Alberta Fay Douglas, 86, passed away April 28, 2023, in Great Bend. She was born March 9, 1937, at Bazine, KS, at the family farm home, to Henry J. &amp; Elizabeth (Koch) Foos. She attended Bazine Grade School and graduated from Bazine High School in 1955.

After graduating she moved to Great Bend, KS, where she met and married Gaylon Clayton on April 7, 1957, at Bazine. Gaylon passed away on October 1, 1960, due to a car accident. They had one daughter, Charlotte (Clayton) Myers. She then married John “Max” Douglas on June 17, 1962. He passed away December 18, 2007.

Alberta worked at Schlumberger Well Services, Marlette Mobile Homes, McDonald Tank Company, Social and Rehabilitation Services, KETCH (Kansas Elks Training Center for the Handicapped), Saint Francis Community Services, Great Bend Municipal Court and was co-owner of the Kitchen Cupboard in Great Bend. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and VFW Auxiliary. She was a Camp Fire Girls group leader and Camp Fire Director for Camp Chu-Wa-Ni for many years and dearly loved it. She loved to watch her KU Basketball games and the Kansas City Chiefs play football. Alberta especially enjoyed family dinners and get togethers. The family enjoyed her fried chicken, homemade ice cream and chocolate chip cookies.

Survivors include, her daughter, Charlotte (Clayton) Myers and husband Randy of Great Bend; a son, David Douglas and wife Connie of Cozad, Neb.; stepchildren, Debbie Gartner and husband Frank of Dublin, Calif. and Scott Douglas and wife Carla of Brentwood, Calif.; grandchildren, Nathan Myers and wife Brianna of Hays, Travis Myers of Great Bend, Denton Douglas and wife Sheena of Tecumseh, KS; step grandchildren, Alesha Gartner of Dublin, Calif. and her partner Jorge Barailar and Matthew Gartner of Sacramento, Calif.; great grandchildren, Bentley Douglas and Xander Myers; step great grandchildren, Brayden Barailar and Gavin Gartner; and many nieces and nephews. Surviving siblings are Clarence Foos and wife Ethel of Bazine; and sister in law, Enid Foos of Lincoln, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Gaylon Clayton and Max Douglas; her sister, Helen Schaben; and her brothers, Floyd Foos and Leonard Foos.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 5, 2023, at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, with Pastor Tim Bever presiding. Interment will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to the First United Methodist Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Alberta Fay Douglas, age 86

Charles Edward Disque, 98, died April 28, 2023, at River Bend Senior Living, Great Bend. He was born June 21, 1924, in Claflin, to Adam and Margaret (Radenberg) Disque.

Charles attended country school district #75 and then graduated from Claflin High School in 1943. He served during WWII in the U.S. Army Ordinance Alaska Defense. He was a farmer and a carpenter, farming and doing construction work in Ellsworth and Barton Counties.

Charles was a member of Claflin United Methodist Church, where he had served on the pastor-parish relations committee and was a church historian and delegate. He was also active in the Claflin Methodist Mens Club, the Masonic Lodge #331, the Claflin Housing Board, and the Barton County Historical Society, and was a former Cub Scout Leader and secretary for the Claflin CO-OP Board.

On Sept. 30, 1951, he married Verna Leona Ehly in Claflin. After 68 blessed years together, she died on July 29, 2019.

He is survived by two daughters, Janet Sellens and husband David of Olathe, and Corrine Clark and husband Jim of Hays; two grandchildren, Jaclyn and Derek; and great-granddaughter, Kiran; three brothers, Herman Disque of Stafford, Harvey Disque of Salina, and Walter Disque and wife Joyce of Claflin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers, Martin, Clarence, Marlin, and Edgar Disque, and six sisters, Edna, Grace, and Velma Disque, Mabel Flickinger, Aline Howser, and Leona Welch.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Claflin United Methodist Church, with Pastor Diana Webster presiding. Burial will follow in Claflin Cemetery.

Charles Disque, age 98

Theodore Joseph “Teddy” Jacobs, 66, Goodland, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Goodland Regional Medical Center, Goodland, Kansas.

Teddy was born January 22, 1957, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Melvin A. and Wanda L. (Ochs) Jacobs. He was a resident of Goodland, Kansas, for 30+ years.

He enjoyed participating in Special Olympics, attending county fairs, and craft fairs, camping, and dancing. He especially loved his rocking chair.

Survivors include: three brothers, Melvin G. Jacobs, Great Bend, Kansas, Paul A. Jacobs (Lori), Great Bend, Kansas, and Patrick L. Jacobs (Sally), Rush Center, Kansas; one sister, Diana Lynn Bakeberg (Randy), Gastonia, North Carolina; eight nephews and nieces, Tyson Jacobs (Tami), Aaron Jacobs (Jennifer), Andrew Jacobs (Amanda), Alex Jacobs, Austin Jacobs, Adam Jacobs, Katrina Jacobs, and Megan Jacobs; and seven great nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wayne Jacobs; one sister in law, Clydene Jacobs; and two nieces, Kimberly Jacobs, and Elizabeth Jacobs.

&nbsp; Michael Daniel Scheuerman, 49, died tragically in a vehicle accident on April 25th, 2023. Born in Great Bend, KS on May 1st, 1973 he was the son of Merletta Scheuerman.&nbsp; Michael graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1992. Michael Scheuerman, age 49

Dennis Eugene DeYoung, age 66, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023, at his home.

Dennis was born July 11, 1956, to Stanley Calvin and Betty Jean (Osborn) DeYoung in Plainville, Kansas. He married Diane Elizabeth Geist on August 17, 1984, in Hays, Kansas. She preceded him in death May 2, 2017.

He was a self-employed heavy equipment operator in the land field and oilfield industry. In the late '70s and early '80s, he worked for Pan-Am Construction in Africa, Liberia and Kenya operating heavy equipment. Dennis was a United States Army Veteran, and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, watching the OU Sooners, and especially the LA Rams.

He is survived by a son, Calvin DeYoung of Damar, Kansas; daughter Renee DeYoung, Great Bend, KS; three sisters, Terri (John) Richardson, Clairmont, NC; Janice (Dennis) Craven, Wichita, KS; and Janet (Mike) Bruna, Plainville, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant daughter, Elizabeth, and nephew, Adam Bruna.

Dennis Eugene DeYoung, age 66

Richard E. "Coach" Towers, 92, of Manhattan, passed away on Sunday, April 23rd, 2023, at his home following complications from Multiple Myeloma. He was a retired Athletic Director and Coach.

Richard Ephraim Towers was born in Kansas City, KS on February 10, 1931, the son of the late Mabel Daisy (Stitt) and Guy McKinley Towers. He and Wann Harwood of Manhattan, KS were married on August 9, 1953, in Manhattan at Danforth Chapel. Dick was raised in Olathe, Kansas graduating from Olathe High School in 1949. He was a football and track standout at Kansas State University, receiving bachelor's and master’s degrees in education and administration.

Helping others was a driving force for Coach Towers. He was known for his great storytelling, being the “activities director” for many family gatherings, leading the birthday song at his Vista Coffee Group, and cheering on his golf and fishing buddies. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan.

As an athlete his teammates voted him ”Most Inspirational Player." As a football coach his peers selected him Coach of the Year at the High School, Junior College, and NCAA Division 1 district level.

ROTC took him to Fort Leonard Wood, MO, after graduation from Kansas State. He then began his football coaching career, with stops at Leavenworth High School and Manhattan High School. His 1961 Manhattan High school team was crowned state champions, and these players continue to maintain a special relationship to this day.

His college coaching career took him from KSU to Southern Illinois University and finally Duke University. Athletic administration brought him back to Kansas in 1977 where Dick was assistant superintendent of schools and athletic director in Great Bend. Following that, he returned to his alma mater as athletic director and was instrumental in landing KSU’s first bowl game bid. He finished his career at Iowa State University in athletic administration.

After retirement he and his son Rick developed Sand Creek Self Storage east of Manhattan. During this period Dick was able to focus on enjoying life with his wife Wann, enjoying many fantastic trips, family vacations, fishing adventures and innumerable rounds of golf.

In 1995, Dick won the Senior Golf Championship at Indian Hills Country Club in Mission Hills, Kansas. It was one of his many golfing accomplishments along with a few holes in one.

He valued the wonderful relationship he had with his sisters, children and their spouses, grandchildren, great grandchildren, along with his nieces and nephews. Dick cherished his friendships with colleagues, classmates and former players.

Dick is survived by his wife of 69 years, Wann, two daughters, Betsy (Larry) Shapiro, of Morristown, NJ; Donna Hemingway, of West Branch, Iowa; son, Rick (Sheila)Towers, of Rossville; two sisters, Lillian Partis, of Ottawa, KS; Janiece Towers, of Manhattan; also surviving are seven grandchildren, Becky (Chris) Radich, Jessie Shapiro, Jon Hemingway, Emily (DoHun) Kim, David Towers, Austin (Mandy) Floersch and Emmy (Jason) Sedlacek; and nine great grandchildren. Coach Towers is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Louise Hyer and LaVaun Miller; his brother, Charles Towers, and his son-in-law Paul Hemingway and grandson Loren Hemingway.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the memorial service begins at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 29th, at the First Presbyterian Church. 800 Leavenworth St, with Rev Jason Pittman officiating. Following the service all are invited to attend a tailgate lunch party and storytelling time at the Presby Place located at the church. Carl Tobias&nbsp;“CT”&nbsp;Radke, 87, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday,&nbsp;April 25, 2023, at the Wheatland&nbsp;Nursing Home in Russell.

Carl was born in Hoisington, Kansas, the son of Tobias and Amelia (Bitter) Radke. &nbsp;He grew up in Milberger, Kansas, and graduated&nbsp;from Russell High School in 1954. &nbsp;After&nbsp;high school, he joined the United&nbsp;States&nbsp;Navy serving on the USS&nbsp;Battleship&nbsp;Missouri.&nbsp;&nbsp;After serving his country, he met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Margaret JoAnn Boele on December 26, 1971. &nbsp;From this union Carl and Margaret&nbsp;were blessed with&nbsp;two children, son Michael and daughter Pam.

Carl worked with Radke Implement in Milberger from 1955 to 1965.&nbsp;&nbsp;Later, he&nbsp;worked as owner and operator of his own contract pumper business&nbsp;and also worked&nbsp;as a farmer and rancher. &nbsp;He was a&nbsp;longtime member of the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Milberger&nbsp;and was on the church council. &nbsp;He was also a member of&nbsp;the Russell&nbsp;V.F.W. Post&nbsp;#6240&nbsp;and manager of the rural water district&nbsp;#3. &nbsp;He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, hunting, camping and singing in the church choir. &nbsp;Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving family include his son Michael Radke and wife Jodi of Russell, Kansas and daughter Pam Rowell of Milberger, Kansas; brother Vernon Radke of Russell, Kansas; sisters Norma Koehler of Kansas City, Missouri, and Rosalinda&nbsp;Addington and husband Dale of Topeka, Kansas; 4 grandchildren&nbsp;James Rowell, Kasey Radke, Michaela Suchy and&nbsp;husband&nbsp;Kelton and Jonae Radkeand great granddaughter&nbsp;Layla Suchy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret on January 04, 2010 and sister Doris Steinert.

A celebration of Carl’s life will be held at&nbsp;10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Russell, Kansas. &nbsp;Burial will follow at the Milberger Cemetery in Milberger, Kansas. &nbsp;Military honors will be presented by the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. &nbsp;Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Monday, May 01, 2023, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Monday evening. &nbsp;

Marcella Mae (Hoffman) Flax, "Sally", 88 of Ellis. Kansas passed away April 24, 2023, at Trego County Lemke LTC in WaKeeney.

Sally was born on April 17,1935 in Odin, KS to Michael and Margaret (Feltis) Hoffman. She attended Great Bend High School and graduated in 1953. Sally met the love of her life, Paul Flax, at her cousin’s wedding. They were married on August 24, 1954, in Great Bend. The following August they welcomed a son, Jerome, and the following fall, a daughter, Julia. Having to move many times with the railroad, Sally and Paul always returned to Ellis, calling it home. They were married for 53 years before Paul's passing in 2007.

Sally was always ready to take a vacation or bus trip with an occasional stop at the casinos. Her travels allowed her to see much of the United States and some European Countries. She enjoyed morning coffee with the ladies, playing bingo, bridge or pinochle with family and friends. But one of her greatest joys was being with her grandchildren. She was a member of St Mary's Church and the D of I in Ellis.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul; Son, Jerome; sisters Mercedes Huslig (Arthur), Anna Koester (Joseph,) Dolores Schneweis (Bernard) and Sister Mary Lawrence.

She is survived by a daughter Julia Hillman, WaKeeney; six grandchildren, Angela Flax (Geoff Martin) Olathe; Dustin Mattheyer (Mara) Ellis; Audrey Bates (Noel) Ellis; Mathew Flax (Amanda Armstrong) Salina; Jessica Cooper (Bryan) Topeka; and Preston Mattheyer (Jamie) WaKeeney; fifteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.

Robert “Bob” William Willesden, II, 75, passed away April 25, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born July 9, 1947, in Queens, New York, to Robert William Willesden and Lillian Elizabeth (Alger) Willesden. He married Dianne (Dolezal) Ewing June 23, 1979, in Great Bend.

A long time Great Bend resident, Bob retired as a Lt. Disciplinarian Administrator in 2014, after 28 faithful years of service, at Larned Correctional Facility. Previously, he had been employed as a machinist and welder for 11 years in the oilfield industry, and through the course of many years, he demonstrated his skill as a horse farrier. Bob was a member of Faith Community Church, was a motorcycle enthusiast and marksman, enjoyed four-wheeling, and enjoyed watching western and action movies, as well as the History Channel, Tucker Carlson Tonight, and other current political news.

Survivors include, his wife, Dianne Willesden of the home; two sons, Robert W. Willesden, III, and wife Debbie of Hoisington and Brian Ewing of Great Bend; three daughters, Tiffany Nily and husband David of Great Bend, Aimee Farris and husband Bill of East Troy, Wisc. And Brandy Gaddis and husband Mark of Wichita; a brother, George Gorsline, Jr. and wife Debbie of Gulfport, Miss.; two sisters, Edith Barton of Topeka and Joyce Burnham and husband Mike of Great Bend; a sister-in-law, Evyonne Willesden of Fort Worth, Tex.; sixteen grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Willesden; his mother and stepfather, Lillian and George Gorsline; and a brother, Joseph Willesden.

Robert 'Bob' Willesden II, age 75

Robert Ray LaRue, 83, passed away April 23, 2023 at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born November 16, 1939 in Portageville, Missouri, the son of William Bryant LaRue and Mabel Maxine Hudgens LaRue.

Moving to Larned in 2015, he was a Billing/Accounting Clerk for an independent oil company. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, volunteered at the movie theatre and Gateway Medical Center. He was very active at his church and was a Boy Scout Leader in Granite City, Illinois.

On June 19, 1961 he married Patricia June Barunica at Granite City, Illinois; she survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Christine (William Chapman) LaRue, Larned, Cheryl LaRue, Granite City, Illinois; two sons, Robert (Jasmin) LaRue, Elkgrove Village, Illinois, Walter LaRue, Ferguson, Missouri; sister, Shirley Kellerman; brother, Donald LaRue; and two grandchildren, Joshua LaRue and Justin LaRue.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Dorothy Patillo, Juanita Downey, Gladys Eurene Phillips, Betty Winchester, and Aline Buie; two brothers, William LaRue and Herman Eugene Mitchell.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2023 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with Father Bernard Felix presiding.

Katie Sue Haag, 70, of Hays, died Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, after the results of a fall at her home.,

She was born on July 3, 1952, in Abilene, Kansas, the daughter of Vernon and Eunice Steele Witwer. Katie graduated from Abilene High School in 1970 and later attended Fort Hays State University where she met Dale Kent Haag. They were married on January 15, 1973 in Abilene.&nbsp;

Katie and Dale returned to Hays in 1983 where she was a Supervisor at the ALCO Store for 20 years and a Co-Manager at Tandy’s Hallmark for 10 years.

While in college, Katie was a member of Tri Sigma, in recent years she enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Ladies and having coffee with her friends. You could always find Katie on the phone with either family or friends.&nbsp;

Please remember Katie each time you are drinking a Starbucks coffee or listening to a George Strait song.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Dale of the home in Hays; sons Jonathan Haag and wife Peggy of Great Bend, Jason Haag of Orlando, Fla., and James Haag of Alexandria, Va.; brothers Lee Witwer and wife Bev of Iowa City, Iowa and Wayne Witwer and wife Mary Katherine of San Antonio, Tx.; sister Karen Courtney and husband Lynn of Ft. Katie Sue Haag, age 70

Frank N. Blodgett, 84, passed peacefully, after a short illness, surrounded by family on Saturday, April 22, 2023.&nbsp;&nbsp;Frank was born March 2, 1939, in Great Bend, to Kenneth R. and Evelyn G. Blodgett.&nbsp; Frank lived in Claflin until his family moved to Hutchinson when he was a young boy.&nbsp;&nbsp; He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1957, and attended Hutchinson Community College and Kansas State University.&nbsp;

Frank married Sara Sue Bowles on November 24, 1962, in Hutchinson. After marriage, Frank and Sara moved to Frank’s farm in Arlington, where they raised their three daughters and lived for 55 years before retiring and moving to Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Frank is survived by: his wife of almost 61 years, Sara; daughters, Sara Weathers (Terry), Carrie Venezia, and Molly Williams (Michael), all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Emily Reed (Tyler) of Great Bend, Erin Givens (Kassidy), Lane Williams, and Lexi Williams, all of Hutchinson; and three great- grandchildren, Cooper and Cohen Givens and Jensen Reed.

&nbsp;As a young farmer, Frank was given an award for his efforts in soil conservation.&nbsp;&nbsp;Later in life, he served on the Reno County Conservation Board for twelve years. After retiring from farming, Frank followed in his father’s footsteps and became a realtor and worked for Oswald Real Estate for many years.

&nbsp;Frank was a true family man and always a good friend.&nbsp;&nbsp;He treasured spending time with his family and special friends in the mountains of New Mexico. He enjoyed shooting trap with family and his fishing trips with “the guys”.&nbsp;&nbsp;Frank’s big heart touched the lives of many.

&nbsp;Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023, at First Mennonite Church, 52 Rambler Road, Hutchinson, with Pastor Tonya Ramer Wenger officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;Inurnment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.&nbsp;&nbsp;Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 9:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp;&nbsp;Cremation has taken place.

Blodgett, 84, passed peacefully, after a short illness, surrounded by family on Saturday, April 22, 2023.&nbsp;&nbsp;Frank was born March 2, 1939, in Great Bend, to Kenneth R. and Evelyn G. Blodgett.&nbsp; Frank lived in Claflin until his family moved to Hutchinson when he was a young boy.&nbsp;&nbsp; He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1957, and attended Hutchinson Community College and Kansas State University.&nbsp;Frank married Sara Sue Bowles on November 24, 1962, in Hutchinson. After marriage, Frank and Sara moved to Frank’s farm in Arlington, where they raised their three daughters and lived for 55 years before retiring and moving to Hutchinson.&nbsp;Frank is survived by: his wife of almost 61 years, Sara; daughters, Sara Weathers (Terry), Carrie Venezia, and Molly Williams (Michael), all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Emily Reed (Tyler) of Great Bend, Erin Givens (Kassidy), Lane Williams, and Lexi Williams, all of Hutchinson; and three great- grandchildren, Cooper and Cohen Givens and Jensen Reed.&nbsp;As a young farmer, Frank was given an award for his efforts in soil conservation.&nbsp;&nbsp;Later in life, he served on the Reno County Conservation Board for twelve years. After retiring from farming, Frank followed in his father’s footsteps and became a realtor and worked for Oswald Real Estate for many years.&nbsp;Frank was a true family man and always a good friend.&nbsp;&nbsp;He treasured spending time with his family and special friends in the mountains of New Mexico. Shelly Lynn VanWinkle, 58, passed away April 20, 2023, at her home in Newton, Kan. She was born October 9, 1964, in Wichita, Kan., to Conrad &amp; Wanda (Vickery) Richey. She married William VanWinkle April 24, 1999, in Wichita, Kan.

Shelly moved to Newton in 2016, from Great Bend, Kan. She was the scale master for the Barton County Landfill then Harvey County Landfill. Shelly had many other certifications as well, like her CDL. She loved getting her nails done and attending family get togethers.

Survivors include, her husband, William “Kent” VanWinkle of the home; two sons, Kevin Richey and wife, Sarah of Wichita, Kan., and Nicholas Thomas of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; stepdaughter, Darline VanWinkle of Springfield, Mo.; four grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Konnor Richey, Ivy Peterson, and Arianna Jackson; two brothers, Kenny Richey and wife, Janet, and Brian Richey and wife, Chris, all of Wichita, Kan.; and three sisters, Evelyn Cheek and husband, Bill, Linda Diggs and husband, Bill, and Connie Wiss, all of Wichita, Kan.

She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Thomas; stepdaughter, Shawnda VanWinkle; her parents; two brothers, Gerald and Darrell Richey; and a brother-in-law, Doug Wiss.

Shelly VanWinkle, age 58

Betty Ann Byers, 89, passed away on April 19, 2023, at Azria Health Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kan. She was born on June 1, 1933, in Sayre, Okla., to Sanders and Wynona (Jackson) Titsworth. On September 11, 1953, she married Ray Lee Byers in Clayton, N.M. He passed on April 29, 1998.

A long time Great Bend resident, Betty worked as a cook, most recently, for American Legion Argonne Post 180, previously working for Shaney’s, Ralph Wallace and V.F.W. Post #3111. She was of the Christian faith and was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed cooking and cake decorating, crafts, silk flower arranging and was a voracious reader. She will also be remembered for the love she had for her Boxers.

Survivors include a son, Steven (Karma) Byers of Great Bend, Kan.; two daughters, Tresa (Ken) Mayfield of Bennington, Kan. and Lee Ann Byers (Bert Esfeld) of Great Bend, Kan.; four grandchildren, Ray Byers, Jessica (Spencer) Unruh, Charles (Alexandra) Mayfield, Jamie (Bryant) Lovin; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janell Fisher of Branson, Mo., and Sandra Schneweis of Beaver, Kan. She is preceded in death by her husband; a grandson, Ryan Byers; her parents; two brothers, W.C. and Vernon Titsworth; two sisters, Clara Titsworth and Virgina Fuqua; and a half sister, Laquita Borg.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2023, at Great Bend Cemetery with Pastor Adam Wutka presiding. Memorials have been designated to Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Betty Ann Byers, age 89

Connie Christine Wharton, 71, of Clay Center, passed away Monday, April 17, 2023, at her residence.

She was born on November 4, 1951, in La Crosse the daughter of Harold Dean and Mary Jane (Johnson) Dalton.

On June 6, 1971, in Bison, she married Lyle Douglas Wharton.&nbsp; He survives of the home.

Connie worked as a bookkeeper in accounting for department and hardware stores.&nbsp; She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Clay Center and Job’s Daughters International.&nbsp; She was an avid sewer and reader and enjoyed traveling.&nbsp; She loved spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Staci Smith of Houston, Texas and Stephanie Lagerman and husband Todd of Riley; two grandchildren, Lily and Logan Lagerman of Riley; two brothers, Jerry Dalton and wife Rhonda of Wichita and Robert Dalton and wife Mary of Bison, and one sister, Lonnie Call of Arlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Terry Dalton and Jimmy Dalton, and one sister, Norma Giesick.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2023,&nbsp; at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating.

Geraldine Ann (Bousser) Menges, 89, passed away in Ellinwood, KS on April 18th, 2023. Born in Wichita, KS on August 1st, 1933 she was the daughter of Gardy L. and Mabel R. (Downey) Bousser. A longtime Ellinwood resident Geraldine married Gerald F. Menges on October 8th, 1951 at St. Joseph Cathedral in Wichita, KS.&nbsp; In addition to taking care of a household with 9 children Geraldine was owner of Jerry's Burger house (Great Bend), and Menges rental/fireworks.&nbsp;She also did the books for Menges electric, worked as a nurses aid, and waitress.&nbsp;

Memberships include St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar Society, Ellinwood City Council, American Legion Aux. Club, Daughters of Isabella regent, and State regent.&nbsp;

Survivors include 6 children, Mary (David) Tudor, Margaret Ferguson, Mark (Tracy) Menges, Melinda Adams, Michelle (Donavon) Jones, Michel (Tara) Menges, 27 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren. Geraldine was preceded in death by husband, Gerald Frances Menges; sister, Barbara Harris; sons, Michael and Matthew Menges; daughter, Millie Menges; granddaughter, Monika Menges; grandson, Jeremy Adams; and great-great-granddaughter, Maleah Menges.&nbsp;

Funeral mass will take place 10:00 AM, Friday, April 21st at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood with Father Terrance Klein officiating. Geraldine (Bousser) Menges, age 89

Flora Mae Weigel, 90, passed away on April 17, 2023, at Hays Medical Center, Hays. She was born on July 17, 1932, in Walker, to Anselm “Lefty” Braun and Anna Marie Braun. On July 17, 1954, she married Robert Leo Weigel in Walker. He passed on March 9, 2001.

A long-time Great Bend resident, Flora was a dedicated homemaker. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima, Altar Society and helped with the Adoration Chapel. Flora Mae enjoyed spending time with her family, especially watching her grandchildren’s activities.

Survivors include two sons, Robert “Bob” (Doris) Weigel of Great Bend,&nbsp; and Brian Weigel of Salina; two daughters, Pam Hitz and Michelle (Eric) Moore, both of Great Bend; five grandchildren, Tyler (Brooke) Weigel, Jocelyn Weigel (Zac), Jessica Walters, Esten Moore and Braylon Moore; and two great-grandchildren, Oren Talukdar and Bobby Troughton. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Donald Braun; and two infant sisters, Darlene and Lorine Braun.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, with Altar Society rosary at 4 p.m., family receiving guests from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and vigil service at 7 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Eusebio Levya Hernandez, 56, passed away on April 16, 2023, at Hays Medical Center, Hays. He was born on Sept. 6, 1966, in Los Alamos de san Antonio municipio Manuel Benavidez, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Rosendo Leyva Hernandez and Antonia Hernandez Lujan. In 1986, he married Josefina Madrid Leyva in Mexico.

A Great Bend resident for 26 years coming from Mexico, Eusebio worked in the construction industry. He was an extremely loving man and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially with his wife.

Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Christian Leyva of Great Bend; two daughters, Melisa (Juan Victor Ramirez) Leyva and Julissa Leyva, both of Great Bend; four grandchildren, Yulisa Sanchez, Rusbael Sanchez, Jose Manuel Sanchez, and Victor Angel Sanchez; his parents; and three brothers, Cosme, Guadalupe, and Bernabe Leyva.

Eusebio Hernandez, age 56

Janis Elouise Brack, 77, passed away April 14, 2023, at the University of Kansas Health System – Great Bend Campus. She was born December 22, 1945, at Hoisington, to Bryan and Sadie (Kaufman) Stalcup.

A lifetime area resident, Janis was a homemaker and managed Stop 2 Shop in Hoisington for many years. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, traveling, puzzles, and the challenge of a good crossword puzzle. Janis especially loved spending time with her family.

Duane&nbsp;G.&nbsp;Schwab&nbsp;"Schwabie", 90, passed away at Hospice House in Hutchinson, KS on Apr. 15th surrounded by loved ones. Born on Apr. 1st, 1933 in La Crosse, KS he was the son of Henry &amp; Helen (Black) Schwab. Duane grew up in Lacrosse graduating from High School in 1952 where he excelled in athletics receiving many offers to further his sports career. He decided to serve in the US Navy instead.&nbsp;After his time in the service, Duane married Thelma Stanley; he then moved his family to Wyoming. During their time there, Duane worked in the oilfield around the towns of Casper and Bairoil. Thelma passed away in 1967 and in 1970 the Schwab family moved to Ellinwood where Duane was blessed to operator his oilfield business, Schwab's Tinker Shop, Inc alongside his son John. Their operation spanned multiple states and countries. Duane was a true craftsman; together he and son John invented and engineered a handful of devices to be used throughout the oilfield.&nbsp;Duane married Kathleen M. Komarek in 1991 at the home of his son in Liberal, KS.&nbsp;Duane also owned Schwabie’s Place, the restaurant that later became John Henry's. Schwabie's passion was collecting and working on Model T and A cars. He was a member of auto clubs in Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Arkansas.&nbsp;Duane also loved to fish and spent lots of time at Kanopolis Lake with his betterhalf, Kathy.

Survivors include wife, Kathleen M. Schwab, Ellinwood, KS; son, John and wife Amanda, Liberal, KS; grandchildren, Nique (Todd) Brown, Whitney (David) Hampton, Dallas Schwab (companion Stacie), Johnette (Dustin) Johnson, Kendra Bozarth; and 16 beloved great-grandchildren. Duane was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma; brothers, Claude and Glenn; and sisters Georgia and Dorothy.&nbsp;

Funeral Service will take place Thurs., Apr. 20th 10:30 AM at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood with Pastor Thomas Reazin officiating. Duane Schwab 'Schwabie', age 90

Leon A. Romme, 77, passed away on March 1, 2023, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence. He was born on Sept. 2, 1945, in Victoria, to Ray and Magdalena (Kuhn) Romme. On Sept. 18, 1971, he married Jolene Steinbacher in Great Bend. She survives. From that union, they had two sons, Bradley and Brett Romme, both of Lawrence.

Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, at Great Bend Cemetery. Having served his country during Vietnam, military honors will be present by the United States Marines. Leon Romme, age 77

Kenneth Burdette “Ken” Stueve, 90, passed away on April 12, 2023, at Stoney Brook of Copperas Cove, Texas. He was born on Oct. 14, 1932, in Wisner, Neb., to Otto &amp; Gertrude (Schulz) Stueve. He married Agnes Stoecklein on Sept. 13, 1958, in Great Bend.

A long-time Great Bend resident, Ken worked at Halliburton and Welex prior to taking a supervisor position at Fuller Brush and then the terminal manager for Terra Chemical. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend, American Legion Post #180, and the Central Kansas Coyote Hunters Association. He served as an Army Sergeant in the 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War.

There wasn’t much Ken could not do. From welding, to woodwork, he could repair anything that needed fixing, make jerky, sauerkraut, and salsa. A born storyteller, he could spin a few tales from time to time and entertain anyone who would listen. Ken was a champion marksman at black powder rendezvous events, loved fishing, hunting, camping, and taking care of his lawn and garden.

His 90-plus years of this earthly life were guided by his faith and trust in God. He had a resilient faith in Jesus Christ, and it showed in how he took care of anyone who needed extra help, his constant daily prayers, how he handled close personal and family losses, and most of all how he raised his children.

Survivors include his wife Agnes Stueve of the home; daughter Susan Tyson (Kim) of Copperas Cove, Texas; and son, Vincent Stueve (Holly) of Round Rock, Texas; eight grandchildren, Dustain Stueve (Susan), Sallie Stueve, Trista Taylor (Ty), Augustus Stueve (Kristen), Matthew Leach, Nicholas Tyson (Alexis), Rose Stueve and Wyatt Stueve; five great-grandchildren, Graede, Brooks and Regaen Taylor, Peyton Wells and Kami Stueve; and a sister, Carolyn Rowland (Robert), and sister-in-law Karen Kuzelka (Mike). He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Russell, and Garry (Butch), a granddaughter, Tacoa Lee Stueve, and son, Steven Stueve.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 21, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor Sharon Custer presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery, with Military Rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Brenda was employed at Great Bend Packing for 16 years until its closure. She enjoyed gardening, camping, sitting around a campfire, yard sales, computers, and dearly loved her animals.

Survivors include one son, Brandon Green of Arkansas; two brothers: Sam (&amp; Sharon) Staggs of Protection, and Randy Staggs of Larned; two sisters: Goldie Elsen of Ellinwood, and Connie Wallis of Pawnee Rock; nieces and nephews.
