
On Monday, Aug. 1 at about 8:45 a.m., a deputy sheriff with the Barton County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a vehicle on US-56 Highway, near milepost 219, for a traffic violation. This location is just east of the city of Ellinwood.
The driver continued east, refusing to stop for the deputy. The suspect vehicle crossed into Rice County, at which point it turned around at a residence and began traveling back west on US-56.
The deputy pursued the vehicle back into Barton County where it turned south on 150 Avenue and stopped a short distance from US-56 Highway.
The driver, identified as Dontae Lamont Adams, age 31 of Great Bend, was placed under arrest for attempted felony fleeing and eluding and no driver’s license. During the course of the investigation, deputies located suspected marijuana.
Adams was transported to the Barton County Jail without incident where he was booked on requested charges of felony flee and elude, no driver’s license and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
