Great Bend football is not used to losing. The team has been one of the most consistent in Kansas over the last few years, but two weeks in a row, the Panthers have been outmatched and taken lopsided losses. The good news for Great Bend is that the Panthers aren't done yet. As they get ready for Friday's game against Mulvane, head coach Erin Beck says he and the team are taking the right lessons from the losses.

"Sometimes winning can hide things, where losses can expose them. It forces you to have some honest conversations with yourself, look at yourself in the mirror and figure out, 'What am I going to do to make this team better?' I think we've had a lot of those conversations with ourselves and with the team, and  we've rallied around it so. Here we go. 4A West is wide open, and we start right off the bat with a really good team in Mulvane."

Senior Cole Fanshier said that it's up to the senior leaders on the squad to lead the team in the right direction when the tough moments come.

"Seniors, captains, we discussed from a leadership perspective, that it kind of starts from the top. And we can work that discipline back in. It sounds funny to say but we're not used to losing, obviously, so two weeks in a row, guys start to get thoughts they've never had before. I think once we start picking it up, once we start intensifying at practice, once we start doing what we're supposed to every day, getting these guys back in the right headspace. That trickles down. That's how we're going to get back into five more wins."

Great Bend and Mulvane kick off Friday, October 30th at 7, with coverage at 6:30 on B104.3 The Point.
