Let the summer activities begin. Each Thursday, from today through October, the Barton County Health Department and the city of Great Bend offer the Summer Street Stroll Farmers Market at Jack Kilby Square in downtown Great Bend from 4-7 p.m. The market features a variety of fresh produce and handmade items from local vendors.
"I know we're set for an exciting start," said Katelyn Sigler, educator at the Barton County Health Department. "In addition to our usual fresh produce and honey, we have some new offerings this season. Fresh strawberries will be available today, along with beautiful stained-glass pieces and other handmade items. Tomatoes will also be available today."
The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program gives low-income seniors 60 years of age or older the opportunity to buy more fresh produce. Seniors who qualify for the program will receive 10 $5 certificates to be used throughout the 2024 Summer Stroll season. Interested seniors can apply for the program beginning June 3 at the Barton County Health Department.
