Continental Pools arrived in Great Bend early October to start on the new $680,000 splash pad to be installed at Veterans Memorial Park. This week, crews are pouring concrete for the 50' x 70' feature. Great Bend Assistant City Administrator Logan Burns estimated another month on the splash pad project.

Further east, the design phase is picking up momentum for the $2 million in improvements at Brit Spaugh Park.

"We're meeting this week to go over 100% design development with BG Consultants," said Burns. "Then we'll be on to the construction documents. That's going to start moving pretty quick."

Plans at Brit Spaugh Park include an outdoor basketball court, pickleball courts, mini soccer pitches, playground and a restroom facility on the south side of the park. Construction documents are expected to be complete by the end of January 2024 for the city to proceed with bids.

The splash pad and part of the Brit Spaugh Park improvements will be funded through the .15% quality of life sales tax.
