The Barton Community College men's golf team opened its 2026-27 season Monday and Tuesday with an eighth-place finish at the Carmichael Cup held at Salina Municipal Golf Course.
Playing the opening two rounds Monday, the Cougars carded rounds of 288 and 291 before slipping back with a final-round 305 Tuesday to finish at 44-over 884 in the 11-team field.
Scoring was plentiful throughout the tournament as the top three teams finished under par, led by Hesston College's 16-under championship total, while seven individuals completed the 54 holes under par with two others finishing at even par.
Barton also flashed its share of red numbers during the three rounds with Phattarapol Ongla and Landon Timmermeyer each opening the tournament with 1-under 69s before Antonio Vidal fired a 1-under 71 in Tuesday's final round.
Kobey Jackson provided the Cougars' most consistent scoring, tying for 21st among the 60-player field at 5-over 215 behind rounds of 72, 71 and 72.
Ongla and Timmermeyer finished tied for 27th at 8-over 218. Following his opening 69, Ongla carded rounds of 74 and 75, while Timmermeyer followed his opening 69 with a 71 before closing with a 78.
Vidal's final-round 71 moved him into 32nd place at 10-over 220 following Monday rounds of 75 and 74.
Rasmus Ruhala placed 52nd at 28-over 238 on rounds of 78, 80 and 80, while Tatum Ford rounded out the Cougar entries in 54th at 34-over 244 following rounds of 84, 75 and 85.
The Cougars are back on the links next Monday, competing in the two-day 12th Annual Central Kansas Classic held at McPherson's Turkey Creek Golf Course.
