Actionable items were light during Tuesday's Barton County Commission meeting. The board heard from Commissioner Barb Esfeld, who recently attended the Kansas Legislative Policy Group's annual meeting in Russell last week. County Works Director Chris Schartz presented an action item on road work in the northeast corner of the county.

"The city of Clafin, every year, requests assistance from the road and bridge department to seal certain roads in the city of Claflin," he said. "This year, they are looking at doing all of Fourth Street."

Schartz said the city and county also clarified the contract to include Park Street instead of Pine Street. This year's project will also include West Williamson Street throughout much of the city.

"We were going to do Williamson from Sixth Street as far as we could get," Schartz said. "It's probably going to be Main Street, just depending on how far the oil goes. We usually do 3-4 roads, depending on the size of the roads."

The commission approved the project. As an independent contractor, the county will receive no more than $6,000 in labor and equipment costs for the work. Schartz said the city of Claflin usually pays for the tanker of oil required for the seal.
