on a three-pointer and putback dunk.

Ridgnal would cash in on two more triples in the first half on the way to 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting.

The first half was powered by Bell and Ridgnal, as the duo combined for 25 of the team's 43 first half points. Wichita State would grab a 43-39 lead after 20 minutes.

After a sluggish, scoreless first half, Pohto came out firing. He scored 12 points in the first 6:00 minutes to help Wichita State turn a four-point halftime lead into a 14-point lead with 13:19 to go.

Coastal Carolina, playing on its home court, would not go away. In less than 4:00 minutes of game clock, the Chanticleers pulled with three, 66-63. Over the next three minutes, the two teams traded buckets, keeping the margin at four until Rogers dropped two straight jumpers.

Bell’s Career Night Moves Wichita State to 4-0

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels, the preseason Big 12 player of the year who has been sidelined by a back injury, said Thursday that he intends to return to the Jayhawks next season amid speculation that he could enter the transfer portal.

Daniels emerged as a Heisman Trophy candidate early last season, when he led the long-suffering Jayhawks to a 5-0 start. But he hurt his shoulder in a game against TCU and missed more than a month. Daniels returned in time to lead Kansas against Texas and Kansas State, along with a wild triple-overtime loss to Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl.

Daniels threw for 544 yards and five TDs while running for another score against the Razorbacks.

Rather than his shoulder, though, it has been Daniels' back that has caused problems. It began to bother him during fall camp, forcing Jason Bean to start the opener against Missouri State, before Daniels returned to lead the Jayhawks to wins over Illinois, Nevada and BYU. Then he aggravated his back before a game against Texas on Sept. 30 and has not returned.

“Personally,” Daniels said in a statement, “it has been an incredibly difficult time being away from the game that I love, and not being able to play with my brothers in front of our incredible fans on Saturday. The adversity that I have faced this season will help me come back even stronger when the time is right. Kansas is a very special place to me and I will be back next season."

Daniels would have one year remaining unless he sits out all but one game down the stretch, which would give him the ability to redshirt this season. That would leave him with two more years of eligibility.

Bean has played well in Daniels' place, leading the Jayhawks to a 7-3 record, a 4-3 mark in Big 12 play and the No. 25 ranking in the College Football Playoff. But he also was hurt in last week's game against Texas Tech, forcing former walk-on freshman Cole Ballard to finish the game; the Red Raiders won 16-13 on a field goal in the final minute.

Bean did not practice for Saturday's game against No. 23 Kansas State (7-3, 5-2, No. 21 CFP) early in the week, but Jayhawks offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki took reps on Wednesday. Ballard would start if Bean is unable to go.

Throughout the last six weeks, Jayhawks coach Lance Leipold kept saying that Daniels was day-to-day. But his situation on game days became something of a mystery — he was dressed for one, did not travel for another, and for another game he did not come out of the locker room — and that began the speculation that he might transfer elsewhere.

Daniels shut down those rumors on Thursday.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The storylines are ripe for the choosing when the Philadelphia Eagles visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night.

Favor some good, old-fashioned revenge? The NFC-leading Eagles (8-1) will try to exact some when they visit Arrowhead Stadium just nine months after the AFC-leading Chiefs (7-2) used a second-half rally to beat them in the Super Bowl.

Love seeing some points? Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Chiefs counterpart Patrick Mahomes, the MVP of that memorable February showdown, have you covered. They're the triggers behind two of the league's top 10 offenses.

Hankering for some history? Andy Reid can pass Hank Stram as the winningest Chiefs coach, and become the first to hold that distinction with two different franchises; the other just happens to be Philadelphia.

How about social intrigue, the kind at the intersection of sports and entertainment? Eagles center Jason Kelce and younger brother Travis Kelce will match up one more time. And this time, rumors are flying that pop superstar Taylor Swift, who has been seeing the Chiefs tight end for the past couple of months, could be bringing her parents to meet his for the first time.

“It's going to be a great game. You've got great teams in general,” Mahomes said. “Jalen is a great quarterback but I think just the whole entire team on both sides — two teams that usually find a way to get a win, playing on Monday Night Football in front of the whole world. I think it's going to be a great game.”

Given the circus surrounding it, the game itself almost seems like an afterthought.

One with important ramifications, though.

The teams are coming off a relatively late bye, which has freshened them up for the back half of the season. And while both currently hold the No. 1 seed in their respective conferences, and the lone playoff bye that comes as the reward, the standings are tight enough that the Eagles and Chiefs need to keep winning if they want to earn a postseason week off.

They know that is the easiest way to get back to the game that matters the most.

“Our job is to get prepared for this game,” said Eagles coach Nick Sirianni, who along with Reid could not help but look at video of their Super Bowl showdown this week, and certainly had a much different experience while doing it.

“What happened in the past, happened in the past," Sirianni continued. "We'll learn from our mistakes. We'll get better from the things we did well. But I would be lying if I didn't say, ‘Argh, if this would have happened or that would have happened,’ once in a while. But we're not dwelling on it."

Reid is so proficient at winning after a week off — he is 31-6 after a bye, including the postseason — that many coaches have tried to get some tips from him. But not even Reid can pinpoint the reasons behind his remarkable record, which includes a 13-1 mark during 14 regular seasons in Philadelphia and a 9-3 record in postseason games.

“I get asked that because we've had success,” Reid said, “but we just go play. I don't know. We've had good players.”

While the Chiefs come into the game healthy, the Eagles have had to adapt to some injuries. Defensive back Bradley Roby could be back after missing time with a shoulder strain, linebacker Nakobe Dean went on injured reserve this week after hurting his foot against Dallas, and star tight end Dallas Goedert is out after breaking his forearm in the same game.

“Anytime you lose a player to Dallas Goedert's capabilities, you have to compensate,” Sirianni said, “and it's never just one guy's responsibility to take all the brunt of that work. It'll be by committee.”

The Chiefs are 4-1 in games decided by fewer than 10 points, which falls in line with their ability under Reid to win the close ones. Philadelphia is 5-1 in games decided by a touchdown or less. Both are coming off close wins before their bye with Kansas City beating Miami 21-14 in Germany and Philadelphia beating Dallas 28-23.

Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones, who ended his holdout in Week 1 and promptly had at least one sack in each of his first five games, has been held without a sack since. But Reid defended the All-Pro this week, pointing out that the attention Jones demands has allowed others on the defensive line to make plays.

“I'm going to hit my numbers regardless,” Jones added. “I'm not going to trip over my numbers.”

Travis Kelce spent part of his week off flying to Buenos Aires to watch Swift resume her Eras Tour, and video of the 12-time Grammy winner embracing the Chiefs tight end at the side of the stage blazed across social media. She was due to perform on Sunday night in Brazil, then does not perform again until Nov. 24, making it possible for her to make kickoff.

Swift is a noted Eagles fan, by the way, which is causing some consternation. The hosts of the “Bex and Buster” show on Q102 in Philadelphia have even “been forced to punt” her from their popular playlist until after the game.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Caitlin Clark struggled through a poor shooting performance and No. 2 Iowa failed to score in the last three minutes Thursday night, falling to Kansas State 65-58.

Clark, The Associated Press national player of the week in women’s basketball who swept national player of the year awards and led the Hawkeyes to their first NCAA championship game last season, scored 24 points on 9-for-32 shooting from the field and 2-for-16 sniping from long distance, failing to make her first 3-pointer until just over a minute left in the second quarter.

“There are going to be nights I don't shoot the ball very well,” Clark said. “I don't think I helped myself, not getting to the basket and taking advantage of fouls when I needed to.”

Iowa (3-1), which had been averaging 92 points in its first three games, shot just 36.1% from the field and was 2 for 21 from long distance.

“We have to understand we're not going to shoot the ball great every game, I'm not going to shoot the ball great every game," Clark said. "But we have to find other ways to win.”

Kansas State coach Jeff Mittie said the plan to defend Clark was to throw “waves” of players at her.

“We weren't going to guard her with one player,” Mittie said.
