An investigation was conducted from public right-of-way on the accessory structure at 1441 9th Street. The City of Great Bend Building Inspector Matt Schafer referenced the roof of the structure has collapsed and exposing the building to the elements.
Assistant City Administrator Logan Burns said the rafters and roof structure are hanging into the alley and exterior wall covering is missing.
"It's an accessory structure...it was a gable building," said Burns. "All the trusses fell over, exposing everything. You can see the entire roof structure is just open. There's deterioration on the outside and is not secure from entry."
Schafer noted the structure hanging out into the alley creates a hazard for traffic. There is also an accumulation of lumber on the ground beside the alley. Schafer felt the structure fell under the definition of a dangerous building.
The Great Bend City Council approved a resolution setting a public hearing for the property on Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
