The short-handed Barton Community College wrestling team returned to action Sunday at the UCM Roger Denker Open held in Warrensburg, Missouri.
Fielding a five-man lineup, the Cougars combined for a 4-10 record in the double-elimination format that featured 202 competitors from 19 different colleges.
Barton will return to conference play Thursday evening hosting their final home dual of the season against No. 9 Pratt Community College in a 7:30 p.m. start from the Barton Gym.
Colin Little 149-pounds paced the Barton lineup generating a 2-2 day on the mat. The freshman opened his day cruising to a 23-6 tech fall over Andrew Orloski of Quincy University while dropping to the backside in his next bout behind a 0:31 fall. Responding quickly, Little stormed back with a first period back flattening over Jared Wright of Central Methodist University before getting derailed in his fourth match in approximately 30-minutes to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M's Gavin Montgomery.
Despite dropping their first bouts of the day, Jamal Garrett (125) and Edgar Duarte Quiroz (184) each battled back to secure a victory before bowing out to conclude the day 2-1. Garrett secured his lone victory on the day with an second round fall while Duarte-Quiroz advanced following a medical forfeit win.
Joshua "AJ" Almanza (133), Keyven Schroeder (197) and wrestling unattached Matthew Cook (149) each dropped their pair of battles to conclude the results.
