From UWCK
United Way of Central Kansas, with support from Credit Union of America, is inviting the community to help local students start the school year prepared by participating in the annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive on Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Walmart and both Dillons locations in Great Bend.
Stuff the Bus collects school supplies that are distributed directly to Great Bend schools to help meet student needs throughout the school year. Monetary donations are also accepted and allow United Way to purchase high-need items or provide funds directly to schools as needs arise.
Nearly half of households in Barton County are living below the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) threshold or in poverty, making back-to-school expenses a challenge for many working families. Community support helps ensure every student has the supplies needed to succeed in the classroom.

Community members are encouraged to donate items such as composition notebooks, notebook paper, binders, folders, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, glue sticks, headphones, reusable water bottles, hygiene items, and individually packaged snacks.
United Way is also seeking volunteers to greet shoppers and collect donations during the event. One-hour volunteer shifts are available between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., making it an easy way for individuals, families, businesses, and civic groups to get involved.
Can't make it to the event? Donations may be dropped off in advance at the United Way of Central Kansas office, 2000 Washington Street, Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
To volunteer or learn more, contact United Way of Central Kansas at 620-792-2403 or visit the website at www.uwck.org/stb.
