Several Great Bend car owners have been the victim of hit-and-run accidents over the past 18 months. The latest incident totaled a 2004 Ford Taurus in the 1200 block of Harrison Street on Wednesday, July 10. Raymond Wong, who owns the vehicle, said the crash occurred sometime between 8:30 and 10 p.m. that evening.
"The police got ahold of me about 10 after 10, wanting to know if I owned a white vehicle," he said. "I told them, 'Yes, I do. It's right there.' It wasn't there. It was down the street in front of somebody's driveway."
The impact pushed the passenger car into the next block. Wong, a retiree, only had liability insurance on the vehicle so it is a complete loss to him. Fortunately, he was able to find some clues in the wreckage.
"Whoever hit my vehicle left enough broken pieces out there that I picked them up," Wong said. "A few of them had numbers so I took them to Marmie's Chevrolet and had them look up the parts number. They said it was either a Sonoma or Colorado with extensive damage to the front end."
Based on the paint transfer left on the Ford, Wong said the hit-and-run pickup is likely copper or brown in color. Anyone with information about the accident is encouraged to call the Great Bend Police Department at (620) 793-4120 or Great Bend Crime Stoppers at (620) 792-1300.
