The first day of classes for most USD 428 Great Bend students is Thursday, Aug. 14. But first comes enrollment. District Public Information Director Andrea Bauer said online enrollment for returning students kicked off on July 17 at greatbendschools.net.
"Families can access that through their Skyward family access," she said. "For those who may need help completing that online enrollment, or for new students to the district, they can stop by Aug. 4 and 5 at their attendance centers to get that started."
Onsite enrollment at Little Panthers Preschool and elementary schools is Monday, Aug. 4 from 1-7 p.m. Great Bend Middle School enrollment is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. that same day, and Great Bend High School enrollment is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The same sites will be open on Aug. 5 with preschool and elementary enrollment from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the same times as Monday for the middle and high schools. Bauer said after that, USD 428 is ready for business as usual.
"Student safety and security always remain a top priority for us, so we're implementing a new standard response protocol for families," she said. "They're going to hear a lot about that in the coming weeks. Besides that, we want to see kids in school where we know they can grow and succeed. Especially this year, attendance will be a focus on making sure we stay connected and engaged with families and students."
Grades PreK through 6 and seventh will have a full first day of school on Aug. 14. Freshman orientation is from 8:05 a.m. to 2 p.m. at GBHS. The first day of classes for grades 8 and 10-12 is Aug. 15.
