Betty Jean Shaver, 87, died October 26, 2024, at Bradfield Terrace Assisted Living, Mesquite, Texas. She was born December 5, 1936, in Hoisington, Kansas, the daughter of Martin and Anna (Lauber) Younger. Betty graduated from Hoisington High School in 1955.
On November 8, 1958, she married Leslie Karst in Milburger, Kansas, to this union two daughters were born, Nancy and Rhonda. They later divorced. She then married Franklin Shaver on October 20, 1978, in Hoisington, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 29, 2014.
A longtime Barton County resident, Betty grew up in Hoisington and later lived in Galatia, Milburger, and finally Great Bend. She worked as a registration clerk for Central Kansas Medical Center for 25 years and was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Hoisington. In 1997 they moved to Royce City, Texas. While in Texas she was a member of the Joy Lutheran Church in Rockwall. She was also the resident ambassador at Bradfield Terrace. Her favorite past times where her love of reading, embroidery, and spending time with family. She also loved coming back to Hoisington to visit.
Survivors include; daughters, Nancy Karst and companion Lonnie Philbern of Great Bend, and Rhonda (Karst) White and husband J.D. of Royse City, Texas; sisters-in-law, Joyce Karst of Hoisington, Barbara Younger of Emporia, Judy Shaver of Larned, and Ruth Shaver of Sachse, Texas; and her honorary grandsons, Maximus Norris and Harley Norris of Blue Ridge, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Franklin Shaver, and brothers, Al, Paul, Leonard, and Jerome Younger, and sisters, Martina Luebbers and Mary Ann Funk.
Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with Pastor Delvin Strecker presiding.
