Many projects take place during the summer for school districts, but the number one project that Hoisington USD 431 Superintendent Patrick Crowdis gets asked about more than anything else is the turf and track replacement at the high school.
Crowdis showed the Board of Education visual updates this week on
the $1.597 million replacement of the artificial turf field and track.
"The contractor uses a transit on the field," said Crowdis. "They work their way north to south and back to the north to make sure the turf was perfectly straight. Everything worked off of the 50-yard line. They actually stuck pins in the ground."
The turf is in place and ATG Sports Industries is still working on replacing
the track. Student athletes will begin making use of the field for the first
day of high school practices on Aug. 14.
"Just to give you a little perspective...every arrow, number, the cardinal logo, the letters in the endzone and every hashmark were hand-cut and hand-glued in," said Crowdis. "It's meticulous work."
The previous turf was installed more than 13 years ago.
