Janet Frances Fisher, 69, Larned, died Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born Sept. 22, 1954, in Colby, the fifth of 11 children to George J. and Frances M. (Moellering) Schwarz. In 1973, she graduated from Grinnell High School. Janet was united in marriage to Ronnie Dean Rowlison on June 16, 1973. He preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1977. On June 3, 1994, she was united in marriage to Thomas A. “Tom” Fisher in Hays, and he preceded her in death on May 26, 2019. She was a lifelong Catholic who possessed a strong devotion to the rosary. Janet loved Christian music, singing in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Choir, tuned in every Sunday morning to Message at the Top, and also enjoyed watching Hallmark Channel movies and EWTN. She was a talented artist, crocheted, knitted and loved making baby afghans.

Survivors include her son, Chris Rowlison of Hays, three daughters, Linda (Rowlison) Montgomery and husband Drew of Manhattan, Lisa (Schwarz) Dinkel and husband Matt, and Janell Schwarz, all of Topeka, four brothers, Ron Schwarz of Great Bend, Ken Schwarz and wife Debra of Topeka, Dennis Schwarz and wife Jane of Oakley, and Bernie Schwarz of Olathe, five sisters, Judith Zerr-Schamberger of Hays, Jeanne Peter of Las Vegas, N.V., Marilyn Munk of Russell, Carol Baalman and husband Roger of North Las Vegas, N.V., and Angie Feldt and husband Larry of Hays, six grandchildren, Makayla Schwarz, Abbigail Smith, Kinsley Vaughn, Chanse Schwarz, Kennedi Dinkel and Kasen Dinkel, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, Ronnie and Tom, and her brother, Terrence Francis Schwarz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024, at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church with Fr. Damian Richards officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 on Sunday, and from 9 a.m. until 9:45 on Monday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Janet Fisher, age 69

Melvin J. Dreher, 91, passed away April 13, 2024, at Medicalodges of Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on November 9, 1932, in Liebenthal, Kansas, to Anton and Lucina (Sander) Dreher. On June 3, 1957, he married Mildred Wondra in Liebenthal, Kansas; she passed on June 27, 1985. Melvin then married Eunice (Brack) Basye on November 14, 1987 in Great Bend.

A long-time resident of Great Bend, Melvin was a self-employed welder, owning Mel’s Welding Service. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Melvin was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, Knights of Columbus, Sunflower Polka Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Ambucs, American Legion Post #180, Great Bend Senior Center, and Whatchamacallit Polka Band. He was a people person – having colorful conversations with anyone he met. Melvin also enjoyed playing the accordion, traveling, dancing, and taking drives.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Wayne Dreher of Great Bend, and Dean Dreher of Wichita; two daughters, Diane Dreher of Great Bend, and Debra Dreher of Wichita; and sister, Irene Helms of Mulvane.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; infant children, Karen, Geralyn, and Kevin Dreher; three brothers, Alvin, Edward, and Gary Dreher; and sister, Albina Johnson.

Carol J. Patterson, 87, passed away April 12, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Wichita.

She was born Dec. 31, 1936, in Great Bend, the daughter of Raymond and Viola Boese Ellis.

A lifetime area resident, she was an administrative assistant at Larned State Hospital where she retired after 29 years. She was a member of Rozel United Methodist Church, various Bridge Groups and the Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed singing in her church growing up, playing the steal guitar and drums, word search puzzles, reading, computer games and playing Mahjong.

Survivors include: two daughters, Angela (Michael) McThomas, Andover, New Jersey, Tamara Patterson, Wichita; one brother, Dan (Becky) Ellis, Great Bend; one Daughter-in-law, Kathy Patterson, Larned; three grandchildren, Brittany (Josh) Detherage, Jess McThomas and Jordan Hawk; two great grandchildren, Courtney (Carson) Kettelhake, Jaiden Detherage; one great-great granddaughter, Daisy Kettelhake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, David Patterson, and a grandson, Shawn Valentine.

Graveside services will be announced at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 17, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.

Carol Patterson, age 87

Alta Grace Fry, 102, passed away April 11, 2024, at Medicalodges of Great Bend, Kan. She was born on October 15, 1921, in Harper, Kan., to Reuben and Lucinda (Neuhouser) Weaver. Alta married LeRoy Fry on November 20, 1946, in Salina, Kan.

A resident of Great Bend since 2017 coming from Elk Falls, Kan., Alta spent her life as a homemaker. She was a member of the Calvary Chapel Church in Elk Falls. Alta enjoyed hosting family get togethers, quilting, playing card games, and loved music and singing.

Survivors include three sons, Larry Fry and wife Joyce of Great Bend, Steven Fry and wife Jane of Elk Falls, and Brian Fry and wife Cindy of Hutchinson; a step-daughter, Carri Fox of California; seven grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and sister, Wanda Goode of Virigina.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and twelve siblings.

Larned – Jackie L. Skelton, 88, passed away April 11, 2024 at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born December 11, 1935 in Larned, the son of Nelse N. and Mary Ruth Hazel Combs Skelton.

A lifetime area resident, he worked for the City of Larned for thirty-seven years. He was a member of First Chrisian Church, Larned, National Guard, and enjoyed going to coffee, spending time with his dogs, hunting, fishing, and cruising around town. He also liked scratch off tickets and going to the casino.

On April 8, 1963 he married Connie Lou Hatfield at Alva, Oklahoma; she survives. Jack and Connie just celebrated sixty-one years together.

Other survivors include: three sons, Rick Skelton, Danny Skelton, and Randy Skelton, all of Denver, Colorado; three daughters, Tina (Steve) Kirk, Parker, Colorado, Jacquie (Brad) Walters, Rifle, Colorado, Lisa (Steve) Spain, Larned; numerous grandchildren, including: Chelsy (Charles) Skelton, Brandi (Jordan) Sharp, Jordanne Oleson, Kiley (Alexis) Larsen, Kandra (Brandon) Becerra, Derek Walters, Shaina (Daniel) Nunn, Allisa (Ty) Spain, Natalie (Caleb) Spain; numerous great grandchildren, including: Owen, Cody, Everett, Kameron, Payson, Preslee, Jaxton, Bristole, Cash, and Baylor; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jackie L. Skelton Jr.; six siblings, Mary Brothers, George Skelton, Neal Skelton, Ruth Deckert, Hazel “Tootie” Callahan, Charles Harlan “Ske” Skelton.

Jackie Skelton, age 88

John “Lyle” Manning, 89, passed away on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, in Wichita, KS. He was born on August 11th, 1934, in Stockton, MO, to Elias and Inez Manning. Lyle married beloved Goldie Faye (Hamby) Manning on December 13th, 1956, in Bolivar, MO, soon after moving to Ellinwood, KS, where they raised a family and enjoyed nearly 63 years of happy marriage.

Lyle saw the world as a young man while serving in the US Air Force starting in 1953, including memorable deployments in Greenland and France. After returning stateside, he began a career in the oilfields in 1957, retiring earlier this year after 67 years of service. His career was a great source of enjoyment and pride, and he was known for the relationships he built and the hard work and integrity he demonstrated daily. Many have memories of Lyle telling jokes and visiting with customers at Hi-La and spotting his truck driving slowly along the country roads north of Ellinwood. Most of all, Lyle loved and doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face.

Survivors include daughter Peggy Manning and son Greg (Arlene) Manning of Ellinwood, brother Norman (Marilyn) Manning of El Dorado Springs, MO. Grandchildren include Alicia Manning, Keith (Sua) Herl, Charlie (Santia) Manning, Brent (Erica) Manning, Shane Herl, Jared (Jessica) Manning, as well as 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Lyle was preceded in death by wife Goldie, parents Elias and Inez Manning, daughter Carla Herl, infant son Curtis Dean Manning, sisters Imogene Hembree, Marjorie Thompson, and infant twin sisters Beaulah and Ester Manning, and brothers Eugene Manning, Lee Manning, Clifford Manning, and Glen Manning.

John 'Lyle' Manning, age 89

Leonard E. French, 93, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2024, at Brookdale Senior Living, Great Bend, Kan. He was born August 8, 1930, in rural Barton County, to Charles and Olive (Hejny) French. On September 23, 1951, he married Ruth Anna Andree; she passed on November 27, 1988. He then married Luanne Joy (Lebsack) Scheuerman on January 25, 1992. She passed on July 2, 2023.

Leonard was a 1947 graduate of Otis-Bison High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he was later deployed as a Hospital Corpsman with the First Marine Division for the Inch’ŏn Landing during the Korean War. After marrying his wife and receiving an honorable discharge, he continued his education at Fort Hays State University, receiving a degree in Business Administration and Accounting. Leonard worked as a large case auditor for the U.S. Treasury Internal Revenue Service, initially based out of Wichita. He also spent time in Hutchinson and Salina before returning to Wichita, where he retired in 1988.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Post 3111, and Masonic Lodge #15. Leonard was a great carpenter, avid bowler, and vegetable gardener. He loved supporting his sons in their sports activities by coaching little league baseball and later attending their high school football practices and games – Mike at Salina Central, Jeff and Kelly at Goddard. Later in life, he enjoyed playing blackjack, craps, and poker; cooking; telling Dad/Grandpa jokes; and watching KU Basketball and the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. Most importantly, he was a true caregiver of his family.

Survivors include three sons, Mike French and wife Patti of Pueblo West, Colo., Jeff French of Overland Park, Kan., and Kelly French of Lawrence, Kan.; four grandchildren, Laura Savage and husband Frank, Jamie Mull and husband Nathan, Jordan French and significant other Casey Mathes, and Andrew French and wife Amanda; seven great grandchildren, Raeann Savage, Leah, Penny, Isaac, and Luke Mull, Eli Mathes, and Viviana French; Luanne’s family – daughter, Christine Hawkins and husband John of Wichita, Kan.; grandchildren, Ashley Kerr and husband Jason and Sam Hawkins and wife Ann; and five great grandchildren, Braxton, Kyler and Weston Kerr and Andrew and Josie Hawkins.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks and gratitude to the staff at Brookdale Senior Living for the attention, care, and friendship they gave Dad during his stay there, and thanks to Gentiva Hospice Care for their special assistance during his final days.

Jill Renee (Kauffman) Alpers, 54, of Wichita, transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home Monday, April 8, 2024, with her family by her side. &nbsp;She was born March 15, 1970, in Hutchinson, to Willis Leon and Thelma Faye (Yutzy) Kauffman.&nbsp;

Jill graduated from Kingman High School in 1988, Hesston College in 1990, and Kansas State University in 1994. &nbsp;She worked at Fruhauf Uniforms before starting a family, and again after her children were in school for a total of 15 years. &nbsp;Jill was a stay-at-home mom for 14 years, and was a gifted seamstress. &nbsp;She enjoyed running, quilting, sewing for family and friends, and made the best cheese dip and desserts. &nbsp;Jill’s main priorities were instilling a strong faith in her children and supporting them at their various activities.

Jill’s time on this earth was all too short, but her grit and determination to fight her aggressive cancer, even on the difficult days, left an imprint on her family and friends to never give up and to keep the faith. We will miss her terribly, but we know her body is now made anew and she can walk, run, and sew again.

On October 17, 1998, she married Aaron Wayne Alpers, in Wichita.

Jill is survived by: &nbsp;her husband of 25 years, Aaron; children, Nathan Alpers, Austin Alpers, and Shayla Alpers, all of Wichita; parents, Thelma and Willis Kauffman of South Hutchinson; brother, Jon Kauffman (Meg) of Bryn Mawr, PA; sister-in-law, Sonja Reiser (Dennis) of Hutchinson; nephew, Jesse Kauffman (Elsa) of Charlotte, NC; nieces, Catie Kauffman of Austin, TX, &nbsp;Allison Westbrook (Bryant) of Wichita, and Kimberly Reiser of Hutchinson; and numerous loving and supportive aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her in-laws, Wayne and Lula Mae (Irion) Alpers.

Mark E. Nichols, 75, passed away March 19, 2024, at Azria Woodhaven, Great Bend. He was born on Nov. 10, 1948, in Great Bend, to James and Ulanda (Karst) Nichols. Mark was a 1966 graduate of Great Bend High School, where he was very involved in various clubs and activities.

Mark was united in marriage to Barbie Mullin in Great Bend in 1975.

Mark lived both in California and Wichita for brief periods of time. Living the majority of his life in Great Bend, he was the station manager for a time at KSN-C T.V., as well as a business owner and helped form Nichols Media Group. Sales were his true calling and what he excelled at. He was a salesman for Magnus Broadheads and provided advertising and marketing services for several area businesses.

Mark was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a gun enthusiast, and enjoyed hunting and shooting, especially north of Russell on his cousin’s farm.

Survivors include one son, Robbie Nichols, and two grandchildren, Tyler and Samantha Nichols, all of Washington state.

He is preceded in death by his parents; aunt, Marlene Becker-Steinle; and grandparents, Oscar and Amelia Karst.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Reverend Tom Thierfelder and Reverend Jay Welshonse presiding. Mary E. Volpert , 81, passed away April 5, 2024, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kan. She was born November 5, 1942, in Chanute, Kan., the daughter of Benjamin and Lula (Taylor) Shaner. She married Everette Volpert Aug. 6, 1972, in Junction City, Kan. Everette passed away Dec 18, 2002.

Mary, a resident of Great Bend since 2015 coming from Florida, Arkansas, and Manhattan, Kan., had been in hotel management for many years. She had also had the pleasure of being employed as a cook and house mom for Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, at Kansas State University. She was a Life Member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Auxiliaries, enjoyed fishing, fellowship at the Great Bend Senior Center, crocheting, and, in her younger years, was active with several bowling leagues and CB Radio clubs.

Survivors include one son, Stephen Volpert and wife Dee of Great Bend; three daughters, Teresa Dimond and husband Jeff of Chanute, Kan., Jeanette Hodges of St. George, Kan., and Debbie Wisehardt of Manhattan, Kan.; step daughter, Nancy Volpert of Kent, Wash.; stepson, Jeff Volpert and wife Trina of Topeka, Kan.; one sister; and 23 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her husband Everette; one stepson, Greg Volpert; one son-in-law, Willard Hodges; and six brothers and four sisters.

Patricia Ann White, 75, passed away April 6, 2024, at University of Kansas Health Systems ER, Great Bend, Kan. She was born December 4, 1948, in Corpus Christi, Tex., to Abner “A.C.” Hollingsworth and Edith (Petersilie) Hollingsworth-Dewberry. On April 1, 1990, she married John White in Topeka, Kan. He passed on May 29, 2008.

A resident of Great Bend since 2010 coming from Topeka, Patricia worked as a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family.

Sheila, a longtime resident of Barton County, was a dedicated employee of Sunflower Diversified Services, Dominican Sisters of Peace, and in the past, served as a custodian for M &amp; F Plumbing. She enjoyed listening to polka music, playing Bingo, and watching re-runs of classic sitcoms and movies.

Survivors include two brothers, Steve Ehrlich and wife Aleta of Great Bend, and Scott Ehrlich of Hope Mills, NC; one sister, Sheryl MacDonald and husband Emerson of Otis, Kan; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in passing by her parents, and a sister, Susan Bates.

Arthur August “Art” Wondra, 90, passed away April 2, 2024, at Credo Senior Living, Hoisington, Kansas. He was born on October 25, 1933, in Odin, Kansas, to Joseph and Agnes (Debes) Wondra. On November 14, 1959, he married MaryAnn Huslig in Cunningham, Kansas. She passed on April 28, 2020.

Coming from Odin to Great Bend in 1959, Art worked as a group leader for Marlette Mobile Homes and as a custodian at USD 428. He also worked as a local farmer. Art was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and former member of the Cheyenne Twisters Square Dance Club.

Survivors include four sons, Kevin Wondra (Teresa) of Great Bend, Alan Wondra (Karen) of Wichita, Korey Wondra (Leann) of Hutchinson, and David Wondra of Wichita; daughter, Kathy Walsten (Eric) of Mulvane; eleven grandchildren, Jennifer Axman (Doug), Brice Walsten, Kyle Walsten (Emily), Aaron Wondra (Kassade), Alicia Wondra (fiancé Scott Fienen), Lucas Wondra, Zachary Wondra (Jenna), Evan Wondra (Audrey), Joshua Wondra, Andrew Walsten, and Emma Wondra; twelve great grandchildren, Trysten Grant, Parker Wondra, Adalynn Axman, Louisa Walsten, Connor Wondra, Bentyn Fienen, Zella Wondra, Koehn Wondra, Ellis Walsten, Beckham Wondra, Orin Fienen, and Elias Wondra; step grandchild, Sabrina Bailey (Robert); three step great grandchildren, Cameron Nichols, Jordan Holley, and Braden Holley; step great great grandchild, Bella Holley; a brother, Gerald Wondra of Great Bend; and two sisters, Rita Legliter of St. Marys, and Jeanie Hapes of Great Bend.

On November 14, 1959, he married MaryAnn Huslig in Cunningham, Kansas. She passed on April 28, 2020.Coming from Odin to Great Bend in 1959, Art worked as a group leader for Marlette Mobile Homes and as a custodian at USD 428. He also worked as a local farmer. Arthur 'Art' Wondra, age 90

Larned – Carlotta M. Chacon Brenner, 87, passed away March 30, 2024 at Pleasant Hills Nursing Home, Hutchinson, Kansas.

She was born November 4, 1936 at Kinsley, the daughter of Manuel and Pauline Rey Chacon.

A longtime area resident, she was a hospital nurse aid. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society, PVCH Auxiliary, and Homemaker EHU, all of Larned. She was a very special aunt to her nieces and nephews. Carlotta was a faithful supporter of the blood mobile and anything benefiting the “US of A”.

On November 3, 2001 she married Dr. W.R. Brenner at Larned; he preceded her in death July 19, 2013.

Survivors include: step son, William Brenner Jr., Williamsburg, Virginia; three step daughters, Barbara Polston, Kansas City, Missouri, Anne Armstrong, Fairbanks, Alaska, Katherine Brenner, Eugene Oregon; brother, Martin (Kathleen) Chacon, Hutchinson, Kansas; two sisters, Rosalie Castaneda, Lewis, Margaret (Joe) Garcia, Larned; eleven step grandchildren, ten step great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; two step sons, Robert Brenner and Stephen Brenner; four brothers, Valentine Chacon, Florentino Chacon, Louis Chacon and Juan Manuel Chacon; and a sister, Anne Molina.

Carlotta Chacon Brenner, age 87

John M. Isern, 73, passed away at his home in Ellinwood surrounded by loved ones. Born on January 29th, 1951 in Hutchinson, KS he was the son of Martin L.J. &amp; Florene (Schmitt) Isern. John was a lifetime Ellinwood resident graduating from High School in 1969. He later graduated from Kansas State University in 1976 where he received his Bachelor’s degree. John later married Jacque Kukula on April 25, 1981 at St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinwood. John worked at H &amp; H Groceries and American Parts before working as a Court Service Officer for 13 years. More recently John worked as the Court Administrator of the 20th District Judicial court before retirement in 2018. He served as the President of the "Kansas Association of District Court Clerks and Court Administrators" and on various boards and capacities at St. John Lutheran Church and within the community. John was very active in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts programs and coaching his son’s sports activities while they were young. John was a longtime member who held many positions including the Commander at the American Legion Post #320, was instrumental in creating the Ellinwood Rec. Commission, and remodeling the high school. He served as the "Voice of the Ellinwood Eagles" for many years where he announced football and basketball games and served many years on the USD #355 School Board. John also loved softball and was a member of the Salty Dogs for over 12 years. In 2014 John received the Jerry Menges award for outstanding service and John and Jacque were voted Citizens of the Year in 2019 for the After Harvest Festival. He also proudly served in the United States Navy Reserves for almost 30 years. Due to the 9/11 attacks he was called to active duty where he served in Bahrain for 6 months. John loved attending the various activities of his beloved grandchildren.

Survivors include wife of over 42 years Jacque Isern of the home; sons, Tim (Beckie) Isern, Ryan (Tatum) Isern, &amp; Tyler (Cate) Isern; sister, Jane (Gail) Isern; brothers, Mark (Sheila) Isern and Myron (Jan) Isern; 9 beloved grandchildren, Blaine, Salena, Keaston, Morgan, Landry, Mya, Cole, James, and Mason.

Funeral Service will take place 11:00 AM, Friday, April 5th at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Kenton Abbott officiating. John Isern, age 73

Janna Vivian Huschka, 68, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, at her home in Hutchinson. Janna was born June 8, 1955, in Great Bend, the daughter of James and Joyce (Mohr) Lofland. On Aug. 20, 1977, she married Kurt Huschka in Great Bend. They shared 46 years of marriage together.

Janna graduated from Great Bend High School in 1973 and attended Barton Community College. She was a childcare provider and worked for Childcare Links in Hutchinson. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. She attended Central Baptist Church in Great Bend.

Janna was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James Lofland Jr., and a sister, Julia Barnes.

Survivors include her husband, Kurt; a son, Clint (Bianca) Huschka; a daughter, Bonnie Huschka-Cole; siblings, Jill (Derrel) Hopper, Jerry (Paige) Lofland, and Jackie (Lowayne) Lofland-Goosen; and four granddaughters, Lily Huschka, Savannah Huschka, Melita Huschka and Zoey Cole.

Carolyn Ann Musil, 76, passed away March 28, 2024 at the University of Kansas Health Systems - Great Bend Campus. She was born April 21, 1947 in Beloit, the daughter of Walter Henry and Wilma Marguerite Hobbie Reich. She was a secretary at Kansas State University and Osborne County Extension Service, and later, a farm wife and homemaker.

Carolyn graduated from Downs High School in 1965 and was a recipient of the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow award. On May 3, 1980, she married Elmer Lee Musil at First Lutheran Church, Manhattan, and they subsequently moved to Musil farm at Burdett in Pawnee County. From 1981-1986 she was a member of Pawnee County Extension Council, serving as chairperson of the executive board from 1984-1986; she also represented southwest Kansas on the State Extension Advisory Council, serving from 1984-1988. In 1989 she received recognition for her service on behalf of the Pawnee County Extension Council.

Carolyn was a past member of Burdett United Methodist Church, serving as their business manager for 26 years and participated in the annual quilt tying mission day. She also served as a Dodge City District UMW Officer. Carolyn served on the Executive Council at Burdett Senior Center and was a Pawnee County 4-H Leader.

In 2016, Carolyn and Lee moved to Great Bend. Carolyn then transferred membership to Trinity United Methodist Church. She was involved in Trinity United Methodist Women, and Lydia’s Circle.

Survivors include: a son, Richard Andrew Musil, Great Bend; two grandchildren, Connor and Briezlyn Musil, Great Bend and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lee.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Daniel Vandenburg presiding. Carolyn Musil, age 76

Patricia Ann “Pat” Stonebraker, 101, passed away March 28, 2024, at Aster Estates, Great Bend, Kan. She was born Beatrice Ann Drill on July 8, 1922, in Hazleton, Pa., to John and Dominica (Medyzin) Drill. Patricia married Donald Richard Miller September 23, 1944, in Topeka, and were later divorced. She then married J. Paul Stonebraker September 3, 1967, in Denver, Colo. He died October 29, 2003.

Pat, a longtime resident of Great Bend coming from Pennsylvania, Denver, and Topeka, had faithfully served as a Barton County Treasurer clerk for over 20 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church, former member of the First United Methodist Church, and enjoyed square dancing, knitting, crocheting, and sewing.

Survivors include two sons, David John Miller and wife Pat of Omaha, Neb., and Bernard Neil Miller and wife JoAnn of Boise, Idaho; one daughter, Patricia Ann Wheeler of Albuquerque, N. Mex.; seven grandchildren, Carl Wheeler and wife Christy, Anthony Wheeler, Charles Wheeler, Lori Miller, Valerie Miller, Nicole Miller, Mark Miller and wife Patricia; ten great grandchildren, Jaden Wheeler and wife Abbie, Keagan Wheeler, Braxton Wheeler, Kassidy Miller, Daniel Miller, Jacob Miller, Zachary Miller, Cassidy Carlson, Grace and Wyatt Nept; one great great grandchild, Ezra Wheeler; and daughter-in-law, Judith Miller of Albert, Kan.

Patricia 'Pat' Stonebraker, age 101

Frank Joseph Wapelhorst, 62, passed away March 24, 2024, at the University Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus, Great Bend. He was born Feb. 15, 1962, in Great Bend, to Daniel and Joyce (Sell Jensen) Wapelhorst.

Frank had previously been married to Jayne Kay Keffer from 1985 to 2000.

Frank, a longtime employee of Superior Essex, was a current resident of Great Bend previously living in Brownwood, Texas. He was a member of the Roman Catholic faith, numerous archery clubs, and was passionate about hunting and fishing. He was a talented athlete, playing softball, golf and basketball, even after being confined to a wheelchair.

Surviving are his parents, Dan and Joyce Wapelhorst of Great Bend; three sisters, Kathy Wapelhorst (Doug Clark), Paula Stocker (James Love), and Nancy Sawyer all of Great Bend; adopted son JR Griffith (Emily) of Johnson City, Texas; two adopted grandchildren, Adam and Ann Griffith; many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews; and feline companion, Cleo.

Memorial funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Father Terrance Klein presiding. A Rosary will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Bryant Funeral Home. He was born Feb. 15, 1962, in Great Bend, to Daniel and Joyce (Sell Jensen) Wapelhorst.Frank had previously been married to Jayne Kay Keffer from 1985 to 2000.Frank, a longtime employee of Superior Essex, was a current resident of Great Bend previously living in Brownwood, Texas. He was a member of the Roman Catholic faith, numerous archery clubs, and was passionate about hunting and fishing. He was a talented athlete, playing softball, golf and basketball, even after being confined to a wheelchair.Surviving are his parents, Dan and Joyce Wapelhorst of Great Bend; three sisters, Kathy Wapelhorst (Doug Clark), Paula Stocker (James Love), and Nancy Sawyer all of Great Bend; adopted son JR Griffith (Emily) of Johnson City, Texas; two adopted grandchildren, Adam and Ann Griffith; many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews; and feline companion, Cleo.Memorial funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Father Terrance Klein presiding. Barbara Jo “Barb” Ritter, 90, passed away March 21, 2024, at Spring Hill Care And Rehabilitation Center, Spring Hill. She was born April 13, 1933, in Tulsa, Okla. to Charles and Juanita (Baughman) Drake. Barb married Lugene C. “Gene” Ritter Sept. 30, 1951, in Hoisington. He died March 17, 2002.

Barb, a Great Bend resident since 2001 coming from Hoisington, was a dedicated employee of The 10th Street Eyecare Center, Great Bend, for many years previously working as a bank teller in Olathe and Yates Center. She was a member of First Christian Church, Great Bend, where she was active in several women's groups, and enjoyed traveling with Gene following his retirement. Gene and Barb traveled the country visiting family and visiting sites related to her genealogical endeavors. She was considered the family genealogist, spending over thirty years accumulating research regarding the family histories. Above all, Barb enjoyed time spent with loved ones, and from a very early age, was known as the family caregiver. Family was everything to her.

Survivors include two sons, Ben Ritter and wife Charlene of Oregon City, Ore., and Bob Ritter and wife Teresa of Spring Hill; daughter-in-law Karen Ritter (Doug) of Wichita; brother-in-law Dr. Keith Ritter and wife Becky of Hoisington; sister-in-law Mary Drake of Great Bend; eight grandchildren, Aaron (Natalie), Tisha, Ashley (Ahren), Amber (Chris), Natalie, Kathryn, Scott and Emily; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene (Lugene) Ritter; two sons, Doug (James) and Randy (Randall) Ritter; and three brothers, Chuck (Charles) Drake, Ed (Carl) Drake, and Jimmie Drake.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024, at First Christian Church in Great Bend, with Rev. William F. Johnson presiding. Interment will follow at Hoisington Cemetery, Hoisington.

Visitation will be Friday, April 5, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home.

Barbara Jo 'Barb' Ritter, age 90

Betty Jean (Wilson) McCord of Great Bend, peacefully went to be with her heavenly father on March 22, 2024, with family by her bedside. Betty was born on Nov. 18,1950, in St. John, daughter of Elvis and Virginia (Cubbage) Wilson Fox.

Betty graduated from Larned High School in 1968. She went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Emporia State University in 1972. On Dec. 20, 1979, she married the love of her life, Vernon McCord, who preceded her in death in February of 2012.

Betty truly enjoyed her work. She was an office manager for several businesses throughout her lifetime to include Eakin Construction, Larned, Kan.; C.V. Cale Co., and M&amp; F Plumbing both in Great Bend. She retired in 2011.

Betty was kind, loving, generous, patient, courageous and strong. She faced many issues with her health throughout her life, but she always kept a positive attitude and battled on ferverently. She and her husband enjoyed flipping houses and doing many projects around home or for others. They often would play cards with family and friends and travelled to many places. Betty enjoyed reading, mind puzzles, old Western movies, and HGTV. Her greatest joy was her family and never missed a chance to tell others all about them.

Betty is survived by her mother, Virginia Wilson-Fox of Hays, her children Andrea "Andie" Trevino (Jessie) of Great Bend, Jeff McCord (Ashlee) of Topeka; her siblings, Judy Gladow of Manhattan, and Linda Reichert (Thomas) of Hays; her Grandchildren Mackenzie McCord (Erik), Ezra McCord, Kalea McCord, Jayla McCord, Timothy McCord, Cooper Trevino (Alexis), Tucker Trevino (Mia), Letecia Tracy (Abraham), Jordan Trevino (Erika), Mikal Trevino (Shauzy), Mercedes Trevino, and Jessie Trevino, Jr. ; 15 great-grandchildren, with one on the way, 1 great-great grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Vernon McCord; her father Elvis Wilson, Step-father Raymond Fox; Grandparents Oscar and Goldie Wilson, Ralph and Beulah Cubbage.

Celebration of Life will be held at 5010 8th Street, Great Bend, at 3 p.m., Saturday May 11, 2024.

Mark E. Nichols, 75, passed away March 19, 2024, at Azria Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on November 10, 1948, in Great Bend, Kansas, to James and Ulanda (Karst) Nichols. Mark was a 1966 graduate of Great Bend High School, where he was very involved in various clubs and activities.

Mark was united in marriage to Barbie Mullin in Great Bend, Kansas in 1975.

Mark lived both in California and Wichita, Kansas, for brief periods of time. Living the majority of his life in Great Bend, he was the station manager for a time at KSN-C T.V., as well as a business owner and helped form Nichols Media Group. Sales were his true calling and what he excelled at. He was a salesman for Magnus Broadheads and provided advertising and marketing services for several area businesses.

Cremation has taken place. Services are pending. Memorials have been designated to the American Diabetes Association, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Robert Jay Michael “Robbie” Corcoran, 73, died March 21, 2024 at his home in Great Bend, Kansas. The son of Robert and Betty (Detter) Corcoran was born June 12, 1950, in Hoisington, Kansas. He attended schools in Hoisington, Kansas. Robert married Janet Cotten and to that union were born two sons, Patrick, and Aaron. They later divorced. He then married Connie Judd Michaelis Corcoran on August 26, 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; his sons, Aaron Corcoran of Great Bend, and Patrick (Trish) Corcoran of Valley Center; bonus-daughter, Kimberly Specht of Salina; bonus-son, Kevin Michaelis of Russell; sister, Cathy (Jim) Morris of Hoisington. He leaves grandchildren, Tyler (Christine) Corcoran of Tempe, Arizona, Abby and Dylan Corcoran of Valley Center, Patrick Gillen of Wichita, Remy Corcoran of Great Bend, Austin (Victoria) Michaelis, Madison (Hunter) Dean and Brooklyn Michaelis all of Topeka, Tyler Specht of Overland Park, Jacob Specht of Hays; and a great grandson, Waylen Dean of Topeka; He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ronald “Randy” Corcoran.

Robbie worked in the oil fields as a young adult and later for Boger Brothers Oil, Inc., in sales. He was co-owner of Oz Creations, Inc. After closing Oz Creations, he went to work for the Lyon County Department of Aging and AR Transportation, retiring in 2015. After retiring, Robbie enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, and boating with his family.

Cremation has taken place. Family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial service will be 11:30 a.m., Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with Chaplain Jeff Johnson presiding.

Robert Jay Michael 'Robbie' Corcoran, age 73

Loren Lee Ginther, 65, of Hays, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at a Wichita, Kansas, hospital from complications following a January 30, 2024, aortic dissection.

Loren was born December 3, 1958, in Hill City, Kansas, to John C. and Bonnie (Worcester) Ginther. The family moved to Hays when Loren was a young boy. He was a 1977 graduate of Hays High School, and received his B.S. degree in Business (Accounting) from Fort Hays State University.

Loren married Cheryl Oberle at St. Joseph’s Church in Ellinwood, KS, on June 16, 2001. He was formerly married to Sharon Disney with whom he had twin sons, Cole and Tyler.

Loren worked as a bank examiner for FDIC for 30 years, where he made many life-long friends. Since retirement in 2015, Loren and Cheryl together with their little rescue dog, Bo, enjoyed biking, daily walks at the Fort Hays State University campus, and kayaking at Lake Wilson. Loren was very generous and deeply introspective with an amazing memory. He loved listening to old rock and roll music, spending time with family and friends, and video-chatting with grandson, Constantine. He was also looking forward to the arrival of his first granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife Cheryl Oberle-Ginther of the home; sons Tyler Ginther, Hays, KS; and Cole Ginther (Jill), Rockville, MD, and grandson, Constantine; mother Bonnie Ginther, Hays, KS; siblings Lucy Ginther (Jim), Mason, OH; Carmen Ginther, Hays, KS; Carrie Sparkman (David), Eden Prairie, MN; Clay Ginther (Becky), Dodge City, KS; and Les Ginther (Karen), Rio Rancho, NM; mother-in-law Bernetta Oberle, Great Bend, KS; brothers-in-law Steve Oberle (Cindy), Great Bend, KS; Gary Oberle (Cheryl), Hotchkiss, CO; Bob Oberle (Torey), Topeka, KS; and Mike Oberle (Lisa), Wichita, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Loren Ginther, age 65

Fidel Delgadillo, 49, passed away March 19, 2024, at his home in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on March 23, 1974, in Durango, Mexico, to Jose Fransico and Maria Rosalia (Acosta) Delgadillo.

A resident of Great Bend since 1992 coming from Mexico, he worked as a general contractor in the construction industry. Fidel was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish and enjoyed listening to music while enjoying beverages.

Survivors include three sons, Mario Delgadillo of Denver, Colorado, Jared Hickeling, and Alex Delgadillo of Albert; two daughters, Adriana and Sandra Delgadillo, both of Great Bend; two grandchildren, Hazley and Samuel; his parents; two brothers, Roberto and Miguel Delgadillo, both of Great Bend; four sisters, Maria Mayela Delgadillo of Mexico, Maricela Delgadillo of Great Bend, Rocio and Edelmira Delgadillo, both of Chicago, Illinois; ex-wife, Samantha Naab; and many other loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Gerardo Delgadillo.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2024, with vigil at 7:00 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Father Prakash Kola presiding. Fidel was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish and enjoyed listening to music while enjoying beverages.Survivors include three sons, Mario Delgadillo of Denver, Colorado, Jared Hickeling, and Alex Delgadillo of Albert; two daughters, Adriana and Sandra Delgadillo, both of Great Bend; two grandchildren, Hazley and Samuel; his parents; two brothers, Roberto and Miguel Delgadillo, both of Great Bend; four sisters, Maria Mayela Delgadillo of Mexico, Maricela Delgadillo of Great Bend, Rocio and Edelmira Delgadillo, both of Chicago, Illinois; ex-wife, Samantha Naab; and many other loved ones.He is preceded in death by his brother, Gerardo Delgadillo.Visitation will take place from noon to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2024, with vigil at 7:00 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Father Prakash Kola presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery North. Memorials have been designated to the Fidel Delgadillo Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
