Russell D. “Speedy” Hoberecht, a longtime resident of Great Bend, peacefully went to be with his heavenly Father on June 3, 2024. Russell was born on Oct. 4, 1931, in Newton, son of William Delmer and Gladys Marie (Howard) Hoberecht. He married Wanda Joyce Kirkman Sept. 20, 1953, in Great Bend. She survives.
Russell enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Korean War, earning the rank of Sergeant. He co-owned and operated Ace Pipe Pulling. He was then employed with Koch Industries as a Gauger until his retirement. Russell was a faithful member of First Christian Church. He had a photographer’s talent and could build anything from birdhouses to furniture.
Russell is survived by his wife of 70 years; sons, Mark Hoberecht (Cheryl) of Great Bend, Kirk Hoberecht of Salida, Colo.; daughter, Lisa Kjellberg of Hutchinson; brother, Leland Hoberecht of Newton; sister, Thelma Buettgenbach (Sol) of Great Bend, grandchildren; Vanessa Reece (Travis), Jace Hoberecht (Mary Kate), Kristen Hoberecht, Cassie Hoberecht, Nicholas Kjellberg, Andrew Kjellberg; great grandchildren, Skylar Bowers, Maddie Bowers, Atlas Reece, and Larke Reece.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Hoberecht; sister, Glenna Bone; son in law, Stanley Kjellberg.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, June 11, 2024, 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Joseph Smeragliuolo presiding. Military Honors conducted by United States Marine Corps Honor Guard. Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m., Monday June 10, Bryant Funeral Home.
