Linda Pauline Kasselman, 71, went to her eternal home April 1, 2025. She was born to Warren and Nadine Schartz on January 11, 1954, in Great Bend, Kansas. Linda was raised the daughter of a farmer. She was a genuine farm girl, strong and smart. She treasured simple things like a beautiful sunrise, sunset, or a blooming flower brought her joy.

Linda’s childhood was filled with driving tractors, swathers, or wheat trucks. She had a gift for nurturing and training animals. Linda understood and loved nature. She was skilled at bringing the sick or hurt animals back to health; she would be up at all hours taking extraordinary measures to care for them.

On July 20, 1973, she married Rick Kasselman. They loved and were devoted to each other for over 51 years. Together, they remodeled and improved Linda’s childhood home and built a successful business. Linda always had a beautiful garden and took great pride in her yard and pond, which is still enjoyed by all who visit their home. She was a hard worker, an avid gardener and a skilled cook. While Linda had the opportunity to travel, she always preferred to be home.

Together, Rick and Linda raised two children (Amy and Bryan) and delighted in two grandchildren (Hayden and Rylen). Linda devoted her life to her family and was known to drop everything for her kids and grandkids. She loved taking her kids swimming, bike riding and horseback riding after the chores for the day were done.  She spoiled her grandkids and loved them deeply, she loved taking them on adventures, no chores required.

She taught her family how to care for others, to love, and to forgive. She demonstrated a life of service to others, consideration of other’s feelings, and careful words. In death, she taught them how to let go and to love each other forever. She was always there when she was needed and will always be a part of their best memories.

Her most esteemed titles and accomplishments, the noteworthy ones: Child of God, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. We are so blessed to have been loved by her. 

Linda was preceded in death by her brother, Duane, her mother Nadine, and her father Warren. She is missed and loved eternally by those she was taken from, her husband Rick; son Bryan, and daughter- in-law Kristin; daughter Amy Brown, son-in-law Ted Brown, and her grandchildren Hayden &amp; Rylen Brown. Her brother Curtis Schartz (Lila), sister Debra Stickney (LeRoy), sister Brenda Birzer (Steve), and their respective families. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday April 5, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood, with Father Terrance Klein presiding. Interment will follow at Lakin Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood. Linda Kasselman, age 71

Robert A. “Bob” Ashworth, 85, of Arlington, passed March 31, 2025, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born April 7, 1939, on the family farm north of Macksville, to Myrl K. and Velda I. (Abrams) Ashworth.

Bob graduated from Macksville High School in 1957 and earned his Bachelors and Masters in Industrial Arts Education from Fort Hays State University. He taught Industrial Arts at Nickerson High School for 29 years before he retired.

Bob answered the call to serve his community as both a volunteer firefighter and EMT. He served on the Reno County District 4 Fire Department for 40 years. Bob helped establish the Arlington EMS, becoming one of the first board certified EMTs in the state of Kansas. Additionally, he served on the Nickerson Fire Department and Reno County EMS Reserves.

On August 29, 1965, Bob married Dedria A. Dipman, in Larned. They shared nearly 60 years of marriage and were blessed with two children, Dari and Darin.

Bob was a man of many talents, driving a concrete truck in college and after retiring from teaching. He also worked summers at the Arlington Co-op and assembled farm implements to earn income for his family’s treasured summer vacations in their motorhome.

In his spare time, Bob enjoyed gardening, fishing and woodworking. He built his own home and shop, and spent many hours assisting his children and grandchildren with their projects.

Bob loved spending time with his family. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren and would tell you that they were his greatest joy. And, they loved having Grandpa Bob in attendance at their many athletic events and activities. This extraordinary man will be greatly missed by his family, his community and all who knew him.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Dedria; his children, Dari Hilbert (Tom) of Seneca, Darin Ashworth (Emily) of Haven; grandchildren: Maurice Hilbert, Abraham Hilbert, Noah Hilbert, Lorelei Ashworth, Luke Ashworth, Nolan Ashworth; siblings: Janice Murphy, Nancy Douglas, Ronald Ashworth (Retha), all of Larned; and many extended family members.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Ashworth; and sister, Jeanne Hawk.

He was a member of Larned United Methodist Church and attended Arlington United Methodist Church.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Elliott Chapel. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed in his obituary on the funeral home website. Graveside service will follow at Larned Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Robert 'Bob' Ashworth, age 85

Jean Augusta “Gusty” Smith, 48, died March 25, 2025, at her home in Hutchinson. She was born on May 26, 1976, in Dodge City, to John Gill Smith and Shannon Marie Helfrich.

Gusty was a 1994 Dodge City High School graduate. She attended Emporia State University earning her bachelor’s degree in secondary education and master’s degree in instructional design. Gusty was an English Teacher at Hutchinson High School and was currently in her 20th year of teaching. She was a passionate teacher who enjoyed sharing her love for reading and writing to her students. Gusty loved to read poetry and books; especially fine literature and the classics, her favorite author was Kurt Vonnegut. Gusty liked playing trivia, spending time with her family and friends, as well as her cats.&nbsp;

She is survived by: her daughter, Magnolia Foster of Lawerence; mother, Shannon Smith of St. John; sisters, Anne Smith of St. John and Hannah Bartlett of Cape Coral, FL; six nieces and nephews; five aunts; four uncles; and cats, Hedwig and Birdie.

Gusty was preceded in death by: her father, maternal and paternal grandparents; three aunts; and two uncles.

Jean 'Gusty' Smith, age 48

Dermot Leo Randa, 64, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

Dermot was born March 1, 1961, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Jerome W. and Agnes (Herrman) Randa. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1979 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, he was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #2340, and a former member of Rush County Fire District #6, all of Liebenthal, Kansas. He was a member of the Virgil C. Dechant 4th Degree Assembly 3550, La Crosse, Kansas. Dermot was a Washington Redskins fan, and enjoyed playing baseball, bowling, and hunting. He enjoyed camping and was a member of the Cedar Bluff Diehards, and a charter member of “The Rowdy Bunch”. Above everything, he loved his grandchildren. They were the light of his life.

On May 3, 2003, he married Suzanne Petersilie at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas.

Survivors include: his wife, Suzanne Randa, La Crosse, Kansas; two sons, James Bunting, Seattle, Washington, and Michael Resseguie, La Crosse, Kansas; two daughters, Heather Booth (Charles), Wellington, Kansas, and April Randa, Hoisington, Kansas; one step daughter, Farah Stude (Tim), Syracuse, Kansas; 15 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; his mother in law, Mickie Malone, La Crosse, Kansas; one brother, Darold Randa, Liebenthal, Kansas; two sisters, Coleen Janda (Michael), Salina, Kansas, and Christine Werth, Hays, Kansas; several beloved nephews and nieces; and an adopted pain in the a* * daughter (Dermot’s words), Tayci Helm, La Crosse, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother in law, Ory and Sheila (Kultgen) Petersilie; a brother in law, Richard Kirby Petersilie; and a sister in law, Mary Ann Randa.

Dermot Randa, age 64

Kent Douglas Fuhr 70, passed away at home March 5, 2025. Born January 22, 1955 in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Paul and Eunice (Morgenstern) Fuhr.  Graduated from Great Bend High School, Class of 1973 and went to work at a trailer factory in Great Bend and later worked for Doerr's of Larned. He married Joline Fredrickson, January 26, 1987.

Doug had been the co-owner, with his wife, of several businesses in Great Bend including Fuhr Liquor, The Humidor and Just More Rumors. He had many friends and interests including re-felting pool table tops and helping out with the GB Dart League and the VFW Auxiliary Post #3111.    Doug was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Great Bend and for a short time he enjoyed driving the Noah's Ark preschoolers safely home in the church van. Doug would always greet you with a huge smile and say “what 'cha doing"!  His smiling face will be greatly missed. 

Survivors include his wife, Joline; one nephew, Jason Fuhr of Flower Mound, TX; one niece, Gina French (Chad) of McPherson and numerous great nieces and nephews whom Doug adored.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Fred Fuhr.  Services will be 11:00 AM,  Saturday, April 19, 2025 at First United Methodist Church, Great Bend, KS. Kent Douglas Fuhr, age 70

Michael Douglas "Tiny" Berscheidt, 60, of Great Bend, Kan., passed away on March 28, 2025, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. Michael was born on April 1, 1964, in Great Bend, to Paul and Trella (Scheuerman) Berscheidt. He married Coleen Wilhelm, August 1, 1987, in Great Bend. This union was blessed with four sons, Craig, Aaron, Jason and Blake.

During his Great Bend High School years, Michael worked for Reed Testing, at a questionable age. following high school, he worked for Alve Axman's farming operation, Dean Smith Trucking, Burdett, Kan., then moved on to Allen Drilling, Cenex Transportation and McClaskey Oilfield transportation. At that time he moved to Ottawa, Kan., and began driving for Walmart Transportation. Michael enjoyed the outdoors, particularly camping, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed cooking up some spectacular barbeque recipes, and more recently, spending time with his granddaughter. He had just recently returned to Great Bend.

He is survived by his father, Paul Berscheidt of Great Bend; sister, Kimberly Schenk and husband Greg of Great Bend; Coleen Wilhelm of Great Bend; sons, Craig and fiancé Anne of Kansas City; Aaron and wife Kayla of Spring Hill; Jason and wife Liz of Gardner and Blake of Lawrence. Also surviving is granddaughter, Ella and two fur babies, Zoey and Bear. Michael was preceded in passing by his mother, Trella; grandparents, Glenn and Hazel Scheuerman and Fredrick and Pauline Berscheidt.

Michael was born on April 1, 1964, in Great Bend, to Paul and Trella (Scheuerman) Berscheidt. He married Coleen Wilhelm, August 1, 1987, in Great Bend. This union was blessed with four sons, Craig, Aaron, Jason and Blake.During his Great Bend High School years, Michael worked for Reed Testing, at a questionable age. following high school, he worked for Alve Axman's farming operation, Dean Smith Trucking, Burdett, Kan., then moved on to Allen Drilling, Cenex Transportation and McClaskey Oilfield transportation. At that time he moved to Ottawa, Kan., and began driving for Walmart Transportation. Michael enjoyed the outdoors, particularly camping, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed cooking up some spectacular barbeque recipes, and more recently, spending time with his granddaughter. He had just recently returned to Great Bend.He is survived by his father, Paul Berscheidt of Great Bend; sister, Kimberly Schenk and husband Greg of Great Bend; Coleen Wilhelm of Great Bend; sons, Craig and fiancé Anne of Kansas City; Aaron and wife Kayla of Spring Hill; Jason and wife Liz of Gardner and Blake of Lawrence. Also surviving is granddaughter, Ella and two fur babies, Zoey and Bear. Michael 'Tiny' Berscheidt, age 60

Christopher Daniel “Chris” Schwartz, 43, passed away from complications of the flu on March 27, 2025, at The University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. He was born on July 3, 1981, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Daniel “Danny” and Stacy (Stinemetz) Schwartz. On October 19, 2012, he married Sarah Campbell in Great Bend.

A lifetime resident of Great Bend, Chris worked as a manager at Mr. Burger. He attended church services at First United Methodist Church. Chris loved playing and watching baseball and was a Kansas City Chiefs fan. By being an organ donor, he was able to bless two people with his kidneys. Chris’s greatest achievement was having his own family – he adored his children, loving to spend time with them and watching them play sports.

Survivors include his wife of the home; son, Liam Schwartz of the home; daughters, Linden Schwartz and Lindsey Schwartz, both of the home; mother, Stacy Schwartz of Great Bend; brothers, Mitchell Schwartz and wife Kris of Sedgwick, Joshua Schwartz and fiancé Ashley Augustine of Hays, and Brett Schwartz and wife Allison of Great Bend; sister, Farah Stude and husband Tim of Syracuse; grandmother, Barbara Stinemetz of Great Bend; parents-in-law, Tony and Brenda Campbell of Great Bend; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

Karen L. Schraeder, 72, passed away March 28, 2025, surrounded by family at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born on May 16, 1952, in Great Bend, Kansas, to William “Bill” and Helen (Langer) Koester. On October 17, 1981, she married Richard Schraeder at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend, Kansas.

A lifetime Barton County resident, Karen worked as a surgical nurse for CKMC. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick and a member of the Altar Society. Karen was a former member of the Pilot Club. She was an avid gardener, known for her green thumb in the yard with flowers, vegetables, and plants. In her younger years, Karen held a pilot’s license and would fly with Richard.

Survivors include her husband of the home; son, David Schraeder and significant other Melissa Koehn of Great Bend; honorary granddaughter, Paige Koehn of Great Bend; brothers, Duane Koester and wife Janet of Hoisington, Ken Koester and wife Barbara of Great Bend, Ron Koester and wife Betty of Manhattan, and Rick Koester and wife Pam of Hoisington; sister-in-law, Ellen Koester of Topeka; beloved shorkie, Tucker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Karen Schraeder, age 72

Dennis Lee Chegwidden, 80, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, at his home in Lewisville, Texas. He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Dorothy, and his son, Lincoln M. Chegwidden and wife Dawn of Flower Mound, TX; their daughters, Agnes Chegwidden, of Flower Mound, TX. and Mikaela Chegwidden Todorovac and husband Sanjin, their children Devin and Mia of Lewisville, TX. Also, in Fort Worth, TX., his daughter Stephanie D. and her husband, Donald Mitchell and from Florida, their children: son, Sean, and daughters, Lauren with children Wyatt, Evan, Emmalynn and Weston and Kelly, husband Jessie Waters with children, Jessie Jr., Natalie and Phoenix. Dennis is also survived by his sister, Vicki Rogg, of Salina, Kansas and many nieces and nephews.

Following Dennis’ death, his twin brother, Douglas, passed away in Topeka, Kansas on January 22, 2025. Dennis’ parents Byron and Grace Chegwidden, of Bunker Hill, Kansas are buried at the Bunker Hill cemetery along with other family members.

Dennis was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where his father was stationed in the Navy. After his father’s discharge, the family moved back to Bunker Hill, Kansas. His parents were employed by the U.S. Postal Service. In school, Dennis participated in sports of football, basketball, and track and graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1962. Dennis and Dorothy met in Kansas City at Donnelly College. They were married on August 29, 1965. Dennis graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Art in 1967 and a Master of Science degree in Art in 1968 from Fort Hays State University. He became an Instructor of Art and Department Chairperson at Hutchinson Community College, where he taught for 20 years. During this time, he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Wichita State University in 1976. Receiving her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English/Education from Wichita State University, Dorothy taught at Hutchinson High School and Buhler High School in Kansas. Dennis and Dorothy supported each other in their professional careers and education goals.

Dennis pursued his professional art career as well. His sculptures of cast bronze and steel and plexiglass were selected in over twenty national competitions and won various awards. A large steel sculpture, Maximal Minimal (also known as Picasso’s Hand) was purchased by the Springfield Contemporary Art Museum in Springfield, Missouri, for their permanent collection. A large outdoor stainless-steel sculpture, Inert Stabile, was installed on the University of Missouri, Columbia campus. Other large outdoor sculptures are installed at the Hutchinson National Bank, Hutchinson, Kansas and the Salina Cultural Art Center in Salina, Kansas. All of these sculptures are catalogued in the Smithsonian archive slide collection for large outdoor sculptures in the United States. In Corpus Christi, Tx another notable bronze cast at his Vulcan Bronze Foundry was “Windsurfer” purchased by the Whataburger Corporate Offices. Other art works are in public and private collections.

Moving the family to Corpus Christi, Texas, Dennis built his bronze casting foundry. Continuing his teaching, Dennis became an adjunct Instructor at Del Mar College and at Park College, Naval Base. Dorothy taught at Tuloso-Midway High School and as an adjunct at Del Mar College. After many years, Dennis and Dorothy moved to North Texas to be with their families and where Dennis taught as an adjunct Instructor for North Texas Community College. Dorothy was a high school English teacher at Flower Mound High School until retiring in 2013.

Outside of work and school, Dennis and Dorothy enjoyed antiquing and refinishing the early American wood furniture they collected. They participated in designing and building two homes together. Dennis loved Preservation Hall jazz music from New Orleans and Elvis. He toured museums and art exhibits with his family. He loved holidays and family trips, Western television and movies with John Wayne and James Arness, and watching football when the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys played.

Dorothy and his loyal friend, Teddie, a Chow-Chow, were with him when he passed peacefully on New Year’s morning in his bed at home in Lewisville, Tx.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., April 5, 2025, at the Bunker Hill Cemetery, Bunker Hill, Kansas, with Reverend Daniel Vandenburg presiding.

Dennis Chegwidden, age 80

Craig Myron Robl, 63, passed away March 21, 2025, in Ellinwood, Kansas. He was born May 23, 1961, in Great Bend to Roy and Rosemary (Schawe) Robl. Craig married Paula (Garrison) on August 15, 2009, in Claflin, Kansas. She survives.

As a teenager, he became interested in motocross, racing in numerous tracks across the Midwest. He remained a fan, attending National races in Texas and Colorado. After completing high school, and obtaining his pilot license, he enrolled in A&amp;P (Airframe and Powerplant) schooling to become licensed to service aircraft. During this time, he flew as an aerial applicator for 17 years. He acquired his own plane, and many Saturday mornings could be found flying with his pilot friends somewhere for breakfast. But, he said, “you can not take the farm out of a farm boy” and went back to farming in partnership with his brother, Corey, until his health declined. Craig was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood, and served on the St. Joseph Catholic School board. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1187, board member of the Great Bend Coop, Experimental Aircraft Association, and Kansas State Farm Management Association.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 15 years, Paula Robl; parents, Roy E. and Rosemary Robl of Ellinwood; son, Christopher Robl and his wife Courtney of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Shawna Schafer and her husband Matthew of Ellinwood; stepson, Wayne Tajchman (Amy); stepdaughters, Shannon Tajchman and Brenda Holden (Danyon); grandchildren, Benjamin Robl, Zachary Robl, Paige Robl, Jackson Schafer, and Mason Schafer; four step grandchildren, Braeden Holden, Layton Holden, Avah Holden and Caydence Tajchman; one great grandson, Karter Holden; brothers, Kenton Robl (Staci) of Ellinwood, Rodney Robl (Cheryil) of Centennial, Colo., Corey Robl of Ellinwood, and Ryan Robl of Ellinwood; sister, Joan Wise (Andrew) of Ellinwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Craig Robl, age 63

Alvin Francis Urban, 91, Loretto, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Alvin (Al) was born August 12, 1933, in Loretto, Kansas, the son of Frank and Rosalia (Breit) Urban. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1951 graduate of Bison High School, Bison, Kansas. He was a third generation farmer and worked tirelessly on the farm until he was 80.

On June 1, 1959, Al married Elaine Klima at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde, Kansas. They most recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Al was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas, and the VFW. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and baseball. He was a member of the Loretto Bluejays baseball team in his younger years. Al cherished his German heritage and was very humbled by the generations of relatives that preceded him. He loved to listen to polka music and loved to be part of any celebration.

Al’s dry sense of humor was always present, and a sparkle in his eye gave you an indication that a good story or joke was soon to follow.

Al was extremely proud of his 1955 Ford Fairlane and was happy to tell a story about how it closely resembled his first car when Elaine and he had gotten married.

He was an avid follower of Royals, Mariners, Chiefs and K-State. He loved to discuss baseball and football stats and players. He never missed any of his kids' sporting events.

Al was a veteran of the United States Army and was very proud of his service and was able to share his overseas Germany deployment with his brother Rueben. He loved to talk to anyone who had served in the military and was always willing to share a story of his service.

Survivors include: his wife, Elaine Urban, Loretto, Kansas; one son, David Urban (Gail), Manhattan, Kansas; two daughters, Debora McLain (Randall), Norman, Oklahoma, and Danette Riordan (Frank), Anacortes, Washington; eight grandchildren, Chris McLain (Jessica), Seattle, Washington, Randi McLain, Dallas, Texas, Morgan Urban, Wichita, Kansas, Megan Thornton (Tyler), Wamego, Kansas, Grant Urban, Manhattan, Kansas, Madison Schmitz (Nathan), Manhattan, Kansas, Dylan Riordan, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Brooke Riordan, Hanford, California; six great grandchildren; one brother, Rueben Urban (Virginia), Loretto, Kansas; and one sister, Arlene Stramel (Gary), Hays, Kansas.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at St. Mary’s Help Of Christians Shrine, Loretto, Kansas. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.

Church visitation will be Friday, March 28, 2025, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:20 A.M. at St. Mary’s Help Of Christians Shrine, Loretto, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Friday, March 28, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary’s Help Of Christians Shrine, Loretto, Kansas, with Father Reginald A. Urban and Father Donald Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Loretto, Kansas.

Alvin Urban, age 91

Clarence J. Bittel, 90 La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Clarence was born August 16, 1934, in Logan, Kansas, the son of Peter and Marie (Schmidt) Bittel. He was a 60 year resident of Rush County, Kansas, moving there from Colorado. A 1953 graduate of Densmore High School, Densmore, Kansas, he owned and operated Bittel Excavating Company, in La Crosse, Kansas, before his retirement.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas. He was a former La Crosse City Commissioner and Mayor; a former volunteer firefighter for the La Crosse Fire Department and served on many committees at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He was instrumental in organizing the Rush County AA and served as a leader and counselor in many surrounding counties.

On June 2, 1955, he married Dorothy M. Depperschmidt at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas. She preceded him in death July 24, 2024.

Survivors include: two sons, Dennis Bittel (Christie), La Crosse, Kansas, and Gerald Bittel (Linda), La Crosse, Kansas; four grandchildren, Jessica Dellett (Jason), La Crosse, Kansas, Jennifer Stonequist (Jeread), Wellsville, Kansas, Amy Love (Damian), Manhattan, Kansas, and Ryan Urban (Stephanie), Mammoth Lakes, California; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Carroll Bittel, Glade, Kansas; one sister, Kathryn Scott, Sutherland, Nebraska; and two sisters in law, Nadine Bittel, Shelton, Nebraska , and Angela Archer, La Crosse, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Alvin Bittel, Lavern Bittel, LeRoy Bittel, Donald Bittel, and Larry Bittel; and two sisters, Charlotte Broyles, and Georgine Schurz.

Clarence Bittel, age 90

Janet Evelyn (Gore) Little, 97, passed away March 19, 2025, in her home in Great Bend, Kan. She was born on December 31, 1927, in Larned, Kan., to James E. and Hazel (Boley) Gore. Her father, James, tragically lost his life in a farm accident five months before Janet was born. Janet was a longtime Great Bend resident coming from Larned, following her marriage to Bill B. Little on May 4, 1952. To this union, two children were born, Susan and Patrick. Bill passed away July 4, 1966.

Janet worked at Small World Children’s shop, volunteered with Red Cross blood mobile, was a member of P.E.O. Chapter IV, Progress Club, and First Christian Church. Her hobbies were babies and children, restoring furniture, painting, papering, flowers, her family, neighbors, and most of all, being “Nanny” to her two granddaughters and six great grandchildren.

Janet is survived by daughter, Susan Holste and her husband David of Great Bend; son, Patrick Little and his wife Susan of Branson, Mo.; two granddaughters, Dru (Holste) Garrett and her husband, Logan and Erin (Holste) Parham and her husband, Gabe; great grandchildren, Kamryn Garrett, Cooper Garrett, Kynslee Garrett, Brooklyn Parham, Blake Parham, Beckett Parham; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and her sister, Lorna Dell Treesh.

Janet (Gore) Little, age 97

Lois Jean Dominguez, 73, passed away March 17, 2025, at Azria Health Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on May 31, 1951, in Great Bend, to Billy and Theresa (Hipp) Dykes.

A resident of Great Bend, Lois formerly worked as a home health and hospice aid while living in Oklahoma. She was a member of Encounter Church and enjoyed volunteering at the Salvation Army and the Dream Center. Above all else, she cherished time with her family.

Survivors include son, Shane Edward Fruits of Great Bend; daughters, Tracey Ellen Riemer and husband Aaron of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Dana Cook and fiancé Hoyt Blankenship of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Jaycee Cook of Durant, Oklahoma, Travis Barnard of Moore, Oklahoma, Brianne Riemer and Brooklyn Riemer of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Sierra Dawn Brownell and husband Zacheus of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; five brothers, Mark Dykes of Blaine, Minnesota, Jeff Dykes and wife Carol of Centennial, Colorado, Luke Dykes and wife Renee, Gary Dykes, and Matt Dykes and wife Tami, all of Great Bend; two sisters, Gail Cooper and husband Carl of Great Bend, Jane Maresch and husband Edward of Salina; brother-in-law, Tim Morris; former son-in-law, Christopher Cook; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert “Bob” William Gordon, 74, passed away March 13, 2025, in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born November 28, 1950, at Great Bend to David &amp; Rose (Mengucci) Gordon.

Bob served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. He came back to the area and worked for GBI as a Machinist for over 30 years. In his younger years, he enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing.

Survivors include son, Eric Gordon of Great Bend; daughter, Tasha Pfizenmaier and her husband Troy of Clay Center; grandchildren, Tanner Pfizenmaier and Trista Pfizenmaier; great grandchild, Wrenley Pfizenmaier; and sister, Sheila Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, John Gordon.

Graveside services and inurnment will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 21, 2025, at Great Bend Cemetery, with Reverend Daniel Vandenburg presiding and military honors provided by the United States Navy Guard. Robert 'Bob' Gordon , age 74

Gary Elvin Simmons, 81, passed away March 14, 2025, at University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus, Great Bend. Gary was born August 31, 1943, in Larned, Kan., to Everett Thomas Robert and Ethel (Nichelson) Simmons. Gary married Cherry DeBerry, then later married Sandra “Sandi” Lee Nuss in 1976, in Great Bend. Sandi passed away Nov. 11, 2011.

Gary was a long-time resident of Great Bend, coming from Larned. His care and character of commitment for his community was demonstrated through his operation of Great Bend Floral, which he, alongside Sandi, owned for 38 years. With Gary’s passion of sharing his skill and trade, he instructed floral design at Barton County Community College for a short period of time. In his younger more active years, he enjoyed hunting, racquetball and was considered an avid photographer.

Survivors include one son, Shane Simmons of Great Bend; one daughter Stephanie L. Simmons of Waco, Texas; four grandchildren, Kathlena Shaughnessy and husband James, Landon Orr and wife Lydia, Jaysa Orr and Dakota Simmons; and six great grandchildren, Owen Shaughnessy, Kellan Orr, Zealand Orr, Evelyn Orr, Harlyn Orr and Amarett Simmons; two sisters, Annalee Short of Wichita and Merrie Evan of Mo.; one brother, Melvin Simmons of Medicine Lodge; and mother-in-law, Delora Nuss of Great Bend. Marylin Ann Anderson, 76, passed away March 11, 2025, at Azria Health in Great Bend, Kansas. She was born November 22, 1948, in El Paso, Texas to Earl and Lorena “Ruth” (Gilmore) Paxton.

Marylin met Rathaeul “Ralph” Anderson, Jr. in 1970, while working as a keypunch operator at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX. After a brief courtship, they married at El Paso on March 6, 1971. Their marriage was blessed with two children: Aimee Ruth and Robert Alan. Marylin obtained her master’s degree in education and worked in the Flour Bluff ISD, Socorro ISD, Ysleta ISD, and El Paso ISD as a high school teacher and counselor. The young family moved to Corpus Christi, TX for a few years in the 1980s for Ralph’s banking work, returning to El Paso once again where he eventually became a high school teacher as well. After retirement, Marylin and Ralph loved to road trip, attending sorority conventions and Gideon conferences, and visiting family in Texas, Kansas, Arizona, Colorado, Virginia, and Alabama. Their theme song was “On the Road Again”. Ralph preceded her in death April 23, 2024.

Marylin was a member of Journey of Faith Community Church of El Paso. Ralph and Marylin had a mission of prayer, testimony, service, and she ministered faithfully beside him as an Auxiliary for the Gideon’s. She was an active volunteer with the Assistance League of El Paso. She also volunteered some of her time in hospice care. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma teacher sorority. She loved going to the movies with her friends, and keeping up with friends and family over the phone and on Facebook – especially showing off pictures of her grandchildren and grandpets.

Survivors include daughter, Aimee Ruth Wutka and her husband Adam of Great Bend, KS; son, Robert Alan Anderson and his wife Danielle of Houston, TX.; grandchildren, Nathan Wutka, Ben Wutka, Isaac Wutka, and Gabriel Wutka; brother, Larry Paxton of Chesapeake, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 53 years, her sister Ruth Earlene “Rene” Abel, her brother-in-law William “Bill” Abel, and her sister-in-law Pat Paxton.

Joan married Richard F. Pope June 23, 1956, in Endicott, N.Y. He preceded her in death, February 1, 2012. Joan and Richard moved to the area in 2007. She worked at IBM as a key punch operator, as a bank teller, and for the school district food service. She was a local political enthusiast and loved helping at the election offices. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Newark Valley before transferring membership to First Christian Church in Great Bend. She was an avid reader, loved to go bowling, play a good game of pinochle, and bingo.

Survivors include daughters, Cathy Yetter of Great Bend, Lori Hammeke and her husband Colin of Great Bend, Vicki Spina and her husband Charles of Larned; grandchildren, Aaron Hammeke (Becky), Daniel Spina (Sally), Ryan Hammeke (Megan), Jessie Spina, Liz Yetter, Abby Hammeke; great grandchildren, Ethan Hammeke, Beth Hammeke, Emma Hammeke, Tyler Hammeke and Easton Hammeke; brother, David Robinson of Orlando, Fla. Linda Kay Durland, 57, passed away March 7, 2025, at The University of Kansas Health Systems – Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on October 23, 1967, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Gary and Mary (Kohn) Durland.

A resident of Wichita since 2018, Linda loved to write poetry. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose, as well as Zaik Church, including their Empty Nesters group. Linda was strong in her faith, sharing her love for the Lord through scripture, reading the Bible and listening to Christian music. She was an avid K-State and Kansas City Chiefs fan. Linda was a happy and upbeat person, who loved her family and friends, especially her nieces and nephews of multiple generations.

Survivors include two brothers, Ron Durland and wife Diane of Great Bend, and David Durland and wife Angela of Spring Hill; three sisters, Barbara Downey and husband Delbert of Wright, Jeanette Standlee and husband Brian of Belvue, and Carla Durland of Wichita; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; godmother, Sandra Kohn and friend Jerry Hale of Lady Lake, Florida; uncle and aunt, Galen and Doris Kohn of Dodge City; several cousins; and numerous other loved ones.

Michael Troy “Mike” Joiner, 62, passed away February 27, 2025, at Medicalodges of Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on January 9, 1963, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Jack and Louise (Campbell) Joiner. Mike married Ruth Deutsch; they later divorced.

A lifetime Barton County resident, Mike was a dedicated minister. After attending college at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, he shared his knowledge and faith as lead minister of Extreme Hope Christian Fellowship. Mike was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He loved football, having played in high school, including in the 1981 Shrine Bowl where Hutchinson News named him the western Kansas Defensive Player of the Year, coaching players, and watching all level of the game, especially K.U. In addition to football, Mike competed in powerlifting and arm wrestling. He enjoyed watching other sports like basketball and baseball, riding his motorcycle, and singing karaoke. Mike cherished time with his family, specifically his grandchildren.

Survivors include daughter, Samantha Nicholson and husband Tyson of Larned; son, Gabriel Joiner and wife Holly of Great Bend; five grandchildren, Avalynne, Layla, Isaiah, Kynlsey, and Lorelai; brothers, Don Joiner and wife Rosie of Ellinwood and Jack Joiner and wife Tricia of Weatherford, Oklahoma; former wife, Ruth Joiner; and numerous friends and loved ones.

Imogene Goodwin, 88, passed away March 5, 2025, at her home in Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on May 25, 1936, in Franklin, Arkansas, to Andrew Jackson and Retta Merelene (England) Reeves. On January 8, 1953, she married Vernon McCord in Marked Tree, Arkansas; they later divorced. Imogene then married Abe Goodwin on December 20, 1986, in Pawnee Rock. He passed on April 16, 2020.

A resident of Great Bend since the 1970s, Imogene was a homemaker. Those skills were also shared when she became a cook for Cherry Village and baker for different school systems. She enjoyed flower gardening, baking her famous cinnamon rolls and pecan pies, and was known for keeping the cleanest house.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Maser and husband Daniel of Great Bend, and Shirley Flick and husband Doug of Great Bend; two sons, Bill McCord and wife Tanya of Ellinwood, and Larry McCord and wife Diana of Hawthorne, Florida; nine grandchildren, Shannon Stephens, Dal Peterson, Christopher Maser, Brandon Maser, Ryan Flick, Daniel Flick, Heather Dombroski, Christopher McCord, and Jason Daily; several great-grandchildren; brother, James Earl Reeves and wife Betty of Truman, Arkansas; many nieces and nephews; and beloved dachshund, Bella.

Michelle Renee Jarmer, 57, passed away February 26, 2025, at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kan. She was born October 5, 1967, in Yuma, Ariz.

Michelle, a current resident of Salina coming from Hays and Ellis, served faithfully as a county appraiser for Ness and Ellis counties. She enjoyed scrapbooking and dove wholeheartedly into anything that her kids or grandkids were doing, from storm chasing to motorcycle and four-wheeler riding. Not only was Michelle survived by children of her own, but she was also considered a second mom to so many more.

Survivors include her soul mate, Randy Ferguson of Salina; five sons, Cody Jarmer (Kymber Reinert) of Larned, Derrick Jarmer of Ness City, Austin Ferguson of Salina, Dalton Ferguson of Salina, and Cole Ferguson of Salina; two daughters, Caitlyn Ferguson of Lyons and Mary Ferguson of Salina; and two sisters, Jacqueline Lang (Randy) of Hays and Laura Geschwenter (Jeffrey) of Ellis; and 13 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Leiker and infant Bryce Jarmer.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Bryant Funeral Home, with the family present to receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Private family services will take place at a later date.

Michelle Jarmer, age 57

Martin Robert Becker, 69, of Milberger, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025 at his home with his loving family by his side.

Marty was born January 29, 1956, in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; He was the son of LaVern H. and Elaine L. (Karst) Becker.&nbsp; He grew up in the Milberger area, attended Lincoln Rural Elementary School and graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 1974.&nbsp; He then attended Ft. Hays State University.

Marty met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Susan R. Schmidt on November 25, 1978, at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children; Ryan and Megan.&nbsp; They made their home in rural Russell.

Marty was a devoted Farmer and Stockman.&nbsp; He hauled livestock for many years.&nbsp; He was an active member of the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church and served as Chairman of the UELC Church Council for many years.&nbsp; He served on the Russell County 4-H Fair Board, the Board of Directors of the Great Bend Coop from 2011 to 2019, and Russell County Farm Bureau.&nbsp; His love of farming was both a career and a hobby. He was an avid K-State football and KC Chiefs fan. His favorite holiday was 4th of July and he built a tradition of celebrating it with family and friends.&nbsp; He enjoyed playing cards &amp; games, and fishing with his family and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed being a part of his grandchildren’s lives and activities. Marty was a great Husband, Father, Papa and Friend.

Marty’s surviving family include his wife of 46 years, Susan of the home; son, Ryan Martin Becker (Micah) of Russell, Kansas; daughter, Megan Susanne Becker of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Riley Marie Becker, Reagan Grace Becker, Elijah Martin Becker and Silas Emmanuel Becker; mother-in- law, Alice Schmidt of Russell, Kansas; brothers-in-law, Phillip Schmidt (Vickie) of Seiling, Oklahoma and Gregory Schmidt of Prairie Village, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Shelley Dougherty of Eudora, Kansas and Margie Schmidt of Russell, Kansas.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janet Funk; father-in-law, Richard Schmidt; brothers-in-law, Rick Dougherty, and Wayne Funk; sister-in-law, Annette Gerstner; and niece, Kapryce Schmidt.

Celebration of Marty’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, March 10, 2025, at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Milberger.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Milberger.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.&nbsp; Memorials have been established with the United Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery Fund, and the Russell County 4-H Development Fund. Martin Becker, age 69

Faye Lois Hunt, 89, passed away March 1, 2025, at Sunshine Meadows in Buhler, Kansas. She was born December 30, 1935, in Osborne, to Kenneth &amp; Lottie (Kirby) Gilmore.

Faye married Ray Muth December 19, 1949. He passed away March 23, 1998. During their union, they owned and operated Muth Salvage. She then married Arther Hunt December 28, 2014, in Hoisington. He died September 17, 2015.

Faye took employment as a pilot car for Marlette Homes, hauled hay, and drove truck for Jack B. Kelley. Most recently, she worked for Walmart, in the fabric department for 16 years. There was not much Faye could not do when she self taught how to work with electrical, plumbing, and doing her own mechanics. She was a talented seamstress, loved to knit, and crochet. She enjoyed maintaining her own lawn until she moved to Sunshine Meadows.

Survivors include sons, Jimmy Muth and his wife Cheryl of Eureka Springs, Mo., Tony Muth and his wife Sandy of Great Bend, Steve Muth and his wife Cozetta of Ridgedale, Mo.; daughters, Lynn Muth-Tammen and significant other Kevin Burton of Great Bend, Rhonda Nuss and her husband Scott of Kimberling City, Mo.; and nearly 80 grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray Muth; husband, Arther Hunt, daughter, Cheryl Crain; brothers, Dale Gilmore, Bob Gilmore, Max Gilmore, and Ernie Gilmore.
