LSU is unranked for the first time in two years.

The unbeaten Ducks are atop the AP Top 25 for the fifth straight week, passing Texas as the No. 1 team for the most polls this season. They received all 62 first-place votes for the third week in a row after scoring their fewest points in 37 games in the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/oregon-wisconsin-score-top-25-50b912ed0afc2d748ada9f17cd034965">16-13 win over Wisconsin.</a>

Oregon also holds the top spot in the&nbsp;<a href="https://collegefootballplayoff.com/rankings.aspx">College Football Playoff rankings</a>&nbsp;and will attempt to complete its first perfect regular season since 2010 when it hosts Washington in two weeks.

The Ducks were followed in the AP poll by No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Penn State and No. 5 Indiana for the second straight week. The top five could be due for a shakeup this week with Indiana visiting Ohio State for one of the most anticipated games of the season.

Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee rounded out the top 10. Georgia got a three-rung promotion to No. 8 with its&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/tennessee-georgia-score-top-25-85895b68c4cbdaf317de6239a4e4663e">31-17 win over Tennessee.</a>

Mississippi, which was idle Saturday, rose one spot and Tennessee dropped four but stayed in the top 10.

The Big Ten again held four of the top five spots, and the Southeastern Conference had five of the top 10.

BYU's&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-byu-score-top-25-b4defe085ed8458d8c7668735110f754">17-13 home loss to Kansas</a>&nbsp;dropped the Cougars from No. 7 to No. 14 and put them in a first-place tie with Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes in the Big 12. The Buffs are No. 16.

A season-high four Group of Five teams are in the Top 25. No. 12 Boise State remains the highest ranked of those programs and first in line for the guaranteed playoff spot. The Barton Community College women's basketball team wrapped up play in the weekend's Best Western/Booster Club Classic posting a decisive 98-42 Saturday victory over the developmental squad from Kansas Wesleyan University.

The pair of Classic victories improves Barton to 4-2 on the season headed into Wednesday's 5:30 p.m. conference opener hosting top ranked Hutchinson Community College. The Blue Dragons capped its two-days in the Barton Gym with an 81-59 victory over Redlands Community College improving to 6-0 on the year.

Barton posted over 27 points in each of the first three quarters as all thirteen Cougars played more than nine minutes in making scoreline contributions in what would be a 62-point margin mid-way through the final period.

Multiple career highs were achieved across statistical columns, most notably the 21 point performance by&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="http://www.bartonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2024-25/bios/simpson_brittany_jg44">Brittany Simpson</a>&nbsp;on 80% shooting including 2-of-4 from long distance and tying for the team lead with 5 assists.

Barton improves to 5-0 on the year while Truman searches for its first win of the year against three defeats.

The focus now turns to the rugged KJCCC slate beginning Wednesday in hosting 15th ranked Hutchinson Community College in a 7:30 p.m. tip. The Blue Dragons make the return trip to the Barton Gym after going 1-1 in the Classic following a 75-69 loss to Northern Oklahoma College-Enid in slipping to 4-2 on the year. The Jets, who pushed Barton in Friday's loss, also completes the Classic splitting contests in moving their record to 5-2.

Kansas upsets No. 7 BYU 17-13, handing the Cougars their first loss of the season

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Sam Leavitt threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns, Jordyn Tyson had 12 catches for 176 yards and two of the scores, and Arizona State held off No. 20 Kansas State 24-14 on Saturday night in the Sun Devils' first trip to their new Big 12 rival.

Cam Skattebo returned from an injury to run for 73 yards, and the Sun Devils (8-2, 5-2) built a 21-0 halftime lead, before Kenny Dillingham's team held on for a third straight win to remain in contention for the Big 12 championship game.

“Everybody keeps saying, 'Oh, there's a reason they're winning and it's not because they're good,'” Dillingham said. “That has to bother you. This is the first week I really dove into that. I was pulling things out to show the guys for motivation this week. We really dove into people not believing in the football team, and not believing in the guys, and I think they responded."

Avery Johnson threw for 258 yards with two interceptions and a touchdown run for Kansas State (7-3, 4-3, No. 16 CFP), which had been 4-0 at home this season and 15-3 over the past three. D.J. Giddens ran for 133 yards and Joe Jackson had a TD run.

“I told the guys, “I'm going to take ownership of this on my own,'” Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said. ”The whole program is on me. I didn't do a good enough job with the game plan. I didn't do a good enough job with the players."

The bumbling Wildcats, who turned the ball over three times and failed to get the snap down on two field-goal tries, sure didn't look like a conference title contender that had last week off to prepare for the Sun Devils.

Johnson was picked off on the second play of the game, and Arizona State marched 49 yards with Leavitt hitting Tyson for the touchdown. On the next series, Dylan Edwards and Giddens were stuffed on consecutive carries, giving the Sun Devils the ball back on downs. And on the Wildcats' third series, Jayce Brown fumbled the ball away after a catch.

“Props to our defense for creating takeaways and putting us in a situation where we didn't have to go the length of the field,” Leavitt said. “We just executed on offense.”

Indeed, Arizona State capitalized on all the mistakes. Leavitt found Tyson for the second time from 30 yards out for a 14-0 lead, then hit wide open Chamon Metayer from 16 yards out to make it 21-0 early in the second quarter.

“Momentum is a real thing,” Sun Devils defensive back Xavier Alford said. “We wanted to come in here and make it our place.”

The cacophony of errors continued for the Wildcats: They had a 67-yard TD reception negated when offensive lineman Andrew Leingang blocked too far downfield. Johnson overthrew wide open Ty Bowman on a would-be 69-yard connection. And with first-and-goal at the Arizona State 5, they not only failed to get into the end zone but fumbled away the field-goal snap.

Arizona State headed to halftime serenaded by the sound of Kansas State fans booing their own team.

The Wildcats tried to rally late, beginning with Johnson's touchdown with 2:51 left in the third quarter. They got the ball back and needed just 1:19 to score again and get the 2-point conversion. But the Sun Devils picked up a couple of first downs on their next possession, running enough clock to make Kansas State's comeback bid nearly impossible.

The Wildcats muffed one last field-goal try with just over 2 minutes left that would have made it a one-possession game.

“We're big on clock management. We're big on winning the details of the game,” Dillingham said over the thumping music of the visiting locker room. “When you talk about winning against good football teams, you have to talk about winning the margins.”

Arizona State was picked to finish last in the Big 12 but is very much alive in the title chase. The Sun Devils face seventh-ranked BYU, which along with No. 18 Colorado is ahead of them in the standings, at home next week.

Kansas State's Big 12 title chances essentially ended thanks to two straight dismal halves. The Wildcats allowed Houston to rally from a 19-10 second-half deficit in a 24-19 loss, then dug a first-half hole Saturday night that was far too deep.

Arizona State has a showdown with BYU on Saturday.

Kansas State plays its home finale Saturday against Cincinnati.

DALLAS(AP)— Bela Karolyi, the charismatic if polarizing gymnastics coach who turned young women into champions and the United States into an international power, has died. He was 82.

USA Gymnastics said Karolyi died Friday. No cause of death was given.

Karolyi and wife Martha trained multiple Olympic gold medalists and world champions in the U.S. and Romania, including Nadia Comaneci and Mary Lou Retton.

“A big impact and influence on my life,” Comaneci, who was just 14 when Karolyi coached her to gold for Romania at the 1976 Montreal Olympics,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DCc1ex3pJWU/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==" target="_blank">posted on Instagram</a>.

The Karolyis defected to the United States in 1981 and over the next 30-plus years became a guiding force in American gymnastics, though not without controversy. Bela helped guide Retton — all of 16 — to the Olympic all-around title at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles and memorably helped an injured Kerri Strug off the floor at the 1996 Games in Atlanta after Strug’s vault secured the team gold for the Americans.

Karolyi briefly became the national team coordinator for USA Gymnastics women’s elite program in 1999 and incorporated a semi-centralized system that eventually turned the Americans into the sport’s gold standard. It did not come without a cost. He was pushed out after the 2000 Olympics after several athletes spoke out about his tactics.

It would not be the last time Karolyi was accused of grandstanding and pushing his athletes too far physically and mentally.

During the height of the Larry Nassar scandal in the late 2010s — when the disgraced former USA Gymnastics team doctor was effectively given a life sentence after pleading guilty&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/us-news-ap-top-news-lansing-in-state-wire-north-america-de31f08ab1fe435c88129d64bd1fbee4">to sexually assaulting gymnasts and other athletes</a>&nbsp;with his hands under the guise of medical treatment — over a dozen former gymnasts came forward saying the Karolyis were part of a system&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/0c67e962d7524c87a865d3c468bdd521">that created an oppressive culture</a>&nbsp;that allowed Nassar’s behavior to run unchecked for years.

Still, some of Karolyi’s most famous students were always among his staunchest defenders. When Strug got married, she and Karolyi took a photo recreating their famous scene from the 1996 Olympics, when he carried her onto the medals podium after she vaulted on a badly sprained ankle.

Central Plains 🏈 is moving on to the state semifinals

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The boos from a crowd wanting more action were growing again when Jake Paul dropped his gloves before the final bell, and bowed toward 58-year-old Mike Tyson.

Paying homage to one of the biggest names in boxing history didn't do much for the fans that filled the home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys on Friday night.

Paul won an eight-round unanimous decision over Tyson as the hits didn't match the hype in a fight between the 27-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer and the former heavyweight champion in his first sanctioned pro bout in almost 20 years.

All the hate from the pre-fight buildup was gone, replaced by boos from bewildered fans hoping for more from a fight that drew plenty of questions about its legitimacy long beforehand.

The fight wasn't close on the judge's cards, with one giving Paul an 80-72 edge and the other two calling it 79-73.

“Let’s give it up for Mike,” Paul said in the ring, not getting much response from a crowd that started filing out before the decision was announced. “He’s the greatest to ever do it. I look up to him. I’m inspired by him.”

Tyson came after Paul immediately after the opening bell and landed a couple of quick punches but didn't try much else the rest of the way.

Even fewer rounds than the normal 10 or 12 and two-minute rounds instead of three, along with heavier gloves designed to lessen the power of punches, couldn't do much to generate action.

Paul was more aggressive after the quick burst from Tyson in the opening seconds, but the punching wasn't very efficient. There were quite a few wild swings and misses.

“I was trying to hurt him a little bit,” said Paul, who improved to 11-1. “I was scared he was going to hurt me. I was trying to hurt him. I did my best. I did my best.”

Tyson mostly sat back and waited for Paul to come to him, with a few exceptions. It was quite the contrast to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/katie-taylor-amanda-serrano-fight-a65985c40c86c45546ffe2060b0f70eb">the co-main event</a>, another slugfest between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano in which Taylor kept her undisputed super lightweight championship with another disputed decision.

Paul said he eased up starting about the third round because he thought Tyson was tired and vulnerable.

“I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn't want to hurt somebody that didn't need to be hurt,” Paul said.

It was the first sanctioned fight since 2005 for Tyson, who fought Roy Jones Jr. in a much more entertaining exhibition in 2020. Paul started fighting a little more than four years ago.

“I didn’t prove nothing to anybody, only to myself,” Tyson said when asked what it meant to complete the fight. “I'm not one of those guys that looks to please the world. I'm just happy with what I can do.”

The fight was originally scheduled for July 20 but&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/mike-tyson-postponed-jake-paul-7383b668be4a94f5e6fe9037a84be87c">had to be postponed</a>&nbsp;when Tyson was treated for a stomach ulcer after falling ill on a flight. His record is now 50-7 with 44 knockouts.

Tyson slapped Paul on the face during the weigh-in a night before the fight, and they traded insults in several of the hype events, before and after the postponement.

The hate was long gone by the end of the anticlimactic fight.

“I have so much respect for him,” Paul said. “That violence, war thing between us, like after he slapped me, I wanted to be aggressive and take him down and knock him out and all that stuff. That kind of went away as the rounds went on.”

The fight set a Texas record for combat sports with a gate of nearly $18 million, according to organizers, and Netflix had problems with the feed in the streaming platform's first live combat sports event. Netflix has more than 280 million subscribers globally.

“This is the biggest event,” Paul said. “Over 120 million people on Netflix. We crashed the site.”

Among the celebrities were basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal and former NFL star Rob Gronkowski, along with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis, two foes with Tyson's heyday, greeted him in his locker room before the fight.

Tyson infamously bit Holyfield on the ear in a 1997 bout, and appeared to have one of his gloves in his mouth several times during the Paul bout. He was asked if he had problem with his mouthpiece.

“I have a habit of biting my gloves,” Tyson said. “I have a biting fixation.”

“I've heard about that,” the interview responded.

Mario Barrios retained the WBC welterweight title in a draw with Abel Ramos on the undercard. Barrios was in control early before Ramos dominated the middle rounds. Each had a knockdown in the 12-round bout.

It was the first fight for the 29-year-old Barrios since he was appointed the WBC welterweight champ when Terence Crawford started the process of moving up from the 147-pound class.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–&nbsp; K-State used an efficient night from preseason All-American Ayoka Lee on Thursday night to throttle Creighton, 86-68, at Bramlage Coliseum.

The Wildcats have scored 80 or more points in the first three games of a season for the first time since 2004-05.

Lee led all scorers with 28 points on 13-of-18 shooting in just under 16 minutes of action. The fifth-year senior from Byron, Minnesota, is just 13 points from moving past Nicole Ohlde into second in program history for career points.

Joining Lee in double figures on Thursday evening were seniors Temira Poindexter and Serena Sundell with 12 points each, while senior Kennedy Taylor came off the bench to add 10 points and six rebounds.

Sundell approached a triple-double, as she filled the stat sheet with eight assist and seven rebounds.

Defensively, the K-State held the nation’s top scorer, Lauren Jensen at 27.5 points per game, to just nine points on 4-of-11 shooting.

- K-State (3-0) took control of the first quarter with a 12-5 run to build a 22-9 advantage at the end of the opening frame. Lee scored eight points in the opening quarter, while Jaelyn Glenn buried a pair of three-pointers.
