Robert Yarmer, 64, died November 16, 2022. He was born to Vernon and Arlene (Stoss) Yarmer on July 5, 1958. He grew up on a farm in rural Russell County near Galatia.

He attended St. Ann’s Catholic Elementary School through the 8th grade.  Then graduated with the class of 1977 from Russell High School.

He married the love of his life, Valerie Brummer on October 10th, 1981. Together they raised their four children; Megan, Devan, Andrea, & Audra on their farm in southwest Russell County.  He loved spending time with his children, hunting, fishing, working with horses, dancing, and playing cards.

Robert was a rancher and farmer his whole life. When he was younger he enjoyed hunting and farming with his Grandpa.  As the years passed Robert worked hard to grow the family farm.  If he wasn’t at the farm, he was working at the sale barn or selling seed. Later, he helped Devan on the farm by watching on-line auctions and bull sales for him.

Building relationships with people was one thing he did best. Robert had a heart of gold and was always willing to help a neighbor. He didn’t know a stranger and had the personality to talk with anyone.  He loved entertaining everyone with a story and a joke and would often leave them smiling ear to ear. Robert had a huge heart and was very giving. He would often makegifts in his free time from horseshoes and wood.

Something Robert enjoyed most of all was being with family.  He loved taking his grandkids on wheelchair rides, teaching them how to play checkers, and telling stories especially of hunting and fishing.  Robert also loved driving around looking at crops and cattle.

Robert was a member at St. Ann Catholic Church, Olmitz Knights of Columbus Council #2100, Russell County Farm Bureau, and a past trustee of the Winterset Township Board.

He is survived by his mother, Arlene Yarmer of Russell; wife, Valerie of the home, and four children, Megan (Jared) Herl of Hays, Devan (Meggy) Yarmer of Russell, Andrea (Greg) Wertz of Bedford, Pennsylvania, and Audra (Cory) Brown of Oakley; nine grandchildren, Saige, Wyatt, and Maverick Herl, Troy and Trent Yarmer, Augustus and Catherina Wertz, and Ava and Colter Brown; sisters, Rhonda (John) Glassman of Russell, Rebecca (Allen) Cameron of Grant City, Missouri, Rochelle (Curtis) Kuhn of Victoria, a brother, Verlin (Susanne) Yarmer of Russell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Vernon Yarmer.
