Davis Jimenez represents Ward 3 on the Great Bend City Council and was approached by members of the U.S. Army Reserve in Great Bend to improve their parking situation. Located at 2222 19th Street, directly across the high school, representatives from the Reserve requested authorized parking in front of their building on 19th Street.

"It's for security reasons as well," said Jimenez. "Their authorized parking now has seen vehicles parking in their area. It's for a little more security."

At Tuesday’s meeting, there was hesitation from councilmembers to restrict the parking that is often used by high school students. The council said they would need more information on the Army Reserve’s reasoning before discussing the matter.

Last March, the council voted to remove all 15-minute parking stalls designated for businesses following a request from the Great Bend Tribune to have a special parking stall on Forest Avenue in front of their business. The nine existing 15-minute parking stalls were removed which included two stalls in front of City Hall on Williams, three for Equity Bank on Main Street, two for Hejny Liquor on Main, one for That One Groomer on Williams and one for Lumpy’s Bar and Grill behind their restaurant on Forest Avenue.
