As a service to the community, a local organization provided free
haircuts to children 17 years old and younger last Friday at three locations in
Barton County. Communities Organizing to Promote Equity, known as COPE,
provided 108 free haircuts.
COPE was formed in Barton County to identify and reduce barriers to health and
wellbeing for all residents.
COPE Lead Callie Miller said last month that offering free
haircuts prior to the school year starting is just one way the group can assist
the underserved.
"We've learned that, with the underserved community, sometimes things like hygiene are taken for granted," said Miller. "Things like haircuts for their kids when they're heading back to school. This allowed people that may not be able to afford it help their kids get ready for the school year."
Lox Salon and Furbs Hair Studio in Great Bend and 5th Street Hair
Studio in Ellinwood all participated in the event.
