El Dorado - Kale Kern singled home what proved to be the winning run in the top of the 6th inning Thursday, and the Great Bend Braves would hold on for an 8-7 victory over Pittsburg at the American Legion Class-A State Tournament. The win moves the Braves in Thursday night's winner's bracket final against the winner of El Dorado and Marysville who are playing Thursday afternoon.
Kern had a huge day with two hits, a single, and bases clearing double in the fifth that that gave the Braves their first lead of the game. Pittsburg tied the game in the bottom half of the inning setting up Kern for more heroics in the sixth.
Great Bend had 12 hits include two each by Kern, Jaxon Wondra, Ian Premer, and Wednesday's hero Colin Saffa.
Trey Milsap started on the mound and went five-innings before Peyton Oelger came on to pitch the final two frames to pick up the win.
The winner's bracket final is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. Thursday night.
