Great Bend Post
In the upcoming weeks, the baseball and softball seasons will be ending
at the Great Bend Sports Complex. The conclusion will mark the first season
with the new artificial turf at all five of the ballfields.
As part of a financial collaboration with the City of Great Bend and USD 428,
the Great Bend Recreation Commission agreed to handle the annual maintenance of
the fields.
GBRC Assistant Superintendent Chris Umphres said Hellas Construction will return to
Great Bend to perform professional sweep cleaning services at a cost of
$6,750.
"We have a turf maintenance yearly agreement with Hellas, and we'll start that this year," said Umphres. "I think they're coming the first week of September. They fill the rubber pieces and fix anything. It's an eight-year plan."
A $1.37 million project wrapped up this past winter by Hellas Construction that
placed turf on the infields and bullpen areas of the five fields at the Sports
Complex.
