Time is winding down for anyone interested in Barton County that wants to file for a local political office. The deadline to file is June 3 at 12 p.m.

Outside of the Ellinwood Hospital District Board, there are no contested races yet with city candidates in Barton County. Great Bend City Administrator Brandon Anderson said there will be four ward positions for the city council available in the upcoming primary election.

"We have a position open in each ward," said Anderson. "Lindsey Krom-Craven in Ward 1 is up, Kevyn Soupiset in Ward 2, Davis Jimenez in Ward 3 and Tina Mingenback in Ward 4 is up."

For the Great Bend council, Gary Parr has filed for Ward 1 and current councilmember Soupiset has refiled for Ward 2. No one has filed for Ward 3 or Ward 4.

On the Barton County Commission, Barb Esfeld and Shawn Hutchinson have refiled and are currently uncontested.

Interested individuals can pick up applications to file at the County Clerk’s Office inside the courthouse in Great Bend.

A list of candidates that filed can be found at bartoncounty.org.
