Sharon and Leon Alexander and Michelle Abedi were approved for a
conditional use permit to allow the operation of an Air BnB in an R-1 zone
located at 2107 27th Street in Great Bend.
With the addition of the house on 27th Street, Great Bend Building
Official Logan Burns said at Monday's Great Bend City Council meeting there will be 13 Air BnB homes within city limits.
Notice of the request for the conditional use permit was given to surrounding
landowners within 200 feet of the real estate. No complaints or comments were
made at the Great Bend Planning Commission meeting in August.
Leon Anderson said they determined there was a lot of activity in the community
and wanted to make use of the house.
"There seems to be a big demand for special use," said Alexander. "This is a family home owned by my wife's parents. When they passed, we kept it but weren't sure what we were going to do with it. My wife didn't really want to sell it, so I wanted to generate some kind of revenue to keep our taxes paid, basically."
Alexander said the house was gutted with new plumbing, electrical, repainted
and there are plans to construct new fencing and landscaping next spring.
