John Siefkes, age 77 years, passed away at his home in Great Bend early on Friday morning, May 3, 2024. John was born on December 1, 1946 at Stafford, Kansas to Harold Earl and Glendoris Minnie (Kottwitz) Siefkes. He grew up in Ellinwood, Kansas and graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1965. He was united in marriage to Gloria V. Barney on June 29, 1968 at Honolulu, Hawaii. John served proudly in the U.S. Navy returning to Ellinwood in 1970 then moving to Great Bend in 1975, where he had worked in Automotive Body Repair for Reiter Chevrolet, Julian’s Body & Frame, and Marmie’s Collision Center and later worked at Water’s Hardware in Great Bend for a number of years. John attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for many years. He loved to bicycle with his wife Gloria, and together they each logged over 120,000 miles on their bicycles. John was a true craftsman at whatever he endeavored, whether it was woodworking and picture framing, gardening, or working with stained glass his perfectionism shined through.
Survivors include his wife Gloria V. Siefkes of Great Bend; two sons: Michael John (& Michelle) Siefkes of Nashville, Tennessee and Jesse John Siefkes of Great Bend; one daughter Nicole Renee Siefkes of Kansas City, Missouri; nine grandchildren: Brynn (& Brock) Allen, Cherstin (& Ryan) Siefkes-Kane, Davis (& Samantha) Siefkes, Nicholas Siefkes, Reece Siefkes, Henry Siefkes, Cyenne Pulliam and Hunter Pulliam; one great-grandson Frankie Siefkes-Kane; one sister Charlotte (& Dwight) Young of Great Bend; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has been chosen. Memorial Services were held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 6, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 5851 Eisenhower Avenue in Great Bend. Internment will take place in the Great Bend Cemetery North at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Golden Belt Humane Society at Great Bend.
