The Great Bend City Council approved a $35,381 purchase to replace the primary wet well pump. The primary wet well has two pumps that alternate in pumping sewage to the upper headworks.

Public Works Director Jason Cauley said in July one of the pumps quit operating. The city has been operating with one pump since then.

"We wanted to see if it was worth having it repaired or just buying a new pump," said Cauley. "After doing the assessment, the cost of the repair was more. We are going with a different brand due to the expense of what Flygt pumps are."

JCI assessed the Flygt pump for repair since they are a Flygt dealer. Rebuilding the pump from JCI would have cost $47,020.

The city received quotes from three vendors for a new pump. FTC was approved with a bid of $35,381. The bid also comes with a five-year warranty with the first three years covered 100% and the last two years at a prorated cost.

Cauley expected the pump to arrive in six to eight weeks.
