Robert Clarence “Bob” Hertel, 80, passed away peacefully April 30, 2024, at Medicalodges of Great Bend, Great Bend. He was born on July 9, 1943, in Hays, to William and Regina (Sander) Hertel.

Robert was a student at St. Rose Catholic School and was in the Great Bend High School graduating Class of 1962. He furthered his education at Fort Hays State University and graduated in 1966, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts. He was a member of Prince of Peace at St. Patrick Catholic Church. His military career took him to Germany from 1967 to 1970, where he proudly served during the Vietnam War Era. Robert worked as an Engineer Draftsman for Ruskin Manufacturing in Great Bend and Grandview, Missouri, before retiring in 1990. In his personal time, he enjoyed woodworking, stamp collecting, gardening, and was an electronics enthusiast. During harvest, Robert could be found on the farm assisting with field work, which he loved.

Survivors include sister; Kayleen Kern (Jerry) of Great Bend, brother; Gary Hertel (Diana) of Great Bend, brother; Daryl Hertel of Great Bend, sister; Cheryl Degenhardt (Kenneth) of Garden City. and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Prakash Kola presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, with Military Rites conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Mary Ann (Hertel) Dinkel of Victoria, age 97, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Hays Medical Center, Hays.

She was born Oct. 29, 1926, on the family farm near Munjor to Alex A. and Margaret (Pfannenstiel) Hertel.&nbsp; She married George F. Dinkel on May 11, 1964, at Victoria.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 2020.

Mary Ann was homemaker, a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis, and St. Fidelis Christian Mothers, and was a volunteer on the funeral dinner committee.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; 

She attended grade school in Ness City, high school at Sacred Heart Academy in Wichita, and the Sacred Heart College / Newman University.&nbsp; Prior to her marriage she taught school in Carlsbad, N.M., and Holcomb.&nbsp; She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, sewing and loved to dance.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Ellis, age 76 years, lifelong resident of Great Bend, passed away at Hays Medical Center in Hays on Friday morning, April 26, 2024.&nbsp; Gary was born on May 10, 1947, at Great Bend to Richard Lon and Lucille (Titsworth) Ellis.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to Clara May Roach on Oct, 28, 1967 at Great Bend – she preceded him in death on Jan, 1, 2013. Gary served in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1971 and worked as a welder and fabricator for American Trailers and Guthrie Trailers in Great Bend, and later worked in the Maintenance Department at Great Bend Packing prior to his retirement. Gary loved going to casinos and playing the Kansas Lottery and fishing, and dearly loved his family and his dogs Skipper, Maggie, and Charlie.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

Survivors include two sons:&nbsp; Brian Ellis and Brent (&amp; Chastity Ellis), all of Great Bend; three grandchildren:&nbsp; Chase, Chloe, and Chelsea Ellis; nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Clara May Ellis, his daughter Gina Ann Gugins on July 27, 2023, and two brothers (Holly and Jimmy Ellis).

Gary Ellis, age 76

Donald Gene Sample, 57, passed away from complications from Huntington's Disease on April 25, 2024.

Donald, also known as " Don, Donnie and D", was born July 16, 1966, in Hoisington, Kan., to Donald Ray Sample and Marilyn Sue (McFerrin). Donald married Shauna (Bonham) June 7, 1997, in Great Bend, and were later divorced.

Donnie was raised in the Great Bend area and stomped the grounds ever since. He enjoyed motorcycles, drag racing and was a talented mechanic. With a heart that lived on adrenaline, he was never one to shy away from new things, always challenging himself to learn. He attended the Goodland Technical School where he completed the course of study. In his younger years he first worked installing carpet, until he worked shortly for A-One Radiator. From that point he attained his CDL and went to work for Circle F Hauling for several years. After Circle F Hauling, he then went on to work at Concrete Vaults, Inc., where he happily worked for around 8 years, until he had to leave that profession unexpectedly. This is when he began his 15-year journey with Huntington’s Disease. For several years Don remained unemployed due to complications that restricted his abilities to function with day-to-day tasks. The progression of his disease lasted around 15 years up until his passing. Many may be unaware as to what Huntington’s Disease is. Huntington’s Disease is a neurological illness that affects the basal ganglia region of the brain. As the disease progresses, patients lose their motor functions and eventually lose the ability to walk or talk and at the end stage are often bed bound. Through all this he still managed to look for silver linings and conquered all the hardships this disease gave him.

Survivors include one son, Vincent Sample of Great Bend; one adopted son, Cody Allison and wife Miranda of Great Bend; one grandson and one granddaughter; and former wife, Shauna Rogers of Hutchinson, Kan.

Funeral Services will be at Noon Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, with Pastor Daniel Vandenburg presiding. Visitation will be from Noon until 8:00 p.m., Monday April 29, with the family receiving friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Joseph Henry Koch, age 57, of Larned, passed away on April 25, 2024, in Larned.

He was born Sept. 25, 1966, in Larned, the son of Ronald J. and Linda L. Wren Koch.

A longtime area resident, he had over 30 years experience in autobody painting. He was a warehouse manager for Auto Body Color and co-owner of Koch’s Kustoms. He was a member of the Santa Fe Trail Center Board and served on the Tired Iron Show and Boots and Brews Committees. He was a Board Member for the Larned Area Chamber of Commerce, Larned Chamber Ambassador, and former volunteer fireman with Larned Fire Department. He coached PeeWee Football and Youth Softball and belonged to the Larned Cornhole Club. He raced regionally for 20 years and won over 40 awards during his career, including 2003 Track Champion and the Sportsmanship Award at DCRP.

On March 15, 1997, he married Michelle L. Nash, in Larned; she survives.

Other survivors include: three children, Morgan Bixenman, Oakley, Joseph Wesley Koch, Larned, Alexandra (Marcus) McKinney, Windsor, Colorado; two sisters, Michelle (Kurt) Snyder, Cimarron, Melissa (Jeff) Moore, Larned; brother, David (Shaula) Koch, Broken Arrow, Okla.; four grandchildren, Stella, Behrett, McKenna, Landry; numerous nieces and nephews.

Joseph Koch, age 57

Connie Lou Chance Ratliff (née Dickey), 93, of Larned passed away on April 27, 2024, at Country Living in Larned. She was born to Dr. William O. Dickey and Alice Lucile (Lynch) Dickey on June 3, 1930, in Garden City.

Connie attended Larned schools and in 1948 married Paul V. Chance. They had six children and raised their family in Larned. Following Paul’s passing in 1989, Connie married Robert Ratliff.

After years of keeping the books at Chance Oldsmobile-Cadillac in Larned, Connie worked as a self-employed house painter and paperhanger. She also served as Pawnee County Clerk for a time.

She enjoyed sewing and knitting, making clothes for her girls when they were young. She also made many beautiful quilts and enjoyed the camaraderie of quilting with the ladies at First Presbyterian Church; her children and grandchildren treasure many of her quilts today. She was also active in Larned ladies golfing and loved living on the golf course in her later years, tending to her lawn and garden.

Connie will be deeply missed by her surviving family, including her children: Carol (John) Nix, Cristi (Terry) Carr, Cathy (Doug) Allison, D.J. (Ann) Chance, and Cory Chance; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; her brother, Dr. William C. (Karen) Dickey; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, infant son Kelly Joe Chance, brother Dr. Gary Dickey, son-in-law David Vratil, granddaughters Carrie Vratil and Amy Yeager, great-grandson Sam Doherty.

The family would like to thank the staff at Country Living in Larned for their care, compassion and thoughtfulness during Connie’s time there, and a thanks to Gentiva Hospice for their care these past few weeks.

A memorial service to honor Connie's life will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 at the First Presbyterian Church, Larned, with Pastor Bill Stapleton presiding. There will be no visitation and Inurnment will be in the Larned Cemetery.

 </figure>Connie Lou Chance Ratliff (née Dickey), 93, of Larned passed away on April 27, 2024, at Country Living in Larned. She was born to Dr. William O. Dickey and Alice Lucile (Lynch) Dickey on June 3, 1930, in Garden City.Connie attended Larned schools and in 1948 married Paul V. Chance. They had six children and raised their family in Larned. Following Paul’s passing in 1989, Connie married Robert Ratliff.After years of keeping the books at Chance Oldsmobile-Cadillac in Larned, Connie worked as a self-employed house painter and paperhanger. She also served as Pawnee County Clerk for a time.She enjoyed sewing and knitting, making clothes for her girls when they were young. She also made many beautiful quilts and enjoyed the camaraderie of quilting with the ladies at First Presbyterian Church; her children and grandchildren treasure many of her quilts today. She was also active in Larned ladies golfing and loved living on the golf course in her later years, tending to her lawn and garden.Connie will be deeply missed by her surviving family, including her children: Carol (John) Nix, Cristi (Terry) Carr, Cathy (Doug) Allison, D.J. (Ann) Chance, and Cory Chance; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; her brother, Dr. William C. (Karen) Dickey; several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, infant son Kelly Joe Chance, brother Dr. Gary Dickey, son-in-law David Vratil, granddaughters Carrie Vratil and Amy Yeager, great-grandson Sam Doherty.The family would like to thank the staff at Country Living in Larned for their care, compassion and thoughtfulness during Connie’s time there, and a thanks to Gentiva Hospice for their care these past few weeks.A memorial service to honor Connie's life will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 at the First Presbyterian Church, Larned, with Pastor Bill Stapleton presiding. Wilbert Joseph “Billy” Sanko, 37, passed away April 20, 2024, at the University Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus, Great Bend, Kan. He was born August 13, 1986, at Great Bend, to Michael and Claudia (Salbashian) Sanko.

Billy, a lifetime resident of Great Bend, had been employed as a machinist at GBI. He was a member of Prince of Peace at St. Rose Catholic Church and enjoyed off roading, cruising the river, hunting, fishing, camping, and hobby mechanic work. Billy was full of character, the life of the party, and could always turn life’s lemons into lemonade.

Survivors include his parents; one brother, Christopher Sanko and wife Merry, and their children Immalee and Kasper, all of Great Bend; and three half brothers, Lucas Sanko and Danny Sanko, both of Oklahoma, and Frank Costelli of Florida; and significant other, Andrea Wallis of Great Bend.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2024, at St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Prakash Kola Funeral Service. Ricky Gene “Rick” Blakesley, 64, of Hutchinson, died April 22, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. &nbsp;He was born July 12, 1959, in Russell, to Claude Ray and Margaret Ellen (Boxberger) Blakesley. &nbsp;

Rick graduated from Hays High School in 1978, National College in 1996, and the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, in 1980. &nbsp;His work career was quite varied. &nbsp;Rick was a deputy for the Barton County Sheriff’s Department, oilfield worker for B.J. Titan, team member at Arconic (formerly Alcoa), before retiring from Reno County Youth Services and the Reno County Public Works Department.

Rick was a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68 and volunteered every year at the National Junior College basketball tournament. &nbsp;He supported the Hutchinson Salthawks, Hutchinson Blue Dragons, and enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas University basketball. &nbsp;In his spare time, he collected coins, worked on old cars, and rode his motorcycle. &nbsp;Above all, Rick loved his family. &nbsp;He was a proud son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother. &nbsp;Rick was always there to support his three children in their school activities, take family vacations, and spoil and tease his six grandchildren. &nbsp;He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

On May 18, 1985, he married Lori Michelle Otte, in Great Bend.

Rick is survived by: &nbsp;his wife of almost 39 years, Lori Blakesley of Hutchinson; children, Audree Lynn Blakesley Senestraro (Adrian Joseph) of Lawrence, Emile Michelle Blakesley Frantz (Dylan Jeffrey) of Lubbock, TX, and Tanner Blakesley (Claire Morgan Gee) of Topeka; grandchildren, Maddison and Maia Senestraro, Maddex and Brynley Frantz, and Avery and Eleanor Blakesley; parents, Claude and Margaret Blakesley of Salina; siblings, Ginny Neil (Allan) of Derby, Tina Burtzloff of Salina, and Rodney Blakesley (Barbara) of Urbandale, IA; and his beloved dog, Cosmo.

He was preceded in death by: &nbsp;his grandparents, Ted Boxberger, Leona Price, and Vernon and Delia Blakesley; brother-in-law, Tom Burtzloff; and his beloved four-legged Zoey.

Sandra Jean “Sandy” Sandy, 68, passed away April 17, 2024, at Azria Health Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on July 6, 1955, in Nash, Oklahoma, the daughter of Lavene Vadell Cranston. Sandy married Bruce Kilgore; they later divorced. She then married Preston Sandy on April 1, 1996, in Great Bend, Kansas.

A resident of Great Bend since 1993, having grown up in Enid, Oklahoma, and later living in Ellinwood, Sandy worked as a professional bookkeeper for many years at Aaron's Repair. She was the former vice president of Great Bend Desk and Derrick. Sandy enjoyed bowling, softball, crafts, gardening, and collecting. For 30 years, Sandy also had a passion of breeding and raising Scottish Terriers. The families and individuals who bought Scotties from her often became close friends, whom she continued to keep in touch with for years.

Survivors include her husband of the home; step father, Don Cranston of Wichita; children, Chianna Hemken and husband Brent of Larned, Maria Cavender of Great Bend, Kristopher Kilgore of Ellinwood, and Madisen Woodruff and husband Austin of Ellinwood; stepchildren, Billy Sandy of Great Bend, Corey Sandy and husband Josh of Wichita; sister, Sharon Schartz of Houston, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her mother, and sister, Shelli Ehret.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 1-8 pm on Friday May 31, 2024, with family receiving guests from 5-7 pm at Bryant Funeral Home. Richard “Dick” Dailey, 89, passed away April 20, 2024, at Azria Health Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on October 24, 1934, in Great Bend, Kansas, to John and Edith (Kummer) Dailey. On July 3, 1964, he married Merna Stone in Denver, Colorado. They later divorced, with their union being blessed with two daughters and a son prior. Dick then married Martha “Martie” Taylor on October 19, 1984. She passed in June 1988.

A resident of Great Bend for over 30 years, having spent time in Colorado and various other states, Dick worked as a cashier for Dillons while in Kansas and assistant manager at King Soopers in Colorado. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Because of this service, he was able to take part in a Kansas Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2014. Dick was member of the Prince of Peace Parish, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion Post #180, serving as commander. Dick was dedicated to volunteering with these groups, including adoration, bingo and Helping People with Disabilities Tootsie Roll Donation. He was a talker, who enjoyed good conversation and supporting his community and nation.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra Rutt and husband Chuck of Windsor, Colorado, and Sandra Dailey of Severance, Colorado; granddaughter, Kyla Rutt of Windsor, Colorado; first wife, Merna Dailey; sixteen nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; and stepdaughter, Felicia Taylor of Georgia.

He is preceded in death by infant son, Richard Jr.; wife, Martie; his parents; five brothers, James, William, Jack Jr., Donald “Dee”, and Jerry Dailey; and six sisters, Gwen Bible, Peggy Dailey, Patricia Dillard, Eleanor Dailey, Dorotha “Dottie” Hershey, and Janiece Burke; and nephews, John Dailey and Paul Hershey.

Mary E. Volpert , 81, passed away April 5, 2024, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born Nov. 5, 1942, in Chanute, the daughter of Benjamin and Lula (Taylor) Shaner. She married Everette Volpert Aug. 6, 1972, in Junction City. Everette passed away Dec. 18, 2002.

Mary, a resident of Great Bend since 2015 coming from Florida, Arkansas, and Manhattan, had been in hotel management for many years. She had also had the pleasure of being employed as a cook and house mom for Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, at Kansas State University. She was a Life Member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Auxiliaries, enjoyed fishing, fellowship at the Great Bend Senior Center, crocheting, and, in her younger years, was active with several bowling leagues and CB Radio clubs.

Survivors include one son, Stephen Volpert and wife Dee of Great Bend; three daughters, Teresa Dimond and husband Jeff of Chanute, Jeanette Hodges of St. George, and Debbie Wisehardt of Manhattan; step-daughter, Nancy Volpert of Kent, Wash.; stepson, Jeff Volpert and wife Trina of Topeka; one sister; and 23 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her husband Everette; one stepson, Greg Volpert; one son-in-law, Willard Hodges; and six brothers and four sisters.

Wanda Raelene Prowse, 69, passed away Jan. 30, 2024, in rural Smith County. She was born Sept. 27, 1954, in Lyons, to Dwight D. and Lou Ann (Mitchell) Ritterhouse. She had previously married Mark Bartlett, Jr., at Great Bend, later marrying Daniel Prowse on Jan. 7, 2000, in Albert.

A current Natoma resident coming from Cimarron, Syracuse and Great Bend, Wanda, a cosmetologist at heart, was a paraprofessional and bus driver for USD 399 in Natoma. Previous to her U.S.D. 399 employment, Wanda was employed by Hamilton County FSA, Ingalls Feed Yard, Bryant Funeral Home, CPI, CKMC, and JC Penney hair salon. She was a member of Mother of Twins, and enjoyed BINGO, bowling, attending rodeos, fellowship with friends, and above all, was a very proud and dedicated wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma.

Survivors include, her husband, Daniel Prowse, and son, Colton Prowse, both of the home; two daughters, Amanda Mitchell (Bradley) of Pratt and Andrea Bartlett (Tracy) of Great Bend and; three brothers, Robert Ritterhouse and wife Lois of Albert, Lyle Ritterhouse and (Darcy) of Lyons, and a brother that was recently discovered, Robert Price of College Station, Texas; a sister, Susan Hendricks and husband Harry of Raymond; three grandchildren, Cheyanne Bartlett, Cassidee Hoch and Mary Hoch; a great-granddaughter, MaKena Moss; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Wanda was preceded in passing by her parents Dwight and Lou Ritterhouse; and a nephew, Darren Ritterhouse.

Celebration of Life services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Natoma Elementary Gymnasium, 610 3rd St., Natoma, with Pastor Thayne Sparke presiding. Wanda Prowse, age 69

Marilyn Ann Redetzke, 91, died April 19, 2024, at Aster Estates in Great Bend. She was born on April 25, 1932, at the Atkins Hospital in Hoisington. Marilyn was the second child of Leo and Cecilia (Schauf) Redetzke. The family moved several times before settling on the family farm one mile east of Susank, Kansas in July of 1941.

Marilyn attended District 103 grade school in Susank, and graduated grade school in April of 1946. She attended her freshman year of high school at Hoisington High School, her sophomore year in Great Bend High School, and junior and senior years at Mt. Carmel Academy in Wichita, Kansas. Marilyn then attended Mt. St. Scholastica College in Atchison(now Benedictine College), graduating with a B.S. in Elementary Education in May of 1954.

After graduation, Marilyn taught 41 third graders at Blessed Sacrament Grade School in Wichita for 2 years. (Sept. 1954 to May 1956). She then taught third and fourth graders for two years at District 54 in Odin until May of 1958.

Marilyn then moved to San Francisco, Calif. and went into the insurance business in September of 1958, working for Liberty Mutual in San Francisco for 6 ½ years. She then took a European trip and upon return she went to work for Aetna Life &amp; Casualty in Leawood from March 1965 until May 1, 1994, when she retired.

In 1996, Marilyn moved to Hoisington to live the life of leisure.

Marilyn enjoyed doing crafts, bowling, playing cards and some gardening. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where she taught CCD to the kindergarten class and was a Eucharist minister for the homebound. She was also an active member of the Altar Society working at many church funeral dinners.

Survivors include: a brother, Norman Redetzke and wife Pam of Salina, two sisters, Jeanne Reilly of Pittsburg, Calif., and Bernie McCay and husband Art of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a sister-in-law, Pat Redetzke of Hoisington; she was blessed with 28 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Maurice, Leo “Butch” and Clarence Redetzke; and two sisters, Eileen Larkin and Cecilia Monaghan.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, with Vigil and Rosary service to begin at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Warren Stecklein. Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m., Friday at St. Catherine Cemetery, Dubuque, Kansas.

Marilyn Redetzke, age 91

Michael Edward Wilson, 67, died April 18, 2024, at Clara Barton Hospital, after a hard-fought battle with COPD. He was born November 18, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Jack and Sherry (Mayberry) Wilson. Michael worked as a welder most of his life and later worked for the Larned State Hospital as a MHDD.

On July 5, 1989, he married Dixie Schwinn. She survives. Other survivors include; sons, Cody Wigren of the home, Eddie Joe Wilson of North Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter Jamie Marie (Charlie) Maybe of West Bountiful, Utah; step-daughters, Amy Wigren of Great Bend, Misty Rigby (Harley Bramer) of Newton, Kerri (Brandon) Maxwell of Hoisington, Amanda Rigby of Great Bend; sister, Debbie Allen of Bountiful, Utah; grandchildren; Pearl, Sammie, Uriah, Tayvin, Morgan, and Kyra; and many step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy Joe Wilson, D.J. Wilson, and Keith Murphy, and a step-daughter, Kelli Lee Kaler.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service at a later date.

Michael Wilson, age 67

Dennis was born to Clarence &amp; Lucile (Richardson) Lebbin on May 26, 1942 in Great Bend, Kansas. He passed away April 19, 2024. He graduated from Ellinwood HS in 1960. Dennis proudly served in the Army from 1962-1965. He worked as Office Manager in the 3rd INF HG to AG in Wurzburg, Germany and was Office Manager in the 7th Army HG to the Assistant AG in Stuttgart, Germany. Dennis then graduated in 1967 from KSTC in Data Processing and had his career in Wichita, Kansas. He married his wife, Carol (Small) on August 28, 1966.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 58 years; his two sons, Mark (Helen), El Dorado, Kansas, and Paul (Valerie), Ottawa Ontario, Canada; 6 grandchildren, Hannah, Rebekah, Holton, Xavier, Noah and Aiden; great-grandson, Sam; brother Kenneth (Robin), Ellinwood, Kansas; sisters, Judy (Richard) Jenisch, Sublette, Kansas; Trisha (Rob) Dove, Ellinwood, Kansas.

He enjoyed collecting classic cars, American Flyer electric trains and all things collectible. He never missed a game that his boys played. He loved his family, his hometown of Ellinwood and the church where he received his foundation. His faith in God was strengthened in recent years as he battled health issues.

Funeral services will be 10 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, Ellinwood with Pastor Thomas Thierfelder officiating. Interment with military honors by United States Army will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation will be Wednesday 1-8 PM with family present from 7-8 at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. Veronica Elaine Keenan, 43, Lenexa, Kansas, formerly of Larned, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at her home.

Veronica was born July 28, 1980, in Larned, Kansas, the daughter of Micheal and Patricia (Anschutz) Keenan. She was a resident of Lenexa, Kansas, for three years, moving from Easton, Kansas. A 1998 graduate of Larned High School, Larned, Kansas, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Kansas in 2003. She was a medical lab scientist at the University of Kansas Cancer Center, Kansas City, Missouri.

She was a University of Kansas Alum, and a proud associate of the University of Kansas Health System.

Survivors include: her parents, Micheal and Patricia “Pat” Keenan, Larned, Kansas; two brothers, Carl Keenan, Lenexa, Kansas, and Bill Keenan (Kara), Kinsley, Kansas; her niece Sophie Keenan, Kinsley, Kansas; and a close personal friend, Candice Norman, Lawrence, Kansas.

Veronica Keenan, age 43

Sue Reiter-Wells, 90, passed away April 18, 2024, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kansas. She was born on February 2, 1934, in Shamrock, Missouri, to W.S. and Ethal (Lail) Armstrong. Sue was a 1952 graduate of Montgomery City High School and then went on to attend the University of Missouri from 1952-1955, where she met her first husband, Robert R. Reiter. They were married on June 25, 1955. Bob and Sue lived in California and then Ottawa, Kansas prior to moving to Great Bend in 1967 to run Bob Reiter Chevrolet dealership.

He passed away on September 9, 1975, after a battle with Leukemia.

Sue later married M. Dean Wells on August 12, 1980, at Trinity Lutheran Church surrounded by their kids. They had many wonderful years together watching their family grow. Between fifteen grandkids, they stayed busy traveling to attend all the activities they were involved in. Dean left her side on March 17, 2011.

A long-time resident of Great Bend, Sue stayed at home raising the kids, however, following Bob’s passing, she proudly operated Bob Reiter Chevrolet for 15 years until selling the business in 1990.

Sue was a member of the First Christian Church, Delta Gamma Sorority at the University of Missouri, and served many board positions for different organizations: president, guard, chaplain, corresponding secretary, and treasurer for P.E.O. Chapter DU, president of Great Bend Panlelleni’s, and treasurer for the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include seven children, Robert H. Reiter (wife Linh), Jacqueline Quick (husband Allen), Barbara Reiter, Scott Wells (wife Tammy), Mark Wells (wife Starla), Brett Wells (wife Donna), and Blake Wells (wife Christine); fifteen grandchildren, Nicole, Hunter, Tanner, Hayden, Brock, Blain, Braydon, Brandon, Bryce, Katie, Matthew, Thomas, Mikaela, Luke, Nathan; and eight great grandchildren, Jaiden, Gideon, Taylor, Crew, Luxe, Chiara, Beck and Bennett.

She is preceded in death by first husband, Bob Reiter; daughter, Lori Reiter; second husband, Dean Wells; parents; and siblings, Betty Nudelman and Larry Armstrong.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2024, with family receiving guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Jessica R. (Young) Turner passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning on April 12, 2024, at Via Christi Village, Manhattan, Kansas. She was born on August 22, 1926 in Hattiesburg, MS to James Cully Ratcliff and Etta (Poole) Ratcliff.

Jessica was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and 2 sisters. She was next to the youngest in a family of 8 children.

She met her future husband, A. Finley Young while he was working for Coleman’s in Hattiesburg, MS. They were united in marriage on August 25, 1946. To this union were born 3 daughters, Patricia Ann, Diana Lynn and Marsha Kay, and one son Keith Wayne who preceded her in death in 1978.They were married for 24 years when Finley died in 1970.

Jessica and Finley raised their children on a farm in Larned, KS. She was a busy farmer’s wife feeding harvest crews, planting gardens, helping repair farm equipment when Finley needed assistance. She was a wonderful seamstress, sewing clothes for the daughters, prom dresses and a suit for Keith when he requested, because he felt left out. She competed in the county extension sewing contests; and won top prize.

Jessica decided to go back to work in 1963 part-time at JC Penney in Larned after the children were in school; and continued with that job until 1971. She went to work as bookkeeper in the Pawnee County Treasurers Office and continued that job until her retirement in 1987.

Jessica saw to it that Diana, Marsha and Keith all attended college, and they all graduated from K-State University.

Jessica married Alvah A. Turner on July 23,1982 at Glen Eyrie Castle in Colorado Springs with their children and spouses in attendance.

In 1987 Alvah and Jessica moved to Memphis, TN so he could attend seminary, with the hopes of teaching in a small Christian college. While, he was attending seminary Jessica re-decorated the entire townhouse; and landscaped the courtyard. An undertaking she really enjoyed, even taking a class to learn the particulars of landscape architecture. Jessica enjoyed the city living; and she lived close enough to her siblings in Mississippi to travel to see them often during the 5 years they were in Memphis.

Jessica and Alvah returned to Kansas in 1992 choosing to make their home in Hutchinson, KS. They were active in the Baptist and Methodist churches in Hutchinson as they had a

blended faith marriage. This afforded them the opportunity to meet many new friends in Memphis and Hutchinson.

Jessica became a widow for the second time in 2004 when Alvah passed away. She stayed in Hutchinson until she moved to Manhattan KS in 2014, where Patricia and she built townhouses next door to each other.

She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Griffin, Manhattan, Kansas, Diana(Paul) Nickel, Manhattan, Kansas, Marsha K. Young, Greer, South Carolina. Her grandchildren Jason(Felicia) Nickel, Brian(Melissa)Nickel, Juliana(Travis)Myers, Tara(Spencer)Metcalf, and Trent Beaver. She has 11 great-grandchildren.

She is a member of the Blue Hills Baptist Church in Manhattan; was active in the American Baptist Women’s group at the church.

The Celebration of Life will be held at Beckwith Mortuary, 916 Main, Larned, Kansas on Saturday, April 20,2024 at 1:00pm, with Paul Nickel presiding, burial will be in Larned Cemetery following the service.

Jessica (Young) Turner, age 97

Larned – Erik C. Jensen, age 55, of Larned, Kansas passed away on Sunday April 14, 2024 in Larned.

He was born October 10, 1968 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Donald Arthur and Grethe Rostgaard Petersen Jensen.

Erik was a graduate of Larned High School, and attended Vo-Tech school for Auto-Body Repair. Erik was recently employed with the Pawnee County Landfill and Ward Feed Yard. He enjoyed both hunting and spending time at the lake with family and friends.

Survivors Include: his mother, Grethe Jensen, Larned; son, Christian (Alexis) Jensen, Colorado; daughter, Brianne Jensen, Colorado; six grandchildren; three siblings and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Donald Jensen and a nephew, Taylan Donaho.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a celebration of memories from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2024 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. A private family inurnment will be in Larned Cemetery.

Erik Jensen, age 55

Dianne Marie Willesden , 70, passed away April 17, 2024, at her home in Great Bend. She was born November 3, 1953, in Cushing, Okla., the daughter of Ralph and Eloise (Grow) Dolezal. Dianne married Robert William Willesden, II., June 23, 1979, in Great Bend. He died April 25, 2023.

Dianne, a long-time resident of Great Bend, was a professional bookkeeper working many years for Carl Boxberger Oil, Co., and later operating Willesden Bookkeeping and Willesden Finishing Touches. She was an active member of Faith Community Church, Pilot Club, Golden Belt Community Concert Association, Encounter Church, Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA), Women of Valor, and Kiowa Gun Club. In Dianne's spare time, she enjoyed Philanthropic endeavors, crafting, and her new-found calling, dog sitting.

Survivors include her children, Brian Ewing of Great Bend, Brandy Gaddis and husband Mark of Wichita, Robert W. Willesden, III, and wife Debbie of Hoisington, Tiffany Nily and husband David of Great Bend, and Aimee Farris and husband Bill of East Troy, Wisc.; one brother, William Dolezal, Sr., and wife Joleen of Beatrice, Neb.; sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her parents, husband, Robert William Willesden, II., and by a brother Randy Dolezal.

Dianne Willesden, age 70

Cecil Orliss Cheney, 94, passed away February 24, 2024, at home in Hoisington, Kan. surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 17, 1929, at Dundee, Kan., to James and Rosa (Myers) Cheney. Cecil married Leona Erb June 20, 1948, in Hutchinson, Kansas. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary together in June of 2023.

Cecil, a resident of Hoisington since 1952 coming from Hutchinson, had been a long-time employee of KPL. He started as a service technician and retired in May, 1992, as a the local manager of the Hoisington office. Previous to his employment at KPL, Cecil worked in the oilfield, was a cook at various area restaurants, and was a dedicated employee of the City of Hoisington, serving on the police, electrical and water departments. Never having idle hands, following his retirement, Cecil worked in the produce department at Town and Country Supermarket. He was a member of Hoisington United Methodist Church, Lake Barton Golf Club, and a former council member for the City of Hoisington. He enjoyed fishing, cooking and calling Bingo at the V.F.W, however, above all he enjoyed time with family, whom he loved so dearly. Among his many interests, he was most passionate about golf, having a great fondness for his golf family.

Survivors include his wife, Leona Cheney of the home; two daughters, Carolyn Mitchell and husband Jim of Prescott, Ariz., and Jolene Sparks and husband Darrel of Perry, Okla.; four grandchildren, Shari Carter (Darrin), Daren Sparks (Laurie), Amy Mitchell, and Wesley Sparks (Lindsey); five great-grandchildren, Braydan and fiancée (Lauren Duncan), Cassidy and fiancé (Will Oldham), Cale, Kendall, and Lincoln; one great-great-granddaughter, Paisley; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by five brothers, Harold, Kenneth, Eugene, Jerry and Raymond.

Family will greet friends on Friday, April 26th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Cecil Cheney, age 94

Carolyn Sue Leigan, 79, of Silver Lake, died Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

She was born on Aug. 9, 1944, in Hardtner, the daughter of James Melvin Jones and Opal Pearl (Tredway) Jones.

Carolyn was a 1962 graduate of Medicine Lodge High School and received her Associate’s Degree from Barton County Community College in Great Bend. She also held a cosmetology license. She was a Systems Operator for various electrical companies in Great Bend.

Surviving are one son, Dean (Tanya) Pierce of La Crosse; one daughter, Melissa (Steve) Holder of Topeka; seven grandchildren, Tessa, Cole, and Blake Pierce, Tracy, Steven and Lance Holder, and Stephanie Powell; 10 great-grandchildren, Kaden, Skyler, Bella, Steven, Brody, Eli, and Violet Holder, Josh and Lindsay Hupp, and Alex Powell; two sisters, Joann (Chuck) Motter of Lenexa, and Joyce Bell of Isabel; several nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, Jennifer Holder and four siblings, Marvin Jones, Virginia Jones, Wallace Jones and infant Melvin Jones.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, with Pastor Tom Walters officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Carolyn Leigan, age 79

Ruby Brown, 92, passed away April 17, 2024, at Aster Estates, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born February 27, 1932, in Protection, Kansas, to Harry and Emma (Reich) Schultz. On August 25, 1954, she married LaVern L. Brown in Ashland, Kansas. He passed on January 29, 2020.

A resident of Great Bend since 1965, Ruby previously lived in Liberal and Protection. She worked as a cosmetology instructor at Barton County Academy of Beauty from 1965-1980, then at Barton Community College for 18 years, before her retirement in August 1998. Along with that career, she owned and operated L&amp;R Oil alongside her husband. Ruby was a member of Prince of Peace Parish – St Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed working out at Club 1 Fitness, attending Golden Belt Community Concerts, watching sports – especially KU volleyball and basketball, and keeping up with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include son, Tom Brown and wife Shari of Great Bend; daughter, Pamela Bechard and husband Raymond of Lawrence; two grandchildren, Ashley Henkelman and husband Erik, and Brennan Bechard and wife Danielle; six great grandchildren, Evie, Hutch, Mason Jane, Lucy, Mack and Bo; and brother, Roy Schultz of Waxahachie, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; four brothers, Joe, Virgil, Elmer, and Robert Schultz; and five sisters, Gladys Schultz, Osie Danielson, Viola Hazen, Luella Stutzman, and Goldie Anderson.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2024, with Altar Society Rosary at 4:00 p.m., family receiving guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Vigil at 7:00 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Ruby Brown, age 92

Edward Benjamin Galliart, Jr., 70, died Friday, April 12, 2024, at his home in Hoisington. He was born June 23, 1953, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Edward Benjamin Galliart, Sr. and Oma Mae (Smith) Galliart.

 </figure>Edward Benjamin Galliart, Jr., 70, died Friday, April 12, 2024, at his home in Hoisington. He was born June 23, 1953, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Edward Benjamin Galliart, Sr. and Oma Mae (Smith) Galliart.In the summer of 1972, July 8th he married Sonya Kay McKay. To this union two children were born, Edward Benjamin Galliart, III and Crystal Marie Galliart. They had 13 years together, but they later divorced.Edward worked in the oil field working for Dresser Atlas Oil and N.L. Acme in his earlier years and then went on to be an over the road truck driver. He later worked as the building supervisor for the Scottish Rite Temple in Wichita retiring at the age of 52 due to health reasons. Edward loved golfing, working on his truck, and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. He was quite the jokester and was always making silly noises and playing practical jokes on his family, but in all sincerity, it was done in love. He loved his family, his kids and grandkids and genuinely missed his parents. He also deeply missed his loyal four-legged companion Bear.He is survived by his children; Edward Benjamin Galliart, III and wife Angie Anderson-Galliart of Great Bend, and Crystal Marie Brown and husband Brian of Newton; sister, Glenna Mae Ritchie of Great Bend; ex-wife, Sonya Viegra and husband Tim of Great Bend; and six grandchildren, Trinity Galliart of Havasu City, Arizona, Elijah Shah and Chelsi Cordray of Sterling, Mikayla L. Galliart and Steven M. Sexton II, Kayden Benjamin Galliart, and Tatum and Keelon Anderson, all of Great Bend; and a great-grandson, Liam Matias Shah.Friends may sign the book now until service, there will be no viewing as cremation has taken place. Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2024, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Don Fisher presiding.
