Roughly 400 fourth graders from Barton County experienced the agriculture life at last year’s Kids Ag Day, and organizers are expecting similar numbers for next week’s event.
The 29th annual Kids Ag Day is Sept. 7 and will allow the grade school students a chance to get more familiarized with farming and the ag industry.
Ag Day Chairman
Scott Dewerff said everything is set up at Koelsch Family Farm for the
experience.
"We have everything mostly in place," said Dewerff. "We have volunteers, schools and food lined up. We're just hoping for good weather next week."
Many demonstrations and activities are planned for the fourth graders as they
bus over to the Diamond K farm.
"The only change we had was the gentleman doing the horseshoe demonstration could not make it this year," said Dewerff. "We now have Heartland Farms bringing an alpaca for the petting zoo and will do a demonstration on their operations of organic farming."
Dewerff thanked the many sponsors, contributors and volunteers that have assisted
with Kids Ag Day since it first started in 1994.
