LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers president Stan Kasten has addressed online speculation about the team's future under owner Mark Walter. He stated that the Dodgers are not for sale and no process has started to sell the team. This speculation began after Walter agreed to sell the Los Angeles Lakers for a record-breaking price. Kasten emphasized Walter's commitment to the Dodgers, dismissing any connection to ongoing tax fraud investigations involving Walter’s business empire. Walter, based in Chicago, has led the Dodgers to significant success, including three World Series championships in six seasons. Kasten praised Walter's dedication to the franchise.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star Andy Pages fractured his left hand after being hit by a pitch against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bubba Chandler's pitch struck him in the third inning. Pages took first base and advanced to third before the inning ended. Manager Dave Roberts says X-rays revealed the break. He believes the center fielder could return in four to five weeks. Pages is having a strong season, hitting .272 with 25 home runs and 80 RBIs. He earned his first All-Star selection this year.
ZANDVOORT, Netherlands (AP) — George Russell starts the second half of the Formula 1 season in style as he eases to a sprint race victory ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix. Russell started from pole position on Saturday, quickly built a gap to Lando Norris in second and didn’t look back from there. It was his first win since the Austrian Grand Prix in June. Charles Leclerc snatched second off Norris with a daring pass into the inside of the first corner with six laps to go. Norris held off a late charge from Russell’s Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli to stay third. Antonelli was fourth.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Tommy Edman singled in the winning run with two strikes, lifting the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 in 10 innings. Edman's line drive scored Kiké Hernández from third, keeping the Dodgers undefeated in extra innings this season. Evan Phillips got the win with one inning of relief. The Dodgers have won four in a row for the first time since July and have taken eight of their last 11 games. Pittsburgh's Oneil Cruz tied the game with a two-run homer in the eighth. Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto struck out nine and allowed two runs over six innings.
DENVER (AP) — A federal appeals court has temporarily halted a court order that would have granted thousands of athletes an extra year of eligibility. This decision comes just eight days before the college football season begins. The lawsuit was filed by players who graduated high school in 2022 and were not included in the NCAA’s new rule granting most players five years of eligibility. The ruling puts a hold on the situation until the appeal can be fully heard. The NCAA argues that fairness is subjective, as current athletes and schools have already built their rosters based on existing rules.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Wyndham Clark is making it look easy at the BMW Championship. He has gone bogey-free at Bellerive with a pair of 64s and has a one-shot lead. He also has another crowd favorite right on his heels. Gary Woodland is golf's feel-good story as he continues his recovery from 2023 brain surgery. Woodland already won this year at the Houston Open. He shot a 65 and will be in the final group with Clark before a Missouri crowd that is good with cheering on a Kansas native. J.J. Spaun celebrated his 36th birthday with a 66 and was two back.
PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks are in a tight playoff race with 34 games left. They're trying to focus despite distractions, like Ketel Marte's mysterious disappearance during a road trip in Boston. Four days later, the team is still figuring out how to move forward. Manager Torey Lovullo says he felt betrayed but has moved past it. Marte was placed on the injured list with knee inflammation after a meeting with Lovullo, the general manager, and his agent. Teammates are eager for an explanation, hoping Marte can return healthy to help push for the playoffs.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx co-owner Marc Lore has agreed to sell his controlling stake in the franchises to limited partner Marc Stad at a $4.5 billion value barely a year after his purchase was finalized, according to a person with knowledge of the deal. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because details of the agreement were not being publicized. Lore is a New York e-commerce entrepreneur. His partner and former baseball star Alex Rodriguez bought the NBA and WNBA clubs from Minnesota businessman Glen Taylor. That $1.5 billion sale got league approval in June 2025.
DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks and Klay Thompson have agreed on a contract buyout, ending a two-year tenure that was wrecked by the shocking trade of Luka Doncic. A person with knowledge of Thompson plays says the five-time All-Star intends to sign with the Miami Heat once he clears waivers. Thompson joined Dallas in a sign-and-trade with Golden State believing he could be another 3-point threat and a plus defender alongside Doncic and another high-scoring guard in Kyrie Irving. Instead, Doncic was traded in the middle of his first season and missed the playoffs in both of Thompson's seasons. He was a four-time champion alongside Stephen Curry with the Warriors.
