Hoisington Football averages 213 pounds across the offensive line. Take out Karson Kinman, the 6-3 260-pound center, and that average drops to 200 pounds. That’s significantly less weight than most of the opponents they’ll line up against, including last week's matchup with the massive Hesston Swathers, who defeated Hoisington by just seven points.
The Cardinals program is used to having smaller players though, making teams that are greater than the size of the jersey. Head coach Zach Baird says that’s the mentality of his team, and he’s proud of the kids for establishing that mindset.
"Give our kids credit. They will fight, and just continue to work, so I'm super proud of that. I think over 13 years there's just been a precedent set that, we're going to play extremely hard, we're going to be as physical as we can be. We're not always perfect and we're not always the most talented team. But we're going to play the game the right way, and if you beat us, we'll tip our cap to you. But you're going to have to earn it.
"I can't question our group's desire or heart. It doesn't matter who gets off the bus. We've got a standard to uphold. We're going to cut it loose, and play our rear ends off, and at the end of the night, we'll see what happens."
