Ruth Risser, 96, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Monday, January 17, 2022, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Ruth was born December 29, 1925, in La Crosse, Kansas, the daughter of Jacob M. and Mary (Heronema) Herrman.  She was a resident of La Crosse, Kansas, for 10 years, moving there from Garden City, Kansas.  She was an elementary teacher for 38 ½ years before her retirement.  Along with her classroom duties, Ruth was in charge of the music and children’s choir.

She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Ruth was a talented musician, playing the organ and piano.  She loved craft projects of any kind and was an amazing artist.  She enjoyed the challenge of working crossword puzzles.

On June 9, 1973, she married Arthur “Art” Risser at LaJoya, New Mexico.  He preceded her in death on December 22, 1988.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Mary Winn Ekstrom; four step-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Herrman, La Crosse, Kansas, and Ralph Herrman, Ames, Iowa; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband;  a stepson, Arthur “Art” Risser, Jr.; three brothers, Leonard Herrman, Edward Herrman, and Reverend Gilbert Herrman; and six sisters, Esther Boxler, Abbie Rupp, Isabel Basgall, Edna Mehl, Irene Raniszewski, and Pauline Sutton.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 19, 2022, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas.  A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. 

Church visitation will be Thursday, January 20, 2022, from 9:00 A.M. to 9:50 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Father Stephen Dabanka officiating.  Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Liebenthal, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family request memorials to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, or masses.
