The housing shortage in Central Kansas has been well documented. Stafford County Economic Development is trying to alleviate some of those concerns with nine new homes soon for sale. Eco Devo Director Ryan Russell said the dirt work has started on two of those properties.

"We have to clear some of the land," he said. "We're moving a pole off one piece of land that's with the gas and electric company. We're moving trees. There's a lot of stuff that has to happen to get prepared for this besides the paperwork part."

Five of the homes will be built in St. John with four more being built in Stafford. Housing Opportunities, Inc. will be the general contractor and will use sub-contractors from Stafford County for the construction.

"We have two different designs," he said. "One design will be for the first two houses, and the seven houses will be another design. If people are interested in buying these houses, they're three bedroom, two bath. They'll be nice houses and we're excited to be building them."

Anyone interested in purchasing one of the homes can contact Russell for more details by calling the Eco Devo office at (620) 549-3527, or by emailing [email protected].
