Jeffery Donecker is one of four candidates vying for the District 1 seat on the Barton County Commission. Donecker, along with the other candidates, participated in the League of Women Voters Great Bend – Barton County forum last week.

Donecker is the co-owner of Little Giant Fittings and has been a member of the Claflin Fire Department for 17 years.

"The youth is what I'm going for," said Donecker. "My son moved home from college and started a career in Great Bend. I'd like to keep him here. I'd like to build Great Bend, Barton County and the surrounding area. What can we do for our communities to make them better?"

Donecker has spent time coaching youth football and focused his forum responses on attracting the younger generation to the county. Serving on the Claflin City Council in the past, Donecker said keeping the mill levy consistent is important.

"One of the big things was to never drop the mill levy," said Donecker. "I know a lot of people are going...really? If you hold onto the keel, and all of sudden you drop it, what happens when something breaks, or your infrastructure goes south? We have to have that money. Dropping taxes isn't a good deal. Bringing up the tax base is a good deal."

Matthew Gerritzen, Linda Moeder and Duane Reif are also running for the District 1 position. Eagle Radio will be featuring each of these candidates throughout the week.
