Great Bend Economic Development Director Sara Arnberger said the construction of the childcare center is “knock on wood…still on schedule.” Presenting to the Great Bend City Council Monday night, Arnberger said the Advancing Barton County Childcare (ABCC) committee is hoping to have the opening next March.

The childcare center will be open for 59 children to start with and will have 11 employees, eight fulltime and three part-time positions.

"We have had calls daily on waitlists and when we're hiring," said Arnberger. "All of those things are going to come out on our abccinc.org website in December. That is coming very quickly."

The $1.6 million facility is being constructed at the corner of 10th Street and K-96 Highway in Great Bend. Funds were raised for the 6,500-square-foot daycare, and the committee received a $2.23 million grant to help construct a similar daycare facility in Hoisington.
