
Larned, Kansas – Kyle D. Stevens, age 30 of Larned, appeared in custody Tuesday afternoon in the Pawnee County District Court before Magistrate Judge Julie Cowell for Felony First Appearances on a six count Criminal Complaint.
Stevens is charged with (1) possession of 115.3 grams of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school; (2) possession of drug paraphernalia suitable to cultivate marijuana; (3) possession of drug paraphernalia suitable to distribute a controlled substance; (4) possession of a firearm by a felon; (5)unlawful use of a telecommunication device; and (6) misdemeanor drug paraphernalia suitable to ingest a controlled substance.
The charges stem from an ongoing investigation by the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Department and Larned Police Department resulting in the execution of a search warrant at Stevens' Larned residence on Oct. 8, 2023.
At the first appearance, Judge Cowell advised the defendant of his charges, the possible penalties if convicted, and his constitutional rights, including their right to counsel. If convicted, under the Kansas Sentencing Guidelines for Drug Offenses the defendant faces between 92 months and 144 months in the custody of the Department of Corrections depending on his criminal history.
A Preliminary Hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 23, 2023. Stevens was arrested without incident at the time of the search warrant and is being held in the custody of the Pawnee County Sheriff in lieu of $90,000 cash or surety bond.
