When introduced to the Great Bend City Council Monday night, the newly hired Great Bend Economic Development Director Sara Hayden acknowledged that she chose an interesting degree path for ending up as an Economic Development president.

With a degree in musical theatre from Friends University, Hayden served as an administrative assistant for a commercial real estate company, assistant manager at a home design and décor business, sales manager at a clothing store and regional event coordinator at The Buckle.

"I was not hired for my vast knowledge of economic development," said Hayden. "I do have an unparalleled passion for this city. I'm so glad to plant my own roots here now."

Hayden is a Great Bend native and after stops in Maine, Arizona and Hutchinson, she was ready to move back to her hometown.

"I have a readiness to jump in and learn everything I can," said Hayden. "Please feel free to reach out with any recommendations or resources you may have because I am ready for all of them."

Hayden replaces Jessica Milsap. After starting the position in February, Milsap publicly announced her resignation in early June to return to selling real estate and personal training.

"Milsap did a great job in the few months she was there," said Great Bend Economic Development Board of Directors member Mark Calcara. "She created a great platform for our new executive director."
