Barton County Commission meeting agenda (July 28)

On July 28, 2026, the Barton County Commission are scheduled to hear the following items as their regular meeting:

APPROVAL OF APPROPRIATIONS: -Bev Schmeidler, County Clerk, will present details. An Accounts Payable Register will be submitted to the Commission for the period of July 14, 2026, and ending July 28, 2026.

NEW BUSINESS - COUNTY CLERK’S OFFICE: Request for Approval – Added / Abated / Escaped / Refunded Taxes: -Ms. Schmeidler will present a listing of Added / Abated / Escaped / Refunded Taxes. Orders for these actions are kept on file in the County Clerk’s Office. These are used to correct assessments and are requested by the County Appraiser’s Office or the County Clerk’s Office.

CITY OF CLAFLIN: Cooperative Effort to Repair Roads: -Chris Schartz, County Works Director, will provide details. The City of Claflin has requested assistance with sealing of certain roads. As an independent contractor, the County would receive no more than $7,500.00 for labor and equipment with the City providing for the oil.

EXECUTIVE SESSION: -Chairman Duane Reif will present. Any Commissioner may make a motion for the board to recess to executive session at this time as allowed by K.S.A. 75-4319. Any motion must contain the justification for the executive session, the subject matter to be discussed, any individuals in addition to the board who will attend the executive session and the time at which the regular session shall resume.

ANTICIPATED ANNOUNCEMENT: -Barton County is participating in the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce Run Ready Civic Leadership Lab. This initiative is a one-day immersive look at the essential role of public institutions. It is anticipated that the group will arrive at the Courthouse between 1:45 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to meet with the Commission and administrative staff. The session is scheduled to end at 2:45pm.
