Plans are known to change. Alex Elmore earned his EMS certification while a senior at Hoisington High School. After graduating in 2022 and spending some time in the field, he decided to try a different course. On Feb. 22, Elmore graduated from barber school. He will return home to work with Jared Keenan at Brick Road Salon and Boutique, 701 N. Main Street in Hoisington.

"After school, I worked for the city for a year to build up some cash so I'd be able to go to barber school," Elmore said. "Finally, in February I left, got an apartment in Wichita, and started learning how to cut hair."

Elmore will cut men's hair, specializing in fade cuts. He also offers razor shaves and beard shape-ups.

"I'm just looking forward to making people feel better than before they came in and giving back to the community that raised me," he said.

Brick Road is currently working on getting a line of beard products developed by Hoisington resident Keith Kennon. Elmore may someday have a line of his own to offer. Elmore will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 8 a.m. until late afternoon on Saturdays.
