
Great Bend Post Sports
The Great Bend High School bowlers were back in action at the Walnut Bowl Monday afternoon with Hays and McPherson in town. The Lady Panthers beat Hays by nearly 800 pins and took all 13 Western Athletic Conference points. McPherson finished 135 pins behind Hays. The Panther boys took nine of the 13 WAC points against Hays and defeated the Indians by 80 pins. McPherson finished just 46 pins behind Hays on a competitive afternoon.
Scores were largely down across the board on the girls' side. Panther junior Zoey Mayberry rolled the only 500 series with a 573. She opened with games of 195 and 204. Brooklynn Mayberry just missed a 500 by eight pins, topping out with a 181 in game two. Abigail Alvarez was consistent on the day with a high-game of 160 for a 459 series in third place. Emery Meza rolled a 172 in game two for a 409 series, Kyra Calvert ended her day with a 154 for a 400 series, and Layne Soukup finished at 364.
The Lady Panthers also dominated Baker games though the first game was a low-scoring affair at 112-110-105 with Hays in second. Great Bend turned it on in game three for a 171 to beat Hays by 53 pins.
The Panther boys took two of the top-five individual spots. McPherson's Rayce Stiggins rolled games of 234 and 256 for the high-series at 660. Hays' William Clark had games of 196 and 221 for a 568.
Xander Orth led Great Bend with games of 202 and 190 for a 547 series in third place. Brantley Vsetecka finished just four pins behind him with games of 182 and 188 for a 543 series. After two 159 games, Quinten Miller broke out with a 190 in his final game to reach 508 pins. Kanyen Parr opened with a 192 game for a 484 series, Deagan Miller rolled a 476, and Josh Manning overcame a slow start to finish at 475. Tyler Pelster rolled games of 192 and 196 for a 550 series in junior varsity action.
The boys' Baker games were highly competitive. Hays rolled a 171 in game one to beat Great Bend by just three pins. McPherson took the next game, and Hays bounced back to win the final two games.
