Great Bend Post
The City of Great Bend reminds citizens that it is time for residents to get their lead and copper surveys in to receive their $25 credit. You still have time to submit your survey as the deadline is Aug. 31, 2023.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) wants to make sure all lead and copper water pipes are replaced across the country. Public Works Director Jason Cauley said after the deadline the city will find other ways to get the required information for EPA.
"We'll have to start doing more research," said Cauley. "We'll go through some of our documents and see what information we can glean from that. We may have to start looking at other avenues to get information from citizens to find out what their service lines are. Maybe contact plumbers or landlords."
Individuals can fill out the survey online or print a copy from the website (greatbendks.net) to be dropped off at any location where your utility bills can be paid or you can mail it to PO Box 1169, Great Bend, KS 67530.
Cauley said between 1,000 and 1,500 citizens have filled out the questionnaire, roughly one-sixth of what is required. The survey asks residents what pipe material is the service line pipe entering the house, what year was your service line installed and what size of pipe is the service line.
If you have turned in a questionnaire, you can expect to start seeing the credits appear on your September bill if your survey was completed accurately and completely.
